Wow! Reader, Kelly, emailed about a *HOT* Charmin deal she was able to score at Staples this week! You should also be able to snag a similar deal at your local Staples. Here’s how…

* Buy 5 Charmin Basic toilet paper (16 ct – double rolls) on sale for $5.99
Total = $29.95
Use the $5 off $25 Staples coupon found here
Plus, if your Staples accepts manufacturer’s coupon (most do), use 4 $0.25/1 coupons found in the 1/1 PG (keep in mind that you can only use up to 4 of these coupons per the fine print)
Final cost as low as $23.95 (or $24.95 with no manufacturer’s coupons)!

This is one heck of a deal for a total of 80 double rolls of Charmin! And keep in mind, 80 double rolls equals 160 single rolls – so basically you are paying $0.15 per single roll. I aim to pay no more than $0.25 per single roll – which makes this (in my opinion) one heck a deal!

(Thanks, Kelly!)

Oh wow! Guess I need to drive to staples.

    • Vee

So I went to Staples and the lady stated they could not take the $5 coupon because it states “Minimum purchase requirement of $25 must be met with purchases to which no other coupon or instant savings offer applies.” She said the deal is a “instant savings offer and it cannot be used with this. She also said it wouldn’t scan as she tried with another lady yesterday. So I paid $30 with my 4 charmin $0.25 Q’s. Maybe your clerks will at least try and scan it.

  2. mary

I did this deal awhile back when they were 4.99. Can’t beat it!

  3. Jana

I thought most PG coupons stated “limit of 4 like coupons in one transaction” I don’t have my coupon binder handy but just want to make sure I follow the rules.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Yep, you are correct! I just updated the post…thanks for catching that. 😀

  4. Lisa

I scored a awesome deal at cvs bought 6 charm in ulta soft 9 rolls 5.50$ total 32.00$ used 12$ in coupons so – 19.00$ plus got back a 10$ CVS cash card thats 9.00$ for 6 packs of charmin:) HAPPY!

    • hsvmom3

Where did you get the $2.00 coupons?

      • Lisa

Blinkies in kroger or on ebay:)

  5. bella

dang if i did that, i would have tp for like 2 years!

  6. c

Hey Collin, I think all P&G coupons are limit 4

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Thanks! Just updated the post. 😀

  7. Catie

There are also dollar off coupons that came in booklets in packages of batteries and paper towels, among other P&G products I bought before/during the holidays..that would make an even better deal

  8. virginia

fred meyer has $2/1 charmin coupons (blinkie)

    • LYdia

My Kroger did too! I scored a great deal on TP this week at Staples. We are stocked up now for awhile. 🙂

  9. Esther W

Please DON’T use five of the PG coupons… they say limit of four like coupons per shopping trip.

    • Forthecoups

The charmin coupons are $1 off 2 charmin products..so in this case the most we can use is 2 coupons if we buy 5 packages or 3 coupons if we get 6 packages.

  10. Rachel

My Sunday paper had a $1.00 off 2 Charmin products P&G coupon.

  11. Laura

Has anyone ever tried “Charmin Basic” before? I like deals but I don’t wanna be stuck with tp I hate. Ha.

    • Marie

My family all told me….never buy this type of Charmin again. Needless to say I have not. Very rough.

    • Amy

Personally, my family hates it! It’s nothing like the “real” charmin. ( :

    • Sara

I second that….its rough…we prefer the charmin ultra soft.

    • britt

I have been using it for a while. I personally like it. its not thin and its not rough either. I think it is comparable to scott extra soft.

    • Melissa Morrell

It is my favorite. It flushes very well, and it doesn’t leave the lint/fuzz that the ultra soft does.

      • Molly

i love this type as well.

        • jojo

good for me and my family!

          • coupon connie

I like it too. .not as thick as the other Charmin which is good when kids and toilets are involved!

            • Summer

ditto! That’s why I really like it.

