Are people still having a lot of trouble getting cashiers to round coupons down when they are a penny over? I haven’t tried this in a while since I had so much trouble with it before, and I haven’t heard much about it lately…

    • Melissa

I had that problem yesterday, when I tried to buy the $.99 Expo dry erase markers w/ a $2/2 coupon. She wouldn’t round the coupon down… said “sometimes we can do that, but not with this coupon.” Sounded like a lame answer to me!

    • NolaGirl

My Walgreens had shelf tags noting the $2.99 Splenda sale. The coupons wouldn’t scan so the cashier forced it for the full face value. Woo hoo a Walgreens miracle & an extra 2 cents!

The young lady went above and beyond to help the customer before me. I really appreciate a Wags cashier who does her job well – she knew all the specials, was well aware of store policy, and how to work around Wags’ wacky registers.

I wish more Walgreens cashiers took pride in providing great customer service. I hate Chalmette politics, but I’ll be visiting the Chalmette store more often.

  2. Pam

yeah, I did this deal earlier this afternoon in the Chicagoland area.

  3. Missie B.

Yes, I was there just recently and the manager had to come over and do it and was not very happy about it. I even tried buying a little something extra to cover the overage, but it didn’t work. I wish they would get on board like the other stores. I mean, even Walmart is ahead of them! LOL!

    • Kelli

This may sounds like a bit of trouble, but when you are faced with a coupon that exceeds the value of the item, you can add on a second of that specific item, and either have them void the unwanted item at the end or return in later. Works like a charm…..

  4. Elle

Off topic but I was just able to sign up for the free suave samples from walmart that ran out earlier! Maybe it will work for others as well!!

    • Chris M.

      Thanks! Got mine!

They were on sale at my store, but were sold out. Either way I would’ve passed after the headache with the coupons last time. I just wish it were list it the ad so I could price match at Target. They took the coupons without batting an eye.

      Get a Rain Check next time – Q doesn’t expire until 8/15

This deal is why I stopped shopping at Walgreen’s: the last time they had the Splenda for $2.99 and a coupon for $3.00, I couldn’t get any employees or managers to adjust it down. The managers were RUDE and told me they never, ever, ever would do such a thing and they had no knowledge of any corporate coupon policy. Hello, Walmart!

    • T

wow. I cant believe that! I have an amazing Walgreens near my rental house, (part of the reason I keep renewing my lease!)…they tell me what days to come in (shipment days) and there is another lady who clears out their shelves. They warn me to try to come before her. But they are like my “store” friends…there are 2 women there that also coupon so they are more coupon friendly I guess. The only problem I have heard filter down from other stores is that people have been wiping the shelves and they dont care too much for that. I live in a big big city where I literally have 4 walgreens within 4 miles of my house. I’d try another store if you could! Walmart is the place that I dread…..

I totally snagged this deal earlier this week, and plan on going back later in the week to see if they have more.

My favorite Walgreens (corner of Naperville Rd and West Loop in Wheaton, IL) educates their employees about the coupon policy, allows me to do as many transactions as I want to score the maximum number of RR, and has a manager who truly respect coupon users. I often will adjust the coupons down for the cashier, so they don’t have to do it at the cash register.

    • RobinElise

I love that Walgreens! I’ve never had a problem with them. Their employees are fantastic 🙂

    • Lisa L.

Wow!! I live in West Chicago, and so far the one on the corner of 59 and Washington is awful, all of the employees look oblivious when I present coupons, and the one in St. Charles off of 64 and Kirk is terrible; their employees (every one I have encountered) starts to argue why they can’t take a coupon before I even present it! It’s like they want to fight as soon as they see me pull out a couple coupons! The only reasonable one I have been to (and only one cashier/manager) has been kind, and that’s all of the way by Randall in Batavia!!! I am SO glad to hear of a local Walgreens that accommodates couponers! And I am not even that extreme! I only stock up a little at a time…

      • Linda

One of the assistant managers said today that coupons were another form of tender. And he’s right. They actually make money off of coupons, because when they send them in, they get $.08 on each coupon.

I’m not extreme either, and really enjoy getting great deals and giving them away to charity or giving them away to my friends and family. I keep 2 tubes of toothpaste and donate the rest. God knows I can’t use 1,000 tubes of toothpaste in an entire lifetime!

  8. Jules

IDEA here.. one manager just changed the price of the item to the price of the coupon!!! (worked last time when the splenda was on sale)..However I saved my raincheck from when PUBLIX had it BOGO and now its a MM~! WHOOT Whoot!!!

  9. Jessica

I have to say, i have the same problem at my Walgreens with coupons! I really, REALLY wish Walgreens employees were on board with what’s happening. Regarding the Expo coupons: My cashier said that i had to purchase something else because the total after coupons for 2 sets of markers was .14 Cents and the LEAST amount i could pay tax was .16 cents?!? I purchased a .39 Cent caramel and then asked the manager about their tax policy and he looked confused!

