Collin, thanks for all your posts, but I had to share my laugh for this post. I live in east TX where blueberries are grown. We pick at a farm locally. The man’s son has his own blueberries behind the property. He is certified organic. He sells to Whole Foods. The Dad who has a pick-your own infront is pretty much organic, but doesn’t want to be certified. I pay $10 for a bucket which equals 5 1/2 quarts of blueberries. It just made me laugh. We have already picked 12 buckets this season & will get more.

To me, not having to bend over for hours in 100 degree weather is worth paying a couple of extra bucks! Just curious… where do you store 12 buckets of blueberries? Not that I’m buying that much at Whole Foods. Hopefully, no one else will either. They didn’t state a limit, so they may be gone in a blink of the eye. I digress!

Oh, we don’t really bend over to pick them. They are tall bushes, and almost look like trees. They average about 7 foot tall, and he keeps them trimmed. I probably put around 35 quart freezer bags in the freezer, dehydrate some, blueberry jam canned, whole blueberries canned (you can bake with these as well), and eat as many as we can possibly stand while they are in season. We love blueberries. I have a granola recipe where you use 1 cup of Jam. We just use what we make since we know what all is in it. We will give some of the canned stuff for Christmas gifts at the end of the year.

excellent way to use your local resources 🙂

Lisa, thank you so much! Very sweet of you. We are really trying, but it is hard work. Wish we could get good local peaches this year. Haven’t come across any. But, seriously people, this is a good way to still eat healthy, save a lot of money, and be prepared if your finances change for some reason.

I’m planning to squirrel away a couple of pints in my overflowing tiny freezer and eating mostly fresh. You’ve got some good storage ideas. Do you need a dehydrator to dehydrate?

Put some organic blueberries in a cup of warm water and see what happens.

Is it just me or does that pic make the blueberries look like the size of melons.LOL.

I was thinking the same thing about the size and the limit!! I love this time of year and all the fresh fruit. YUM.