    • CW

I too was skeptical and got it on that deal where it shipped from Staples – sent it to my parents and brother also. Its not the Ultra but it is just fine – not rough. And as others have mentioned about the Ultra clogging their pipes, this one does not (my bathroom has a pipe issue from builder, as well as both family members I sent to having septic systems)…no problems… I just got back from purchasing it at Staples. for 15 cents a roll, I’ll live without the Ultra. I’ve learned with today’s economy there are more important things to put your money into than TP. LOL 🙂

    • Erin

I don’t care for it. I don’t think this is a particularly good deal for this type of tp.

    • Pam

I think they changed this toilet paper somehwat recently? I used to like it for the price, but it seems like the last pack I got wasn’t as soft & had a different/rougher design on it?? Is it just me or has anyone else sensed a change? I’m not ultra picky, try to be reasonable for what it’s used for…lol…but some are just no good!

A kind I do like is in the Target restroom (at least at the one next to the pharmacy at my store), wish I could figure out what it is, but doesn’t look like any of the major brands on the shelves, so proably some industrial brand or whatever…

      • Rachel K

They have changed it!! I loved Charmin Basic, since it was always less expensive, great quality, and you got more. They changed it to have the Duraflex stuff and it is now like cheap dollar store tp! It made me sad that they started making it thinner and not as soft!

    • mizzy

Nothing like the Charmin Ultra Soft or Ultra Strong. If I have to rate the Ultra Soft, I would give it 8 or 9 (out of 10). I would rate the Charmin Basic at 3–4. It’s comparable to the Marcal brand.

  12. Tara

I wish I liked the Charmin Basic.. My family is super picky and only likes the Ultra Soft! Bummer!

    • Mrspurple

Same here! Ultra soft… do you know of any other brands that have something comparable to ultra soft? I almost bought the cottonelle deal the other day (or was it quilted northern?) but I wasn’t sure if it was rough or not….

      • Shelley

I hear ya! Charmin basic is too thin and not soft at all….I’ll never buy it again. I like the Charmin Ultra Soft or Ultra Strong. As far as Cottonelle goes the Cottonelle Ultra in the purple package is good too.

    • Renee

We don’t like it either. It’s almost like public restroom tissue. Very thin and you have to use more.

    • mizzy

Other than Charmin Ultra, we use Cottonelle.

  13. Susie

Wish these deals would come up for Cottonelle – Charmin clogs up our pipes for some reason. But an AMAZING deal for Charmin lovers!

    • Araaidan

Susie Charmin clogs our toilets too! Bought this basic Charmin on the last deal and although it is not as soft as other Charmin it flushes like a DREAM (I think it is even septic safe)!!! It’s single ply and also has little to none of that fuzz that’s typical of the soft TP. We quite like it!

      • Heather

        flushes well for us too!

  14. fawn

wow wish I had a staples near by.

On a totally different topic did my rite aid shopping last night and just a heads up for those rite aids that roll the ups rewards I guess corporate is cracking down and some time in the near future the cashier said they will no longer be able us the ups until 6am the fallowing day. (it states it in the fine print when you sign up but they haven’t been enforcing it) just wanted to let you know.

    • Valerie

You could order online or price match with Office Depot or Office Max.

      • fawn

to price match wouldn’t i need the ad? the $5 off coupon states in store purchase

        • Valerie

The staples I go to will price match if I print the Office Max or Office Depot flyer from the computer. Maybe your OM or OD will do the same. However, when I go online to view the Charmin Basics in the Staples Flyer, it shows the 9 rolls, not 16ct double roll. Also, OM and OD have coupons for $5 off a specific amount too, just google it.

    • Dee

it happened to me today, the cashier stated that I cant use my UP+ reward until the followong day…..TOTAL BUMMER

      • stacy

thats so lame.. ill just hide stuff in the store.. ba wa wa wa wwwwwwwwwwwwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

        • fawn

my hubby said the same thing and said well we can just go the first time at night and then early the next morning lol.

