If you have an iPhone or iPod, you may be interested in checking out this FREE app called CheckPoints!  Hip2Save reader, Susan, emailed me about this fun little app, so I decided to check it out…

Basically, here’s how it works…

* First, head on over here and download the FREE CheckPoints app for your iPhone or iPod

* Use the bonus code hip2save during sign-up and you’ll automatically earn 300 checkpoints
(Which equals a FREE $1 Home Depot gift card!)

* Then, you can play free games with coins to earn checkpoints, download free apps for coins (used to play games), check-in at various grocery/retail stores near you, scan specific products for free checkpoints, and more!  For example, I can earn 124 checkpoints at my local Walgreens store just for scanning certain products!  I’m thinkin’ this would be a fun activity that my kids would even enjoy while shopping (kinda like a scavenger hunt!)! :)

* When you have collected enough points, just redeem your checkpoints for rewards!  It only takes 300 points for a $1 Home Depot gift card, 600 points for a $2 CVS gift card, 3,250 for a $10 Amazon gift card, 3,440 for a $10 Home Depot gift card, 8,625 points for a $25 iTunes gift card, 17,250 points for a $50 Fandango or Victoria’s Secret Gift certificate, 52,500 points for a Nintendo Wii, and more!

Check out what reader Susan won today…

Today one of my spins won 150,000 points, which I turned into $360 in home depot gift cards, $25 in iTunes gift cards, $25 in Bath and Body Works giftcards, $50 in Victoria’s Secret gift cards, and a donation to tornado relief. I just won $460 in gift cards.  I never thought I would be lucky enough to win the 150K in points and was content with the pace at which I was earning my $10 amazon cards… which is FAR faster than you can win them using Swagbucks.

Wow!  With that being said, what are you waiting for?!  Head on over here to sign up… and start earning rewards!  Oh, and if you’ve already downloaded this free app, please feel free to share your thoughts on it in the Comments section below. Thanks!

(Thanks, Susan!)

It is also available on Andriod Smartphones. Not sure if I will still get the Hip2Save checkpoints but I am hopefully.

  • Alison says:

I’ve used this app for a few months now and it’s great! I’ve earned $20 of Amazon gift cards – can’t beat it!

  • smhartford says:

I am downloading it now for Android. So excited! I’m so addicted to this phone, so it’ll give me another reason to fiddle around with it through out the day.

  • Stephanie Vogel says:

I just downloaded it for Android. Thanks!!

  • jen says:

I have an ipod, but how can I check in at locations without there being free wireless in the vicinity?

  • Samantha says:

Does this work with the ipod touch? And how do you do the check-ins when there isn’t free wi-fi everywhere?

  • sarah says:

i have a similar app for my android called shopkick use the code maroon8160 and get 50 kicks you check in at stores and it has certain things to scan also it will give you deals for that store yesterday i go a $5 gift card just for going to best buy!!

    • ella says:

I have that too :) just got my $5 Best Buy card without going into the store they let you check in online for that one so cool :)

  • LISA B says:

I have Shopkick for Android, does anyone have both of these apps? I’m wondering which one is better. I usually forget about using Shopkick, especially when I’m in a store with my two boys!! I need to make my trips as quick as possible with them!!

    • kelli says:

shopkick takes awhile to get any points, but it’s still worth having on your phone. Usually a point here a point there. While both Shopkicks and checkpoints allow you to scan items, checkpoints has a much bigger selection of items to scan.

  • Nichele says:

I already had this one my phone but I keep forgetiing about it. It is fun to do. Thanks for the reminder

  • I’m very excited that this was also available on android! Now to start earning points!

  • lily2614 says:

Yeah it keeps saying “please turn on the location services for checkpoints app and then retry” How do you do that?? HELP PLEASE!!!

  • Cindy says:

When you scan items at the store, does an iPod Touch have to be connected to the Internet or can you scan the items, then upload them once you’re home and have access to a wireless connection?

    • Cara says:

It does not store them to be uploaded. You have to scan one and it verifies it and then you can scan another. To my knowledge If there isn’t wi-fi it won’t work for you.

  • Cara says:

I use both shopkick and checkpoints. I am loving CP because it is easy to get points and redeem, plus the coins you get from scanning items/trying new apps to play the games help you even further. Shopkick is worthless as far as redemption- anything worth redeeming is really expensive and the points are difficult to get. The only good thing about SK is their random incentives and exclusive coupons. (the $5 to best buy mentioned above). I love CP because they let you scan the same product every day if you’re at the store, whereas SK has a limit of something like 3-5 scans per product per month.

Another good thing about CP. When you do redeem, it is super fast. SwagBucks takes forever to give me my Amazon gift card codes. CPs did it in 24 hrs.

  • Amy says:

I’ve had this ap on my Droid for awhile now, and it only works ok for me. The scanning feature is touchy and doesn’t always work, but it is fun when it does. A lot of the time I forget I have it and forget to use it in the store.

