It’s nice when you can use your “powers” for good like this.
Tee hee. I love being able to be generous with my friends when they least expect it.
Beth says:
What a wonderful person you are! =)
Gisel says:
I think its awesome! I think its MUCH better to give things that you know they will use, then something “cute”. I love that she can use every single thing in that basket. It’s very thoughtful…you are a good friend.
Dee says:
I’m unemployed too and I can tell you that a basket like that would be a lovely surprise and SO very welcome – you are very thoughtful!!! Kudos.

That is awesome, I love gifts sets and would love getting a gift like that. Last year I made some baskets and one of my managers took offense and was mad at me because it has toothpaste, toothbrush, deodarent, antacids, candy, just a bunch of goodies that are nice to have at the office. Needless to say… he is getting nothing next year, LOL Some guys just don’t get it. the girls all loved it though
CRISTAL says:
OH WOW! that’s sad! Ungreatful,ungreatful!
Karen B. says:
Similar in my office, one of our workers is a little handicapped and has little money. He gave us all Irish Spring soap and a toothbrush. Hey everyone was insulted, but me, I saw it as a nice Christmas present/gesture and I can always use soap and a toothbrush in my house. Loved it and only cost him $2.00 a gift.
anon says:
Maybe he just wanted to make sure everyone he worked with smelled good and had fresh breath. Sounds like there is a lot of STINKERS in your group and they should use it not complain!
Shannon says:
Very cute! On easter all of the family visited my house, and so I planned an easter egg hunt for all of the kiddo’s. Instead of putting candy in the hidden eggs, I put a piece of paper with a number on it. The kids were given a limit of 20 eggs. When they were finished I had a huge box of prizes with numbers that matched the numbers in the eggs. I had tons of body wash for guys, gatoade, a ton of the free card games I had stockpiled, lip gloss, candy, everything we have gotten for free that the kids would enjoy. They were so excited to actually get prizes. It was so fun! It is definitely going to be a new tradition. Thank you for providing me with all of the free suplies : )
CRISTAL says:
what an AWSOME idea!
Shannon says:
I know seriously, it was so much fun! I got rid of lots of stuff that had been staring at me wondering if it would ever be used. The kids loved it! I totally recommend it!
Shelly T. says:
That is a great idea!
Karen B. says:
that is a wonderful idea. I can never come up with a good easter egg hunt prize, so I skipped it this year and the girls were sad. But thanks to you and I will always remember your idea at Easter, my girls will have lots of fun.
Suzanne says:
Awesome idea. I might have to do that next year!
Megan says:
That is very nice gift. A lot for less than $10. But I think the cost does not matter.
OiOi says:
What a sweet and thoughtful gift!
Happy Friday to everyone too.
I’m just being silly here:
You might be a couponer….
If you have ever seen a clipped coupon with a good expiration date on it lying on the ground in a parking lot and suddenly stopped to think if that store has a lost-and-found….You might be a couponer.
If you have ever had a fit of joy in the clearance aisle because you have a coupon and know of a rebate offer…..You might be a couponer.
If you have ever received a gift and after opening it you thought to yourself “Bless their heart, they paid full retail” and know where you could find coupon, sale or rebate on that gift along with knowing if it is eligible for eBates or SwagBucks ……Then you might be a couponer.
Lindy says:
Thanks for sharing
Karen B. says:
Funny, very funny. I think just like a typical Couponer.
Jeanie says:
That is too funny! Love it, love it!!!!!
Shelly T. says:
How fun! I am sure she loved it. I just did a gift bag for my nephew, he is recently divorced with three children and just moved into a new house. I put together a bag of lots of goodies that I had. Many of them I got for FREE! I took it to him the other day when he was unpacking. Now I wish I had taken a photo of it to share.
Sarah says:
That’s fantastic! I love how couponing has allowed me to be generous during lean times and this post is a good reminder to do something like that again, it’s been a while. Last year I made a big box for the mother of my chemo buddy for Mother’s Day with a bunch of practical stuff in there too and she loved it. I second the person that said this frees up more of the recipient’s funds for things they want because you’ve taken care of some needs.
