Yeah! This offer is available again…snag an introductory box for just a penny!

If you’re a fan of Birchbox or would like to spoil yourself this month (and for many months to come?!), then you may want to check out Julep Maven. As a Julep Maven, you’ll have access to the hottest trends in nail color and the latest Mani Care and Pedi Care products – delivered right to your doorstep.

Here’s how it works…

* Head over here and take the Julep Maven Style Quiz (this should just take a few minutes). This quiz enables Julep Maven to determine which style of magazine editor you most resemble and in turn, Julep will choose the Sneak Peek Box that contains personally selected products that best compliment your look.

* Every Sneak Peek Box will feature over $40 worth of NEW, never released, trendy polish colors and cutting edge treatments. Your box will also include hits and cult favorites. However, January’s box will contain $40+ worth of products. And here’s the best part, enter the promo code NEWYEAR2012 during checkout and you’ll snag this intro box for just $0.01 shipped! Please note that this offer is limited to first first time Mavens only.

* Keep in mind that by signing up for January’s box, you are signing up to receive boxes on a monthly basis from Julep Maven (after this first month’s box is sent for just $0.01, your monthly cost will be $19.99 for $40 worth of products). You will be notified by email on the 20th of the month with a preview of the products they’ve customized for your next month’s beauty editor Box. If you are not interested in receiving that month’s box, you can opt to either skip the month (just login to ‘My Account’ by midnight PST on the 25th of the month and select “Skip the Month”) or you can choose to send your beauty editor Sneak Peek Box as a gift to a girlfriend, sister, coworker, or anyone you would like (just login to ‘My Account’ by midnight PST on the 25th of the month and select “Send My Box to a Girlfriend”).

* Julep Maven will bill your credit card on the 27th of the month and your Sneak Peek Box will be shipped that same day. You’ll need to allow 7-10 days for your box to arrive.

* If, for whatever reason, you do not want to continue to be a Julep Maven, you can cancel your membership, free of charge by calling one of the Maven Experience agents at 877.651.3292 Monday – Friday 9am-5pm PST.

Does that mean you can cancel after the first order?

  2. ebony

Im wondering about this too, I am pretty forgetful so I would want to call and cancel probably right after I get the box…

  3. Hotmamajj

I am wondering the same thing.

  4. Amanda

Keep in mind if you wish to cancel you HAVE to call them to cancel, there is online cancel button.

    • Amanda

Er i meant “there is NO online cancel button” spoke too soon!

      • thelostpond

I just signed up, and I logged in after to see my order, and there is a cancel button right under “update shipping info”.

        • mel

that’s to cancel your order, not your membership. for that you have to call (or email them)

        • Amanda

          What Mel said.

    • cdawnt

I’ll have to pass on this one. They want to get you on the phone so they can talk you into buying more and the way I am I’m sure they would talk me into it.

  5. Jill

I’m confused….took the quiz and was given a style….now what? where is the january box? 🙂

  6. Kat

I didn’t like the one they suggested for me, so i picked a different style…glad that was an option.

  7. Heather

Just ordered mine! Can’t wait to get it. I am sure I will cancel after I receive it though. Don’t want to pay $20 per month, for sure!

  8. Jill

Anyone else having trouble with the payment?

    • Jackie

Yes, it’s telling me there was an error processing my card. I’ve tried a few times, not sure what the problem is, or how to fix it.

  9. DEB

Did you guys also get charged $1.90 for tax. That seems high.

    • Jennifer

I can’t say for sure, but you probably are being charged tax on the original cost of the item, not the sale price. Looks like a 9.5% tax. HTH 🙂

  10. Jill

It says my CC (debit) was declined but they’ve taken out they taken out $3+ from my bank account and I have no confirmation….

  11. mel

when I did this last month, it showed up $1.90, but after I went through the order, it took off the tax before submitting.

IMO – I was not all that impressed. I got 2 nail polish colors, which 1 was pretty, the other (purple!) I might wear on my toes during the summer. They state they last longer, but I did not find that the case, even after applying a clear top coat to the rose colored polish. My nails started peeling a few days later. Also, instead of the Pomegranate scrub that was supposed to be included, I got a hand lotion and 2 samples of a glycerin hand scrub.
I *might* order 1 more box after I save up a little money, just depends on what they are offering b/c $20 is kinda high esp when I am used to getting Revlon free at the drug stores!

