I have a question. When some of the restaurants say $35 purchase, etc. Does that mean that you have to pay cash out of $35, or that your total bill (before any cards or discounts) must be $35?

    • Wanda

It’s the total bill — but I think that is excluding alcoholic beverages (at the discretion of the restaurant)

    • AFriend

At the restaurant we frequent, they add the tip, alcohol, everything up and then take the $25 discount off. So we only have to pay $10, depending on what we ordered.

      • paulemay

So what if I have 2 $25 gift certificates?? Can I leave the restaurant paying $0 out of pocket if my total is less than $50???

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

purchase before discount must be $35

  2. AFriend

I just purchased $25 certificates through Shop-at-home. I was charged $3 for each one after the 80%. Did restaurant.com certificates go up in price, or does shop-at-home charge more for things because of the cash back?

    • AFriend

Okay, so $25 certificates are $10 at restaurant.com and $15 through shopathome. After the 80% discount, they are $3 and you’ll get 30% cash back, which is $0.90, costing $0.10 more than from restaurant.com. So I’m spending more time ordering and paying more! Not worth it!

      • goosemonkey

huh? i just ordered 3 at $2 each going through shopathome. not sure why it’s not working for you but i had no issues using shopathome…

      • Linda

I’m confused by that too. I bought a $25 certificate and it was also $3. Hmmmm.

        • goosemonkey

here’s my guess. go back and check what the original price is on the certificate you selected. the majority of $25 certificates are originally $10 which would make them $2 after discount. however, there are several that cost more originally. so maybe the certificate was originally $15 which would make it $3 regardless of whether or not you used shopathome…

I would really sugguest calling the restaurant and verify they are part of this. I gave several to a local place last year as stocking stuffers for the adults and the restaurant would not except them. Restaurant.com did give me my money back and told me that the place I bought them from was in violation of their contract with them. That didn’t help me out at all….

    • Linda

I agree. There are 2 listed in my area where one restaurant closed a couple of months ago and I heard the other restaurant doesn’t accept the certificates anymore. So why are they still selling them? Weird.

      • Danielle

A restaurant in my area quit accepting the certificates. I received an email from Restaurants.com stating that and giving me a credit for the $25 certificate that I had previously purchased. I was able to purchase a replacement certificate with great ease.

So excited! I check for places near me every time you post this deal and today was the first time there was a place near me included because I don’t live near a big city!! Woohoo. I think I will wrap it up in hubby’s stocking for a cheaper date night.

  5. katelyn

There are no restaurants that they have that I’m looking for. They don’t have any for My town whatsoever: (

  6. KimF

Very nice… paid $2 for a $25 certificate. Still a good deal even if our minimum order has to be $35. Very excited to try this new restaurant in town!

  7. randel

ebates gives 15% and it is SOOOO easy and painless. no fees no NOTHING. go through them!

  8. paulemay

Ok So I was thinking of getting these and giving them as a gift to a family member but I’m not sure they will know how to use them. Does anyone have an opinion on this? Is it too much hassle to use as a gift?? I have never used restaurants.com before, any input would be helpful. Thanks

    • tilla ham

just my opinion, and we all know about opinions:), If i were to give one of these a gift, I think it is a lot of hassle. Unless you know for sure the person frequents that establishment already, and it will save them a bit of money. Really though on a certificate where you must spend 35, you are going to spend at least 20 out of pocket for the remainder and tip, and more if drinks are involved. It’s a great idea but to me it’s more like a coupon than a gift certificate.

      • paulemay

Thank You!!! One more question. You have to spend a minim of $35, so if I have 2 $25 certificates can I leave the restaurant paying $0 out of pocket??

        • Annie

You can only use one per visit ( and sometimes one per month per customer). It’s still a great deal if you like the restaurant anyway. I also, personally, would not give them as gifts as it is really not a certificate and you have to make sure you get over the $35 to use it which means you will still have to pay for the meal….you will just get more food for less money.

          • paulemay

Thank You. I think I will not go for using them as gifts. I want my gift recipients to not have to pay anything for their meal. Thanks again.

  9. Lizzie Smith

I got 2 certificate for $4 and then paid through paypal and they gave me back $5 for adding my bank account information… All in all 2 certificates for free plus a $1 moneymaker 🙂 Couldn’t be happier… Dinner is on me tonight

    • goosemonkey

did you do something special? i opted to pay with paypal but don’t see anything about $5. i’d love to do this deal, but not sure how…

  10. Karen

Awesome…I just snagged a $25 coupon for $3 to a restaurant that my husband will use since he works out of state! He’s gonna love his steak dinner!!

  11. sarah

This deal always sounds so tempting, but when I check out the restaurants in my area (near a big city) they aren’t places I would ever go.

  12. jocelyn

I got my sister the 3 month dinner of the month club membership ($25 gift certificate every month) for just $6!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Shes finally starting a new diet and doing GREAT at it so I wanted to help her reward herself by going out to places normally out of her price range that serve foods shes allowed.

great deal for people like her in big cities..

    I live in a small town :/

  13. Kelly

This is the first time to purchase these and I bought several. I am giving 2 away as an anniversary gift – hope they do not have any trouble with them. Any body have BAD luck with these in the Kansas City Missouri area??

    • Annie

Just double check that the restaurants still accept them as I did have the experience of finding out that one of the restaurants in my area stopped accepting them Fortunately, I found out before I got to the restaurant, but that would be disappointing if your friends were to go to celebrate their anniversary and not be able to use it. Also, as I said before, you still need to pay at least $20 towards your meal so I’m not sure if you are thinking of giving them something to cover that part too. They really are more like discount coupons than certificates. Saying that, my husband and have used quite a few of them and haven’t had any other problems (in Ohio)

  14. Jessica

How long are these certificates good for?

    • Karen

The certificate information says they don’t expire.

    • romy

mr rebates also has 30% back.. i prefer to use this cashback site because it gives u more cashback than the other sites for all the stores..

      https://www.mrrebates.com?refid=476181

  15. Heidi

I bought 4 $25 gift cards, paid $12 total for them, and will get 15% in my upromise account!

  16. Diane L.

We used a Restaurant.com gift certificate at Stella’s in Fargo, ND last weekend. This is a very nice place to eat, and we paid a total of $32 for 3 entrees, 3 sodas, and the mandatory 18% gratuity. We were very pleased with the deal!

  17. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

So, some of these restaurants are talking about 18% gratuity and $35 minimums and $50 minimums. Doesn’t that kind of negate the greatness of the deal? I mean, what if you don’t want to spend that much?! It just doesn’t seem right to get that as a gift for someone and then maybe they can’t use it….

  18. Kwan

I’ve generally found restaurants.com to be pretty worthless. Even though I live in the San Francisco Bay Area, a region with more restaurants than most states have people, there is only ONE restaurant listed in my city and only FIVE within a 10 mile radius. Of those, every one of them is both wildly expensive and has tons of negative reviews on Yelp.

    No thanks.
