WOW! With summer around the corner and gas prices reaching $4 per-gallon nationally, CVS/pharmacy announced yesterday that they are launching a new program designed to allow you to earn FREE gas all summer!  From May 22nd – August 28th, you can earn a $10 gift card to Exxon/Mobil, Shell, BP Amoco or BP Arco every week simply by spending $30 on specially-marked items in the weekly CVS/pharmacy ad (before coupons).

All qualifying products will be tagged with a “get free gas” icon in the weekly ad (see photo above) and eligible products will rotate each week, which means that you should be able to snag a variety of qualifying items each week to go towards your free gas card!  Whenever you reach the $30 required purchase threshold (before coupons have been applied), a special coupon will print on your receipt that can be redeemed immediately in store for a $10 gas card. You can redeem one $10 gas card per week, which means you can potentially score $140 worth of FREE gas during the 14 week promotion! If you prefer to wait to redeem your coupon, you’ll have up to 30 days to do so.  Head on over here for more details.

Stay tuned for shopping scenarios in the Weekly Ad Matchups on Saturday highlighting this new “free gas” promotion! πŸ™‚

    Very excited about the possiblities!

  2. Susan

Amazing! I knew I was hanging onto that $5 ECB for a reason πŸ™‚

  3. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

    AWESOMEEEEEE!!!!!!! Love this deal!!!

  4. brandy

It says before coupons does that mean that before xbucks also. Are they considered coupons as well?

    • Juanhijo

      it would be before ecbs

  5. Juanhijo

I’m torn, because I’d rather not support these particular fuel companies because of their spill histories. wish we could pick the station:-\

    • Susan

Please keep in mind that most stations are independently and locally owned.

      • Kate

reguardless…they are still associated and do business with the corporate side. I live on the beach in Panama City and I have checked DEEPLY into the stations around here. I will not buy gas from associated stations. But…I will take free gas.

    • Andy

also please keep in mind that families working for those companies need to make a living too- thanks for the info Collin!

    • L.V.

I’m with you…I do not support Exxon or BP and prefer to keep my business local and with companies with a little more integrity!

      • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

At my CVS we get the option of either a gas card or a CVS card. Since we don’t have any of those gas stations here I went with the CVS card. I can always use $10 off at CVS.

  6. Amalia

This is a great promotion. Thanks! πŸ™‚

  7. jcc253

Yippee! A whole 2 gallons of gas. I guess every little bit helps.

    • Susan

I look at is as taking $10 off a tank. But if you don’t want yours, I would gladly take it off your hands πŸ™‚

      • Michelle

I’ll take free gas in any amount. For me, $10.00 is a quarter tank, which means at least one trip to the beach and back!

        • Tia

I’m surprised at that original comment. We’re couponers. We get happy at saving $1 off a bottle of ketchup, let alone $10 off a tank of gas. Let’s all look at the bright side of things.

          • anon

hahaha i know! i get pumped about a free travel size shampoo so this is great!

  8. Irina

Do you have to spend $30 in a single transaction or you can spend $15 today and $15 next week and still get the gift card?

    • fran

I don’t think you have to spend the whole $30 in one transaction. They will show your progress at the bottom of the receipt, and when you do reach $30, you will get the coupon at the bottom of your receipt.

    • Emily

I was wondering that, too…does your purchase history carry over from week to week throughout the promotion, or does it start over each week?

      • Kim

Mashupmom.com looked into this. It will track it for the week, but DOES NOT roll from ad week to ad week. Must be $30 within that week.

  9. AMANDA C

THIS WILL BE GREAT. HUBBY HAS BEEN GOING THROUGH CANCER TREATMENT FOR 7 1/2 MONTHS(WITH NO INCOME BTW) AND WITH HIM HAVING TO BE AT CANCER CENTER EVERYDAY….WOW. EVERY LITTLE BIT HELPS US. HOPE THIS ALL WORKS OUT…WOOHOO!

    • fran

      Amanda,
My best to you and your husband. Stay strong!

    • laura

praying for you & your family!

    • Jessica

      Hey Amanda,
If there is anything you need help with just ask.

      • Christy

I can’t even imagine what you are going through. Take care and keep the faith!

    • Tia

Stay strong, Amanda. God is good.

    • Tina in East Texas

Bless your heart, Amanda! I wish you and your family the best.

    • Jolene

I don’t know where you are from but look into milage reimbursement. Sometimes the medical insurance companies will reimburse, it’s usually a low rate but every bit helps right. I know I have a special needs little girl and the insurance company reimburses.25 cents a mile. Hope your husband does well with his treatment.

    • Ivie

      Amanda,
My heart goes out to you and your family. I will keep you and your family in my prayers.

