The Werther’s aren’t in my ad and I can’t seem to find them anywhere. Please help…this girl needs her chocolate!!!

My dollar general doesn’t accept printed coupons ;o(

  3. Pissed Off Shopper

Just came from my local Dollar General for my first endeavor to score some great deals. The cashier asked me if my coupons were from the computer. I replied that yes the ones in question were internet coupons. Sorry we don’t accept them. I pointed to the big sign in the window that said the accept them. Long story short “the manager” came to tell me no we don’t take those coupons. I told that I would be calling headquarters and they should take down their sign. “They only accept Family Dollar internet coupons”. Sorry I didn’t leave behind the rest of my stuff as they kept one of my regular coupons that were not deducted from my total. My loss – too pissed to go back in and cause another scene. No I won’t be giving them any more of my business. (sure they will probably go under now LOL) What is wrong with these people!!!

  4. LeAnna

urgh-one of my biggest pet peeves….managers who don’t even know their own policy’s!!! They switched the policy-I believe march 10th. These people should KNOW that! For both of you-I would contact co-orperate and make a huge stink. I know what you mean about the embarrassment. I will fight for my rights up to a point-then enough it enough! I will not go back to Walmart just for that reason-and I when I complained-they did not even have the courtesy to give me a call back! Managers are NOT the decision makers! I would urge you to complain and give them the opportunity to make it right(by educating those people-and maybe giving you an incentive to come back in!) This happened to me recently at Shoppers-and when I got a call back-they offered me a $25 gift cert if I would try them again….so the next time I see a good deal there, I will go in and get me gift card and shop w/ my internet coupons!!!.

I just had the same issue with my IP’s. When the cashier asked the manager if they accept IP’s, his reply was “we don’t usually”. What!?!? So I guess “usually” means on a good day maybe they’ll take them – WHATEVER! I’ll be contacting corp. They tried saying they only accept their own store IP’s. Again, whatever. They did allow me to use them “this time” LOL!

    DG Coupon Policy: https://www.dollargeneral.com/OurStores/Pages/CouponPolicy.aspx

Dollar General is pleased to accept Manufacturer’s Coupons and Dollar General Store Coupons at any of our more than 8,700 stores. These coupons come from a variety of sources, including, but not limited to, newspapers, magazines, print-at-home (internet), direct mail, product packaging, and in-store coupon boxes.

Our coupon requirements are as follows:

Dollar General will accept coupons, including Internet Coupons, provided they meet these requirements:

    1. Coupons must be original (no photocopies)

    2. Coupons must have a scan-able barcode

    3. Coupons must have an expiration date

    4. Coupons may be used only on products sold at Dollar General, and must match exactly to the item as it is packaged and sold at Dollar General.

    5. Coupons must clearly say “Manufacturers Coupon” or “Dollar General Store Coupon”

Dollar General will NOT accept the following:

    1. Manufacturer’s coupons that do not scan, or Dollar General Store Coupons with an invalid promotional code

    2. Expired Coupons

    3. Coupons for products not sold at Dollar General

    4. FREE Item coupon if printed from the Internet, unless a purchase is required (example: a “buy one, get one free” is acceptable).

    5. Coupons from other retailers or coupons that may be used only at other retailers

In addition, unless the coupons state otherwise, you may use multiple coupons in one transaction. You may also use a Dollar General coupon along with a Manufacturer’s coupon for the same item, as long as neither coupon states otherwise.

I sent my scorching email to the corporate office and then I called the store manager and read here the above from their web site. She said “All I know is we can’t accept them”. So I’m going to contact corporate on Monday and ask them the educate their employees. I called another location just to confirm and she said as long as the coupons scan they have no problem. I will try there tomorrow. Thanks for listening to my gripes! I love this site I have learned so much in the last few month on here!

  7. Rachel

I really appreciate you posting these match up for Dollar General and Family Dollar. Thanks for all you hard work!

  8. Leah Rockwell

I just had a terrible experience at TWO DG’s. I am steaming right now! I pointed to the sign that they now accept internet coupons, but they wouldn’t take them. Then the managers at both stores said “we can’t accept coupons that would get you free stuff.” Apparently the piece of paper they had said they can’t accept “FREE item” coupons or coupons for the full face value of the item. Both managers were rude to me and said I was “causing a rucus.” I plan on calling corporate and complaining big time!! I was like “you realize you are losing money by not taking these coupons, bc you get reimbursed the face value.” And the guy said, “well, I could lose my job so I’m not accepting them. You can call corporate on me.” Geez.

