This is such a GREAT investment i must say it was the best thing me and my hubby did for our family. We are currently DEBT FREE except for the morgage we are building up our 6 month emergeny fund and then to tackle the house.

    • Jenny

Congrats! We will be DEBT FREE by the end of the year thanks to Dave Ramsey!

      • Mary

If you want to invest in this I would try Amazon for a better price. All you really need is the workbook and the book. I didn’t have the budgeting software, but have the CDs and never listened to them. I should probably sell them.

  2. Kellie

I have to agree with Jessica! It is a WONDERFUL investment. If you really want to get a handle on your finances, this is a MUST HAVE! (Dave Ramsey is also a resident of my sweet little town of Franklin, TN!)

  3. Vee

I agree his ideas are great. We are currently working to debt freedom as well. I just have a hard time paying that much for his ideas. I know everyone has to make a living. But the people I have known to buy his books and go to his seminars used credit to pay for it since it was expensive. Kind of defeats the purpose IMO. LOL But it is very helpful and gets you on the right track. We kinda tweeked his ideas and made it fit our household. You can google his steps and read them for free.

    • Linda

I don’t know if you can even pay for his stuff from his site with a credit card…I think they only take debit cards… Not positive, though.

      • Ashlee

Not sure about his website but when our church went to order the membership kits for his Financial Peace University class we led this past fall, a credit card could not be used to place the order.

    • Andrea

If you purchase items/tickets from Dave’s web site, it does not accept debit cards. If you purchase his products from a web site not endorsed or related to Dave’s site, then his company doesn’t have control over whether or not customers can use a credit card to purchase items. 🙂

Love Dave’s Financial Peace University and listen to his program each day. We’re debt free and are baby step number five.

      • Helen

This is not true, I have ordered from his site using a debit card. You can also use a credit card–their system has no way of distinuishing–but they ask you not to.

    • jackie

I know for a fact that Dave Ramsey does not accept credit cards as payment for anything. I have led several FPU’s over the past several years, and credit cards are not accepted. Debit cards or checks.

  4. Crystal

The BEST financial investment I ever made was doing the Dave Ramsey financial peace university. His plan works and we are debt free except for the mortgage.

  5. Christa

Love, love, love dave ramsey! Working his system has helped me drop thousands in debt.

    • Linda

We’re paying off our mortage today! Fifteen years early… Thanks to Dave! Woot!

      • Linda

        That makes us 100% debt-free.

        • Linda

I recommend you get his book from the library…there’s really no need to buy all the bells and whistles.

          • Mary

I totally agree. I spent too much money on the class, and you HAD to buy the books, CDs, etc. It was way too expensive. The only one who got “financial peace” out of that deal was Dave Ramsey.

        • Kristie

YEAH LINDA!!!! We are projected to pay off our mortgage in 2014 which will make us 100% debt free!!!! It is going to be one awesome day! Celebrating with you!!!!

          • Linda

Yay, you! 🙂 It’s so exciting. I need to go back and read the book again because, although we are debt-free, we need to be planning for our next vehicles. We own an incorporated business, so we get mileage back and that all goes into an account for a upkeep, repairs and purchase of a replacement when the time comes. We can often buy a new car cheaper than a used car because of my dad’s discount but we will definitely pay cash the next vehicle we buy, either way. We are putting a child through college with cash as well. 🙂

        • Michelle735

Love Dave! We have 3 kids, are in our late 30s and 100% debt free! Paid off the mortage in 12 yrs. He gives excellent advice!!!

      • Sheila

Way to go Linda! That’s awesome!

      • D

        CONGRATS!!!!!

      • Jessica

        WOW BIG CONGRATS!!

      • Jana

That is AWESOME! Congratulations!! (From a recent FPU grad=)

      • Jen

        Rock on… congrats!!

  6. Destiny

Dave Ramsey has literally changed my life and I am only 25 years! My husband and I started this program over a year ago and life is so much more PEACEFUL!!! You are never to young or to old to get your finances where you want them and he is such a great tool to get you on the right track!! LOVE HIM!!!

  7. ashley

This is a great program! I am working on it now to become DEBT FREE!!!!