  10. Kate

Although I live on the Gulf Coast, and do not buy gas from certain companies due to the spill that has caused my family such hard times…I can’t bring myself to pass this up. We struggle every week for my husbands gas money to work and back. I’m very excited about this promo!

    • Susan

Remember that the stations are locally owned. You are supporting your local businesses by purchasing from them.

      • Kate

Like I said in the above, the stations are still associated.

        • Renee

          we got it….

        • Christopher M Wilson

besides licensing the name, they really aren’t. They all get their gas from the same companies, many times even the same truck.

  11. Tee

Gas is $4.26 here which is putting a major dent in my pocket πŸ™ I’m definitely getting in on this deal since I already spend so much at CVS every week anyway πŸ™‚

    • Gabrielle

Wow πŸ™ where do you live that it has reached so high?

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

WOW here in middle georgia it is $3.79

    • yesica

same here πŸ™ im in cenrtal cali….

    • Gina S.

I feel ya. Southern California gas is $4.29 and I drive about 1500 miles a week with a 8am-5pm job and as a mystery shopper. Looking forward to tax season again so I can get some of my money back!

    • tilla

4.02 in my pierce county of washington but higher in seattle/king county areas. it is 83 dollars to fill up my van every 5 days. I think it just went down a few cents due to something, but haven’t filled up at the lower price yet, never been more jealous that we do not have cvs

    • katie

yeah…sacramento area is about the same. ugh.

    • anon

in indiana, PA i think it actually went down! it was 3.99 but was down to 3.89 πŸ˜€ and we complain about that, now i will be happier, its crazy in cali! (and i plan on moving their eventually…better keep clippin!)

      • Tia

Hey, Indiana PA! I graduated from IUP but I live in Miami now. Hope all is well up there!

    • Melissa

As of last night it was around $3.72 in SE Georgia, but I’ve been told my county does not charge a gas tax as well. In NE FL it was $3.86 on the news this afternoon. I’m only planning to make one road trip this summer up to NC, so these gas cards will defintely come in handy paying for that trip.

      • Kim

Is Chicago officially the highest? $4.56 here today in the North city area.

  12. Anna

Wow! Guess I should actually go in that CVS they just opened near us. Thanks!

  13. Lindsay

YAY! This is AWESOME! I’m so excited to see how much I can save this summer!

  14. Tim

Will definitely go to CVS more this and try to get gift cards for Royal Dutch Shell so I can support this company from my home country.

    • Tim

      This summer*

  15. CD

This is awesome! Will def be getting in on this! I have about $15 in ECB’s to use woo-hoo!

  16. caseymg

This could help us get that $10 a week back we have to put in the tank now! We were spending $35 a week and now it’s $45!!! Hopefully the prices and deals are right at CVS!

  17. Heather

Hmmm. If there are good deals associated with buying the products to qualify for the gas card, I’m game. But do I need $30 in Palmolive or candy. Noooo….LOL

    • Cheyenne

But Pamolive could deff be stocked up and/or donated who families who need it AND candy makes great presents for EVERYONE! πŸ™‚ Just sayin! lol

      • Heather

        I donate cash….. πŸ˜‰

        • Emily

We do, too, but I think it is easy to overlook the power of coupon giving. If I donate $5 to the homeless shelter, that’s kind of small. But what if I use that $5 at CVS, making use of coupons and extra bucks? I can turn it into a TON of products, worth far more than the original $5. It’s a gift of time and talent. πŸ™‚

  18. Eunsil

I know it is off subject, but can I get unused ECB again if I lost it? I’ve been looking everywhere for my $5 ECB that I got from buying beauty items, and can’t find it. πŸ™

    • fran

You might try calling the number on your Extra Care card, and explain what happened to you…it doesn’t hurt to try! Good luck πŸ™‚

  19. vee v

wooHoo! now thats what I’m talking about πŸ™‚

  20. Princessbooboo

I heard about this few weeks ago, and I am so excited πŸ™‚
Time to use all of my free Qs πŸ˜‰

    • Princessbooboo

oops! This promotion is for the specific items…
I was totally confused with Dillons lol

  21. Mike

Does anyone know if the $30 carries over multiple weeks or do you have to purchase $30 in one week? Meaning can I buy $30 worth over a three week span and get the card or does all $30 have to be within a one week timeframe? Thanks.

    • Kim

Rachel from mashupmom.com contacted them about this. It unfortunately does not roll from ad week to ad week.

  22. dreamofsavings

I can’t see “myself” spending $30.00 for this promo. Mostly junk items & GMO products. Can’t feed my family these items.

    • mouni

Haha I just wrote a comment that goes in the same sense before I saw your comment.