    • Heather

that is so dumb. I roll them right away so I don’t waste them

  15. Debra

Is this single ply or double ply?

    • Amy

      single

  16. Agnes

oh no….. if only I had a place to store all that I would go and get it but I have no place to put 5 huge bags of TP! great deal

    • Heather

put them under your bed, kids bed, attic steps. where ever

  17. Savannah

I have the $2/1 coupons so that would come out to like 9 cents a roll!!! SAWEET! Thank you!!

  18. Michelle Lopez

I get the staples advantage from work and we have two of the $10.00 off $10.00 or more I think this will work for this product. Im heading there right after work to see what i can do. If so this is a GREAT deal! THANKS

  19. Karin

Thanks!! I have $2/1 blinkie coupons, and I’ve been waiting for the great deals like this. 🙂

  20. Jessica

This is off topic but it anyone needs Enfamil GENTLEASE $5 coupons I have them & dont want them to go to waste but my son is on milk now.

Also, I have enfagrow premium coupons and samples.

    • katie

Im collecting baby stuff for my friend who is due in april. Would all the coupons and samples be bad/expired by then?

    • Sarah

Hey Jessica, my daughter uses enfamil gentalease and I could really use the coupons. E-mail me at SarahMA85 @ yahoo.com THANKS!!

    • jessie

I also use the Gentlease for my son! Coupons are hard to come by now for forumula! Would love if you shared some! Thanks! 🙂 JEssie jpalus13@gmail.com

  21. Heather

I buy this toilet paper and love it! I hope my Staples will stock enough. Also, it is double ply for those wondering. 🙂

  22. colleen

if you are crazy like me you figure out the cost per sheet. You can still get Scott cheaper then this with S & S through amazon. $15.95 delivered to your door for 20,000 sheets vs this deal which is $23.95 for 21,120 sheets. You need to look at more then cost per roll. These “double rolls” only have 264 sheets per roll. Scott has 1000

    • tma

thank you for the break down! i agree with you colleen 🙂 in my house, “you get what you get and you don’t throw a fit!”

    • Kristen

Thanks for the idea! I’m always trying to figure out a way to compare t.p. packages, because I agree that comparing by the roll can be very misleading. By the “square” is a great idea. (I’m always confusing myself by trying to compare it by the square meter or something, lol.)
Do you take into account double-ply vs. single-ply when calculating price per sheet? Just wondering because I’m thinking 1 square of Scott would be a lot less substantial than 1 square of a more plush two-ply.

      • Pam

With lots of kids through my home in one day, I prefer single sheets. They will use the same amount whether they are unrolling single or double extra soft. I can buy the big Scott rolls and have them last 2 days in my bathroom all the kids use. If I use the basic or Ultra Soft I can easily go through 2 rolls in one day! Much cheaper for me to find the deals on the large Scott rolls.

        • Kara

We are not picky about toilet paper in our house but we purchased the Scott 1000 roll at the last good CVS sale and it’s probably the first one I’ll put on the “do not purchase” list. It is sooo thin there is almost nothing to it. It’s like the worst public bathroom paper.
We got some Charmin basics this week with the CVS sale and I really like it, not too soft but it’s still sturdy. I’ll definately get it again, I like it better than the Cottonelle basic that’s at Wags too.
The easiest way (IMO) to determine what to pay for toilet paper is to look at the square footage on the package, for instance the 12 double rolls of Charmin basic I just got at CVS were 347 square feet. Move the decimal point over two spaces to determine the maximum you should pay for it, in this case $3.47. This is just a base formula, if you were to find a “nicer” kind for under that I would really stock up, or if you will only use the nicer kind you may need to pay a little more, but it’s a good starting point!

          • Kristen

Thanks, I forgot I had heard that suggestion before too 🙂
I think this t.p. is 584.5 square feet, so anything lower than $5.84 is a good price I guess.
Do you know if this strategy works for paper towels too? Or is there another “trick” for them?
            Thanks!