  10. melissa

I am not even trying this, I have the most unfriendly Walgreens when it comes to using cpns more than the sale price (unless I’m using a store coupon). last time I tried, when Nivea was $2.99 and there was the $3 manuf q, it was plain as day in the ad and the manager refused to adj the cpn down nor change the nivea to $3. I was so ticked, I stopped shopping there for months!

  11. eaglemichie

Wasn’t on sale in my area of Florida. :o(

    • Angel

      what area area in fl

  12. Asmtih

I wouldn’t even bother trying at my Walgreens . I haven’t been in months. They will not adjust down and act like it hurts them to even scan your coupon

  13. Michele

At my walgreens today I was able to use the expo coupon fine, but when she got to the splenda coupon it wouldn’t scan so she wouldn’t take it and didn’t adjust it down. I didn’t have time to deal with a manager so I just had her take them off my transaction. i am going to try again at another store and see what happens.

  14. Jeannie

No Problem with this deal tonight at the North Eastern CT store! YAY! It was on sale for $2.99…. Sales Associate was SUPER sweet and said “Oh i love watching the price drop!” I had a copy of the store policy with me and she said “NO PROBLEM!” She knew exactly what to do!

  15. Quia

I went to my Walgreens tonight and they only had the original Splenda sale priced at $2.99 so I couldn’t use my $3.00 Essential coupon 🙂 wish the Essential was on sale in my area. However I did purchase the Colgate gum defense toothpaste (2 for $6 deal)using the $1.50 coupons and got the $4 RR but I bought 4(using 4 coupons) and only got one $4 RR should I have separated the transaction? I am new to shopping at Walgreens.

    • tonia

on any walgreens deals where it has limits, you will have to do separate transactions. You should have had 4 different transactions. That is the only way you can get the rr.

    • Tammy

At my Walgreens, they had the sale sign under the regular splenda and not the Essentials. I took the Splenda Essentials up to the register and they were on sale! Yippee!!

  16. Lisa L.

I just ran out to my Walgreens when I saw this deal, and nope— they are priced at $8.99 a box!! So if your Walgreens has them marked to $2.99, grab them!! The best price I found around was Target last week; they had them marked on sale for $3.49, making them .49 after the coupon, so still a pretty darn good price if you ask me.

    • britney

OMG! 8.99 a box!? that is crazy!

      • Tammy

That is crazy. I thought the regular price was only suppose to be around $5.49. 🙂

  17. Rosie

I ran out and got some! My Walgreens in Colorado are the best- even the manager has come out to help and he always has a great attitude.

  18. margaret in seattle

anyone know how long the $4 RR will be ended? is it only til this saturday or it;s a month long promotion?

  19. CHI

Does anyone know if this kind of Splenda cakes/hardens? We are a small family and don’t use it fast enough. Last time i got Splenda with fiber i had to throw away half the box b/c by then all the packets were hard as a rock.

    • Stacy

Make sure you store them in a ziplock container and push all the air out. I have that issue because it’s humid here, so it turns to rock quickly. The ziplock really helps.

  20. margaret in seattle

sorry….wrong place to post this question. i am referring to the degree deo promotion

  21. britney

I used these last night at my WGN in TX. They would not go through, and the manager made the cashier void the item, and then ring them up as $3, and then try the coupon. They still didnt work, so they manually put them it. they were very nice, i just felt bad about the line behind me!

    • Alison

It was on sale for me and I tried buying it earlier today. The cashier said it wouldn’t scan and then noticed the price difference. I had the coupon policy with me and asked if she could adjust the coupon down. She called for the manager who indicated that they can no longer adjust coupons down (they were getting in trouble for that). When I referenced the policy with her, she said that there are a bunch of changes to the coupon poilcy “in the works” (due to extreme couponing). After a little bit more pressing she told the cashier to adjust the price of the Splenda to $3.00 and left. The coupon didn’t work 🙁 I left without the Splenda and will confer with corporate on the policy.

  22. Alisha

I went to Walgreens this morning and bought the Toothpaste and found the Splenda on sale for $2.99. There was only one box left so I grabbed it and then had a hard time trying to use my $3.00 coupon at the register. The cashier had no idea what to do and called the manager who said they couldn’t take it, I asked her to call back because yes there corporate policy was to adjust the amount down. Never once did a manager come speak to me even after requesting one, but finally a different manager called her and told her yes she could manually enter the sale price in. The cashier apologized and said that they never have any meetings about their store policies and so the cashiers have no idea!! Really, this is ridiculous that stores do not train there associates. I shouldn’t feel like a criminal when I use a coupon, which um hello, is FREE money!! And they make money off of every coupon used!

  23. Andrea

So I went to Walgreens in Richmond, VA and I couldn’t even find this product. They had some other types of splenda, but not this one. I wonder if it has anything to do the fact that we are in a “test market” Has anyone around the chesterfield/Richmond area found this deal?

    • linda463

None in the Cincinnati area. I’ve tried 5 stores in both downtown and a northern suburb, but they only carry the regular Splenda sweetener.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      Found it in Petersburg

  24. hope4311

My Walgreens didn’t have the splenda essentials but my Target did have them clearanced for $3.38 so nbot bad with the coupons 🙂 The ones left were splend antioxidents and b vitmain
