My walmart won’t take anything where the coupon exceeds the price of the item. They refuse to adjust it or anything. The coupon policy is so short that it doesn’t even mention it. Is this some kind of “stores may vary” coupon style?

    • Paulette

I just sent am email to Walmart Corporate about this, we’ll see if I get a response. 🙂

      • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

So this was my written email to Walmart…..
“I have a question about using coupons at Walmart. I am a big coupon shopper and I have sometimes had issues using particular coupons. For example If you sell a product for $.97 and I have a coupon for $1.00 off that product, can I still use it? Most other retailers I shop at will adjust the coupon down to match the price of the item, however I have had a problem with this at your store. Sometimes the cashier will tell me I can’t use the coupon if the cost of the item is lower than the coupon amount, it is quite disappointing. I have read the Walmart Coupon policy and this subject is not mentioned. I would really appreciate it if you could help me out with this. Thank you so much.”

And this was the response I got……

Thank you for your recent correspondence regarding the acceptance of coupons at Walmart. Our guidelines generally allow for the following types of coupons to be accepted:

        – manufacturer coupons (Cents Off)
        – free merchandise (or manufacturer’s Buy-One-Get-One-Free) coupons
        – store coupons
        – internet coupons
        – soft drink container caps

A salaried manager may refuse to accept a coupon if it does not meet certain criteria.

Coupon guidelines and limits include but are not limited to the following:

Walmart only accepts coupons for merchandise we sell and only when presented at the time of purchase. Coupons should have an expiration date and be presented within the valid dates. Walmart will not accept expired coupons or double/triple coupons. Internet coupons should be legible and say “Manufacturer Coupon_ and there should be a valid remit address for the manufacturer and scannable bar code. Store Coupons must reflect a specific sale price or original price and must be available to all customers. For ‘Free’ merchandise coupons, customers will not receive cash back — the cashier will adjust the value of the coupon to the actual retail of the item at the time of sale. In addition, only one coupon per item is permitted and use of 40 or more coupons per transaction will require approval by a Customer Service Manager.

        Sincerely,
        Walmart Customer Care

So they didn’t specifically answer my question but it does say in there that for “free” merchandise coupons the cashier will adjust the price of the coupon down. Well the coupon is not technically for a “free” product but I think if should fall into the same category, so I will print my email and take it with me to walmart just in case they give me any trouble.

  3. Matt

  4. Tracy

  5. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I was able to get the Gain dishsoap from Wal Mart using the $1.00 coupon with no troubles today, Yay! & whew (because I was expecting issues)!

    • Melindatx3

did the coupon beep? if it beeps my walmart wont take it…..

      • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

yes it beeped but the cashier pushed it through.

  6. Chranglee

My Rite Aid took the $1 coupon with no problem and it gave the full $1 off so it was like being paid .11 to buy it. Of course I had other filler items like pampers with a $1.50 off and a coupon for free pampers wipes too!

  7. Anna in NC

Just bought 2 of these at Harris Teeter for $ .99 (only had the original scent) if you can’t find them anywhere else.

Thanks for the heads up about Rite Aid > $ .89. I will go there later. One of my papers had 4 P&G inserts in it. Score!!

Anybody else feel weird buying dish soap from a laundry detergent company???

    • couponmaniac

when it’s free who cares? Lol 🙂

    • Katie

Yeah a little lol but I’ll get over it! It’s kind of like as if McDonald’s starting selling their dish soap or something, maybe not to that extreme lol but I heard the Gain smells really nice!

    • Sarah

Not at all! Most of the companies that sell Laundry Soap also sell dish soap. And Gain is from P&G who also makes Dawn…

    • lisa

Basically, the ingredients are thesame just a little dilution.

Well I was excited to find the 11oz Gain at Walmart the other day, because I had a FREE 11oz Gain coupon and couldn’t find it at CVS, Publix, Doll Gen, or Fam Dollar. I forgot where I got the coupon, but now I’m hoping to get some more for free w/the coupon in todays’s paper. Haven’t looked yet, so hope it’s in the Chas, SC paper 🙂

    • fairydust

I got that free Gain coupon too – it was part of a mailer and the Gain and another coupon weren’t usable until August, so I waited, then couldn’t find it anywhere. LOL! I will definitely re-check our Walmart now.

  10. praznow

I went to rite aid to purchase the soap and it took the 3 cashiers and over 7 tries to do the deal. They didn’t even know it was on sale. WHAT!! My husband just wanted to leave because a line was growing and they didn’t even open another register and take the line down. I said your corporate policy does allow for coupon adjustment. UGH!!!

