Has anyone done this? Can you really just go with all these coupons for free things and walk out paying nothing???

    • Laurie

I was in the mall on Sunday and they had a sign out that said FREE something or other. Of course I was excited and walked in. They just asked me various questions about my hair type so they could figure out what sample to give me. Then she gave me an extra sample of body lotion! I personally have printed out these coupons before and received them from the STORES, but the salon never has honored them. I’ve also received the FULL SIZE birthday item of my choice. It’s one of their more generic products (I chose hair conditioner), but it’s FREE! 😀

    • Kelly

I went in with tons of coupons and walked out with everything! They were even out of one of their samples, so they sent it to me in the mail!

  2. Laurie

I CAN’T WAIT TO DO THIS! I knew there was a reason I forgot to pick up my husband’s suit from the mall yesterday…I had to go back today so I could do this! I love Aveda!

  3. Amanda

I too feel weird walking in to do this….something must be wrong with me!

  4. Aubrie W.

I’ve asked at my favorite salon — Spa Envy in Champaign, Ill. — and been told that they don’t have the kind of coupon-scanning equipment that would let them partake in these kinds of specials. I wish Aveda’s Web site pointed out who participates and who doesn’t.

    • Laurie

It does. Just click on the link that says “find participating salons”. It should be any ‘Pure Privlige’ store.

    • Vickie

I called mine on the last promo…and mine store DID…!!! 🙂 So, just give em a call…HTH

Would love to do this, but somehow it makes me feel bad about it. Is it unusual to walk in, get a bunch of free things & then walk out without buying something? I always feel like I should get something when I do these things. What’s you others ladies thoughts on this? Its a GREAT freebie though & I am excited one is in my area.

    • Laurie

They want you to try their products so you will buy them in the future. That’s the whole theory behind samples…right? So don’t feel bad, enjoy! Who knows…you might end up loving something and buying it later. The Rosemary Mint stuff smells GREAT and is pretty cheap (for Aveda) at about $8.50.

    • Sabrina

      I feel the same way….

      • Sabrina

but you can also look at it this way if you do not normally go there then you will only feel bad on the way out and then be excited about doing all this for free!

        • couponlover97

You should not feel bad about getting these freebies, they actually like when you get there free samples because they know that most people will get hooked on their product line, like me : )

  6. Sadie

Sometimes it takes an awesome freebie to get hooked. I love to take a few minutes to de-stress at the mall. They also have small samples for a donation to one of their charities. Donate a dollar or two and enjoy the pampering.

I have done this before and it works. It was at the Imagine salon in Willoughby, OH. I did get a haircut also (becuase I needed one anyway) but I received the rest of the above for free! I had the tea while i got my haircut, They gave me my head an d neck massage while i got my hair washed, i did the sensoray aroma thing after my haircut(nice but my clothes smelled like the aroma for the rest of the day), makeup after that. I walked out paying $25 for the cut and everything esle was free! I did give tips to the people too. And walked out with samples. IT was great!!

  8. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I was able to print the coupon for Color Conserve AND a coupon for a free sample of Caribbean Therapy body cream. Yay!

  9. Kim

I’ve been collecting all these Aveda coupons all year and I plan to cash them all in at the local Aveda salon next time I get my hair done. I feel weird going into a salon to get a bunch of free things, but if we had a retail store I don’t think I’d feel the same way.

  10. Dana

We only have the store at our mall, not the salon so I wonder if the treatments coupon will be good? Don’t really care for the spa experience, anyway, but I hope I can get the free products- will have to talk hubby into going to the mall soon! 😉 Thanks Collin!

    • K10

it will; everything offered coupon wise is always redeemable at an aveda store location, whereas the “aveda salons” and spas just use aveda products, so that is why some people strike out at their neighborhood hairdresser.

      • mamabear

oh gotcha!! that makes sense now! they just told me ‘we dont take coupons” and that made me mad cause they were looking down their noses at me but if they had said that it would have made more sense!!!!