  9. Angel

I went to DG Today to get the Suave deodorant 2 at $1.50 each with a $3 off 2 coupon. I made sure I read the coupon and double checked that I had the 2.6oz size like it stated on the coupon. They rang them up and scanned the coupon then said the register say it doesn’t match the product. I told them read the coupon. He glances at the coupon and says you have to buy the powder kind I said no the picture is just an example it clearly states when you buy any 2 nust be 2.6oz. so the manager comes over and tells me heres the deal there is no way I’m letting you walk out of my store paying only the tax for these. I swear I am 6 months pregnant and I do not control My emotions well I almost knocked him out. I took a breath and grabbed My coupons and said ok Rich lets see what corporate says He said yeah make sure you remember My name You can call Me DiXX (word edited) I never shop there it’s out of the way for me and I don’t think I will be going back ever.

    • Amy

I can’t believe how difficult people makes things sometimes. I have been couponing for almost a year now and I can tell you that there have been times when I get so upset at these managers and cashiers that I don’t step foot into a store for weeks. I just need a break. There are times I get so discouraged that I don’t even want to do this anymore. I love the deals but sometimes it’s like pulling teeth to get them.

    • Hippy

Angel, congrats on the upcoming baby. These managers at th Dollar stores are all morons and not woth getting upset over. I went to DG last week with my coupons for the first time. I was ok with the “no coupon for a buy one get one”. I did get my dog chewies for free cuz they were on sale for $ 2.00 and I had a $2.00 coupon. They told me BTW ,that they do not have rain checks. What……….why would I go to their store if they did not have the product. Its not my fault they run out of stuff!!! So, I Have to be having a good day to go back to DG!!!

    • AnnMarie S

I had the same problem yesterday at GD, I had 2 $3/2 coupons to get 4 and 1 scanned and the second coupon said that I did not have the products, so I told them to take off the 2 that didn’t go through with coupon. Come to find out after I had left, when they removed the 2 from my bill the coupon also went away. I called them back about it and the manager was no help, and told me that did not happen (even when the cashier and I noticed the amount after the 2 were removed did not change) and told me if i wanted to clear it up I would have to come back Monday to talk to the GM. I don’t think I will go to GD again.

    • Dawn

Something similar happened to me at Family Dollar, I was trying to get 4 free Suave and the manager yelled at me that everyone was trying to do what I am doing (like it is a crime) and she said that I could only use one coupon. I was with my husband and I said that he would buy the other two with the coupon. She said that it is one coupon per person per day. What. Ever. IDK why they care, nothing is coming out of their pocket.

    • Angie

When I went to DG to get the deodrants it was early in the morning and I was the only one in the store. My coupon would not scan or match up with the products I had even though they were the rigth ones. The cashier ended up entering a manual coupon for each deodrant seperately and then it worked.

      • Chelle

Looks like I’m not alone in being upset with the whole deodorant coupon fiasco. I was successful in getting the same deal on a twin pack @Walmart previously so I was going to try it @DG. The clerk (whom I have a worse name for I won’t use here.) said it won’t let me put it in. She tried it again and said it won’t let me scan it but this time with a bit of an attitude. I said that I didn’t want it and to void the item. She became increasingly upset because she had to call her supervisor over and proceeded to tell her what happened. The breaking point for me was when I was trying to explain to the supervisor (who didn’t offer to help.) about a manual coupon the clerk tried to talk over me. I didn’t stop talking but politely put up my hand and proceeded with my point. She shut up but with an eye roll. I went to another DG and the coupon wouldn’t match the item there either but this clerk was super nice. I told him not to worry about it and he voided the transaction for me. I got the $1 Welch’s and was on my way. See?! The clerk there was polite and I wasn’t offended at all. As for the other DG clerk she needs an attitude adjustment.

Im glad to see that i wasn’t the only one that had problems with the suave coupons. I too went to purchase the 2 deodorants and was told by the manager that she could not take them because that would make it free and if she gave them to me for free she would get fired! i was very enraged and told her that this was the first time I’ve shopped at this store and i was completely un satisfied with there service and would not come back until they corrected the mistake. Her response was, “well that sucks, but im still not taking them” i was to aggravated to pay attention to her name, But i still plan on contacting corporate to notify them of there faulty management.

