My dollar general would not take the coupon for this because the manager said it had to be the 3 pack and after I told him it didn’t matter because of there was no size restriction he still would not accept it. Hopefully yalls stores will be nicer than mine!

Our dollar general has been accepting internet coupons, but states that they can no longer accept internet coupons that make an item free. The store said that people were “doctoring” the amount on the coupons, so they no longer could accept them.

My DG wouldn’t take the coupon because it made the item free. They insisted that was against their policy.

My DG will not accept any coupon making the item free. I have also been told this is against their policy.

I was told that also by the district manager of the Dollar General here. I don’t shop at Dollar General for anything anymore. I hope some of you are able to get this deal though! Thanks for posting Collin!

  • I’ve never had Dollar General accept a coupon to make an item free. Would be nice though :)

The register beeped and the clerk said that they couldn’t accept coupons that make an item free. I showed her the policy in my hand and pointed out that my coupon was a $1 coupon, not a “free” coupon. She continued with the position of no free items and even mentioned the picture and suggested it must be a multi-pack purchase. I explained that there are no size requirements listed. I was calmed and thought I had the sensible position in the matter. However, she ended the discussion with, “If the register won’t take it, there is nothing I can do.” Guess I can’t trump that! :(

I told her that I tried to call corporate in the past and couldn’t get anywhere with their phone system. She said…you and me both! The store’s air conditioning has been out for almost one week and corporate hasn’t approved the repairs yet! Poor employees – she had one fan. I could hardly stay in there for 10 minutes without feeling miserable.

Just came from DG in Greenville, SC and I was told they would not accept coupons that made an item free….wish I had read others comments before making the trip!

  • Amanda says:

Mine started not to allow it but then just punched the -1.00 dollar in manually, and I ended up just paying 7 cents in tax. That is one question I wonder about… when an item is “free”, don’t we usually pay tax actually making the item cost a little?…just wondering… thanks!

  • Cheryl says:

My Dollar General said they would take it but when the register beeped she tried it again. After three tries and three beeps she looked very closely at the coupon and said that it must not be taking it because the picture showed a mulitpack and this was just a single. I pointed out that it did not state a size restriction. She said ordinarily that would be the case but since the register would not take it, she couldn’t do anything and that is the only thing she could find.

  • Sarah says:

All they have to do is hit the Manf. Coupon key, go up to the item and punch in the amount of coupon. I just got back from my DG with free Bic pens, and Scotch pop-up tape!! I figure I will have to print more of the post-it coupons and go back and get the flags and try the free Post it notes. :)

I’m sorry to hear about your unlucky stories with DG! Mine’s GREAT. The travel sized crest whitestrips are priced at $4.50 and come with a $7 coupon inside that doesn’t have size restrictions! I always use the $7 cpn to get the $4.50 whitestrips for free + OVERAGE. I do this ALL THE TIME. I’ve used coupons before that I’ve questioned (Ex: $1.00 Colgate Total on a .97 Clearance Colgate toothpaste that’s not ‘total) and it’s NEVER beeped. I make a haul in there all the time because they allow overage and don’t seem to care ever! We have three DG in my town and all three are like this.

I had basically the same experience as most of you. After a rather snide manager snapped at me, “I can read!”, when reading the coupon to her, she told me “we don’t give away things”. The GM was at the store and told her to figure it out and try to make the customer happy. She then called corporate and was told if it wouldn’t scan, she didn’t have to take it. When she got off the phone she mumbled something about fraudulent couponing and read to me my total. I said “no, thank you”, and walked out. Can we get some proper management here! That was 30 minutes of my life I will never get back. Thanks Dollar General.

My DG Store wouldn’t give it to me either. Sure wish I had read the comments before going.

  • Anna in NC says:

I wish I had read the comments 1st! I went today to get the Post-It Flags and ran into the same problem. The manager said they can’t take a coupon that makes an item free or even close to free. Do they not get that money back from the manufacturer? They are gonna lose a lot of coupon shoppers who would have bought other items while there…

  • Samantha says:

My DG store manager said that the coupon had been sent to them as one that is fraudulent. She was actually nice, so I came home and tried to check the CIC website http://www.cents-off.com to see if they had it listed, but the site would not load.

Has anyone had any problems or Collin, can you verify the validity of this coupon?? I know you wouldn’t post something fraudulent intentionally, but I also know that a lot of info travels through a blog like this! I tried to access the coupon from the 3M/Post Its website, but couldn’t .

IF I can find out for sure that it’s legit, I will price match at Target!!! Dollar General had some back to school circulars that had the Post It Flags listed as being $1 through sometime in September!
