Holiday Travel: Oh isn't it Fun?
Hip’s 5 Holiday Traveling Tips:
(1.) Make sure your carry on is filled with Advil, a toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, lotion, a stress ball, a change of clothes, snacks… and definitely a hair brush (unless you want to have the hairdo above).
(2.) Do NOT plan to travel a few weeks after your spouse has surgery.
(3.) Immediately check Airport map for Starbucks. Caffeine is essential to your survival.
(4.) Make sure to double up the barf bag. They are very thin.
(5.) Smooth Move Tea… lighten your load and I’m not talking about your baggage! 😉
If you couldn’t tell from my tips above, I’ve had such a wonderful holiday traveling experience so far! 🙂 Alright, so yes, there is a little bit of sarcasm there. We left yesterday to head to Boise for Thanksgiving… well, we just arrived a few hours ago and were supposed to be there last night. There was a delay on our first flight, we missed the second flight, stayed in a hotel with no luggage, woke up a few hours later looking oh so lovely and then got on our final plane to Boise. Definitely an interesting experience… especially with 3 kiddos in tow and a hubby who recently had surgery on his calf.
*NOTE: The Walgreens deals will be up shortly… I posted them earlier and had to quickly remove the post. I actually had posted the deals with all the Walgreens coupons from the November coupon booklet– which won’t be valid tomorrow. Oops!!
Not sure about you Collin, but I could really do without this cold weather in Idaho. The snow today made me grumpy.
your adorable and posts like these are so endearing! hang in there, it has got to get better!
Oh my, that picture made me bust a gut!! LOVE IT!! Hope you have a great time with your family in BOISE. Bet you see lots of BLUE AND ORANGE!! Maybe I’ll see you on Black Friday out shopping 🙂
How did the TSA deal go? I know being groped is horrible and gross, but I sure hope you guys opted out of the radiation (cumulative – to skin and eyes). :S
Hope you’re having a good time now – and that you don’t fret too much about keeping it all 100% perfect and up to date here – you’ve taught us well – we’ll be fine! 😀
I’m glad your hubby is doing well enough to travel. Welcome back to Boise! We’re traveling about 600 miles by car less than a month after I have a c-section in a couple weeks, so I can sympathize. Surgery is no fun for any of the family. My hubby had surgery in August & my 2-1/2 yr old had surgery in April (then went under anesthesia again just this month). We’re just about sick of the hospital lol. I’m glad we don’t have any plane travel plans though.
I am in Boise-let me take you to my fave Walgreens-we’ll get the coupon deals and see if it makes you feel better-hee hee-enjoy the rest of your holiday!!
Which Walgreens is your fave? My two favorites are 5M and Overland & Orchard and Overland they both always take good care of me!
The one on Federal Way is pretty good, too. A little out of the way for most people, but it’s worth it.
Welcome to Boise! I hope you enjoy watching the snow fall – even though, it doesn’t stick. 🙂 As for your baggage, it is never fun to have them arrive to your destination before you do. Hopefully, your rest of the stay in Boise is uneventful. Keeping all my cross-ables crossed for you!
You poor thing. I’m sure most moms can totally relate! My first trip to see family with my now 4 year old was when she was almost a year. She threw up before the wheels were off the tarmac, then proceeded to soil ALL the diapers we had in our carry on. She met her grandparents at the airport wearing a t-shirt for a diaper and that’s about it. I smelled LOVELY, let me tell you. (oh, and we didn’t get our luggage for another 24 hours.)
Hang in there. You obviously have the sense of humor needed to get through stuff like this!!
LOL your picture is too funny!! Such a happy face you’re wearing 😉 Sorry the trip had to turn out like that!
I love your picture. We can all relate to the feeling and the look. 🙂 There is no doubt about your dedication to your readers…to be so concerned about a small mistake in your posting while traveling with 3 kids and a recouperating husband, plane delays, no luggage and so on, is sheer dedication. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving and try to sneak away for a few minutes of “you” time. You deserve it.