    • Sharon B

I posted this under a different topic, but I had a pretty good experience at my DG store today (Sunday). The main problem was that my cashier must have just gotten hired that morning. LOL! I asked her to do a price check on the deoderants and they all said $1.50. But after she rang them up, the register wouldn’t take both coupons. So she took off 2 deoderants and I used just 1 coupon ($3/2). Then she rang up the other 2 and I used another $3/2 coupon. I did a third transaction for 2 Gillette body washes. They were $2 each and I had a $4/2 coupon. For my 4th transaction, I snagged a Sally Hansen facial(?) hair bleaching kit and also a Nivea after shave balm. Both were reduced 70%!! YAY! Paid for my last transaction and pennies on my other 3 transactions and skipped to my car….only to discover I had a Sally Hansen and Nivea coupon in my binder that I had left in the car. UGH!!!! LOL!! PS…the manager was so impressed with my purchases that she asked me about this website, which I gladly gave to her. I will be going back there 4 sure!

      • Sharon B

Oh….and one more thing….the manager did say that they used to NOT take internet coupons, but they do now. (HA! I’m replying to my own post!)

  11. Pissed Off Shopper

This is just not the store for me – I went to the second DG store last night. I had two coupons and purchased 4 deodorants. The first coupon went through but the second one would not so I told them just to take off 2 of the deodorants. Called the manager over she took it off put it back in and it appeared to work with the second coupon. However I came home with 4 deodorants but only one coupon was deducted and they kept the second coupon. I plan to call corporate today if they do not return the call from my email yesterday. Gee this is not rocket science what is the problem?

    • AnnMarie S

Same exact thing happen to me except I told them to take off the 2 and the coupon got removed too…did not figure it out until i left the store. I called the manager, she didn’t seem to care much.

    • Karin

Exact the same thing happened to me yesterday!! They took one of my $3/2 coupon but did not give me a discount. I was with my fussy baby, so I couldn’t figure out then. later, my baby was sick, so I sent my hubby to the store and had to explain the manager about the coupon. Even manager didn’t know that their store did sell Suave for $1.50!! Crazy!! They returned my coupon back, and hubby returned 2 deodorants I bought & $3 back(I asked him to re-buy them with coupon, but he didn’t understand what I said..) And this morning, I sent him again to re-buy those, but this time casher said WE DON’T TAKE COUPONS FOR FREE ITEMS! he told her that we did yesterday, and she said it was a mistake. Great customer service. I will contact the CS, maybe nothing change though.

Wow!! I am stressed just reading all these posts. Ladies, seriously, you are harming yourselves, your health, with the way you react in these stores. Stress, (and the anger you are verbalizing here is stress), is not good for the body. It is not worth what you put yourselves through over some of these coupons. You continue doing this for years to come and you will see the results. It’s not worth it. I also think if you could be a fly on the wall and see yourselves, you’d be ashamed. I have seen women reacting like this in stores over coupons, it’s not worth the grief. Use what you can and don’t stress over what you can’t. The stores are all going to stop taking IP coupons one of these days if people continue throwing fits in their stores. They DO have the upper hand, like it or not.

  13. Angie

I tried to use the Sauve coupon last week at Family Dollar & it wouldn’t scan. It said there was no matching item. They appologized & said they couldn’t accept pritned coupons that wouldn’t scan. I said, “that’s fine, I won’t buy them then, I have a tone of free deoderant at home already.” No reason to stress out about it, we get free deoderant all the time.

  14. Wendy

I try not to stress about it; I do understand that their policy says they won’t take an IP if it doesn’t scan so that’s fine . However, I do insist that they return the coupon they can’t take so that I can use it somewhere else. I have had someone try to keep one that wouldn’t scan because they believed that meant it was not legitimate and I did stand my ground and insist that they return my property to me before I left the store (without purchasing anything since I preferred to purchase my items somewhere that doesn’t treat me like a criminal LOL).

What really irritates me is when they won’t accept coupons that the corporate policy clearly states they will accept. Like every other store, I have learned that some locations and some cashiers are better than other. Fortunately, here in Western KY, there are DG stores everywhere so it makes it easier to find one that is coupon-friendly! I recently used the $2.00 Dentastix coupons and the $3 Snuggle coupons to get free Dentastix & Snuggle for $1.00 per bottle. The cashier was very helpful and very impressed so you can bet I keep going back to that store when she is working!

  15. Rachael

I’m sorry to hear that everyone is having such a hard time at their DG stores… I’m in PA and we LOVE OUR Dollar stores, LoL! Although I have to admit they don’t seem to always attract the most forward thinking employees. I have been lucky enough to shop with an EXTREMELY nice employee who gets excited for me to get good deals!

Last week when the Gillette body wash was free I had to go to another DG because I didn’t realize that the sale price was unmarked, and that employee was nice too!