  8. tracy

The only debt we have is our mortgage and I have never read any financial books. Rule #1, don’t buy everything they’re sellin’. Glad it has worked for some but the truth is, you just needed to believe you could do it to begin with.

  9. tilla ham

i have heard from a few friends this work, but it all seems like common sense to me…if I could just find that common sense and will power within me, I could do it without dave ha. Also, from what I understand, these are religious based, so if you are not religious, might not be for you.

    • Bonnie

Dave Ramsey has changed my life. You do not need to be religious to take advantage of his fantastic ideas. A lot of it is common sense but it would be helpful to read his book and utilize his website to maximize what you could accomplish.

    • Nicole

It’s all common sense.. but it’s a method of getting rid of the debt. Listen to the free podcast for awhile and you’ll figure it out quickly.

Dave is religious, but there’s nothing religious about his system of getting rid of debt.

  10. Jessica

Don’t forget about using Ebates too!! You can get 5% back of your purchase price.

  11. Tish

The best way way to save is just not to spend! Skip over all of these unnecessary “deals” – if something is on sale 70% off, you are still spending! Don’t buy it and you’ll save 100% 😛

    • Jana

I agree! One of the hardest things for me to overcome was “do I really need this?”. Previous me would of said “at the price? hell yeah I need it” But now, unless I was already planning on purchasing an item I pass on it.

      • Tomoko

        It’s So true.

    • cdawnt

I agree, BUT if it is something you may not need now, but will use in the future you’re better off getting it now at 70%+ off. The value of the dollar is dropping every day, despite the gov’t saying there is no inflation, but that is NOT true. Look at the price of food, clothes, everything is sky high. I refuse to go in a mall and pay those prices. The only debt I have is mortgages on my home and rental properties and when I see a good deal I jump on it if I can use it now or in the future.

      • Jana

you are right. I do always jump on what I call “basics deals”. Items that are non-perishable and items I truly will use. I run a business and usually the majority of price increases (for our industry) happens in the first quarter, primarily Jan. and Feb., and I have a bad feeling about inflation this year. In years past IF we get price increases is it usually 3-4% but right now I am seeing up to 10% increases on wholesale prices.

  12. carrie

I bought the stuff last year, and he has some good ideas. But I really don’t like carrying cash. The thing that I found most helpful (that I wasn’t finding anywhere else) were percentage targets of how much you should really be paying in certain categories. And I’m not sure that’s worth the $30ish I paid for it, personally. I didn’t find anything inherently wrong with it in any way though.

  13. laury

I read his book a few months ago and loved it. I wanted to go all cash but felt nervous about carrying that much cash. We put everything on credit cards and then pay them off at the end of the month but I know I would spend less if I paid in cash or kept track. I finally found the perfect system! I downloaded to my Iphone the app called Envelopes. It lets you make envelopes for each category and deposit money into them at set times and then withdraw when you spend. It is really just keeping track of what you are spending. It doesn’t really touch your money in the bank. I love it! I used it to keep track of how much I spent for each kid for Chanukah and made note on it as to what I bought so I wouldn’t duplicate. I find that just the act of entering what I spend in the app causes me to watch what I am spending and my spending has gone way down. It takes the envelope system that Dave talks about and just allows you to do they system without carrying all that cash. Check it out in the app store. They might also have it for android phones.

    • Mayra

That sounds like a really useful app. Do you happen to remember how much it cost?

      • Dorie

there are ones that are 99 cents and a free one that has a good rating too.

    • Destiny

I think that THE ENVELOPE APP is free!!! YAY!!! You are already saving money!

  14. Kari

Love Love Love his program! We dumped our home that was waaaayyyy beyond our means, took the profit and are now DEBT FREE!! We are currently enjoying our financial reset as we like to call it. Saving for the future and sitting on a nice emergency fund. It was a great marriage eye opener too! Love all of the inspirational stories too! Helps you feel not so alone in the dark hole of debt.

  15. D

But COLLIN, YOU are the one who has helped me become debt-free! Frugality is a way of life for me now that I know how to coupon. I CANNOT THANK YOU ENOUGH, especially since now my husband is losing his job this month and neither one of us can work due to illness AND we have a daughter who was born with special needs as well! I will never go back to my old spending habits and this has helped my family immensely! Thank you for ALL YOU DO!!!!