  11. Erin O

My walmart only had the 80oz size. They had them for $1.75 so with the $1.00Q I only paid $.75. Still not a bad deal. Especially when you don’t have dishwasher like me. I’m always on the hunt for dish soap deals. 🙂

  12. Alana

The cashier at my Walmart tried to say that the PG coupon was for a larger size of Gain dish soap. I politely informed her that it did not say that anywhere on the coupon, and when she scanned it, it did not beep, so she finally let it go. I had one coupon sent to me in the mail for 1 free 11 oz Gain dish soap as well, and she tried to say that I had to purchase one first, but the coupon was clearly for a FREE one, and besides I was already purchasing one with the other coupon. Luckily the guy behind me was getting impatient, so she finished my transaction reluctantly. None of my coupons beeped, for the record. Very annoying experience, but at least everything worked out in the end. 🙂

Went to walmart today to get Gain dish soap:) I am not sure if it is just my walmart, but they are so not good with coupons. i had 16 coupons for Gain, totally stocking up and I give some to family, etc. But they made me ring them up seperately. They said that it wasn’t right that i was getting them for free. So they came up with the idea of ringing them up seperately, didn’t bother me though, i stood there with coupons in hand and give her one at a time. I didn’t get my tide there though, i asked them to put it back and I would just run to target. I LOVE my target, they are so much friendlier with coupons. I did call corporate to find out why that happened, should be getting a call back this week. Interesting.

  14. Ann

I tried the Gain coupon at Walmart today – it beeped but the front supervisor allowed it to go through for $1 each (had 4). But…would not allow the Tide $1 coupon on ANY size go through on the travel size priced at 97 cents because it states in the fine print that it was valid only on the size(s) indicated. By this time, the store manager appeared so I asked him why their coupons policy seems to change week to week. He looked at the coupon and said that the fine print is to be interpreted as being the large size pictured. I said that that could be interpreted as referencing the word “any” size. He agreed but said that the picture is for the consumer and the fine print is for the store. Does that make sense? Also said that if other cashiers take it, he wouldn’t argue with that. Anyway, he was impressed at my great shopping deals with coupons and asked when he could sign up for my next couponing class. ha. I just told him that I have been couponing for over 25 years and that when my business teacher husband was teaching, he would use my couponing techniques in his classes. Oh…and the cashier thanked my for being so patient. 🙂

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

” said that the picture is for the consumer and the fine print is for the store.”

The picture is a marketing tool to get you to purchase the largest item – the coupon is for any size.

  15. Courtney

UGH! So I went to Walmart to stock up on soap. I had 15 coupons and the store had at least 80 soaps in stock. I get to the register and listen to my cashier and the head cashier brag back and forth about how they both called in sick cuz “they just didn’t feel like being there” blah blah I didn’t feel like being there either but that is a different story. Anyway she scans all 15 then when I hand her the q’s she just up and walks away….no beeping…nothing…then she returns and says “You can’t use these cuz the coupon exceeds the item value and you can’t have that many” I asked for the Supervisor so the cashier turns around and yells “she wants to talk to you” NICE! The supervisor comes over and stares at me, now she know why I am asking for her…Really? a stare down? Whatever so I ask her why she can’t adjust them down and she keeps telling me the same thing “the coupon exceeds the item value and you have too many” She proceeds to tell me that all Walmarts have different coupon rules and how they don’t even take bogo q’s anyway she wore me down. I took their names and called corporate. What a waste of time and energy. Why can some people not stand to see us get deals? I mean she obviously didn’t care much about her job cuz she was bragging about calling in…so why did she turn into the coupon police when I gave her the Q’s. It is so frustrating. When I called corporate the guy said they should have taken it at full value and applied the difference to my other purchases…EXACTLY! I am sure a different cashier probably would have taken it…I profiled the cashiers, but I didn’t have many choices…guess I picked wrong. LOL!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

What TERRIBLE customer service! I can’t believe how rude some people are – they truly did not want you as their customer – I’m glad you called corporate though.

    • Melindatx3

How terrible! I had a bad coupon experience at walmart yesterday too. I went to return some little swimmers that I knew we wouldnt have time to use this season. I was told I could not get money back that I had to exchange them for more diaper. Stupid policy but I knew it would be that way so no suprise. So I went and got 2 small packs of pampers and 2 packs of wipes. I used (2) $2 off pampers coupons and (2) free wipes with the purchase of any pampers diaper coupons. I was told I couldnt get the wipes since I used a coupon for the diapers. I told her that the first 2 Qs were for the diapers and the second 2 Qs were for the wipes. 4 items, 4 coupons. she still wouldnt let me. The CS line was building and I wasnt int he fighting mood. Seems like if a deal is too good they try to stop us. So frustrating!

  16. Micki

Hello! I’m new to this. Where do I find the PG Coupons?

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

They come in a P&G insert in the Sunday Paper along with Red Plum and Smart Source. Usually P&Gs are only in the first Sunday paper of the month. HTH.