Somethings at DG are SO overpriced, but I’ve gotten really good deals (like the 100oz Snuggle for .99!!!) I think their deals are worth posting, esp for us in PA!

Sorry these managers are such stinkers!!! I think they really just don’t know!!! I think they look at “us” as an inconvenience, they actually have to WORK! That being said, if you want DG deals come visit me in PA! 🙂 I’ll even cook you supper!

    • shannon

where in PA are you? because the DG down the street from me has a jerk for a manager, who treats you like you are a small child who has just done something wrong.

  16. Katrina

The Suave scanned no problem – free deo! My DG didn’t have the Gillette. Will check others.

  17. Karen

I have to say I had a very pleasant experience today at my DG. Our store recently opened and is very nice and clean! I also had wonderful customer service. I purchased 2 suave deoderant’s and 4 welch’s juices. I did have to purchase 2 deoderant’s in a second transaction because the second coupon wouldn’t scan, who knows why. I did hold up the line while we tried to figure things out but the customers behind me were very curious and asked many couponing questions as did the clerk. Of course I passed on the web-site and other couponing sources and everyone was happy. The clerk said she was going home to print coupons and use them to get free deoderant’s tomorrow!!

  18. Jackie

If your family dollar won’t take the coupons price match at Target or Walmart. Walmart will price match just about anything.

  19. Amy

Got a reply back from corporate about the store I visited and the hard time they gave me with my IP’s.

They quoted their own coupon policy in the email – which clearly states they take IP’s and also said: “…In addition, I am sending a copy of this e-mail to a district manager to ensure that all team members at your local Dollar General Market store are aware of this procedure. Please return to the store at your convenience

You are a valued customer here at Dollar General.”

    YEAH!!

  20. fla_gen

I went yesterday; bought 30 cans of dog food, 1 45-ct box of Hefty kitchen 13gal bags, 4 Suave deoderants, 4 Nivea bodywashes, and 2 Gillette bodywashes, 1 Welch’s grape juice, and one pink bouncy ball (my son was w/me).

Total $5.30 + tax. The computer took the first two of my six Mighty Dog coupons, but balked at the other four, so she had to void 20 of the dog foods, then ring each group of five separately. It worked then, and the cashier was sooo patient! I found at home she missed my $1/1 Welch’s, but decided not to pursue it! 🙂

  21. Rajean B

I’m glad to see I’m not the only one that had a problem with the deodorant deal. 🙂 I went to purchase 4 with 2 coupons. The first coupon, no problem. The second coupon did not ring up…I didn’t notice until I got home and the store had just closed. I called right then, and the gentleman said to bring in the receipt and they would refund the money (the cashier had put the unused coupon in her drawer). I went back the next morning, and explained the situation. The ?manager on duty? said that the coupon probably stated one coupon per purchase; therefore, I could only use one. I politely said, “Ok, but I’m still out my coupon because the cashier put it in her drawer.” The employee then said she would go check and get it for me. When she returned, she had both my internet-printed coupons. She gave the one back and asked, “Did you print these from your computer?” I was thinking…”no they came from the newspaper looking like that” (I tend to have a sarcastic personality) I did answer, “Yes.” She told me that they do not accept computer/internet printed coupons. I said that I knew they used to not, but had recently received notice through the “Savings Zone” newsletter that DG does now accept them. She told me that she was never told that. I apologized for her not knowing, took my coupon and left. I called corporate when I got home. Kathy, from corporate, was very friendly and helpful. She sent an email to the district manager, and I am now waiting on the call back from him/her.

Sorry for submitting a book…but I had to share my experience. I love DG and shop there on a regular basis, but this was the first time I had internet coupons to use. I also had in hand 2 coupons for the Welch’s grape juice, but walked out with them since the employee said they didn’t take the coupons…hopefully, I can still get in on the deal – either at my regular DG or another one…this family loves juice!

  22. Heather W

I had a problem at my Dollar General also. I won’t got into details, because it’s not much different. The thing is I was ok they didn’t take the coupon, because I know there are so many other stores I can use them at. The cashier and manager were just so rude to me, because I was using coupons that I couldn’t believe it! The cashier even said right in front of me (about the deo) these are already on sale, I don’t know WHY she needs to use a coupon! They said a lot more rude stuff. I emailed corporate about it. I told them that is fine they don’t want to take the coupon, but they really need to have a brush up on customer service skills!

I got a phone call from the district manager today and he apologized for the way they acted and said he had a meeting today with the letting them know they DO take printable coupons, but that they are no longer taking printables when the coupon is for the full amount of the product. I don’t know if they will apply that to insert coupons as well.