  11. K10

I am an avid Aveda fan and am even a pure privlige member (you pay a one time $10 fee and get points for every purchase to trade in for things like purses, spa time or even a fancy vacation) – but you shouldn’t feel weird about this one because so much of what is offered in this promo is already offered to everyone reguardless what day it is, if you have the coupon or not, even if you just walk in to browse.

If you’re honest with them, letting them know that you havent really shopped their stuff before but you’re interested in the products/store, they will generally be super nice and will talk you through the store, as opposed to if you walk in with a “holy-er than thou” i’m-just-here-for-free-stuff-thank-you-very-much attitude.

But seriously, don’t feel too weird because they know that this is how they can get people into the store and they know that what is being offered sounds better on paper than what it is. Like the tea – we read “cup” and think of a starbucks tall but really it’s about 2 ounces in a dixie cup and they do that for any and everyone who walks into the store, including children and bored boyfriends who are just tagging along.

The “sensory journey” is an employee holding up about 14 – 18 different bottles of scents and you telling that person if you like it or not; they’ll make a “yes” group and a “no” group, and they’ll keep taking you through all the yeses until you’ve found your fav.

The shoulder/neck massage, hand ritual (ie, massage) and free sample of hand relief are pretty sweet, but the hand thing may not include both hands and the person rubbing you isn’t fully licensed so it could pinch or not be exactally what you’re thinking either.

Aveda has a really great line of products and is a really great company – they are ethically and morally sound, wanting to give the cocoa harvesters a decent wage and they are also eco concious. I highly suggest both of their loyality programs, both the free one and the $10 membership if you plan on purchasing a lot of their items over your lifetime.

  12. mamabear

ok so just to make sure i got this right: in order to get the spa treatment coupon honored it must be a salon/spa (obviously)- and to use the coupons for the lotions and samples you can go to the stores… so if i wanted to use them both at the same place it must be a pure privilge location? the one nearest to me says its a HC, PP, SS, EM, SR, store.

oh good grief, i think ill just call them and get myself set straight …lol (rolling eyes)

  13. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I am SO excited about these offers! I have a store less than a mile from me but have never been there – i will definitely be stopping by! 🙂

  14. Tiffany

I got a freebie from them last year. I actually allready was going to an Aveda salon in another town, but Elle Salon in Michigan City, IN participated in the giveaways and they are closer to me, duh! I go there now instead. I love how their products smell and make my hair feel and that they are all natural. Don’t feel bad about taking the freebies, it’s how they market thier products and services.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Will Elle salon redeem the stimulus coupon?

  15. Dollfayce

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Aveda products! My absolute favorite spa uses the Aveda line and frequently do giveaways…I’ve won soooo many! Thanks for the heads up on this one!

  16. Ginger

I love Aveda products also but I do find that my local Aveda store NEVER has the samples when I bring these printouts in. They always say they “ran out” or to come back next week and they may have more in. So, they may only get a few in to “advertise” and to just get you in the store.

  17. Laurie

Yeah, I went today and my Aveda store (Mission Viejo Mall, CA) was out of the Color Conserve 3 pack. 🙁 However, she happily handed me a small sample of the protein hair conditioner instead and gave me my ‘lavish’ sized hand cream. I got the tea and the hand massage, but she was the only one working and it became busy, so I didn’t get the neck massage. She said what K10 said above: all these things they offer all the time. I love Aveda, and am super happy to get free things!

  18. Ellie

How much do you guys tip for something like this? I usually tip 20% on salon services, but since there is no value listed here, I don’t know what’s a reasonable amount…

  19. Jaymi Emmons

This sounds awesome! I was looking for a salon to get my mom a gift certificate for Mother’s Day, so while I’m there I might be able to get some stuff too! Great!

  20. Chrissy White

I went by today with my coupon, but the girl working there just gave me a Carribean lotion sample and some sample for my hair, looked at me like “that’s it” and said “Happy Earth Day!”. I was happy to receive the free samples, but a little bummed that she did not offer me the full promo, as was stated on the coupon.

  21. Dana

My store was out of most of them, too. I got the tea (my husband said it tasted like licking the car’s tires- LOL- not a tea man, I guess) and 2 free caribbean hand cremes but they were out of everything else. Oh well, 2 freebies is a lot better than none!