    • Melinda

Have to say I agree-for 1 cent, you can’t beat it, but I would have been upset had I paid $20. I guess I don’t buy “top of the line” beauty products very often, but I don’t see how 2 nail polishes, 1 hand cream and 2 samples has a value of $40.

    • sherryann11

Mel, the same thing happened to me. I’m Not happy. I got a age defying hand brightener. what am i going to do with that?

      • SM

Their “sign up/introductory box” is different from the monthly box. That’s why you received the hand brightener instead of the pomegranate scrub…

        • Lorri

I agree! I signed up for this back in December when it was first offered. Very excited about getting $40 worth for a penny! Well, when it came, it was two nail polish and one hand cream. One of the nail polish colors was a dark emerald green, that I personally would never wear. It wasn’t anything like the colors I had listed as ones that I would like. It was fun for a penny, but if I would have know this was what I was getting, I would not have bothered. I actually gave the items away. HTH

  12. beth

Ha–their choices included a yellow nail polish. Who at 56 wears yellow nail polish?

    • Jill

      Real Housewives of NYC? 😉

    • Jen

I would!! My mom wears funky colors and looks super cool @ 56! Live on the crazy side Beth! It may be fun :O)

    • Deb

      I’m with ya, Beth.

  13. ana

I don;t get this! After my quiz, I was offered a $19.99 set. Did not see any ‘january’. The only ‘january’ I see is one of the nail polishes.

    • Brittany Fisher

All of them are going to $19.99 – these are the different options as your january box. Pick one and put it in your cart. Then apply the code and it goes down to .01.

  14. Samantha

You can email them if you want to cancel. I cancelled after my first box with a short email, and they quickly responded back!

    • Jin H

What is the email address to cancel?

  15. D.G

and another promotion that declined my amex card. Erg, this is getting frustrating… 🙁

    • thelostpond

Do you have a minimun finance charge of $1.00? Some of my cards do. Two declined me because of that.

  16. Gina

super easy to cancel, they do not hassle you, but I was charged for my second month before I received my first months box- just keep that in mind.

  17. Jen

I was told that in January Julep was going to have Oscar boxes and some lucky individuals will get boxes w/over $100 bucks worth of cool stuff! I’m in for January!!!

  18. ana

Where can I find the January Julep box? This is driving me crazy. I keep getting offered the Classic w/ a twist (even though I choose different answers) and in the main page I can find the sneak peek box 🙁

    • Brittany Fisher

Those are the different options for a january box. They have different options based on your style. You just have to pick one.

  19. Asia

Ana-You can pick a different box if you want. Whatever you pick becomes January’s box. You have to enter the promo code NEWYEAR2012 at checkout to brink it to $1.91, then pick free standard shipping and it will go down to $0.01.

  20. rosiediscovers

I signed up the last time this was posted here end of December…and after emailing, posting on their facebook page and having to call twice they finally shipped my package. I’m definitely cancelling as soon as it gets here. From what I’ve read this happens to people who have been subscribers for a while all the time. Horrible service. Definitely DO NOT recommend.

  21. Anita Myers

What a fun treat, thank you Collin!

  22. Madeleine

My box from last month never arrived. What should I do?

  23. Jess

I got the American Beauty box last time this was offered. I love the box. You do have to call to cancel, but here’s a trick: When you call, DON’T choose cancellation from the menu. That’ll force you to leave a message. Choose anything else and it’ll take you to a real person who will cancel your order. The woman I spoke with was very pleasant and cancelling my order was no big deal. I really like the contents of the box I got, but I don’t think it’s worth $20. Even if I didn’t use coupons I don’t think I could justify the cost. For a penny, though, it was totally worth it.

  24. Claudia

I ordered the last time this was posted and was totally dissapointed with the colors, in fact I gave them to a friend. They were colors that I would never wear even though that was what they came up with after the quiz “classic with a twist”. And I think $20 is way too much to pay for two nail polishes and a hand cream, let alone $40 like they say it is actually worth! I still haven’t cancelled, but I will be calling them on Monday!

    • Jess

The box that the quiz chose for me was hideous. They were colors I would never wear. I just don’t like light colored nail polish. I chose a different box, though, and was happy. I wouldn’t pay full price, but for a penny I was happy.

  25. Rebecca

So would we have to cancel before the 25th of this month so that we don’t get charged for the next box?

  26. Jacqueline Torres Melfort

Worked like a charm! I didn’t even get charged tax!

