This has nothing to do with coupons. Collin, I was wondering where did you get that desk from? Thanks.
Collin says:
Hi Sam!
I actually snagged this desk (which I love!) from Pottery Barn. It was a desk that was displayed in the store and had quite a few minor dings so I was able to get it it a great discount.

Collin, often times I go to the store and purchase things I need to but forget to use coupons for one of items (eg. I find the coupon in my pocket when I am at home and I can’t go back or it’s just too costly to drive back for an adjustment. Generally it is a food item, and I know that if I come back and get an adjustment 1 or 2 days later, they will never let me do it. Target and Walmart near me say it has to be the same day (for a missed coupon refund). I asked them before if I could just do a rebuy and return, and they say it’s possible, but food items are usually “defected” and not sold again, per the Target manager. I don’t want to do that to the store or manufacturer since there is nothing wrong with the item. I don’t want them throwing out the product just so I could save $1. I know it is ultimately my fault if I didn’t present the coupon at checkout or I should have checked my receipt to see if I had all the coupons, but do you have any tips on how to deal with a missed coupon?
Additionally, some cashiers have taken my coupons but a few have not scanned them through for some reason (again, I didn’t notice until after I left the store). I’m too embarrassed to go back and tell them that they didn’t scan my coupons. What should I do in this situation? I’ve always just let it go, but I’ve kept a tally, and so far, I have “overpaid” by quite a bit for a few items.

I love all your videos, but will there be anymore coffee with collin and follow me mondays? I miss the older videos they were so much fun and interesting!
Collin says:
Yep! I took a break this summer, but I will be back in action shortly!

Great video Collin! I have been using coupons for over two years now and have been with hip2save from the beginning. I just wanted to mention one important fact that some newbies do not realize…the printable coupons usually print 2 per computer and that it is illegal to copy them! Enjoy the coupon journey newbies, it is very fun and rewarding!!
Collin says:
Thanks for pointing that out… it’s so important to know about the print limit pertaining to printable coupons.

I love all of your videos and I learn so much from them. I have been a loyal reader for almost 3 years and you have helped my family save tons of money. I STILL feel like I am learning though and I appreciate all that you do. I go into Hip2Save withdrawals when I am away from my computer for any length of time. haha!
Collin says:
Thank you so much! Your comment brought a huge smile to my face!
Kathleen says:
I have been couponing for a couple of years now & I NEVER knew that the date was printed on the side of the coupon inserts. LOL DUH!! But I am sooo glad I watched this video even though I don’t consider myself a “newbie”. I have tons of old coupon inserts that I wanted to organize into a file box put I had no idea what dates they were from. Now I know where to look! I am so excited!!! Thanks Collin!!
Collin says:
Yay! Glad I could help… those dates on the spine of the inserts really do come in handy!
Kathleen says:
I wanted to also mention that I LOVE your coupon binder!!! It’s awesome. I have one too and it’s only half the size of yours. Did you end up getting a new binder purse? I might have missed that on your site but I remember you asking what others used and I didn’t know what you ended up getting.
Collin says:
I have not found a new binder purse yet
…. guess I’m kinda picky! I am currently using a reusable bag I got at Old Navy.
Jen C says:
I love having a refresher course! Thanks, Collin!
Collin says:
You’re welcome!

Collin, we are stationed at Cherry Point. We get free coupons in the weekly base newspaper called “The Windsock.” It’s usually Red Plum and it might be slimmer than the Sunday insert, but still worth picking up for free! I often get multiple coupons for make up, hair products, etc from this paper. Does Camp Lujuene have a similar base newspaper?
tyr888 says:
i have to say, i think colin is quite pretty. that and how refreshingly real she is – her husband and kids are quite lucky to have her
Christina says:
I have been using coupons for a long time, but just discovered your site a few months ago, while on maternity leave. I’m amazed at how much money I save now, wish I had found you sooner. Thanks for all you do!
sockmonkey says:
Collin, I have followed your site for 1 year now and I don’t consider myself a coupon newbie but I love your videos. So, I watched all three of your newbie videos and I want to say THANKS A MILLION! I learned something I did not know which is that the date of each insert is on the spine. I have always struggled with figuring out the dates of my inserts and this will save me so much time. Just when I think I know everything about couponing, you go and teach me something new. Keep up the great work
