If you enjoy writing and would like to get paid for your writing talents, then you’ll definitely want to check out this email below that I received from reader, Laura…

I’m a stay at home mom and wife and like many of your readers needed a way to supplement our household’s income. A little over a year ago, I came across demandstudios.com and they have been a HUGE blessing to our family. It’s an associated content website that pays those who get approved to write for them $15 per article they write. It takes an average of 30 minutes to an hour to write an article and they pay twice a week via Paypal. I have nothing but good things to say about them- there are ALWAYS a plethora of titles to choose to write on, they are ALWAYS on time with their payments, and I can pick my own hours. In addition to all of this, they are always hiring. So if you have time, take a look at their site and maybe let your readers know.

Are you interested? If so, here is some information about Demand Studios…

* Demand Media Studios is responsible for producing made-for-the-internet text articles and videos for Demand Media’s network of websites and other premium publishers; articles are featured on leading online destinations including LIVESTRONG.COM, eHow.com, USAToday.com and Trails.com. Demand Media Studios has many different formats including: “How to,” “Fact Sheets,” “List” and “Tips.”

* Demand Studios offers paid opportunities for qualified freelancers to contribute to every part of their content creation process; from helping to create their titles to copyediting finished articles, they are constantly looking to add fresh talent to their growing team.

* If you are interested in applying to be a writer for Demand Studios, you will need to complete the application found here (please note that you will be required to submit a writing sample of at least 300 words that represents your ability to write concisely on a specific topic AND you will be required to submit a resume). After you submit your application, you will receive an immediate confirmation on the site that they have received your application. Keep in mind that processing times can take as little as a few hours or can take up to a week. Once your application has been reviewed, you will receive an email that will tell you whether or not you’ve been accepted. If accepted, you can log in and start browsing through the work available to you.

* The payment that you receive depends on the type of work you complete. The pay range for each article varies depending on the nature of the work, word count and the publishing site. To get paid, your article must go through the copyediting process and be accepted; you will be paid within one week of acceptance of your article. Demand Media Studios pays twice a week, on Tuesdays and Fridays.

* Head on over here to see all the Frequently Asked Questions.

**You must be a citizen of the United States, UK or Canada to apply. You must be at least 18 years old to freelance with Demand Media Studios.

Ha ha this is funny but true. I can vouch for this for I am too a contractor for demandstudios, and have been for over a year. If you can’t write like me and I was accepted for a short period of time, you can always do other things. You can make a decent amount as well as a title reviewer, TA, Title Proofer. One Titler claims that she can earn $30/hour! I timed myself at one point and got up to $26/hour. You do have a quota now within your department, but achievable. Good luck.

Hi… I’d like this job, I am a mom too and, sometimes I am worry because de money is not enough.. Could you please telling me some tips to get this job?? Thanks a lot.

      • autum

Lizeth-I would suggest you go to eHow and read more on how to get in. There’s a few steps to getting in. Remember you only have one chance I think for each position you apply for.

  2. Sarah

I have been doing this for months now and LOVE it! I am a new mommy so I sacrifice my nap time and write like mad when baby is sleeping. I am a substitute teacher and tutor, so this is a nice extra money maker. If I work on these articles when I get a chance I have been able to make between $500- $1,000 a month. The frequent payments are great!! I will warn you that I know people who have great resumes and have been turned down due to high interest so they can be very picky. I was automatically accepted a year ago due to my previous work at eHow. It is worth a try because it is so convenient, EASY, and can be a huge money maker (even full-time job for those who have the time).

      • Sarah

You must have a resume and writing sample ready to submit for the application. They are picky and it does require having good writing skills. Having a background in writing helps.

  3. Jenny

Thanks for sharing this information. I’ve been wanting to apply with them for a long time but was very hesitant. I finally broke down and applied and now it’s in God’s hands!

  4. jennifer

i am trying to share this with a friend using ur link and when it askes me to do the verification i enter the 4 letters/numbers and nothing happens. i entered it all correctly is there something wrong with the link? thanks this will be a great benefit to my friend. i wish i had time and or could type

  5. Christy G.

I applied too, so we’ll see what happens. This could be a fun work-from-home position! Also quite profitable from the sounds of it. 🙂

  6. Renee

I’d love to hear from those of you who actually work for Demand – how do you get the good assignments? I signed up with them months ago and since I’m not a mechanic or engineer, there has not been a single assignment that I could possibly complete. I’m a professional writer, but I don’t think I can write about how to unclog a manifold from a 87 Corolla. 😉 Any tips? Thanks!

