"Follow You Monday" Meijer Shopping!
This Hip2Save.com Deal was hand-posted on Monday, May 3rd, 2010 at 4:45 pm.
Alright, so as most of you know, I was in Lafayette, Indiana over the weekend and had a blast! My “Follow You Monday” giveaway winner was an awesome reader of mine named Michelle! She was a fantastic sport throughout the filming process which took quite a while! Plus, she put up with me and my crazy family… and that says a lot!
Thanks so much, Michelle!
Today’s “Follow You Monday” video is all about Meijer shopping. I hope you enjoy it as much as we enjoyed filming it. Also, I want to shout out a huge thanks to Saving Addiction for helping me learn the ins and outs of Meijer shopping. If you’re looking for Meijer deals, then I would highly recommend checking out the Meijer section of their site found here.
Enjoy!
**If you can’t see the video, then go here to watch it.

margaret in seattle says:
ok, ladies…i know it’s great to save so much money by using coupons, but please bring some reusable bags next time. for a long shopping list like hers, she probably doesn’t have enough bags to take them all home, but at least few tote bags will help our planet a little. don’t you think?
nicole says:
I love Meijer and I get do do some of these deals this week because the Meijer’s in Indianapolis don’t change their ad until Thursday. WAHOO!
Anonymous says:
My sister is in Indy and a new couponer. She is needing someone guide her along with the stores close to her. Do you have any Indy websites you visit to help her?
Rachel says:
Great job ladies! I’m surprised you didn’t have reusable bags though! I have tons of them!
Beth says:
Collin was visiting from out of town… I’m sure packing reusable bags was the last thing on her mind. I can only imagine how hard filming and getting everything arranged can be.
Thanks Collin for doing these videos and please… stop griping at Collin for things she’s not doing or things you want her to do. Instead focus on the positive people!
Aleshia says:
can we say over prrtective. I don’t think she was trying to grip, maybe she was just making a suggestion. Its not biggy. Get over it.
Aleshia says:
*protective*
Aleshia says:
GRIPE
Anon. says:
Reusable bags are a little overrated at grocery stores, because you can recycle the plastic bags anyway in the front of Meijer. I just keep them until I go next week, and them put them in to recycle. The cashier likes me better, and I am still helping the environment! Stay happy everyone!
jessica says:
wow..great trip…I don’t have a Meijer near me…but, now…..i know how to pronounce Meijer…everytime i read deals about this store I thought it was pronounced (may-jer)…lol
Anonymous says:
Ditto Jessica!!! Me too w/ how to pronounce it! Lol.
Lauren says:
Haha! Me too when we moved here, I saw the signs and figured it was pronounced that way until people pronounced it for me
megan says:
Great deals!!!
Lauren says:
That was awesome! Are you wondering when Meijer’s gonna make it’s way down here to the Carolinas?
Kristin says:
I wish my Meijer would double coupons! Greenwood, IN Meijer is stingy!
Jill says:
I moved to Kansas City from Michigan, one thing I miss the most is MEIJER! My husband use to work there and would get the ad early. You’d think a city this big would have one
Tilla says:
does anyone know where I can get some awesome cat food coupons? i have 1.00 off friskees but that isn’t enough of a savings. I need wet canned cat food. my fat boy eats 3 cans a day which can be about 1.50-1.90 per Day!!!!!
Annie says:
Reading through the comments I realize just how lucky we are in Columbus, Ohio to get double coupons up to $0.99 at most grocery stores. I sometimes get a bit annoyed with rules such as limits on how many like coupons will double per transaction ( 2 at Meijer) but overall I think I should be grateful when I see how many other Meijers don’t double in other areas. I don’t understand why a chain has different policies in different areas, but I guess it is to do with the competition. around
Karen B. says:
Hi there, was just visiting Columbus over the weekend, boy our car ride was long back to NYC. Visited the Walmart and Meijer’s on either MOrse or 161, not sure which street it was on. Amazing stores, wish we had a Meijer’s here too!
Heidi S says:
So true! I am in Columbus and was watching this and was very thankful!
Destiny says:
I live in Columbus TOO!!
I’m grateful too taht they double up to .99 cent!
Stephanie says:
Awesome trip! I love Meijer! Our meijer has several self check out lanes with no item limit and I find it easier to use all my coupons there…and I usually get more Catalina coupons from the machine at the slef checkouts.
Kerry says:
I love the self check out too! I usually end up needing help because their store coupons beep a lot, but the cashiers have always been very helpful and friendly. And I LOVE the catalina deals!! It’s like Walgreens without the grumpiness!
Kristy says:
Thanks for this video I love Meijer. Ft. Wayne Ind they do double up to .50 but only 2 like per transaction. but so far none have complained about how many trans i do ..
Cassidy says:
The Meijer on Lima road? We used to live in Ft Wayne before I started couponing and we’re moving back within the next year, this is nice to know!
Allison says:
Loved the video. I am an avid Meijer shopper!!!:)
p.s. I too was surprised that you didn’t have the blue reusables!
