Rite Aid: FREE Contour USB Meter (Plus, $10 in Overage to go Towards Other Items?!)

Hip2Save may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you via trusted partners and affiliate links in this post. Prices and availability are accurate as of time posted. Read our full disclosure policy here.

I guess this week is definitely a week for Rite Aid shopping… I can’t believe all the deals I’ve already posted! And with that being said, here is yet another one. Just check out the email I received from reader, Diane, below:

Rite Aid has a $40.00 coupon on the video values site for a Contour USB meter. They are on sale this week for $29.99. When they scanned all my coupons, the extra $10.00 went towards my other purchases. Great gift for a diabetic friend or family member for FREE plus $10.00 in overage!!!!!!!!!

Now I cannot guarantee that these Contour USB Meters are priced the same at your local Rite Aid or that you’ll get the $10 in overage (to go towards other items in your transaction) if they are. So with that said, make sure to come back and let us know if this awesome deal works for you too!

(Thanks for passing this along, Diane!)

**Check out all the other Rite Aid deals I’ve posted recently (which is quite a lot!) here— make sure to scroll past this post.

    Thanks collin I am a happy couponer 🙂 🙂 🙂

  2. Jennifer

Last night before all the comments got deleted (good call, it was a bit nasty) I told another poster that I would send her my meter if I found one… I didn’t write done her e-mail and now it’s gone. So… if you posted last night and I answered please post your e-mail again 🙂 I did get the overage from the VV coupon but I decided not to use my MQ, although I kind of wish I had because I had to go to a few stores to find it and that took some gas.

    • Sarah

Hi Jennifer, it was Jessica Quick who posted and she posted again (scroll through and you’ll see it in earlier comments on this post). I just sent her an e-mail offering mine. So now, she just needs to decide which one of us she wants to send it to her 🙂

Collin, whenever you see comments about greed, etc. from hateful posters, I hope you can see comments like this and think “Wow, here are two Hip2Savers fighting over who they can send their free monitor to! LOL 🙂 🙂

      • Jennifer

Thanks Sarah. I didn’t want to keep reading all the comments again about overage and whatnot! You are so RIGHT! Collin, I’m 25 and couponing has helped me to become a planner. Once you learn something like this, it gives you skills that can impact other areas of your life and other people in your life. If there’s a deal I don’t want to do, I move one. If I miss a deal, I don’t cry, I just wait for another one. Just like in life, if something doesn’t work out look forward to the things that do. I know that for me personally, sites like this have been a blessing. So anywho… thanks for all you do!

    • Lisa Dawson

Thank you! My Rite Aid manager is awesome and she allowed me to use it!

      • shannon

dang it i just went and got this deal and came home and saw this.

      • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

The manager at one of my local stores allowed me to use the VV $40 and the Manufacturers $20 coupon and even the $5/$25 so we ended up being able to purchase an additional $35 of merchandise for free from the coupon overage! I love the managers at our local stores. They are great. They said the store would still be reimbursed by the manufacturer so as long as the register would take it then they would allow it 🙂

        • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

which rite aid did you go to?

    • Flying angel

Had anyone heard from rite aid that they don’t take online coupon more than $5 as per their policy? I was not able to use the $20.

  3. Jennifer

Someone posted that there was a rebate on this item as well. Anyone remeber or have the link? I guess it got deleted, I can not find it…

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I think someone had mentioned the Diabetes +5 UP reward for a $30 purchase, but this meter does not qualify for the extra up reward

  4. Shannon

Where does everyone donate their meters to? I have some I would like to find homes for.

    • Lisa

I work in a middle school and donate mine to the school. The school nurse keeps some and takes the rest to inservices. Other school nurses were thrilled to have them, especially in disadvantaged areas.

      • Shannon

Thanks Lisa! I will check with my school nurses to see if they can use them. We definitely live in a “disadvantaged” area.

    • WhoMe

if anyone has any extra meters I will gladly take them. I have several families in the area who have someone in need of a reliable meter. Contact me at whome1095@hotmail.com

  5. Anonymous

I work for rite aid and i am a couponer,if the cashiers are doing there job right they should not be giving overages on coupons it should be adjusted down!I am amazed at how many people argue with a cashier over this.