    • Sarah

I usually find the best titles around 3:00PM (central time) or 3:00 AM (I am usually up then with my baby, but there are many available then). It’s all about getting good titles!

    • Jeri

I have been writing for them since 2009 and typically write gardening or craft articles. I have an MBA so recently I was accepted to write business related articles (which pay 17.50 per article). If you have a medical background (nursing, fitness) you can apply to write for their Livestrong division which pays 25.00 per article. As of this morning there are nearly 250,000 different articles available to write so you should have no trouble finding something. When I search for titles, I usually do it in blocks and try to find several with similar titles so I only have to do the research once. There are numerous filters for types of categories so I will filter on crafts and only search through those or choose gardening and only search through those. I work full time and only write as part of my Dave Ramsey plan to pay off credit cards but there are literally thousands of Demand Studio writers that work full time writing for Demand and make $30k or more a year.

  7. Lisa

Please be aware: I am a member of demand myself and I can tell you from personal experience that it is certainly NOT “easy money”. You have to be a great writer and they are very particular about what they will publish. They screen EVERYTHING you write to determine whether or not it is worthy of being published. They will reject anything they feel is not worthy. If you are very good at it there is indeed a potential to make great money. If you are looking for an easy way to make quick cash then this may not be for you. I am not in any way trying to discourage anyone from trying to do this. It is a great money earning experience and a great way to share your knowledge but it is not for everyone. Good luck!

  8. Chrissy

This is cool – perhaps will help me keep my resolution of writing more!!! Thank Collin!

  9. marissa

I currently do some writing assignments for ConstantContent.com. Would this be appropriate to mention on my resume, or would they consider it a conflict of interest? Of course I would never cross-submit articles, but I’m wondering if anyone knows if doing work for more than one website is considered equitable.

    • laura

hi- I’m the Laura that sent this to Colin. Marissa, it would not be a conflict of interest. In fact, many DS writers are members of other associated content sites and send their rejected DS articles to other sites that they are members of for publication. Renee, I usually get good assignments by doing a keyword search for things i’m interested in such as cheap travel and things associated with raising children/babies. This makes it easier to find good titles quickly.

      • marissa

Thanks! I’m going to apply tonight.

        • Christy M

Marissa, With Constant content – you submit your article against other articles and they select one that the publisher likes the best? So, how often do you submit an article and how often does it get chosen?

          Thanks!

          • marissa

            Sorry I’m late seeing this.
Every article I’ve written for Constant Content has eventually been chosen. About half the time it’s been by the publisher I originally submitted it to. The other times, my articles have gone into a “pool” that other publishers can look through and purchase from. Constant Content is great, the only issue is that there aren’t always very many titles available that fit in with my areas of expertise. I just now got the email that I was accepted to join Demand, so I’m hoping to find more opportunities with them.

            • Christy M

Thanks! I got accepted by Demand Media the other day as well 🙂 I am trying to decide how much time I will have to write (I teach part-time) and I have little kids.

Good luck with writing for Demand Media and thanks for sharing your information!

      • Michelle

Thanks Laura & Collin! I was accepted and have already written two articles!

  10. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

This is great! I’m hoping to make the transition from a full-time office job to part-time freelance later on this year. I just sent in my application.

  11. Jennifer

This sounds like a good opportunity. I did some work for Associated Content early last year but they paid so little for articles that it wasn’t worth my time. Just need to put together a resume and send them one of my writing samples. Who knows? Could be some nice extra fun money. Thanks!

  12. autum

I used to do a lot more writing for Associated Content. Though they pay very little. I like that you can write whatever your heart desires even if you’re not a great writer. I wrote several articles for eHow, and then a lot of the writers were transferred over to DS, and that was how I got accepted to writing for DS, but I miss writing for eHow directly because the rules were easy and you can self publish your work.

I would say apply for as many open positions as possible and do the best you can in getting as much articles published as possible once you’re in. Published articles still earn you royalty even when you’re no longer a DS writer.

  13. kbmum

I’ve been doing freelance public relations since my twins were born, but business dried up when the economy tanked. This would be a good way to keep up my writing skills and make a little money.

  14. Apryl Broome

Thanks for the idea. Love to write- will keep my skills up. Applied just a little while ago. Will see what happens.

