The Lemon that started it all…
First, I don’t NEED to justify the “lemon” situation in my Follow Me Monday video (maybe the container of lemon wedges was actually for the WHOLE table? Ya think? …AND maybe I only needed 2 Lemon wedges to make the kind of lemonade I like… and maybe I gave the server a HUGE tip because she put up with us… and maybe I was a server for a few years, so I UNDERSTAND… ).
Anyway, the point of this post is to express how I feel. I am not one of those people that can bottle stuff up inside. That’s just not me. I put myself out there on these videos and it’s scary. I also work very hard every week getting these videos made for all of you. I felt the response this week (I actually had to delete some of the comments) was not too positive. I want to continue making videos, but if I feel like this every Monday, it’s definitely not going to work.
Just please try to remember that I have feelings…
Oh and when I talked to my hubby about the whole lemon ordeal he said, “What lemons? When did we have lemons?” Him saying that made me feel so much better… made me realize once again, that this whole lemon crisis is NOT a big deal!
…And one more thing—it is just a stinkin’ lemon!

Colin, I am so sorry that you got some slack about the lemons or anything else for that matter. My family always asks for lemons and not just a few probably enough lemons to equal 2 or 3 whole lemons. Please don’t let some jerks negative comments get you down. I am not sure what was said, but I want you to know that I LOVE your vidoes. I think you are so dang cute. I look forward to following you every Monday. In fact, I wish you did “Follow me Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. LOL Seriously, I do get some good ideas from your videos and at the same time get a few laughs bc you are so dang funny. I like that you don’t take yourself too serious. You have fun and I love to watch someone be happy and have fun!! I feel like I know you from reading your blog daily and watching your videos. That has to mean that you are doing a great job. Thank you for all your hard work and screw the jerks that have something negative to say. I am sure they are just jealous that they aren’t as cute as you are and that if they had the nerve to make a video it would show what idiots they are!!
Thank you for all you do for us! I often put lemon in my water when out to eat, what’s the big deal? A lot of restaurants give you a lemon on your glass of water anyway, I don’t think they care that much. Don’t let negative people get you down!
It’s really a shame when people are coming to this website to use what they want, but then feel they can justify making rude comments about the wonderful lady that is enabling them to get all these great deals…as a side note, I didn’t get to watch the video yet, but I saw the picture with the lemons in your glass, Collin, and laughed to myself, ” looks like somebody else uses lemons, too..” only I put Splenda in with mine, free lemonade..keep up the GREAT work, PLEASE!

I am always ordering soda and it is costly, but I love lemons in my water and I had never thought of putting the sweetener in before. Thanks for the tip. I loved the video. Do the videos when you can and I will enjoy them when you get to them.

Seriously????? I don’t understand about this whole lemon thing! What in the world, it was a freaking lemon! If Olive Garden was so concerned about giving a silly little lemon they wouldn’t offer FREE Salad with refills and FREE breadsticks with refills to EVERYONE!! Sorry but Breadsticks and Salad costs more than a silly little lemon!!! Thanks Collin, for all that you do. I LOVE your site and check it constantly. The best part of all this is that I get to enjoy spending all my days with my 2 yr boy and 1 yr girl.

Collin, Keep in mind that this is YOUR blog! Not anyone elses. You work very hard at updating all the greatest deals on your blog and the fact that you have over 700 comments on one post says something about your success (noting that this is not a post for a contest!). The people that only have negative ridiculous criticism about your ‘follow me mondays’ is direct result of their outrageous jealousy.
I know in a sea of compliments, the one drop of bad water contaminates the the entire supply. But remember, we all support your hard working self and all the awesome tips you post! Keep your head high, and ignore the others.

I just had a chance to watch the lemon episode of follow me Monday…It was a lot of great tips — But as the daughter in law to a small local restaurant…I can say that while it may be just a lemon to you…it’s about the price of a glass of pop during some season’s of the year…I have read your blog since March and followed along saving money like crazy .. and while I won’t be following that particular tip — I still wanna save money with ya…I didn’t read through the mean comments on follow me Monday — or the 777 other comments either. I am glad for your wonderful success- I have spread the word about your blog through mine and while in the stores…I don’t know how many times I have wrote down it’s hip 2 save and told someone to google it!! But with success– there are going to be drama. i hope everything calms down for you soon.

I think that in the world today it is great to be able to save in some areas. And Collin thank you for showing me muliple ways to do so. I am sorry people have to make comments that should be kept to themselves. Hopefully they realize if they don’t like it, don’t visit the website. I think LuLu and Carrie are either the same person or probably related. So sad for them they probably don’t get a lot of attention so they come on here to try and ruin it for us. Well I gave you some attention, my charity work is done for today.
I know there are hundreds, if not thousands, of people like me who are struggling in this horrible economy who depend on this site. Collin has helped my family ENORMOUSLY (definitely more than any “stimulus package” the government has ever given) and I am saddened by the people who feel the need to attack her, for what ever reason they may have. Please remember, people are struggling (here and around the world) and pettiness is just a waste of time and energy. You should know by now, Collin, after the numerous comments above mine, that you are truly LOVED and APPRECIATED for every single deal you try to bring us! I take advantage of the ones that appeal to me, and am ever grateful for the time you take to help us all. I prayed that God would help me and my family, after job losses and near foreclosure, and remembered, “God helps those that help themselves.” So, I started my search for jobs and ways to lessen our bills until the job came along. Then, I found the “It’s Hip to Save” blogspot and I have been lifted from the depths of depression. Let me tell you, I have saved thousands of dollars, provided for my family, and have had a huge weight lifted from my shoulders. What Collin does is help people help themselves. If you can’t see that, you are blind. Thank you, Collin, for I am truly grateful.

I have been ordering my water with lemons for years!! and I don’t care what anybody thinks about it. I worked in the food industry and beverages are the number one money maker for restaurants. When they charge you almost $2 for a glass of tea that only costs them pennies…I think those of us wanting the lemons are not costing them anything.
Collin, I appreciate you taking the time to find the great deals for those of us who don’t have the extra time (I work full time and live in the country and just have dial-up which takes FOREVER – so I don’t do much on the computer at home.) I stumbled across you little blerb about the lemon deal, so I had to go investigate.
After watching the video, I immediately recognized that the fuss isn’t about you or lemons, it’s a personal problem that each of those who commented negatively have.
It’s truely sad isn’t it?
My suggestion in the future is to not give any attention to those few who are eagerly waiting like a crouched down lion for it’s next prey to devour and whisper a little prayer instead….and be blessed by it.

I am so sorry about the negative comments a couple of people have left. I hope you won’t let it get you down. You have really helped me personally so much in very concrete ways. We are facing financial difficulties right now and need all the help we can get, we don’t have family to give us advice about frugality so I really thank the good Lord for your blog and all your wonderful tips and ideas. Try to look on the positive side-look at all the encouraging comments people have left to try to cheer you up!

I didn’t realize that there is such a controversy over lemons! If the restaurant offers you lemons for free, take them! If they want to start charging, re-evaluate making lemonade. I thought it was an awesome tip! I am new to your site and I totally love your videos. I think it’s very brave of you to do this every week, but you have some wonderful ideas and are such an inspiration to a fellow stay-at-home mommy looking to pinch our pennies, too.
