I’ve never heard of giving flip flops as stocking stuffers before. Would you do that? It just seems gross to see flip flops, even new, clean ones, sticking out of the stocking. I’ve given my kids new underwear and socks in their stockings, but not flip flops.

Why do people need flip flops in December or January anyway? I live in Oklahoma and it’s still not warm enough for flip flops most of the time in January; if you life in Iowa or New York, they would just sit in the closet until May!

I think it’s just a “suggestion” and it goes back to it’s the thought that counts. I usually don’t fit all my families stocking stuffers in the stocking anyways because I tend to get carried away buying too many so they end up wrapped under the tree making it look full of pretty presents lol. Anyways I’m thankful to Collin for bringing us these great deals and suggestions. I wouldn’t mind getting a pair of FILA flip flops in my stocking = )

i would luv these flip flops in my stocking! We wear them all year.. they are adorable!

I live in Florida where flip-flops are standard casual footwear for all ages/genders and they’re especially popular amongst teens and college students. I work for a small, business casual office and my boss even wore flip-flops one Friday after a grueling week (we were only planning to put in a couple of hours and there weren’t any client meetings scheduled). I wouldn’t consider flip-flops gross or inappropriate for a stocking or Easter basket at all. (And in Florida we get occasional shorts/t-shirt/flip-flop days even in December.)

To offer another viewpoint – I can’t see myself putting underwear, socks or toothbrushes in my daughter’s stocking because I consider it my job to provide the necessities to her until she’s old enough to have a job (unless we were going through a rough patch financially and the choice was practical items or an empty stocking).

To each their own though 🙂

Interesting. I had never heard of flip flops in stockings, so I was just curious. I lived in Southern California for 10 years too.

The underwear/sock thing is a tradition in many families. It’s just another stocking stuffer so you don’t have 10 pieces of fruit filling up the stocking! lol

And I have expressed my gratitude for all that Collin does here many many times. I certainly hope that we can still ask questions though about deals. Sometimes people seem to act as though you are “questioning Collin” if you ask a simple question. I would hope that discussion remains an option here. It’s always interesting to hear how other families do things differently because we aren’t all the same!

No problem! (For me personally, it was the use of the adjective “gross” that made me read your tone as a little judge-y more than curious) I like hearing different traditions/food/etc. as well – it’s one of the fun parts of the diversity of the Internet.

I can understand the the underwear/socks thing, I just remember being a little disappointed when my husband (in my pre-couponing days) filled my stocking with necessities like shampoo and conditioner. I appreciated the gesture – he had remembered how I complained about spending so much money on those things and he’d even raided the bathroom to make sure he bought my favorite brands – but as a kid, in our family, the stocking was just “fun” stuff like toys and candy.

My daughter’s stocking will have a reading book, some activity books, a small memory game, lip gloss and sparkly lotion, stickers and candy.

I felt the same way when I read gross in your comment too lol but I enjoy and respect your point of view. I hope I didn’t offend anyone in any way. I think its awesome we can all share and have an open discussion. Well enjoy the rest of your day ladies n enjoy the holidays I know I cant wait!!

      • sringrose

oops! Sorry guys. I didn’t realize that would come across that way. For me shoes = dirty, so even putting new flip flops in a stocking would seem “gross” to me. I know that they are brand new and clean, but they are still shoes. It wasn’t meant as a judgment, just how I see it. If my kids run around in my back yard, they will inevitably end up stepping in dog doodoo. lol So shoes always stay by the door in my house.

Speaking of dirty and clean things, I knew a woman whose mom thought that her washing machine didn’t get her underwear clean enough. So she put the underwear, after being washed in the washing machine, in the MICROWAVE to kill all of the germs. This to me is the height of disgustingness. I don’t care if they went through the washing machine first, to put underwear in the microwave where my FOOD goes just skeeves me out. Obviously this woman thought it was necessary, but I still think it’s bizarre.