  15. AlexO

I have been writing for demandstudios for a few months now, and I absolutely love it! Being a graduate student, writing a thesis and responsible for other things, a full-time job does not work for me but this opportunity has been nothing but great. I got turned down a few years ago, but got accepted this time. (I was a journalism major and had basic writing experience.) I’m actually considering using some of these articles as future clips when looking for a job. You choose what to want to write about more or less since there are 1000’s of titles available. The editors are very helpful in structuring your articles the right way and making sure they meet the guidelines. Sure, some articles get rejected, but once you get the hang of it, you’ll be able to finish articles quickly and without necessary rewrites. You write how much you want, just make sure to meet the deadlines for rewrites or for claimed (chosen) articles. I highly recommend this job as a real, work from home writing gig. Good luck!

  16. Rachea

Yeah, I work for them too. You need to know AP Style.

    • Kelley R.

Could you tell me what AP Style is, please? Thank you for your help.

      • kbmum

AP Style is the Associate Press’ rules for news writing. It’s the standard for many news organizations. There’s a manual called The Associated Press Stylebook that has guidelines for spelling, grammar, punctuation, correct names for countries, and much more. If you’re interested in writing for Demand Media or any other similar company, you need to be acquainted with this style.

        • Kelley R.

Thanks, kbmum. That was just the information I needed.

  17. Dylsmom101

I applied to write for DS right after Thanksgiving and was turned down. I then applied to Suite101 and was accepted. I’m not as motivated to write for them because I will only be paid royalties and not for each article. Oh well, lol.

  18. Christy M

I just applied, and here’s to hoping that my application is accepted. I am glad that this was posted today, as just last night I was researching for freelance writing positions.

    • Christy M

Yay, so glad again about this opportunity! I was accepted this afternoon.

This has to be my favorite posting that you have posted on Hip2Save! Thank you for posting this; this could be a major answer to prayers in paying off my masters!

      • marissa

Congrats! I’m so excited to have found out today that I was accepted too!!

  19. Lindsey

Thanks for posting this! i hope I get in. I’m currently looking for a job and I really need the money to help pay my bills.

  20. anon

curious about the resume thing..what are they looking for ? lol Is being a housewife with good writing skills enough? Or is this for experienced only basically. I do not have the resume background to back up this type of opportunity. Sounds really interesting though.

    • Jeri

No you really need to have a writing resume with clips/links of published works. When I first started, I signed on to Associated Content and Helium, wrote two articles for each then used those as my experience to get in to Demand Studios. You may also try Textbroker if you have no previous experience. The pay is really low but they accept pretty much everybody.

    • marissa

I just found out I was accepted, and I didn’t have a lot of experience. I’ve had work published before through Constant Content, but the way they work is that you sell complete rights to your work, so my published articles were printed with someone else’s byline…kind of like a ghostwriter. Of course, I couldn’t find those articles online and link to them as “my” published work. So, I took my own copy of the best article I wrote, made some tweaks and changes to it, and submitted it as an unpublished sample with a note that a version of it had been published under a different name since I submitted it on Constant Content. In my resume I listed my experience with CC, and my experience writing for and editing my college newspaper. Besides those few things, I’m also just a housewife, so I wasn’t sure I’d be accepted, but I was.

  21. autum

Also O’Desk is another feelance site. It is legit and you have to compete or put in bids for work. I have not done the work but you’re able to see others’ history. You take an easy test before you’re accepted. And if you’re into graphics design you can try 99designs. You can design logos and enter contests to win cash prizes from businesses that seek new logos.

  22. Malinda

This must be my lucky day… everybody deserves one! I got my first PineCone survey and I got an acceptance email from Demand Media. I wish others good luck!

  23. RH

How long ago did you apply at Demand Media? Just curious, I applied and am curious.

  24. Brandolyn Borgstadt

I applied yesterday and I was approved last night!! Hooray!! Thanks for posting this! I’m excited to do my first article! =)

  25. Jennifer Jackson

Thank you for all the information sharing! I have an English Degree and have not really done much with it, but have always known that writing is what I am meant to do. This should be a perfect way to get started!

  26. kbmum

I applied yesterday and was approved this morning. I’m so happy! Now the work begins…

  27. Emilie

I applied yesterday and was approved!
    We’ll see how it goes.
    Thanks!

  28. Heather

I was just approved for DemandStudios and have spent the past 45 minutes trying to find a title about which I could write — anyone have suggestions for keywords? Do people usually choose any title then research to write the article?

  29. Marisa

Thank you so much for posting this!! I applied yesterday and was approved today!! 🙂

  30. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Applied yesterday and just got my approval email! So Excited!!!!

  31. Debra Hargersilver

THANK YOU VERY MUCH! First, to Collin for posting this; second to my dear friend, Debra, who forwarded this link to me in an email. I have also applied for several positions. I hope that this will prove lucrative for me as the pay I have been getting for my editing, copywriting and PowerPoint Presentation developing has been very low. Right now, we could use another income stream just to make ends meet around here, so am looking forward to being accepted into the ranks of the freelancers who are employed through Demand Studios. Thank you again!