    • Jay

Policy is pretty clear on this, “Coupon redemption can never exceed the selling price of an item.”

  6. rockmama75

I went to my RA today and was excited to find that there was one meter left on the shelf and it was marked down to $29.99. The cashier looked at my coupon and said I couldn’t use it because it was for more than the price of the meter. I asked politely if she could just adjust it down for me and she agreed (with manager approval). I was perfectly fine with this since I was still getting a FREE meter. Although I am not diabetic, my mom is and she will be excited to receive this 🙂 Thanks Collin!!

  7. Paige

I went to my Rite Aid today and found that the meters were there, but not marked on sale, but they rang up the $29.99 price. The cashier scaned the coupon and allowed the overage no problem. My husband was recently diagnosed with diabetes, so this is perfect for a diabetic with OCD!

Thanks for the great tips. I tell all my coupon friends about you and you quickly become everyone’s favorite site!

  8. LYNDA

do you just take it to the counter to see the price? I would love one of these but my rite aid has them for 79.99 and I live on a strict budget so I can’t afford the extra 40.00 to pay for this..

    • Lisa Dawson

I was in this morning and mine were marked 74.99. I decided not to get it b/c I can’t afford the extra money also. I went back this evening and they had a sale tag up saying 29.99. I think they are on sale, but not marked everywhere. If it rings up wrong, I guess say you changed your mind??

I know overage is not “allowed,” but my manager does allow it. She also said I could use the $20 printable, which is usually not allowed. This was a HUGE help to us; we had unexpected expenses this month and our account was close to the negative. We have savings, but if it’s not a TRUE emergency, we try not to touch it. I was able to get diapers, milk, and other needs because of the overage. My total was 46 cents after all coupons… $6.xx after taxes. I had a GC, so nothing OOP and got several UPS back (for the dipes). i have 3 in diapers, so deals are the BIGGEST help!

      • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

my manager was the same way and it truly is a blessing when it is given this way =) Thank you to our friendly managers for allowing us to do this!

  9. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Totally off subject but does anyone have the $5/$25 PDF that expires on 11/31? If so could you forward to aafeevans@yahoo.com! Thanks in advance!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

the 11/31 one does not work,it comes up unknown.

      • Jennifer

does the one that expires on 12/31 work?

      • Annonymous

Used them tonight and it didn’t beep. Just give it a try. You’ll never know until you give it a try.

    • donna

Rite Aid doesn’t accept the PDF coupons anymore.

      • donna

Should I say, the 5/25 pdf coupons

        • Lisa Dawson

I used one about an hour ago,. It is the 5/25 that expires 10/31. It was scan-able and didn’t even beep.

      • shannon

mine does, ive been using them all week and no one has said a word about it.,

        • Manda

I used one today and it didtn beep

          • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Talked with my store’s mgr the other day. He says he keeps up with corp emails and nothing has been sent in regards to the $5/25 pdfs or redplum printables.

  10. Melinda P

I have diabetes. I’ve wanted one of these for a LONG time (okay, not that long, it’s a pretty new meter, LOL), but still. I’m hoping hoping hoping there is still one on the shelf and that it rings up for the sale price and that I’m allowed to use the VV coupon. Please please please!!! 🙂

    • Melinda P

Yay, there was one left! I am so thrilled! 🙂

  11. Manda

I went today and got one and I DID infact get the overage! My rite aid store is pretty super duper. My mom has only an older meter and I like how this one can be connected to the computer for her to moniter her levels!

  12. Danielle Miller

I got one today! And they did give me the overage. I combined it with the greeting card and candy deal, so my total was like $80 before coupons, then after coupons it was down to $12. Got back another $10 in ups. Made for a really awesome deal. Thanks Collin!

  13. Sara W

The $40 VV worked for me. If they don’t want people to use it they shouldn’t put out a coupon and put it on sale at the same time.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I totally agree with you. And even worst they have it advertised in the store with the sale price sticker then beside it a $40.00 Video Value you can use with it on the shelves. Can you believe this a RA cashier arguing with me that the November VV are not out yet because it is still October.