Ginger says:
On to more important things….haha….I want to know where you got that CUTE gingham TOP?!!!
Karen H. says:
That is my Meijer too! I love Meijer and am glad you were able to come and experience our town. Here’s to saving!
Holly says:
Oh Collin, how I wish coffee did the same thing for me as it does for you!! After a few I’m still exhausted!! Love your spunkiness!
Annmarie says:
Awesome! My jaw is on the floor after seeing this video. I shop at Meijer and have never done this well. This has inspired me to search for more deals at Meijer. Thanks for posting.
Amber W says:
What a great surprise- I went to Purdue (in Lafayette) for my undergrad and lived in the Coop system and recognize Michelle! Meijer is one of my favorite places here in Carmel, IN and I loved your follow me Monday video!
Angie says:
Good Job Girls! That was great! I love Meijer! It takes me 3 hours every time I go there! Ha ha! The door greeter says, “Hello, again!” LOL!! My favorite cashier in Kokomo, Ind is Stephanie! She is so sweet and she actually gets excited when I save so much money. Last trip the ladies behind me applauded… now, how fun is that??
To Ma: You are so funny! They should pay us those pennies!
Anonymous says:
Yes, I get so excited too when the cashier and other customers get to see my savings. I get kudos all the time. I love it!!!
Tara says:
I’m from Kokomo too! I love our Meijer. All the girls at the self checkout are so helpful. I keep reading that other meijer stores only allow 2 “like” coupons…..fortunately ours does not limit them that I have noticed!
Karyl says:
I was super excited when Ma showed up on the film. It was kind of like a little surprise.
Great savings ladies!! Good job! Thanks!
michelle says:
I live in MI and there are quite a few Meijer’s around. The area where I live does not do double coupons either but they have some great deals. I think it has something to do with the population and the competition in the area. I don’t want our area to grow too much, but would love better deals on groceries. We have to work harder in rural areas..I have yet to watch this video. They do have a great clearence food area and once I was able to get Eggland’s cage free eggs for $1.10 a dozen (that is a great price) . My town just got a new one and the grand opening was Sunday. They had 21 lanes open and the people snaked back into the clothing. I’m not a regular shopper there so maybe that means I should be. I did get Ban deodorant for .38 after 50% and $1 coupon. I also saw a fellow couponer in the store with “piles” of coupons and she gave me some for daisy sour cream. On sale for .99 with .50 coupon off. She gave me four that was so nice of her.
Jill says:
That was fun to watch! You really need to come to Utah, Collin, to shop at Smiths and experience ecoupons! They’re so much fun!
Anonymous says:
WOW!!! Great deals!!! I was excited yesterday because I got my family’s bill from $215 to $112… now I realize that there is MUCH more to be learned.
Annie says:
I think that’s a great saving….after all, to feed your family you need to buy meat, produce and milk and usually those items don’t have coupons.
Lowbudget says:
Awesome shopping ladies! I enjoy the videos as well. Keep up the good work and teachings. There is so much more to learn about couponing at its best!
Rachel says:
Your video’s text stated that if a mfr coupon is greater than the price of an item, the register automatically adjusts the cost of the coupon down.. so how did you get overage with the dog food?
Gina says:
I wish we had those stores here on the West Coast!!!!!!
Those prices are supppper good.
My store doubles but, those the prices are double what they are there………………………
Tiny says:
That was awesome! Check this out in “Virginia” Farm Fresh doubles coupons up 2 $.99 everyday. On Wednesday they double coupons up 2 $1.00. They take manufactures coupons and internet coupons. They also give you $.05 cents off for every reusable bag you use. That is where I go grocery shopping and love it. You and Ma should come to “Virginia I think you would have a great time:)
Suzanne says:
Yes, you should definitely come to Virginia next time!!! You wouldn’t even have to fly – we are driving distance away. But hey, where do you live in VA? We have 1 Farm Fresh (not near me) and they do not double like that!!!
Kris says:
Wow! That was amazing. I am so jealous that I do not have a Meijer here in MD.
Thanks for the great video Collin
Kris
Denise S. says:
I am very jealous also!!!!! None of our stores double! We don’t even have any Meijer’s, CVS, Publix, Rite Aid, or Kroger’s within a 2 1/2 hour drive. And our WalMart, Kmart, Target, and Walgreens are very anti-coupon.
Ann L. says:
I love meijer!!! I was so looking froward to your trip there, awesome shopping ladies!!!
daena says:
Our Meijer will only double 2 of the same q’s. So sometimes I have lots of transactions, but its all good. They also are getting weird about taking internet q’s. I think that privlage will be taken away soon. Most of the stores around us won’t take them anymore.
Kerry says:
My very nice cashier at Meijer yesterday was telling me that they have regular meetings about “fake” coupons for them to look out for. It’s such a shame that people out there will stoop to fraud! It just makes all of us honest couponers look bad and increases the “bad shopping experiences” that a lot of talk about on here when trying to get a good deal.
