If you are new to Hip2Save, you may be asking yourself “What the heck are Swagbucks”?!

Swagbucks are a virtual currency that you earn on Swagbucks.com by doing the things you do every day – searching the web, shopping at your favorite retailers, and by engaging in other activities such as phone recycling, submitting polls, and completing special offers.

How do I earn Swagbucks?

* Searching the web
If yours is a winning search, you will see a congratulations screen featuring your Swag Bucks award immediately above your search results; you will never be directed away from your search. You can win multiple Swag Bucks every day; Swag Bucks can be won in denominations ranging from 1 – 1,000.

* Taking Surveys
Each survey that you chose to engage with may have a different Swag Bucks payout. Completing “deeper profiles” helps Swag Bucks alert you only to surveys for which you qualify and typically enables you to complete more targeted surveys which have significantly higher Swag Bucks payouts. Snag 1 Swag Buck per day just for heading over to the Survey page!

* Shopping at the Shop & Earn Mall
Select one of the partnering online retailers and earn 2 Swag Buck for every dollar you spend.

* Voting in Daily Polls
Snag 1 Swag Buck per day for voting in the daily poll.

* Sending in prize photos and videos
Send a photo of yourself and your Swag Store prize to prizephoto@swagbucks.com and 10 Swag Bucks will be credited to your account within approximately 7 to 14 business days (you must be in the photo with your prize to earn Swag Bucks). You can also film a video of yourself unboxing your prize from its shipping material and then upload your video to http://www.youtube.com and send the url link of your video to prizephoto@swagbucks.com and you’ll snag 20 Swag Bucks!

* Watching videos
Swag Bucks are awarded randomly via Swag Bucks TV. Not every video you watch will earn you Swag Bucks, but just like Swag Bucks search, every video you watch is a chance to earn.

* Inviting your friends to join
Invite your friends to Swagbucks.com and every Swag Buck they win searching the web, you’ll win as well. Win up to 1,000 Swag Bucks per referral!

* Completing Special Offers
To ensure that an offer has been completed, follow the instructions provided for each individual offer. The offer needs be completed in the same session and all information required to complete the offer MUST be accurate. The majority of offers will credit your Swag Bucks account within 20 minutes. However, the estimated wait time varies from offer to offer. Some may take a few hours or a couple of days before final confirmation is received.

* Finding Swag Codes
Swag Codes are strings of alphanumeric text that you can apply for instant Swag Bucks. Swag Codes can appear anywhere, and at any time, throughout the Swag Bucks network including the Swagbucks newsletter, any Swag Bucks powered Search&Win Site; the Official Swag Bucks blog, Facebook Fan Page, Twitter page, Flickr page; and affiliated partner sites. Swag Codes can be redeemed by entering the codes into the Swag Codes box on your My Account page.

* Trading in Cell Phones and Video Games
You can earn Swag Bucks for each phone you trade-in up to 3,000 Swag Bucks per phone; there is no limit to how many phones you can recycle.

* Print Coupons
You will earn 10 Swag Bucks for every coupon that you print from Swagbucks.com and use in the store. It can take anywhere from 8-12 weeks for the Swag Bucks to show up in your account.

* Share Your Birthday
Be sure that you enter your birthday in the account details and you’ll snag 50 Swag Bucks on the big day!

What can I use my Swag Bucks to purchase?

Swag Bucks can be used to purchase clothing, items for the kitchen, electronics, gift cards and more in the Swag Store! My personal favorite item is a $5 Amazon e-Card for 450 Swag Bucks!

    Swag Bucks TV has changed recently – now instead of randomly winning SB for the videos, you have to watch the videos for a certain length of time, a meter shows you how close you are getting to earning the SB. But its still an easy 5 SB. Most days I earn SB on my 2nd search of the day, no matter what I search for.

  • Sara says:

    Has anyone earned any bucks for using coupons yet? I know they are a newer feature so maybe it hasn’t been long enough yet.

    • KathyT527 says:

      I was just going to ask a questions on these…the coupon site on Swagbucks doesn’t look any differently then coupons.com? How do they tell where you printed them from when you redeem them?

    • Anonymous says:

      I think they just started the coupons in late Nov. or early Dec. It can take up to 3 months to receive your swagbucks. I used some coupons in Dec. and haven’t received any coupon swagbucks yet so we’ll see I guess, it could be march before I get them.

    • Stephanie says:

      I printed coupons through mypoints and the points did eventually show up, so there is something on the coupon for them to know where it was printed from. I’m still waiting on my swagbucks for coupons I used.