      • shannon

        LOL (about cashier)
yes, at my store they had a tag up advertising the sale price, then right underneath it, was a tag taped up advertising the $40.00 vv coupon. i feel bad for all of the people complaining about the overage and saying that it is coupon fraud and all of that garbage 🙁 collin works so hard to put up all of these deals, and it sucks when people dont appreciate it. we are not trying to trick rite aid, or take advantage of them. they know their policy, if they take the coupon, and let the overage go through, then yay! if not, then fine!

  14. angela

that was ridiculous! i got the meter with overage, then got three packs of huggies, two colgate toothpaste, two NYC lipglosses and two NYC nail polish all for $2.09!

    used $5/25
    3 $2.50 huggies
    2 $1.00 colgate
    1 $1.00 colgate (video)
    2 $1.00 NYC
    and only one $1 UP.

CRAZY! i felt like i was robbing the store!

    • angela

oh, and i still have about $10.00 in UP from it!

      • Shannon

Me too. I almost felt bad for “robbing” them, but my cashier even commented on what a great deal I got.

  15. LYNDA

going back today and see if I can get it please keep your fingers crossed for me….my rite aid is not to friendly with couponers…..

  16. Jessica

Got my meter today, they only had one left. The cashier is so slow and checks everything but I didnt get overage so she called the manager to make sure I could use the coupon on the product. WOW…But I got the meter and 1 Pillow Pal for 19.99 with $2UP, that my daughter has been wanting. Gonna give away the meter to someone locally!

  17. Suzanne

Just wonder how she got it for 29.99 in my rite aid it was $75.99. Is it avertised or it just scanned that way?

  18. Jennifer R.

I just did this deal in Metro Detroit and it made my cashier go, “and your total is, $2.37 – holy crap.” Funniest thing I’ve seen in awhile.

  19. Amanda

They are marked $79,99 at my local Rite Aid. It tells you about the $40 coupon on the Rite Aid website. I was in a hurry and didnt have time to do a price check. Ill check on my way home from work today… or maybe Ill call the store and ask!

    • darunima

so why didn’t you have the courage to pick it up and take it to the nearest register and ask for a “price check, please”. I just don’t get why ppl don’t take it to the register and check, my god is it really that difficult to fathom not all sale priced items are marked!

  20. Shannon

I got mine yesterday. Received $20 in overage between the video coupon and mfg coupon. They paid me $5(after receiving $10 reward for candy deal Colin posted about) and I got over 60$ of savings! Woop woop.

  21. Jennifer P

Is the coupon no longer available on the VV site? I can’t find the video anywhere….

  22. Ling

today, i just got the last contour usb meter on the shelf for my diabetic dh. it was tagged 74.99 but rang up 29.99. spent my overage on wahl clippers that i sooo wanted and needed so i can just trim my boys’ hair and dh’s if he’d let me. i also got 2 nyc nail polish free from getting 1 nyc duet eyeliner and nyc liquid lip shine. the wahl is 24.99. i used a 4/20, a 5 off wahl vv, a b1g1 nyc from all you mag and a 1+up from last week’s. total is 6.97 + tax, got 2 1+up from nyc purchase and i’m going to send the wahl receipt for a $5 rebate. after all is said and done, i got everything for FREE! i am definitely happy with this shopping trip. thanks for posting!

  23. vicki

after not finding any on shelf, I talked to the pharmacist, she said any rite aid pharmacist can special order the meter for you, and they usually arrive within 24 hours, so everyone can take advantage of this dela. as a diabetic myself, i have wanted to try this meter, as it hooks up to computer, and I also have a mother and 3 of my 5 brothers who are diabetic, so we definately use the meter deals when they come around.

    • Kathie S.

I was just coming to post this! I had them order one for me yesterday and wanted to make sure it actually came in. Not only did it come in, but the pharmacist had put a $35 off coupon with it so I could get it free (he didn’t know I had the $40 one already). They don’t do overage at my RA so I thought this was really great of him!

  24. sandra

I have 2 of the Bayer meters to donate if anyone really needs 1. Found them at 2 different Rite Aids in 2 different towns and used the overage to buy candy for our 350+ kiddos at our church’s trunk or treat. Just email me at tbolesjr@triad.rr.com.

