One Reader's Story: Let's Rescue Each Other

As most of you likely know, I posted yesterday about the fact that the grass is not always greener on the other side. I was so inspired and uplifted as I read through all of your comments on this post last night. In fact, I had a really hard time closing down my computer as I kept refreshing the comments. One of the comments that really touched my heart was left by reader, Bridget…
I used to be a cashier at a big box store for several years before kids and can remember a time when I was having an extremely bad day. I was 16 or 17 and had already been called a few bad names and had something thrown at me before lunch. Not a normal day! I just wanted to go home and was counting down the customers until time was up.
My last customer was a woman who had a cart full of items, several things that needed price checked, and a ton of glass items that needed to be wrapped. I was praying she would pick a different line. I was short with her and by the end of the transaction I barely spoke to her. I rolled my eyes at her as she asked me to double bag things. She was kind to me anyway and apologized for “taking so long”. As soon as she left I raced to the back, clocked out, and drove off for home.
My car slipped on some black ice on my way home and I crashed. I wasn’t hurt but had to climb out the window to get out. No one stopped to help me. As I walked down the highway towards home (no cells then) a car pulled over to help, it was my last customer! I felt so badly for how I treated her and I was so thankful that she saw that rude little cashier in need of help and stopped and drove me home. I will never forget her and how she changed one snotty cashier for the better.
Every time I see a cashier being rude or otherwise I try to remember that they might be having a bad day and who knows, maybe I’ll be the nice lady that can rescue them some day 
.