  16. Danielle

I have read both My Total Money Makeover and Financial Peace. They are wonderful books and have excellent, PRACTICAL information to get out of and stay out of debt. We got out of debt twice using his principles and decided to stay out the last time. I would highly recommend this set!

  17. Lyndsie

Just bought it… great deal! Love Dave! I borrowed my mil’s copy of “Dumping Debt” and literally told my hubby yesterday that I wanted to rewatch it, just to remind ourselves. He just started a new job that is a huge, wonderful change financially. Had our first baby in August (boy, are they ever spendy!!) . . . so excited to get this and get started!! Thanks Collin! Love h2s! I tell everybody I can about it!!

  18. Melanie W.

Love Dave Ramsey.. with this years tax return my husband and I will be completely out of debt except our home with an emergency fund and onto saving as much as we can for our kids/retirement at 22 and 25 years old.. =D Will never use credit for anything again

  19. Morganne

Love Dave Ramsey. My hubby’s parents gifted all their children the Lifetime Membership too the FPU (we went to the 12wk course, and can go back at any time to any class forever). We have always been frugal, but going through the course together really put us on the same track, gave us some tools to realize spending habits and we are down $18,000 of debt, 2 cars (we now own them!), 3yrs away from paying off our mortgage. This is after 2yrs of hard work, budgeting and we only make $32,000 a yr. We are 30 and 24yr old with two kiddos. I would say this is the best thing that has ever happened to us!

    • Linda

      Way to go, Morganne!

  20. ckoscoe

    Love Dave Ramsey! 🙂

  21. Kristi

Not sure about the cash idea…We never have cash. We use 2 credit cards for everything. We do however pay them completely off at the end of the month. We even have all of our monthly bills put onto our card. I know this is not for all people, but if you can train yourself to do this and pay them off it is financially beneficial. I say this because at the end of the year we then cash in all of our points or cash back and spend nothing on Christmas. We use only gift cards that have been earned through our purchases during the year. We always make sure we sign up for the 5% every quarter and know what card we need to use where. I have always been one of those that if I have cash, I spend it! With the credit card I have a harder time using it because I know that I am going to have to come up with that money at the end of the month. I have really likesd using the credit cards because it seems that our most expensive time of the year has always been the holidays, but having the rewards program we don’t have to come out of pocket with it. This is just how we do it. I would however love to have a budget which we don’t. I know that there are many areas that we could cut back on.

    • Linda

We used to do that, too, but I spend much less money with cash than with plastic. We use a credit card that gets 1% or 5% for business, which we use for Christmas gifts and added groceries. Practically free gifts! 🙂

    • cdawnt

Kristi, We do the same thing. We pay off the credit cards in full. You wouldn’t believe all the free airline tickets we have gotten the past 20 years by doing it that way. Italy, Grand Cayman, Cabo, Jamaica, Cozumel, St. Thomas, I could go on and on. I can’t stand to use cash because then I don’t know where it went! Seems odd to a lot of people but using the credit card works best for us. I’ve been an E-bay shopper, but haven’t had time to do that anymore. I am so glad I found this website a couple of months ago, but it is addicting, I can’t stand not knowing what may be on sale. I also clip coupons, I’ve done that since I first got married 29 years ago, but now I’ve figured out how much better they can be when you are creative! Thank you so much Collin 🙂

      • Amy

Maybe she wanted to be able to give one as a gift. 🙂

  23. Amber

This is the BEST program. We are debt free and will have our mortage paid off in less than 15 years and our children are only 5 and 3. Hopefully our house will be paid off before they graduate from high school. THIS PROGRAM IS WORTH EVERY PENNY!!! It is not easy or fun (at first) but soooo worth it.

  24. Ashley

has anyone taken one of his classes? it looks like there are a couple going on at some churchs close to me

    • ckoscoe

We took the class, and it really helped having a ‘community’ to talk to about debt issues, obstacles, etc. I think it was worth the investment.

  25. Megan

To give to a friend/family member, donate or sell on line. Why not?!

  26. Mary

I took the Financial Peace class last year and although the videos are entertaining, I personally didn’t take away much. It was NOT money well spent. That being said you could probably find the book on Amazon cheaper. I have the CDs and never listened to them, and “the envelope system” are just envelopes. I would check around before buying this deal. It seems to me Dave Ramsey is the one getting “financial peace” out of all this.

