I went to Staples yesterday with my hubby and kids and we all picked out an item to purchase. When it came time to pay they let us do two transactions and then the cashier said I can’t allow you to use a q on this purchase (which was my husbands). They said that we were not following the rules. The cashier got the manager and he was really RUDE so my hubby pointed out that the q says 1 per each customer. My kids are 8 & 4. I allowed my kids to get things that they wanted and I don’t see the big deal about them using the q. The manager said to let the q go through, but that we would have to live with our actions. I couldn’t believe how rude he was. Im thinking of going back today, I don’t know if I should test the waters and see if they will let them use a q today, any thoughts???

    • Jessica

The q clearly states 1 coupon per customer per day. I think you should I am going back today I went yesterday with my brother we got one case of water for $.99 and a the paper towels for $1.99 we are buying the same things again tonight.

  2. Tanya

My Staples has the cases of Nestle water on sale for $2.99!!!!!! I’m headed back today to get another case FREE!!!!!!!!

  3. jennifer e

i went to our staples yesterday and a 24-pack of arrowhead water was $3.99. with the coupon, i paid $0.99. great deal for me since my husband refuses to drink filtered tap water.

  4. Stephanie

Thanks for sharing this deal! Will head over to Staple’s today – fingers crossed that I’ll be able to use both the store Q and the MQ!

    • Louisville

The Staples $3 coupon states that it cannot be used with another coupon. I thought about trying to stack them to until I read the coupon. Still it’s a very good deal for the paper towels.
They also have 2-packs of Kleenex tissue for $2.97. you would have to get a cheap .50 item off the clearance table to bring it over $3, but another good buy.

  5. Megan

Today I got free super glue and packs of tissues, and my son got a free flashlight. Thanks!!

  6. Stephanie

Yay! Just wanted to come back to update with my experience:

I got a 6-pack of Bounty for $1.88 oop! On sale for $4.99, less $3 with the Staples coupon, less $0.25 with a MQ from the 6/5 P&G Brandsaver (I didn’t get the $1/1). Good deal!

They had no problem with me stacking a MQ since the total after MQ was still more than $3. They also did have a sign up at their registers which said something along the lines of, “due to overwhelming demand only one $3 off coupon per customer per day will be accepted” and then a pic of the coupon in question.

Oh, and the people in front of me were a husband and wife both getting a 6-pack of paper towels like me and they let them do 2 separate transactions, each with a $3 coupon with no issue.

    Happy couponing everyone!

  7. Dannie

i’m going to try today hopefully I can get some paper towels because we’re in need.

  8. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

i feel bad for the way sometimes the manager and cashier were treating the customers with coupons. not to quote the time lost and the humialation sometimes. and its because of the time wasted and inflexibility to read the coupons, my husband gets fed up when i use coupons 🙁 but after he watched extreme couponers, he knows i on extrememly smallest scale like less than $10.. so he’s quite mild down and willing to redeem coupons with me 🙂

  9. beebs2010

I don’t have a Staples close enough to me to warrant the gas cost vs. the $3 Q. BUT…I do have an Office Max around the corner. So I called ahead to make sure they would honor the Staples $3 off and without hesitation they said “yes!”. They had there Bounty 6-Roll paper towels for $7.99…I didn’t even have to show them proof of Staples $4.99 sale on Bounty. They honored the sale price, plus the $3 off Q….PLUS…they also let me use the 20% off anything you can fit in the brown bag that I got in the newspaper on Sunday. $1.59 before tax. YAY!!!

    • Heather

I called my local office max and they told me that they don’t accept staples coupons 🙁

  10. Keisha

I went to Staples yesterday and today using the coupon. I saw the same sign “due to overwhelming response…one per customer per day”. That’s why I went back today and will go back tomorrow. 🙂 Getting the Ice Mountain for .99! You can’t beat it.

Thanks so much for posting this!! My son is gearing up for district all-star baseball tournaments in a couple weeks and in this sweltering heat the kids are going to need lots of water. With this coupon and several trips made between my hubby and myself we are going to be able to stock up on several 24 packs of water for $0.99 each!!

  12. Stephanie

Thanks SO much for posting this coupon link! Just went there with my MIL; we did two separate transactions and got a 6-roll of Bounty and a case of water for $1.98!!!!!!

  13. Bethanie

I went to Staples today and was told I could not use the MQ along with this coupon and when I asked for the manager to explain to me the wording on the coupon she proceeded to yell at me and said “People like you who try to combine coupons are causing managers like me to use their jobs because that is illegal..and when you get something for free you are basically stealing it from the store because “somebody has to pay for it”!!!???? What??? I was just trying to buy the paper towels Collin posted about using the 3.00 Staples Q and the 1.00 Manufacturer Q. I just cannot believe people treat people that way just because they use coupons. I told her the store gets reimbursed for the MQ, correct? And she said, no, ” we only get cents on the dollar, so we lose money”. Is this true?? She made me feel like a criminal and embarassed me to death! Collin, is that normal? Is anyone aware of the Staples coupon policy? I did call corporate to complain…if she had nicely told me the coupon policy changed and I couldn’t combine coupons, that would have been fine. But, she yelled at me basically just for being a couponer! Anyone else have issues at Staples???