Rita says:
my Meijers will not take two coupons on a buy one get one free …so you cant give a buy one get one free and then a money off coupon. The registers ring the second one as free and show that you only “bought” one.
Beth says:
Well, I think the way it works is that you use a B1G1 coupon, and then you can use 1 additional coupon for the 1 item that you bought. You can’t use a B1G1 with 2 addition coupons for the 2 items b/c you can’t use a coupon for the free item. At least, that’s how it always works for me. Anyone else?
Renee says:
No, the other lady is correct. I was just at Meijers today and was trying to use a bogo coupon peelie for wheatables and a 1.50 off coupon. I had 1 box of wheatables and the box of nut something wheatables I was getting for free. When the machine beeped and the cashier had to come over she said only ONE coupon would be accepted for BOGOs. She then stated you cannot use a coupon at Meijers for an item you are getting for free?
Kathryn says:
Also, I have found out that when something is bogo as a meijer promotion, you can only use one coupon (for the item you pay for), but not one for the free one. Correct me if I’m wrong.
3baumans says:
Thanks for the video…..I love Meijer too and was waiting for this trip! Good deals girls.
Kim says:
WOW, I love to see these shopping trips. Where do you find all your coupons? You are very inspiring. Love it.
Julianne Brimner says:
I recently moved to an area that has Meijer’s and they double coupon…but you failed to mention one of the best deals at Meijer’s or at least mine…it is the horse ride for only a penny. My daughter always loves riding the pony. I’ve even considered leaving her teenage brother and her with a stack of pennies while I shopped…just kidding.
Cyndi says:
lol.. That’s so funny!! enough though I know u was joking . Just had to comment on how you made me laugh. Thanks I needed that one.
Megan says:
Great video!
I have a grocery store (Homeland) here in OK that doubles coupons up to & including $1 !!! So a $1 is worth $2!
I get overage all the time because instead of doubling up to the sale price of the product, say $1.09… It doubles to the original price of $1.69. So if that was the case, that’d be .50 overage! YAY!
There’s NO limits to the amount of Q’s you can double (Except 1 like Q per transaction!) & also no certain $$ amount that you have to pay, like some stores I hear you can only double 5 Q’s if your total is $25+
Suzanne says:
Oh Collin I love you so but hate to see you with the disposable coffee cups! Can I buy you a reusable cup and send it to you?!?!? Don’t hate on me people, I know she was out of town and all! I’m just saying for when she’s at home.
jessica says:
First of all, great work girls!! Second of all, I am now feeling very blessed here in NC after reading all of these comments about doubling coupons. Harris Teeter doubles 20 coupons up to .99 cents per day (no overage). Then they have weeks where they will triple coupons up to .99 cents (last day of one of those specials going on right now) or they have weeks where they super double any coupon up to 1.98 (so $1.50 coupons become $3).
Lowes Foods also doubles coupons up to .99 cents everyday, and has 3-day triples events (usualy to compete with Harris Teeters)
But I’m a little greedy and still want a Publix haha!
Anna says:
Love this trip, but all those plastic bags make me want to hurl.
Holly says:
I know a lot of you were quick to defend Collin, which is fine, but really though I have never seen her use a reusable bag in any of her videos. Have you? So it has nothing to do with her traveling.
Couponing4myTacoma says:
My meijer won’t let you use a coupon on the free items… even if it’s a store promo for a free item.
Jen R. says:
Love to see you in my hometown!!! Thanks for you site and your videos!!
Stephanie says:
On the first video about the trip to Indiana Collin talked about printing the restaurant.com gift certificate, did she take a printer with her?
Emma says:
Hehe I was wondering the same thing!!!!
Jaclyn says:
I wish we had a Meijer in sunny California or even a Publix! NO FAIR! Great job on the savings!!!
Sandra says:
Does anyone know of a Meijer’s in northern IL or souther WI that regularly doubles coupons? Or any stores, for that matter that offer double coupons all the time? Thanks for any info.
Maria says:
Amen! And how about some doubles in Nor Cal? That would be nice!
Meredith says:
Very cool!!
Sarah @ Give Me Neither says:
Loved the video!
Even if you don’t have a Meijer that doubles, most weeks there are still a ton of deals. I save so much money there.
You’ll find the weekly match ups and current catalina deals.

Sarah says:
I went to college in OH and I used to work at a Meijer. I hated couponers, lol. Ppl used to try to use coupons for stuff they didn’t buy. That was before ‘smart’ registers. OR they’d pay for their groceries then hand over the coupons claiming to have forgotten and it was our policy to scan the coupons and give them cash.
Now I always make sure that my coupons are right and am friendly to the cashiers. It really helps.
Great video, Collin and Winner!

Gina says:
My speakers are broke what was the total at the end?!
Jen says:
Ladies, how did you get Meijer to accept a second coupon on those buy 1 get 1 deals? Our meijer says one coupon per item and if it is free they do not allow you to use a second coupon. Does anyone else have this problem? I live in IN also.
Jen says:
Ps. What is a Catalina deal?