    • Erin

I bought Scott toilet paper one time and my husband told me not too anymore. I believe he said it felt like sandpaper. 🙂 He usually doesn’t complain about anything, and is very supportive of my couponing so this is one area I don’t make him compromise.

  23. TP Deal Lover =)

I am happy people are picky that means more for me. I wipe my B*TT with toilet paper so I dont care what ply it is. HAHA thanks Collin for posting I am headed to Staples right now =)

  24. Jamie

I have my staples gift card for $10 from one of the daily deals a while ago, so this is going to make for some CHEAP toilet paper! YEAH!! Thanks for everything!

  25. Angel

I always buy bath tissue at staples with my rewards from recycling ink cartridges. It is like getting free toiler paper and they always have really good deals, especially if you can pair it up with a staples coupon.

  26. Amy

I looked online and didnt see this as being on sale , is it just unadvertised ? Just wondering ?

    • Crissy

I looked at my ad online & it wasn’t listed, but they did have it in the store.

  27. stuffmart

Does Staples honor expired reward cards?

    • Roger

Up to each store manager’s discretion, but you wouldn’t find it in writing, anywhere. Mine is flexible. But you should inquire, and I’d suggest doing it face-to-face, rather than on the phone.

  28. Zee

Sounds like a good deal but if its too rough on my “arse” I will have to pass! Do not need the brush burns. LOL!

Thanks, Collin, for posting it though. 🙂

  29. dawn

My staples also has the 8 pack of Scott paper towel on sale for 4.99 and they had bounty paper towels on sale to I can not remember the price for those. So you might want to take your coupons and be on the look out for other great deals!

  30. CW

Just got my TP at Staples, thanks Collin! Who knew we could all have such an educated, ongoing, money saving conversation about toilet paper??!! 🙂

  31. mariposa brant

I called my Staples to verify this deal and they said that I could not use the $5 off $25 coupon on ‘instant savings’ deals as it states on the coupon. Unfortunately, this TP deal is an instant savings deal, so I can’t use the coupon. =(

  32. hsvmom3

Where all are you finding the $2.00 coupons? I can never seem to find good blinkies here in Huntsville, AL.

    • K

I found some at my local Smiths (affiliate of Kroger)

    • Madison

I saw one set up at my local Dillon’s but it has been out for awhile now. I’ve checked almost daily since Tuesday since I work around the corner and have yet to see it get refilled. =(

  33. Laura

I’ve tried just about every type of toilet paper except this one. My hubby is really picky and I think he may like this so I’m going to give it a try! Thanks Collin. You are the best 🙂

  34. cl8n82

we just got back from staples.. we found back in the supply row they had a book that had a $20 off 75 worth of cleaning/house supply coupon. So we ended up getting 13 packages of them, then used the $20 off and they also let us use the $5 off 25 and then used 4 of the .25/1.. ended up getting all 13 packages for 51.87. (5 packages we were picking up for my MIL)

  35. ella

I did this same deal but I had $2 coupons on any Charmin 9 rolls or larger. I only had two coupon I wish I had more but still great deal.

  36. Ashley

I bought four rolls, used 2- $1/1 coupons, and 1- $1/2 coupon then I bought some other misc. things that were on sale (sharpies, glue, etc) and then used the $5 off coupon. Woot woot!

  37. Tammy

    I have 20 of the 2.00 qs…ordered them on Ebay…now I just have to decide where I can do the most damage…CVS for the 10 back…or Staples…

    • Madison

It would be nice if people would stop taking coupons to profit off of on ebay. I hope the law starts to get involved on this whole buying/selling coupons thing. Just really ticks me off!

      • hsvmom3

I don’t mind them selling legit mfc from the weekly coupon inserts, but I get really upset at the ones selling coupons from tear pad, instore fliers and blinkies.