    • JMC

Here is the policy directly from Staples, as they do not accept manufacturer coupons, and I was given this information directly from their Corporate Office. Also, the $3.00 off store coupon, and the $1.00 off manufacturer coupon is combining ‘dollars off’ coupons, which is also restricted. Stores that are allowing this are violating policies set forth by the Corporation, this is why people are being reprimanded and possibly terminated. When the Corporate office explained this to me, I was humbled, and embarrassed for my attempts to save a buck and cost someone their job. Lesson learned I suppose.

      Important Restrictions:
      •Coupons are not transferable.
•Coupons may only be used once and cannot be used on subsequent orders.
•Staples does not accept competitor, manufacturer or any other third party coupons..
      •Void where prohibited.
      •No cash or credit back.
•Coupon must be submitted at time of order.
      •Expired coupons are not valid.

•Staples Rewards® checks can be redeemed on any order.
      •Limit one per customer.
•Not valid on downloadable software, services, business service provider or custom–printing service provider web sites, gift cards or postage stamps.
•Not all coupons can be used in the store, through the catalog and on Staples.com. Please see coupons for details.

      • Bethanie

I do not think most of us couponers are trying to cost anyone their job or take something that is not ours…I just think when the coupon policies change, they should teach their employees to politely explain it to the customers before yelling at them and making them feel like criminals. I want to follow the rules but, if the rules keep changing and I don’t know what they are…I would prefer someone to nicely tell me rather than yell at me and make me feel like I am stealing!! 🙁

    • yoyobaka

I totally understand!! It happened to me last night in havertown,PA! And I only used one coupon for $3.00 off! The reason why the cashier talked like this coz me, my sister and brother all use coupons, and the cashier thought we were “one” customer,….. I told the cashier, mm… Me and they are 3 customers and we don’t even live in the same roof! I told the cashier nice and clear, if you have any problem with the customer who couponing then you should talk to your management or advertisement department, NOTMe! And I do followed the policy. Then the cashier keeps saying loud about there are many ppl used coupons it’s painful….many complains! Anyway, we all used the coupons coz we do follow the policy, but I really don’t like the way ” the cashier” treat ppl who with couponing!!

Omg it was awesome I got the paper towels and the scotch pop up tape for only 1.25! They accepted the manufacturer coupon too! Thanks a lot I love ur site!

  17. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I got the bounty paper towels tomorrow yesterday for $1.99. 🙂 I did had the $1 off mfr coupon from P&G but it didn’t worked as the Stapes coupon clearly stated that “Minimum purchase requirement of $3 must be met with purchases to which no other coupon or instant savings offer applies.” So, I was not able to use my $1 mfr coupon. But not bad, I still was able to score a pretty sweet deal :0. Thank you collin for posting this, as I would never be able to know about it.

  18. becky

I used the $3 off coupon on Charmin toilet paper that was reduced to $4.50 (12 pack). They let me combine it with a $1 off manufacturer coupon so I got the 12 pack for 61 cents after tax!!! 🙂

  19. JMC

Again, I am also all about getting a good deal, but is it really worth it to knowlingly put someone in a position to jepordize their integrity? I think about the $8.00 / hour cashier, or the $30,000 / yr Manager that has been put in the situation of trying to enforce corporate policies, only to have customers argue over ‘the fine print’ The people working at store level do not make the rules, they are only given the rules, and then the expectations is for them to comply with those rules. There comes a point in time when someone gets frustrated and just says ” go ahead and take the coupon ” and its then that someone higher up than them enforces some type of discinplinary action. Working with the public must be ‘trying’ everyday, and then you add in the confrontations from people wanting more than what they’re entitled to- I for one have a total different opinion now that I’ve looked at it from both sides. I don’t want to save an extra buck on some paper towels, and have someone lose their job because of it….not worth it to me. Companies will find other means to recover the loss revenue, whether it be raising their prices, or eliminating jobs, either way we’re not doing any justice to the economy, or the “American Dream” by taking advantage of a situation or of another human being just trying to do their job.

I specifically asked the associate manager if I could combine it with a manufacturer coupon and he said yes. I think it depends on the store’s policy.

  20. Tina in East Texas

Collin, thanks so much for the tip about the paper towels! I would have never thought to buy something like that at Staples. I had $8 in Staples Rewards that was expiring soon and combined with the $3 coupon I was able to get two packages of Bounty and some glue sticks for free. What a thrill!