    • Melissa says:

      I just had 3 of mine credit today and I’m assuming they’re the ones I used way back in November. I’ve also been printing the ones for diapers and formula and leaving them in the baby section. Not 100% how honest that is since I’m not technically using them but still getting the points. I know when my baby was using formula I was always VERY thankful when someone would leave those :)

  • DrLadybug says:

    I really need good reasons to re-join Swagbucks. When I joined last June, the sites completely bogged down my computer (brand new Mac desktop), ran pop-ups everywhere (even with the blocker on), AND they spammed me like crazy: I know this for a fact because I misspelled my name, and that misspelling appeared in the spams! When I went to cancel, they asked for my mailing address, which I NEVER had to provide to sign up in the first place. Could any long-time members give me a better impression to rejoin? I had such a negative experience with all these things because of Swagbucks.

    • Tilla Ham says:

      my husband will not allow me to join for this reason, he is runs the IT department as his job, and he checked swagbucks out and said it puts seriously major spyware onto your computer and will cause problems.

    • chris says:

      I had problems after downloading the toolbar also. It also seemed like every time I went to take a ‘trusted survey’ they wanted me to install something on my computer. The worst part is, I was browsing the homepage & looking at the special offers. I noticed the gwallet ad and when I clicked on it, it said to put in your age to watch an age appropriate video to earn swagbucks. Well, I put in my sons age (11) just to see what would come up. I was expecting a video game ad or age appropriate movie trailer- it was the Axe detailer commercial! I was shocked, I don’t think that was age appropriate for an eleven year old & luckily he wasn’t even with the room with me. This really bothered me & I haven’t visited swagbucks since. This was a couple of months ago, so I don’t know if they have made any changes to that or not. I don’t know if you’ve heard of Mypoints or not, but I would recommend that. Its easy to accumulate points, all you have to do is read an e-mail or visit a website. You can print your coupons through them also to earn points. Just thought I would share my experience…..

    • Jason says:

      Never had any issue joining Swag a few years ago, i also had a brand new Mac desktop when i signed up and never had any issues or pop ups or spam. Maybe something else on the computer was causing it but Swagbucks has been awesome for me, ive cashed in enough for $5bucks amazon gift cards to buy all the xmas gifts for this year. So maybe check all your settings and give it another shot. Swagbucks doesnt pass your email out so you should be ok, my IT friends are all on there and assured me that you shouldnt have a problem, there must have been an issue in the mac somewhere that caught it and sent it along for you to get spam.

  • Vonda Flue says:

    has anyone had any problems with SB? I got a virus and was wondering if it came from them or the partner sites they connect you with??? I do very little searching on internet and do not open spam mail. So I’m giving them a thought. Maybe not, but just wanted to ask!

    • fran says:

      Vonda, from what I heard, you should never download anything from the Special Offers walls. A lot of newbies download stuff and then they have problems with their computers. It’s not worth the little bit they pay you, to infect your computer!

    • Sara says:

      I had downloaded the toolbar and discovered that it is spyware, so took it off right away. I am also careful about what I click on through them, never download anything. Just searching through their website I don’t think should be harmful.

      • Paulette says:

        I have had the swagbucks toolbar for a while and have not had a problem with it. How do you know it is spyware?? My internet security hasn’t caught any problems either. However I never download anything else from swagbucks either!! I have started surveys that want me to download plug-ins etc. and I always quit right there!!

  • Kim says:

    can someone help me? Before the shop and earn appeared for me on the swagbucks homepage but now I can’t seem to find it. I have looked everywhere but can’t find it. Thanks for any help!

  • megan says:

    I have never had any problems with Swagbucks and it is a great and easy way to earn free stuff just by searching the web! If anyone is wanting to join I will send you a referral if you are interested. It is really fun and easy and like I said you can earn all kinds of FREE stuff!!!

  • julieanne28 says:

    I have earned quite a few swagbucks just from normal searching, daily polls, and videos. I have never had a virus or any other problem, however, I have never downloaded anything from swagbucks partners either. I did download the toolbar but again no problems from it.

  • DP says:

    I don’t think we should use this as a means to solicit referrals. Of course, we would ALL like people to sign up under us, but I don’t think it is appropriate, IMO.

    • Annie says:

      I agree!

    • Lindsey says:

      What do you think Colin is doing?!? LOL! There is nothing wrong with helping each other out. I’m sure by now, Colin has 100’s of people who have signed up under her.

      • DP says:

        That is different. Collin has provided us this blog. She deserves it. She may even consider it a perk of her job. Unsolicited referral links from readers, however are a very different thing. I have one – I don’t post it here.

  • Sarah says:

    New to SB’s…Here’s my referal link, I would love any referals I can get…

    And, they’ll start you out with bonus swagbucks just for signing up!

  • Melissa says:

    I have been a SBer for only a few months but have gotten $15 of Amazon gift cards for free. I have the search page as my Home screen on both mine and my kids computers. I also usually take 60 seconds each morning to answer their poll and click on the survey page… I don’t recommend the surveys necessarily but just by clicking on the link you get a SB. The other way I have earned a number of SB is that if you go through them to get any Daily Deals (i.e. GroupOn, etc) you get a ton of SBs for that… I have not had any computer issues but I also only do the limited things I listed above and do not have the tool bar… I love the free Amazon $!