  • kelli says:

I have them both too. They both have their advantages, so I’d say try to do both. I’ve had checkpoints for about 6 months and between my husband and I, we’ve made about $100 in Amazon gift cards. It’s so easy to do!
Shopkicks is limited in giving you any points, but if you get enough points, you can trade them in for Best Buy or Target GC, so anything free is worth it.
I also agree with Cara. Once you click for a prize, it’s basically instant into your email.

  • momziz says:

Is there anything like this for a Blackberry user…?

  • Beth w says:

I use Checkpoints and like it a lot. The only down side I have experienced is how much data it uses. I don’t have unlimited data. Still totally worth it though! My 2 year old loves to play the games after I have earned points :)

  • Melissa says:

Have it and love it! Already earned a 10 dollar amazon gift card and 1/2 way to another one. My kids LOVE to scan stuff. It’s nice when I go shopping. The take the phone and scan and are out of my hair;).

  • Susan says:

It does drain the battery, but it’s great. Be 100% sure you follow the terms, though, They are super strict about that.

    • ella says:

I have Automatic Task killer app which turns off the apps which not in use and saves a lot of battery life just love it :)

  • Teri says:

the android apps have them as well :)

  • tamelia tumlin says:

Does this program come with a barcode scanner when I install it or do I need to install that separately. If I do which one is the best free one that works for Android phones. I just downloaded checkpoints and I’m excited to get started. :)

  • Sherry says:

I love CP. We have an area close to me with a Walmart, Kohl’s, Gamestop, grocery store and Walgreens in the same parking lot. If I am near there, I stop into each of the stores and pick up most points offered per day. This way I earn a $25 amazon GC every 7-12 days.

I don’t really care for SK for all the reasons mentioned above: limited item scans per month, prizes are difficult to earn, I would be more inclined to use it if they had amazon GC as prizes.

    • Carla says:

You earn a $25 gc every 7-12 days?! That’s awesome!!! Holy guacamole…this may just be incentive enough for me to get a smartphone…and justify spending the extra $30/month! ;)

  • Belinda says:

my husband discovered check points at the begining of the year. however we cant scan stuff in stores cause we have it on the ipod. a little disappointed because i own a blackberry and this isnt available on there. :(

  • heather says:

My Checkpoints app is moving soo slow! And I am in a 3G area. Anyone else having this trouble? I thought it might be because so many people signed up because of collin’s post.

  • AC says:

I don’t see where to put the bonus code hip2save during sign-up. Help please!

  • Diana says:

Ella – is the task killer on the iPhone? I tried searching for it…seems like it could be useful for me!

  • Jessey says:

I downloaded this to both my iPad and iPhone but so far I can’t get it to load on either one.

  • Tanya says:

Oh my gosh! Collin, I am now seriously addicted to this app. My whole family is! We went to target and it was like a scavenger hunt while we were already shopping. So much fun, and you get free stuff!
Thank you so much for posting!

  • Mindy says:

I have this app and it is fun. I’m not too far from my nearest grocery store so I can scan stuff that I have in my cupboards at home and get some points! Around Easter, Peeps was one of the items and I had that sitting in my closet for my daughter’s basket so I scanned it every day. You get a coin to play a game for each scan along with points. I haven’t won the 150k yet playing the games. That would be sweet. Congrats Susan!

  • Angie says:

Ok i have a question..has anyone guessed what to scan for the van with the dog and the checkpoint dudes?! lol It says “Many flavors can make ya giggle, steady that box; it’s known to wiggle!” would it be Jello??! Thanks!! ;)

  • janae says:

I’ve been using this for a few days now and have really liked it! I know that it’s a little late to comment on this post, but I figured it’s worth a shot to ask right? Anyway…
An amazon giftcard would really help with baby diapers, wipes and possibly some christmas gifts for the kids. “Thanks” in advance to anyone who uses my code qpncrazy (it said that you would get 150 pts and I get 150 pts for a total of 300 split). Thanks again!

  • Boardinggod says:

Add this code “joshc2477″ for 1000 points and 5 coins.

  • Julia says:

I can NOT get my iPhone to connect to my iTunes, which is a different frustration in itself! But I am wondering can I get this app through my iPhone’s store or only through connecting to computer iTunes? Thanks!

  • Fianna says:

I have been using this app and loving it. I went to redeem my $25 Amazon GC and received notification that I had violated the terms of service.

“Examples of such activity can include scanning barcodes from anything other than physical products, scanning products outside of physical store locations, or posting referral code information inaccurately or improperly.”

I was scanning products at my house so this could definitely be the violation. However, I am curious if when at the grocery store, can I use the items from Walmart???

  • S says:

Where do you go to register & ear your HIP2SAVE points? I have an android smartphone.

  • Stephanie Riley says:

What is the $5 to best buy that you guys are talking about on Shopkick? i have the app but havent seen that?

  • DianaBanana says:

Do I need wifi to scan barcodes & get points?
