Could you explain the Staples rewards program to me. Their site didn’t help me much. Do you have to spend a certain amount in order to get these FREE rewards? Do you purchase the items and then receive a check in the mail later for the rewards amount? I’m just not sure how it all works.

    • Casey

Don’t need to spend a certain amount to get them. You receive the money back in the form of reward certificates that are good only at Staples. They show up a month or so later online for you to print off.

    • Christa Miller

I was wondering the same thing!?!? Kind of confused by it.

    • Kim

Think of them like RiteAid +UP or CVS’ ECB’s that you would get at the end of the month. The only difference being, you can’t roll them over. If you use them on an item that gives Rewards, then your “reward” amount would be reduced.

      Hope that makes sense!

What I do is buy items that are free after Staples Rewards and then use the Staples Rewards to pay for toner for my printer ($75). I will buy the toner anyway, so might as well get free stuff on my way to saving money for the toner! So if I buy a $10 item this week, they will send me $10 Staples rewards, once I accumulate enough rewards I will use them to pay for the toner. I only have to pay for tax for these items along the way. But really, I look at it as saving for my toner! 🙂 Acutally have about $65 worth of Staples Rewards right now.

Lots of good deals at Staples this week! Does anyone know if you can use your earned rewards to purchase more Staples Rewards items?

We just used the ones we got for the batteries form before Christmas. So we bought all but one item and spent $1.50 today. Will get it all back in rewards to do again. 🙂 happy dance

Does anybody know if I can use rewards to pay for more free after rewards items and still get my rewards on everything?? LIke Walgreens using RR to pay for more RR items.

    • Crystal

If you use your rewards check to pay for items that are free after rewards, you WILL NOT get the money back in rewards. Easy rebate is different, that will come back to you even if you paid with rewards. I had to learn this the hard way.

      • Donna

Thanks for the heads up on that. I was hoping they would roll from one reward to the next.

Looks like you could use the $1 off Post-It purchase (ex. 2/9) coupon on the Post it Notes. Do you know if that reduces your Rewards back or will you still get the $11.99 back?

    • NightmareReader

It reduces your rewards, it did for me on the batteries. Don’t use coupon on rewards items unless you want to pay less out of pocket, but get less in rewards too.

      • Michelle

How about the Easy Rebates? Is that the full amount back or does that get reduced too? I just did the 40% coupon on the paper and submitted the rebate online.

        • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

It’s been awhile since I’ve done one, but just submit it online with the Easy Rebates, and I believe it gives back according to the full price paid. Either way, it’s a deal & the Easy Rebates are sooo easy. Love them!

What happen if I use 25 off 100 coupon or 10% off coupon for the Quickbook? Would that be an MM? Or, do they give you the amount of the rewards after the coupon value?

I live in NYC and only have the option of Staples. That being said, I find them to have the best deals. Bar none.
I got a new printer for $40 from $200, and it was the new HP model. I save my recycle ink cartridges for the occasional $5 special. The ink deals are awesome, you just have to be patient. Lastly, I just bought my computer from Staples. The HP was a better value than the Dell and Staples was a better value than direct from HP.
    What could be better!
    thanks for these weekly posts!

I turn my cartridges in at Staples, but I am not familiar with the $5 special … do they occasionally give $5 credit per cartridge instead of 2? If so, when do they usually do it? Thanks for the help!

    • Melanie

You may want to call the store ahead and ask if they take printable coupons. Mine does not.

  8. Katie

Does anyone know if there are any coupons for staples??? I need to buy an expensive printer and I would love to use a coupon! (I mean, who wouldn’t ?!?!?!?!? 🙂 ) THANKS in advance!!!

If you do the ink deal be sure to break your transactions out. The ad reads spend $40 or more and receive a $10 visa card. So if you buy $80 or more in one transaction you will only qualify for one $10 visa card.

I shop often at Staples for their “deals.” Their REBATES give you an actual check in the mail. Their REWARDS give you a check only redeemable at Staples. From my experience, you can use the REWARDS to purchase anything at the store – even rewards items – and still receive the full rewards back.

HOWEVER – just this weekend I ran into quite a problem. My mother had requested that I pick up a laptop bag for my dad as a gift. When my dad received it, he decided he didn’t want it. So, 18 days later, I went to return it. Problem was, although I had bought MANY items on the same receipt, they took off part of each rewards check in each item. And, because those reward checks had expired 12/31 (the receipt even notes this), they would only refund me 1/2 of what the price of the bag. My reward money was essentially “lost.” I stood there at the register forever, offering different suggestions – but to no avail.

So I guess I say all that to just warn people. Only use your reward certificates on items that you KNOW you won’t be returning (as one person metioned – for their ink/toner). Either that, or make sure you make your return before the certificate would have expired. Otherwise, your money is gone. VERY disappointing.

Has anyone tried the Bic triumph deal at their Staples? Just wondering if the price match worked with the coupons? Thanks!