  25. Jay

It’s in the diabetes section, checked a few minutes ago.

    • Emily

What aisle is the diabetes section normally? sorry, i just want to make sure before my big trip of the week 🙂

  26. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

just got back from the store,
bought the meter and used my vv, and got the $10. overage..
thank you to all for all these fantastic deals..

  27. Emily

Does anybody know what aisle the contour meters are normally in ? and if the 20 dollar MFC coupon scans taking off the 20 ? thanks! 🙂

    • Jay

Mine were right in front of the pharmacy, didn’t have a sale tag but the box kinda sticks out. (black box with a glucose monitoring system that resembles a giant flash drive)

  28. LYNDA

I got one but no overage. it also has a sticker on the outside that says something about 150.00 value inside….unsure what this means as I found no coupons inside.. on a bad note yesterday when to rite aid and tried to use most of my rewards seems I didn’t watch the girl close enough and she scanned two extra dollar ones and said my total was too low to use them…so tried to used them today and that cashier said they had already been used.so I lost 2 dollars.

    • Lisa Dawson

Call corporate. They should be able to reissue them for you, even if it’s a one time courtesy. this happened to me with a 10 UP!!

      • Mary Beth

When this happened to me, I explained to the cashier that the UPs had been scanned but not able to be used because there was too much tax, and that’s why it must be beeping. Because the explanation was true and made sense, she was able to key it in a different way, I think as a sort of generic $1 coupon. It was one of the more coupon friendly stores, though.

    • Sarah Bloedel

When the coupons are used, they take them. There is no way they would be used and you would get them back. I’ve had this happen several times and I always just say – well, I didn’t use them!! and they manually take off the amount for me

  29. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I had mine on sale for $19.99!!!!!Made my purchase of $21.00 OVERAGE!!!!! 🙂 So I ended up paying about I think almost $70 worth of stuff for $0.23! PLUS I got 5 UPs for the Nivea & 2-2 UPs for the Alka-Seltzer Plus! 9 UPs overage!!!!!

  30. kristen

Has anyone tried using the $10 q from the 8/8 RP along with the $40 VV, or the $20 mf printable? I’m thinking about attempting this today… the extra overage to buy some diapers would be awesome!

    • Sarah Bloedel

I used the $20 manuf coupon first & then the $40 vv coupon. I also did the candy & alkaseltzer deals to absorb the overage. It ended up being 65 cents before tax and I got back $26 in UP rewards!! The $20 coupon prompts them to enter the price of the coupon and she just entered it as $20.

      • kristen

Thanks so much! I’m headed there right now so hopefully they will take both!

        • Sarah Bloedel

          Good luck!

          • kristen

Woohoo! They took both q’s and I got $30 in overage! Someone on another blog said this didn’t work for them – you must have to hand over the manufacturer’s q first and then the vv like you said. Thanks so much!

    • Sarah Bloedel

      awesome!!!!!

  31. Lisa

The 3 RA stores close to us are all out of these. My 4 year old son has Type 1 diabetes and the Contour is the preferred brand for our insurance plan so we pay a little less for these test strips. I got a raincheck and am hoping I can get one of these in the next week or so. If there is anyone in Utah with one they don’t need, we would love to come get it from you! We have paid almost $6,000 this year on his Diabetes treatment and supplies, and there are a lot of families out there who struggle with the financial side of it like we do so it is heart-warming to see so many meters being donated. My email is lisa.p.marsh@gmail.com

    • Michelle L.

      Lisa,

My store was out too. I had the pharmacist order one (24-hr wait) and the store manager said he’d adjust the price on the one coming (the pharmacist said if she ordered it wouldn’t be sale price). You might want to try this.

I don’t know if I’ll get overage yet. I’m leaving shortly to find out.

    • Mindy

Lisa, I am in Utah and you are welcome to it, I e-mailed you.

  32. Stephanie

So my store had it priced at 74$ but it came up as 29.99 at the register. They accepted the 40$ coupon but had to makr it down to 29.99. HOWEVER I stack this with some huggies diapers and used a 5 off 25 coupon, 3$ off Huggies coupon and paid 0.99 out of pocket with 2 Ups in return. Excited to try this product!