I have traveled with my two kids since they were babies. Just me. We went to Oregon (home for me) Aug 2009. While at the Atlanta airport we were all ready to get on the tram and my 9 year old daughter made it on but NOT MY SON AND I. Scared me to death! We got on the next one and she was there waiting. I am always teaching them what to do in case… I’m glad it is paying off! Have fun in Boise!!
Here are a few tips for you that might help the next time: Do NOT drink caffinated beverages; instead, drink lots of water. H2O rehydrates you and coffee does the opposite. Unless I am out of the loop, you can’t carry toothpaste in your carry-on (can someone confirm or deny this so we don’t lose our free toothpaste at the security point) and you can often get a complimentary toothpaste from most motel/hotels if you ask at the desk. Carry an extra shirt, pair of socks, and panties (if you wear them) just in case you are stuck somewhere. My #1 tip: put a washcloth in a ziploc bag; it feels great just to wash your face with hot (or cold) water after a stressful period. It will wake you up and make you feel fresh! Put it back in the baggie and it is ready for wiping off messy hands and faces, too.
LOL @ “if you wear them” 🙂
I think you can have toothpaste provided its within the volume restriction and packed in the separate pint zip top bag.
I love your suggestion of a washcloth.. so true, in fact in first class on most planes you get these as a “perk”. You could just ask the attendant to bring you a cup of hot water (for tea whatever) and do it yourself.
Oh, you poor thing……Better luck on your trip home.
Hey Albertsons has 5 day twice the value coupons, and Wal-mart takes them…Have a wonderful time in Boise, Idaho is Awesome…I’m in meridian
awwww traveling fun!!!
Have a Happy Thanksgiving! Enjoy your trip!
Welcome back home to Boise Collin, have a great Thanksgiving and take the day off please. It will be a cod one here in Idaho Falls, ID for Thanksgiving, only 19 degrees! It looks more like Christmas than Thanksgiving with all the snow we had yesterday! Way to go BRONCO’s (even if my daughter is a VANDAL) lol
update on our temp for Thanksgiving….a womping 9 degrees!
A cod one? a womping one? lol, good one mom!! but yes it will be cold here all week!!
Hey! I’m in Boise – – and I’m going double-couponing at Albertsons on Tuesday if you want to come with!! 🙂
You poor thing!!! Just think you have your family to be thankful for!!!! I know the pain of being somewhere without luggage. Our family took a cruise in Sept. and they lost my 3 yo. luggage. It seemed like a nightmare for the 1 st day but they find our luggage and everything was happy ever after.
Something to make you smile 🙂
May your stuffing be tasty
May your turkey plump,
May your potatoes and gravy
Have nary a lump.
May your yams be delicious
And your pies take the prize,
And may your Thanksgiving dinner
Stay off your thighs!haha
Happy Thanksgiving to an AWESOME lady & her family!
Wow sounds like a stressful trip so far! Hope it gets better and you can have a relaxing Thanksgiving holiday!
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family!
LOL!! so cute how you can laugh at all your troubles! 🙂 Have a wonderful visit with your family in Boise- You deserve a break Colin- you are like superwoman!
sounds like my trip when i visited family in NY (stationed in Charleston) will never fly Delta again! just visited them again this past weekend went with US Air ways and it was a hell of a lot smoother trip! always having to travel to see family stinks! be safe!
You poor thing! Air travel can be disastrous sometimes but I hope the family time in Idaho is well worth the chaos to get there! I’ll be praying that the trip home is much more uneventful! (And that there’s a Starbucks every step of the way…just in case!) 😉
The picture above it HILARIOUS! 🙂 Wondering where you are from exactly and where you live now. I am from a little town outside of Boise and live in Brentwood, TN currently. 🙂
Thank you for a great website and all your hard work!
Woohoo sooo funny. I work at the airport for a major airline and I can give you another tip….do not check your luggage, if at all possible carry it on. You never know when or if your actually gonna get on that flight. The toothpaste deal…I do believe it is ok to carry on but who carries a full tube anyway unless your staying for a month. Were all airlines delayed? should have asked for a different carrier. They do accomadate sometimes if your nice.
Welcome to Boise! Hope your trip goes a lot better. I love it here, just not the weather on Wed…..hopefully you packed your parka!! Enjoy Idaho!!