  38. Amy H.

Just wanted to point out that in my store they were labeled $6.99 on sale, but they still rang up at $5.99. I was able to get 2 packs of the TP, 3 packs of the Sharpies (on sale for $3 for 12 pack) and 4 packs of the stick glue (on sale for $1 for a 4 pack), and some Christmas envelopes on clearance for $1. Took the $5 off with the 5 off 25 coupon, and (2) 25 cent coupons, and paid $22 for everything after tax.

  39. Rachel

What a great start for a new year! CVS and Staples, I did the CVS deal dunno if i want to drive to do this deal for my relatives, hmmmmm. Then i can use the last of my 2$ off charmin coupons.

  40. dave k.

this is a great deal! only paying 8/10 of a penny per sq. ft. if you buy pampers, buy the boxes that are marked that have coupons inside of them. they’ve had a $1/1 charmin and it doesn’t expire until like 2013 LOL

  41. Jennifer

bought 2 packs of printer paper that they had the rebate on $5.99 -4.99 rebate= $1 and 2 packs of the toilet paper and couple other items to bring my total to $25 used my $5 off 25 coupon. Paid $20 after rebates I will only have paid $10. So less than $3 per item. I am happy because I was running low on those 2 items.

  42. Rie

If I have staple easy rewards credit, can I use it in conjunction with the $5/$25 andG MQ on this deal?

  43. leighangela

I went to Staples last night to buy a hard drive. It was on sale for $20 off “instant savings.” I took the $5 off coupon and it scanned fine.

  44. kristen

I did this same deal tonight only I paid $16 for 5 packages of the 16 count. I used the $5 off $25 purchase, then used 5 $2/1 charmin toilet paper. Worked like a charm with no glitches. Came out to be just .10 a roll. Pretty happy with that!

  45. Serena

I went to Staples to do this deal tonight and the cashier asked if it’s a good deal on toilet paper, because people have been buying it like crazy all day. I’m wondering if there are more H2Sers in my area. 🙂

  46. CrystalC

I had a $10 off of $10 for staples (got it in the mail) so I bought two, used the $.25 off coupons and ended up getting them for $.73 each!!! Great deal, thank you hip2save!

  47. Erica Mc.

I ran into those $2/1 any charmin blinkies back in early Dec and took three….boy do I wish I had gotten more!!!! I don’t know what the heck I was thinking! I went back to that store about 2 wks later and no more blinkie machine…I just figured the cycle was over…

I may have to run around looking for a blinkie machine to get some tomorrow…LAST thing I really want to do on a Sat …but cheap TP is worth it! 🙂

  48. Tricia Christiansen

If you have a Staples reward card, you can get up to four Avery brand 3-ring binders for 100% rewards. I purchased 4 new heavy-duty 3″ binders for $13.99 each. I will receive ALL of that money back in Rewards, so it was like they were FREE! This was a great deal as my current coupon binder was ripped and torn. I am a new one, and three replacements! 🙂

  49. redhairedchick

Didin’t bring the quarter coupons, but still got a pretty nice deal:
    5 Charmin Basic @ 7.99 ea = 39.95
    – $10 instant savings
    – $5 coupon
    – 10 % associate discount = $2.50 (one of my husband’s gaming buddies works at our local Staples, and was leaving work as we were walking in. He graciously offered to make the transaction his own, so we could receive his discount.)
    Total = $22.45
28 cents a double roll or 14 cents a single roll. Not too shabby! 🙂

    • dana

Had the $10 off $10 purchase and used it yesterday. Was going to get toilet paper but the fine print on back said it could not be used on items marked down or on sale. Didn’t want to hold up line( my store was VERY busy) so just bought regular priced items. This is what I got:
      1-Bounty paper towel 8pk
      1-case of bottled water
      4-bottles of windex
      2-packs of mechanical pencils
1-box of really nice resume’ envelopes
Paid $4.14 out-of-pocket! I didn’t think that was too shabby!

  50. Barb Scanlan Wyatt

If you had purchased $30 worth of the Charmin, there is a $10 rebate on a $30 PG puchase out not. You will have to search around either your stores or internet coupons sites to find or buy the form. Makes it even cheaper!!
