The original deal works out to be .35 cent per load after tax in my city. .99 x 9% tax= $1.08
1.08/3 loads = .35 cent per load
That seems high in my opinion. If it weren’t for the additonal coupon in each pack, this deal would not be worth it.
But, it may be worth it to avid Tide people…*shrugs*

Well, I guess I calculated wrong. The cost would be .19 cent per load.
1.08 -.50= .58 per 3 = .19 cent per load. A little better!

Can’t beat my homemade laundry detergent recipe…
$1.71 for 5 gallons = 190 loads= .009 per load.
One of the best money saving things I did for our family was to start making my own laundry detergent.

if you google homemade laundry detergent several recipes come up. we used a recipe for cloth diapers consisting of equal amounts of: fels naptha soap, baking soda wash, and borax. my daughter is VERY sensitive and never had issues with borax laundry booster HOWEVER there are many people out there that feel very strongly against using borax. it is very concentrated. so once you mix all this up you only use 1-2 TBS per full load wash. the only reason i stopped doing this is bc i couldn’t take hand grating the fels naptha! you really want to get it “fine” to dissolve in cold water. best wishes!

But here are the directions as well:
4 cups hot water
1 bar Fels Naptha Soap
1 cup Washing Soda
1/2 cup Borax
Fels-Naptha Soap is about $0.99 per bar. To find a store near you go to: http://www.henkelna.com/henkel-store-locator-9949.htm. I find it at Publix. Harris Teeter also carries it. You need one per batch. The Borax is about $3.79 per box. The 76 oz. box will make 19 batches. The Washing Soda is about $2.29 per box. The 55 oz. box will make 6 batches.
•Grate the bar of soap (I used my food processor) and add to a large saucepan with hot water. Stir over medium-low heat until soap dissolves and is melted.
•Fill a 5 gallon bucket half full of hot water. Add the melted soap, Borax and Washing Soda, stir well until all powder is dissolved. Fill the pail to the top with more hot water.
•Let sit overnight to gel.
•The next day thoroughly stir the mixture with a whisk (or stir with a clean paint stirrer attached to a household drill) making sure to get to the bottom of the bucket.
•To use- fill an empty detergent bottle with detergent.
•Use 1/3 cup per load (top loading machines), shaking or stirring soap before each use. Front loading machines will use less. Detergent does not suds like conventional detergent does… it doesn’t have to- it still cleans!
By my calculations this recipe cost me $1.71 for 5 gallons and will wash at least 190 loads. That’s $0.009/load. It’s going to cost me 45 cents to fill the empty container that cost me $13.99 at Costco.
I hope you try it!! I haven’t purchased pre-made laundry detergent in years. I use the $5.00 off a $30.00 purchase coupons I get in the mail from Publix to buy the ingredients and I usually end up getting my bar soap for free! That makes it $0.71 per batch or $0.003/load.

I originally used the .35 off any Tide coupons and bought a few of these, then continued to turn them over for FREE with the $1.00 off one coupon inside each one. My friend and I take turns using our set of coupons and every week we now get 13 FREE travel size packets. I have family that camp and travel a lot, so they have found these very useful. They are also good for washing out swimsuits every day instead of running the machine.

Is there enough product in one of these to do a whole load of laundry? Would be great for us to take with us on vacation, as we typically do a few loads and I hate to lug a whole jug of detergent with us.

Jennifer, I use the Purex 3 in 1 sheets for travel! They work great for vacation, also make your suitcase smell good

These do not have enough to do a regular load. These little packs are nice for washing swimsuits, under garments, or anything that you would normally presoak or wash in a sink.
A normal size load in the washer normally takes between 1.5 up to 2.5 oz I believe and each of these packages only have 0.5 oz each. Therefore, you’d need to bring about 4 packages for each load you expect to do and open about 10-12 little packets per load. I do love the $0.97 purex sheets at Walmart for these times…. they smell your luggage up and no need to bring softener or dryer sheets… AND they are light to carry too! HTH

Have you seen any coupons for the purex 3 n 1 sheets. My girlfriends looking for some for her daughter who is heading off to college. I stopped today at Target and bought 5 travel liquid packs of Tide to get her started until we find the Purex. Thanks

I’m going to have to try this. I’ve yet to ever manage to snag a deal on travel sized anything because when I find one they are always sold out. Maybe i’ll get lucky this time.

Ok, I did the math here. In my state we pay 7% sales tax and the pre-coupon price is what’s taxed,,, so here’s the math:
A huge 150 oz bottle of Tide runs for $17.97 ($19.22 after tax!)
These packets have 0.51 oz for the entire 3 packet package.
(5mL per packet = 15mL for all which is about 0.51 oz total)
You would need to purchase about 295 packages to equal 1 bottle
295 packs = $295 so even though the packets are FREE I would still end up paying $20.65 in sales tax for these. A good deal for 2-3 packets to have as backup or as a luxury, but not good enough price to go crazy rolling coupons for me IMO.
This is not true of all travel size items,,, but for laundry detergent it seems to be so…. You also must consider that these are sink packs so you need to open ALOT of little packets to do one load in a regular size washer. 295 packages each with 3 packets to open equals 885 little tide packs to open and put in landfill. If you’re gonna go crazy with this deal,, just save money and resources and use your coupons for the big bottle! Just my opinion though!

On the Tide, I got 10 and actually took out the coupon out from the inside the package since it wasn’t sealed before checkout. I didnt have any problems with the cashier doing it that way. You cld get tons free!