  • crystal says:

    I need referals too please

    http://www.swagbucks.com/refer/cina9714

    got 2 kids bdays coming up i know i can get some stuff on amazon :) thanks!

  • Lynne says:

    I love SB’s! However, I’m leary of this new game feature. I played one w/ no problem. The next one froze up, of course after taking 10 SB’s outta my account. I am not finding the ‘free’ games Collin mentions. They all have a SB pay to play cost, from 3-10 or more SB’s per game. Anybody direct me to the free games?

    • megan says:

      When you click on the games link and choose what game you want to play hit play and then it will come up and you can either spend SB to play or else there is a thing to click that says play free games.

  • Collay says:

    I would also love to have referrals as well:

    Thank you!

    I joined January 1, 2011 and already have 311 swagbucks. I do have the tool bar and i haven’t had any problems. Iove it I wish I would of joined sooner!!!!!

  • Sonia says:

    I joined Swagbucks back in January 2010 – I installed the toolbar, and have really never had a problem with it. However, I did set up a separate email address just for Swagbucks that I can track to see what kind of spam I get from it. One thing I noticed – if you use it for search and win, and for codes, you will be fine. Some of the special offers WILL give you spyware, virus, massive spam, etc… so now I avoid all of those. If you join the Facebook page for Swagbucks, a lot of fans will post in discussions which special offers are good and which to avoid. But just using Swagbucks for normal searches has never given me a problem.

    Since January 2010, I’ve made an average of $25 per month in Amazon gift cards – not bad for just searching and watching for special codes. And I don’t have a single referral, either. And, in June, I entered the $2500 Amazon Gift Card sweepstakes – and I actually WON! Yep, I won a $2500 Amazon gift card :) I was so excited when I won it wasn’t funny – and believe me that huge credit came in handy after I lost my job this summer and money was tight! It paid for all my daughter’s birthday and Christmas gifts :) Note – they are going to 1099 me on that $2500 so it’s not exactly free – I have to pay taxes – but I’m okay with that!

  • I could use a referral too –

  • Smitha says:

    What I learned to avoid spams:
    1) If you are a Mozilla Firefox user, you can download an add on named – No Script. This addon disables most of the scripts running in your page. You can allow scripts from trusted sites. It seems hard at first, but once you get the knack of it, its easy and its a good way to avoid spam too..
    2) Don’t download anything unless you are sure its totally trustworthy.
    3) Go the survey page and build up a profile. Its time consuming, believe me. But once you do that, you qualify for surveys. For each survey, they tell you the probability of your being entered into the surveys. From my experience, I qualify only if the chance is more than 65%.

    I saw people posting referral links. If someone would be kind enough to sign up under me, here’s my referral link : http://www.swagbucks.com/refer/SeriousSmith

  • Melissa says:

    Just jumped on both sites to search and got 9 from Swagbucks and 30 from iRazoo :)

    I also have had the swagbucks toolbar for as long as I’ve been a member with no problems but I do get 1 swagbuck a day just for having it.

    I cannot say enough good things about this site. I’ve gotten lots of family members and friends into it as well.

  • Allison says:

    I use SwagBucks, and it’s great! I have racked up quite a few $5 Amazon gift cards over the year and bought some Christmas presents with them. To rack up points quickly, you should do the surveys, find free special offers that don’t require you to download anything, search 2-3 times a day, watch for codes by checking their facebook page, and do the dailies (NOSO, Daily Poll, Visit the Survey Page, Toolbar).
    About the Toolbar, I used to have it and it was a great way to give me extra Swag Bucks, but I know someone who is really experienced with computers and he recommended against it. So now I’ve deleted it, as I’d much rather have a safe and functioning computer.

    http://www.swagbucks.com/refer/Alyston

    ^ If you have not yet signed up for Swag Bucks, please please please sign up under my name! I have no referrals. :( Oh, and if you get referrals yourself, you can make extra SBs too!
    Thanks!

  • Lindsey says:

    I’ve been a member for a year, and I’ve earned $140 in Amazon gift cards just by doing searches and earrning the 3 free swagbucks each day. I LOVE swagbucks! I don’t play their games, use their toolbar or anything else. I’ve NEVER been spammed or had any other problems. I’d really appreciate it if you would sign up under me: http://www.swagbucks.com/refer/CuteLindsey86

    I’m in debt due to college and the Amazon gift cards really help me buy birthday presents for my family.

  • Laura says:

    I am just figuring it out. I am now making $10 a week in $5 Amazon cards.