  27. Rachel C.

LOVE LOVE LOVE Dave Ramsey!! We just started and I am so in love with it! We barely make ends meet, but we are slowly making better financial decisions, thanks to his Total Money Makeover book. BEST INVESTMENT EVER!! DO IT!!

  28. E

Unfortunately, the people that most need this program, think they know all and won’t even take one smidge of info away. I’m 22, married. We own both of our vehicles, have a well established emergency fund and have never had one dollar of debt. We pay for our usefull bachelor’s degrees in cash. We eat organic, wholesome foods. We never eat out. We both work full time and have since we were 16. We take a fun vacation every year, and do fun things with our friends, in moderation. We are saving for a nice big down payment on a house. We also have a nice savings account. Now, nearly all of our friends are drowning in debt. 50-100 thousand in school debt for useless degrees (I mean, acting, really???). They all have very nice vehicles they can’t afford. They go out drinking every weekend. Shop at the mall all the time. There’s no moderation. I bought them each a copy of FPU for either graduation or wedding…they all “don’t have time for it” Whatever. We’ll be millionaires, comfortablely enjoying our lives with the kids. They won’t. Simple as that.

    • e

And before some calls me high and mighty or something, it just makes me sad knowing that one day they’ll be stressed to the max with finacial trouble…

Sorry for typos in both, I’m on my phone.

      • c

I have never known anyone to pay for a specialized degree (i.e. doctor, masters of anything, culinary school…acting) without some form of student loans. Even suzie orman says that student loan debt is not off limits. As far as what they choose to go into I think that is a completely personal choice that should be based off of passion and not what is going to pay you the $$. So, while I agree with most of what you said I just wouldn’t knock anyone for their schooling.
Also, there was no way I could have ever afforded my tution in cash up front, but I do think that after you have a job you need to live in such a way that you can pay that schooling off.

      • Linda

E, you go, girl! When my husband was a staff sergeant, he wondered why all his peers had two nice, new cars, went on vacation, had the newest everything…they were maxed out on multiple credit cards. That’s not how we were raised. That’s not how we lived. We are debt-free and have tons of money leftover to play with–within the means of our simple lives. Like your friends, ours will be miserable drowning in debt!

  29. e

I should clairify, getting a medical degree or law degree is different. That’s a high paying degree that costs a TON of money. But a BA in Acting? Ridiculous, that’s what a minor is for. A major is to make you money, a minor is for passion. Why not get a business degree with a minor in acting, that way you have skills that are usefull in a work enviroment. OR, even better, your teacher’s certificate, that way you can teach acting! And what’s wrong with working your way thru school? That’s how we do it, sure we aren’t graduating in 4 years, but we are graduating owing no money! And here’s another tip on how to save money, go to an instate school.

Linda: Thanks for your guys’ service! Isn’t it nice to be comfy?

  30. Innchik

I love love LOVE Dave Ramsey. For those of you who are saying that Dave Ramsey is the only one who is having “Financial Peace” with selling his books is wrong. He’s not making you buy the book, you can rent it at the library, But Having the books in handy gives you the oppurtunity to go back and look up or refresh your memory on the steps. I have the books, I have went to his FPU classes and Do not regret it one Bit. Thanks to this Program and listening to his Pod Casts I have paid off all my debt except the mortgage and have saved up some monday. I’m 25 and Single. And Not alot of people can say that they are in this Financial situation. Change your family tree, or better yet, give this gift for someone else.

    • Mary

Glad it worked for you. I also took the class through my church and we HAD to buy the books through the program so the whole thing cost $100.00. I did not feel it was worth that much money when I could have bought the book for much less. My children are through with college, we have retirement accounts, and life insurance so a lot of it was not applicable to me. There is a lot of good info and I think every younger person would benefit. For me spending $100.00 certainly did not bring me any financial peace. I would have gotten more out of it if I were at a different stage in my life.

  31. Danny

I don’t get why you pay for this stuff. Really, just sit in a room to listen to stuff that I can get for free on the internet and I’m only 22 yrs old, has no one ever heard about the internet before?