Cathy says:
I did the same thing for my sister-in-law who was unemployed & has 4 kids to support. She was so appreciative. Especially since I was able to throw “fun” things in there like makeup which she never gets to treat herself to. And I had so much stuff stockpiled, I was happy to clean out my closet!
Becky says:
That is so cool!
Taci says:
That is so cute! When i have a good friend or family member going on a trip, I go to my stockpile and put together a “travel bag” full of travel games, books and magazines, snacks, and fun freebies I’ve found throughout the year. It is so fun to see how excited they get over a crossword puzzle and chapstick. My parents are going on an Alaskan cruise in june and I just got a bunch of hasbro card games to send with them. it’s a gaurantee they’ll being me back something cool!
Sadie says:
My kids teachers and bus drivers are all getting a nice Olay gift basket this year. Thank in part to awesome P&G rebates.
Ileana says:
That’s great!!!
Heather G says:
That’s so awesome,Collin!
Kerry says:
It is really amazing what can be done with just a short time couponing. I am relatively new to all of this.. since about the 2nd week of March and I really can not believe how much I have been able to get in a shortime. I am visiting my niece tomorrow at her first apartment and I have such a wonderful gift basket filled with things she will need…toothpaste, toothbrushes, dental floss, shower gel, shampoo, mousse, bandaids, etc. I am so happy to be able to share with her and it is really nice to know how helpful this will be for her. the best part is that the majority of the items were FREE!!
Linda says:
I’m doing very much the same thing with a bag of goodies for my best friend. Her husband is starting up his own business, she may be laid off at the end of the school year, and they have a baby due in July. I got a bunch of baby supplies on sale, many with coupons, and then am giving her the miracle working Scrubbing Bubbles shower cleaner continuous sprayer. (I already have one, and a refill, and got it for free with coupons and the SC Johnson rebate form.) Yay for coupons and freebies!
Magnolia says:
I LOVE giving away my coupon freebies/nearly-freebies! I was one of the free-milk-for-a-year winners, so I have been giving coupons to other moms I see buying milk at the grocery store… I think it can really brighten up someone’s day to have a stranger do something nice for them!
And I like to put together little toiletry kits (with all the travel size freebies we score) for friends who are going out-of-town…
Also, I have been quietly stockpiling household essentials for my brother and his soon-to-be-wife for when they get their first place together!
Suzanne says:
Wow, you are so nice to share your milk coupons! You are definitely brightening their day b/c it would certainly brighten mine!
Andy Lee says:
That is too sweet.
Cyndi says:
Great basket. I used alot of free items I have been getting with coupons to make an easter basket. I held a drawing for the basket and all the proceeds went to the march of dimes. I currently have another basket drawing going, the march of dimes diva basket, with alot of free and/ or cheap make up.nail polish and body wash I have been getting later. Along with a coach scarf I snagged on sale for next to nothing. I like giving things away, and couponing has aloud me to do that and not take away from my family. My cubbards are well stocked as well. This has been great fun and I could not have done it without you and your site.
Sabine says:
You are right; it is so much fun!
I was driving around today going to CVS, Wal-Mart, etc and really just spending next-to-nothing!
I reflected back on how before starting coupons (about the beginning of Feb) that I always thought nice toiletries were something other people could afford! Isn’t that good for a laugh?! My teen daughter is so impressed by how I can walk away from WAG and CVS and Target paying little or nothing for products. Now she wants to hang out with me!
We’ve been able to try many new products we NEVER would have bought. I love the new crackers that I got for .48 at Wal-Mart!
Everyone at my house has noticed and is appreciative; even the dog gets better food and treats! I also regularly give my in-laws treats. They were so enthralled by my couponing, they went out and bought their first computer EVER so they could look for deals!
The only possible complaint I could have is that now I have to watch my snacking habits because I have all this new food I didn’t have before! Wouldn’t want to have to buy bigger clothing, LOL! But if I did, I’m sure Collin could help me save money on it!