    The very first thing I do is the daily poll 1 swag
    then I do the nos…1 swag
    then I click on the survey 1 swag

    If there is a survey I do them and earn swags from that

    Every morning, afternoon, and night I do a search and earn about 30 swag bucks.

    The best thing I have done is let my computer just watch swag tv while I make dinner, eat breakfast, etc… I earn most of my extra swag bucks from that. I am typically earning 100 swag bucks a day now.

  • Marilyn says:

    If anyone is interested in signing up I would appreciate the referal!
    http://www.swagbucks.com/refer/carrottop3215

    I use swagbucks everyday about 5 minutes a day, in about a year I have earned about $75 worth of amazon gift cards. SEVENTY FIVE DOLLARS,CRAZY RIGHT?!?!?

    I search a couple times a day as well as check my surveys (get a free buck), and I do the daily poll (free buck)!

    Anytime your interested in the day groupon of living social deals, buy them throught swagbucks and earn 280 bucks (halfway to a $5 gift card)

    Hope the tips help!!

    I LOVE SWAGBUCKS!!!! <3

  • Lisa says:

    I love swagbucks. By just using it as a search engine you can easily win swagbucks 2-3 times a day. Like someone else mentioned, if you purchase things from Groupon or other similar sites it is easy to get bucks from that as well. I’d highly recommend it as long as you don’t download anything from the special offers. There are plenty of special offers and videos to make extra swagbucks without having to do any questionable downloads. Good luck to any that are starting out. Just like everyone else, I’d love to have my first referral! Feel free to sign up to swagbucks through the link below. Happy swagging!

  • Becca says:

    GREAT Site!! I LOVE swagbucks, I have been w/ swagbucks for over a year now and have not had one virus or spyware problem! I have earned so many giftcards it’s great!!

  • Tricia says:

    I’ve never run into any problems with the SB Toolbar, but I only swag by searching or swagcoding, and now swagcouponing, although I haven’t seen those yet. Oh, and I do go through the site to shop online when I can.
    No problems so far (nearly 2 years), and I make about $5-$10 a month in Amazon cards, which I always tuck away in my Amazon account till Christmas.

  • Brandi says:

    I used some coupons well over a month ago and have yet to see anything. Plus, I downloaded a Big Fish game they were offering swaybucks if you bought a game. I downloaded the software and it was full of viruses. So, a lot of my friends have had good expirences but so far I haven’t.

  • Meg says:

    My experience with Swagbucks has been so-so. They have many items listed on their “special offers” page that I wouldn’t trust- many of the items from gambit, trialpay, tapjoy, etc ask you to download programs and I’m sure they are chock full of spyware/adware. I recently downloaded their toolbar too and I feel kind of iffy on it- I probably wouldn’t recommend doing it if you haven’t already.

    Tips I’ve picked up on:
    -Daily visit the survey page for 1 SB (even if you don’t want to take any of the surveys- I never seem to qualify for any of them so its kind of frustrating, you may have more luck?)
    -Daily visit NOSO (no obligation special offers) for 1 SB (just skip through it and decline each offer)
    -Daily visit and vote on the poll for 1 SB
    -Search late at night or early in the morning ( I seem to win more SB at these times and rarely during like 8-5)
    -Watch videos from special offers page of SB TV and just hit mute :) Points will be rewarded even if you are on another page
    – This website always posts SB codes (daily or sometimes multiple times per day) and seems safe and run by an individual SB follower (?): http://sc-s.com/

    I was selected as a Beta tester for the SB games (before they were available to everyone)- I tried out a variety of games and all of them were entertaining if that is your thing, but it was rare and only after spending extended periods of time playing that I was awarded any SB :(
    Though, I only ever tried playing the games for free and never selected the SB “pay to play” option. I believe it enters you into a competition and if you beat other players, you win SBs.

    Overall, I have accumulated points over time that have given me free giftcards, which is awesome, but you may want to way the risks too.

    Hope this helps! :)

  • Joelle says:

    If I was to purchase the $5 gift card for Amazon (which I have heard is a good deal), can you use multiple $5 Amazon gift cards at the same time when buying something on their website??

  • Allison says:

    Just a note: I would like to remind everyone that if you have yet to sign up, you can use the code “SBGames” on the sign up page and you will get 60 Swag Bucks added into your account! This code is valid until the end of today (January 14).

    Anyone is also welcome to “friend” me, I am happy to answer questions and guide you around this site. To do so, first sign up for Swag Bucks (http://www.swagbucks.com/refer/Alyston ) and then go to My Friends by hovering over the number next to your name on top of the page. Next, click on Find Friends. From there, click on Enter Email/Swagname (mine is Alyston). I kindly appreciate anyone who signs up under my link. :) Don’t forget to use the code “SBGames” for 60 bonus Swag Bucks. This is a limited time offer, so hurry :)

    Thank you, and happy Swaggin’