  32. Anh

I applied and was rejected by DS which makes me sad because I have a writing background and was an English major. However, thanks to the helpful suggestions/tips on this wonderful blog, I am now writing for other similar sites. Good luck to all!

    • kbmum

Don’t feel bad about not getting accepted. I was accepted last week and went to the site today to pick out my first assignment. The types of articles they want are so technical, I wasn’t able to find one that I could write (at least, not without a week’s worth of research). If someone is a writer who also know auto mechanics, for instance, then that person could do really well.

I had high hopes for this work, but now I’m just very disappointed.

      • Anh

Thanks for your reply. I did feel bad at first but now I write for AC and other sites and I can write about any subject under the sun. You should try Associated Content and eHow. Good luck.

  33. Kari

I applied on Jan. 7 but haven’t heard back yet. I did accidentally use an invalid email address ((kicking myself)) but tried to correct it.

Anyone else waiting a long time to hear back from them?

    • Christy M

I found out via email – so perhaps that is why you hadn’t heard anything. Maybe re-submit your application with corrected email?

      Good luck!

    • Kari

Turns out I did get accepted. Probably took a little longer than usual due to my email glitch.

At first I couldn’t find a single thing to write about (without doing tons of research), but I found that at certain times of day (may be different from day to day), new Titles are pouring into the Find Assignment section. I would click Refresh and try to snag an “easy” title. Also took a look at 3 a.m. and did the same thing; got some decent titles that way.

My experience so far is that it certainly helps to be a good writer — that is, good spelling, proper usage and mechanics, and a knack for words. However, so far my copy editor has been quite particular about everything fitting into the proper format and following demandstudios rules. Not that I’m complaining, by any means, but so far this has not been a quick or easy endeavor for me. It is hard to know when the CE is going to want less detail or more detail. I expect everything will get easier after awhile, and it sure is nice to have a way to make a little extra money.

  34. nicole

Thank you SO much for this article! I applied the day you posted this and I was accepted the next day. Some people mentioned that finding an article that is not technical in natural is impossible to find, well there are definitely tricks to finding good articles. Going into the writers forums will help new writers figure out how to best navigate the search tools. I have been at it for 5 days and have so far written 10 articles on topics such as hotels, costume making and crafts, it is a lot of fun and easy!

  35. Amanda

Thanks for all the comments you all made about this. I saw this when it was first posted but was skeptical about it. Sounds like it is definitely worth-while though! I am a former school counselor and have written a curriculm book that was published in 2009. I am now a stay-at-home mom, and we can always use a little extra monthly income since my husband works a mainly commision job. I plan on applying soon and hope it will work out well! Thanks again for all your positive comments about this opportunity!

  36. Megan

I don’t think you realize what a life-changing post this job opportunity was for me. I had to come back to find it to personally thank you Hip2Save and reader Laura for posting this! I have been on unemployment for such a long time…I am about to run out! I didn’t know what I was going to do…then I saw this post about not only a job, but one I could do from home, anywhere! Being an Army wife and mother of 3 it’s hard to find something portable to take w/ us from one duty station to another. We are going to PCS this summer and the unemployment rate where we are headed is even higher than where we are right now. Anyways, I was a bit skeptical but applied and got the job writing. I have written my 3 preliminary articles and have been approved! I am so excited not only to be working again but to have something I believe I can do no matter where we head. Even better, that I can do it from home and not have to shell out money for daycare. Thank you so much!!! From the bottom of my heart I truly feel that you saved us from financial ruin with this single post!

  37. Kari

Just thought I would post another update for people who are DS writers or who might want to be.

My assessment continues to be that DS can be a good way to make some money. It helps to expect that some copy editors will be a bear to work with (others will be top notch). Already, one of my articles had a typo/error inserted by a CE, so there it stands out there at eHow. I guess that’s what pseudonyms are for — to protect the author from embarrassment. I requested for a correction to be made, but it has been about a week and nothing has happened.

I found some terrific tips at the forums here: http://www.demandstudiossucks.com . (Sorry for the language; it appears that lots of freelance writers are fond of profanity.)

Number one tip, for me, is to not spend too much time on one article, either initially or for a re-write. Snagging “easy” titles is key, and so far I’ve had the best luck in the middle of the night.

Most articles for beginning writers, writing for eHow, pay $15. This is considered good pay for online freelance work, according to the research I’ve done.