  23. mouni

You have to spend 30 on specific products . Edy’s ice cream, Tostitos, Doritos and Sobe water I That’s a lot of junk food! Not that I don’t eat junk food but I don’t want to spend 30$ (or 20$ after the deal) on it or close to it since there are no coupons that I know of for those products.

    • Samantha Booker

There were several coupons in the Pepsico insert but they are expiring soon. Check the Coupon Database at the top of the screen. HTH!

      • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Those coupons all expire before the promo begins.

    • DianeG

yeah – It is a very limited number of items and the prices are not so great. But I figure even if it only saves me $5.00, then it’s still worth it because these are things I can use. Since there are no inserts scheduled for this Sunday’s papers, here is how I would spend $30.00 after coupons –
      $10.00 4 -Lysol wipes 80 ct or Lysol spray 19oz $2/5 (use (2) $1.00/2 @ Lysol.com)
      $12.00 4 -Finish 20ct 2.99
      $10.00 4- Doritos or Tostitos 9 -13 oz or Tostitos salsa 15.5 oz $2/5

  24. Stacey

Remember, this deal is not all in one week or transaction. I’m sure over 14 weeks, you can all spend $30 BEFORE COUPONS!

    • Christy

I assume that it is asking too much that it is on shelf price and not sales price. Like the 2 gatorades would count towards the total…not just the one.

    • myromanfamily

it has to be all in one week

  25. Jessica

I will gladly take this! It costs me $120 to fill my tank. Talk about a blow to your wallet!

  26. Allison M.

I am STOKED about this promotion! I already love CVS, so this’ll just give me even more reason to go! And since my husband and I both had our own CVS cards prior to getting married, that’s twice the opportunity!

  27. Jessica Claire

We are in the same boat as Amanda C above. We have a baby in the NICU so driving to and from the hospital multiple times a day has been rough. On top of that, I was unexpectedly put on bed rest for 3 months before I had him so money is tight all around. Thanks for posting this Collin!!

    • mouni

My thoughts and prayers for your baby and I hope you get to take him/her home very soon. πŸ™‚
Gas eats a big chunk of my husbands salary because he has to drive about 2 hours a day for his job. He told me I shouldn’t even ask how much he’s spending these days because I would be shocked. My car also eats a lot fo gas and it’s just a mini van.. πŸ™

    • Tia

Jessica, sending blessings of good health for the baby. We spent almost 3 months in NICU. I didn’t have the strength to be online or even think of couponing back then. Glad you’re doing well.

  28. Chrissy

On CVS’s facebook page, it states: “The $30 can be over multiple shopping trips within one week.” So I don’t think you can accumulate over multiple weeks, but can do multiple trips in one week to rack up the $30. HTH!

  29. jessey

I have no CVS close to me πŸ™

  30. Katie

    Gas is $4.79 here

  31. Amie

yay and tomorrow I will be running back up to my cvs to get the second sun care product for my ten Extra bucks back! My sister printed me a coupon and my dad is bringing it to me. My son spilled water all over my coupon and I couldnt reprint it, so I didnt get two items.

  32. Jamie

Hope this was not already asked, but I have checked the ad several times, does the $30 have to be in ONE transaction? If anyone knows or finds the answer I appreciate your letting me know. Thanks.

  33. Carol

I read this on another deal site . . .

Each week if you purchase $30 in participating products you will get a free $10 gas gift card. You can earn one gift card per week. The catch, you must purchase $30 that week, it does not carry over week to week, and it’s only for a select group of items.

I will hold off on CVS gas deal until the promotion rules can be verified with certainty.

  34. vergin

    Hi,
    I have a Qn,
whether I have to buy for 30$ in one week or i can buy like 5$ this week, 10$ 2nd week, 15$ next week and can i get $10 gas card

  35. Maddie

I Love Love Love My Prius! It fits our family of five (plus two little dogs) and we get 48 mpg CONSISTANTLY. Best purchase we ever made. πŸ™‚
This gas promotion is a good idea.

  36. cin

    Question please, for a newbie.

I got a 25% off coupon emailed to me from CVS. It is not valid on sale items, so do you know if I am able to pair it with a manufacturer’s coupon to get the most bang from my buck??
    Thanks ladies.

  37. terri

does anyone know the price of the gatorade at CVS this week?

  38. Sarah

This wasn’t as good as it seemed. I purchased 4 tubs of ice cream and 4 bags of Doritos – turns out wasn’t enough to get the gas card, so I had to get 10 gatorades to reach that 30.00 mark. Still a decent savings and my husband is going to be thrilled to see all this, but not worth the hassle.

  39. Kathy

I don’t know if anyone is still reading this post or not… but when it says you can only redeem one gas card per week, does that mean I can earn two in one week, but only redeem one this week and save the next to redeem on another week if I don’t do the gas reward that week?