  33. Jacklyn

I was so excited to snag this freebie product for my husbands grandmother. At my RA they had them marked down to 29.99 and I used my 40.00 off and I got the overage!!! I was so excited to see my overage put towards all my other things!!! I paid 4.67 and got back 5.00 in wellness bucks!! Thanks for this great deal!! What a great find!

  34. laura

I just went to RA and was really excited to use my $40 q. It showed $74.99, so I took it to the cashier (who happened to be the store manager), and it rang up at $29.99. The cashier refused my q. He said I could either use the q and pay full-price or purchase it for the sale price but overage is not allowed. Has anyone else had this issue?

  35. Lindy

Just ran back to my store (for the 2nd time today) to get the meter deal. OOS, but I got a raincheck! 🙂

  36. Chelsea

I snagged the last USB meter and used the $40 off coupon and the $10 off coupon that i found in the 8/8 RP.So i got the USB meter and $20 worth of beauty products free and only had to pay tax!

  37. cathy

I just wanted everyone to know that the Rite Aid in Burlington, NC. has the USB meter on sale through November 24, 2010. So if you didn’t get a chance to purchase one this week, save your coupon to use next month.

  38. Kelly

I just went to Rite Aid on Wednesday morning, and I actually was lucky enough to get the last Bayer meter they had, my $10 in overage went through perfectly and I had a 10% off wellness coupon to put towards my overage items as well, I got the meter, dog treats, 3 packs of birthday candles, and a coloring book as a halloween gift to my nephew for .02 cents total!! Collin, you’re awesome, keep the deals coming, they are the best!!

  39. sue

WELL, I guess that when you pay for your transaction, its OK to get overcharged by $10-$30 because the retailer is just making a mistake and its OK…… oh, but wait…….its only OK when its in YOUR favor !!!!!! Anyone can see that this was a marketing error made by Rite Aid, and its wrong to take advantage of it. I just cant do it, wont do it, no way. REPORT IT TO RITE AID !! Anyone against this transaction……email or phone Rite Aid and report it !! Also the posting should be removed for ethical reasons.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

you are a piece of work. You are obviously on this site to find deals and when you actually find an awesome deal you complain. I was able to get two of these because I saw it here and now I have two items to donate to someone who needs them. And with the overage my baby has a couple packs of diapers. If you choose not to do a deal then fine but you should be ashamed of yourself for trying to spoil it for others. There are many out here who couldn’t afford this item otherwise. Why don’t you go get one and donate it and then maybe you won’t be such a bitter person. Are you sure you’re not my cashier from Walgreens??

    • Flying angel

YOU are so self righteous!!! On the other hand YOU should STOP using this website. create your own website that you can recruit others with the same opinion as yourself. Shame on you making remarks here, and while everybody’s trying to help each other, here you are, acting like you are so perfecttttt! You are so BOLD to say REPORT IT. That is your right, but don’t try to recruit here go somewhere else.

    • Candice

Sue, STFU! Google it if you don’t know what it means.

  40. tiffany

WOW!! Why are some of you so down right cruel. If you have nothing positive or nice to say than don’t say anything at all. I was able to get one of these the other day and got the overeage too; used that on food. If I was refused the overage that would have been ok. My SIL was able to get 2 from 2 different stores. It seems this is a new item (as they are on sale w/ ECB’s at CVS the week of 10/31) and there’s high value q’s out. This was probably a marketing error on RA’s part but that’s not our problem. They put the q out so we’re using it!!

  41. snshncherry

My RA (Portland, OR) had one more in stock and I was able to purchase it with $10 in overages. If someone needs it, please contact me: snshncherry at gmail dot com. If any one knows of a place to donate these meters or any medical supplies (dayquil, asprin, etc.) in the Portland OR area, please let me know!

  42. M

Does this deal end 10/30 or can I use it during this week (10/31 – 11/6) ?

  43. M

Does the deal end 10/30 or can I get this deal this week as well (10/31 – 11/6) ?

  44. xb

Is this deal over? I thought I read that it might be a monthly long deal at 29.99, but today I finally got over there and it rang up at 74.99 (so I didn’t get it). Does anyone know if this deal over?