Denise says:
Sabine, I had to chuckle when you mentioned dog treats, and in-laws in the same line. I hope they are not getting the same treats!!! Just kidding.
deb says:
ur awesome
Anita says:
I LOVE THIS!! Awesome gift basket! I’m not up to that level yet. But I’ve been passing along deals to friends and family, giving as gifts, and donating to food pantry – just not on a large scale yet. I’ve also given several co-workers a gift bag of free items, along with a “super-couponing” pamphlet from Jill Cataldo (coupon queen in Chicago) so they can see what they can do. I hope to turn anyone and everyone into fellow couponers… I can’t believe the things I used to pay full price on, and even things I happily bought “on sale” pre-couponing days – I still paid too much for by my new couponing standards… hallelujah!
Amy says:
My friends and I give our “free” stuff to a neighbor who hosts a monthly “sale”. She prices everything $1.00 and gives the money to our local children’s hospital.
DB says:
I JUST did this yesterday too! There is a lady at our church who just came out of an abusive relationship with her husband and was in a womans shelter… well, she now is able to move into an apartment but had NOTHING! So I was able to give her stuff that she just did not have extra money to spend on. Like: Snuggle, laundry detergant, dish soap, lotions, soaps, toothpaste, floss, deoderant, bandaids, shampoo, conditioner, chap stick, light bulbs, etc… It was awesome to see her reaction! It helped her, but also made me feel like I really could help someone who is going through a hard time.
Michelle null Rulmont says:
wow! I think I’ll do the same for a Mother’s day basket!
dee says:
that is so nice of u Collin..
Tilla says:
my moms birthday was last weekend and I made her an amazing basket for 8 dollars plus tax. I already owned the beautiful wicker lined basket ( i think she may have given it to me oops haha), I put in a giant thing of free olay body wash, a 10 oz bottle of free pantene shampoo and a free 10 oz bottle of free pantene conditioner, free facial wipes from costco, free gillette razor blades, a new paperback (gently used by me), one of my watermelon fragranced soy candles that i make (www.shop4mybabies.etsy.com shameless plug) and 2 green towels to match the candle (these are what i spent the 8 dollars on). she loved it so much and it was a lovely basket to have a nice relaxing bath with a good book!
Tilla says:
ps. i’m out of deodorant can someone make me a basket hah! I know, how does a couponer run out of deodorant?? well she only buys it for the men thinking they must be out, they must be out
Jaclyn says:
That turned out awesome! Great job! Since I have started couponing Easter Baskets & Stockings have been much easier to fill & doesn’t cost very much either! I love it! Before filling those would really start to add up!
Stephanie says:
Nice!

Maria says:
Love, Love, Love the idea.
Wendi says:
Cute basket. DARN!!!! I should have taken a picture of the cute basket I did for a friend. She just had weight loss/reduction surgery and I wanted to do something for her and since I can’t really make a meal and take over I did a “new woman” basket. And it looked spectacular, and it cost me very little. Went through my stock and overfilled a basket. Gotta love these deals – they save me running out to look for a gift, the recipient thinks I overspent, I shop from my stash, and I spend very little. Next time I will have to take a picture.
Samantha says:
I have finally gotten past worrying what people might think when they know that I get so many items for free and then they show up in a basket. LOL
I just gave my stepdad a basket today and he loved it. He is one of those people that is so easy to please that you don’t know what to buy them. I had gotten a great deal on a pair of athletic pants from Old Navy and that’s all I had put up for him. I put the pants in the basket as my “filler” material then added a nice razor, Schick Hydro shaving cream, Total Defense deodorant, Irish Spring body wash and a pouf (!) and even some goodies like the Velveeta cups and Flipsides crackers that he loves. Oh, and he loves pens, etc. so I pulled out a couple of those Pilot frixion highlighters from Walgreens and put those in there, too.
Recently, we had friends who drove about 45 minutes to keep our baby so I could attend a daytime meeting at work and also some other friends who kept our dog for us while we were out of town. I fixed both sets of friends HUGE baskets ( of mostly free stuff) and they really liked it. Included snack stuff in addition to toiletries, etc.