  27. Ashlee

    yeah mine came up .01

  28. Carmen

I know this is off topic but didnt know where else to post. im throwing my 13 yr niece a glow in the dark black light birthday party…and was wondering if anybody had any 15 off 30 hot topiccoupons they werent using?. ivenever shopped there but they have some cool glow in the dark fingernail polishes that i kno my niece and her friends would love…. thank you!!!!

  29. Olivia

This seems like a good deal, but a few of the people who have commented seemed to have some difficulties so I am going to pass it up.

On top of that, I took the quiz…got classic with a twist and I did not like one of the polishes, so I am going to pass on this deal.

Thanks anyway, Collin! I appreciate it 🙂

  30. Michelle Keim

I bought this last time …. I am Super Happy with the polishes and hand cream! Never even heard of them before. I have had the purple on for about 5 days now…NO CHIP’n so far. The purple is an amazing color. I have like 100 bottles of polish and dont have this purple. Im pleased, hope this helps someoone.

  31. Nel

Fun! I went with the boho because its totally outside my standard red or pink! Thanks Collin!

  32. kema

Welp don’t take Discover, so I won’t be Discovering anything more about them.

  33. semiextremecouponer

I got this box in December and like the colors. However, the polish chipped within a day and the lotion does not seem effective. I believe our “free” drugstore polishes and Burt’s Bees lotions are just as good.

    • Jess

The polishes seem better to me than the super cheap stuff, but they chipped quickly for me, too. I always thought that was because I was rough on my hands, but maybe not.

      • Donna Mc.

I tried both polishes and they both chipped a lot in under 24 hrs. To me that’s not even worth one penny… because it has wasted my time. Time to polish my nails, then deal with the chipped polish and then time to take it all off and find time to repaint my nails again. It’s NOT WORTH IT. This polish is the worst ever. No polish should chip this much in under 24 hrs.

  34. Fiza

I just ordered the ” It Girl “

  35. Zadidoll (@zadidoll)

It’s a great deal BUT here’s the thing. If you order this now your first box will indeed be 1 penny BUT if you don’t cancel within the next 11 days (by the 25th) OR SKIP the month you WILL be charged $19.99 PLUS tax (if applicable in your state). I’m in WA state so I’m hit with 8.3% tax since Julep is also in WA state making this subscription service a little under $22 a month for me.

I’m a moderator at a beauty community called Make Up Talk, and some members have had a hard time cancelling so they ended up skipping each month. Many members had to “trick” the system to get to a live person to cancel which is a pain since it seems sketchy that if you follow the prompts to cancel you never reach a live person.

One last thing I like to point out, I like Julep’s polishes, very pretty, BUT the amount you get is about HALF the size (0.27 fl. oz) of say OPI or China Glaze (0.50 fl oz). Each Julep polish individually retails for $14 each which makes their polish MORE expensive than OPI (retails for $8 to $8.50 each) or China Glaze (typically retails for $5.99 each). Depending on the month and the style a person may get between one to four polishes in their box (and depending on the month and box there maybe other items in the box like foot or hand scrub, top coat, base coat, etc).

Is it worth it in the long run? In my opinion no. The 1 cent deal is FANTASTIC but it’s for NEW members only. I love the colors they offer but I rather buy China Glaze, OPI or from the drugstore Wet ‘n’ Wild ($0.99 to $3.99) or Sinful Colors ($0.99 to $1.99) and depending on the sale, rebates, coupons, etc those can even be scored for free.

  36. Lara

i ordered the nail polish set, the colors look pretty, never tried their polish before, i dont need hand creams, so it worked out, got it down to 1 cent! Thank you, and ty all for your comments was very helpful!

  37. Robin

Also if you read in your email when 2 friends sign up you get a free month!! Woo hoo Keep ing mind items are subject to change depending on availability.

  38. Melissa

I see you can do a color pull AFTER you receive the colors and decide you don’t like them, is there anyway to do one Before if you KnOw wou wont like them? I kind of despise at least one color in each set :/ if anything I figure I can always gift the color I find less desirable to someone who will appricate it more. Thanks for the post Colin. and just a random btw what the heck is HTH?

  39. Diane

My penny has been credited back to my account & I received an email saying a credit was coming but no explanation. Anyone else?

    • Robin

Ya that happened to me too. Working on figuring that out.

  40. amy

Got mine a few days ago, love the colors! Also, I got a piece of dark chocolate with it. Yum 🙂 Thanks!
