Earlier this month, I posted about Viggle, a FREE app for the iPhone, iPod Touche, or iPad that rewards you for watching TV regularly. I was amazed at all the positive comments and emails that I received and so I thought that it was worth mentioning again…

If you watch TV on a regular basis and own an iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad, you may want to download the Viggle App. With Viggle, you will earn points just for watching your favorite TV shows and can then redeem your points for rewards! Some of the rewards include FREE music downloads, Fandango movie tickets, gift cards to stores/restaurants like CVS, Target, Chili’s, Starbucks’, Best Buy, Old Navy, Burger King, Sephora, and lots more!

Check out some of the comments and emails that I have received since posting about Viggle last week…

Viggle rocks. Since you posted about it we already have gotten 2 $5 Target cards and 1 $5 CVS card. Although it looks like the CVS cards were out for now. Guess we watch too much TV. :)Thanks so much!!

I’ve been using the app since the day after its release and have earned over $75 in just 2 weeks. They have specials on different gift cards, the first few days it was amazon for 4,000 points and yesterday they offered best buy for 4,000 for $5. So you should watch out for specials if there is a certain gift card you want. Best app ever.

I started using Viggle less than 72 hours ago and I already have 16,400 points! Tonight is the first night I’ll be home during prime time to get bonus points so I’m really excited about that. Aiming for that $25 Amazon gift card to add to my Christmas fund. Thanks so much for posting about this, I never would have found it on my own! I do love that I can do it on my iTouch as I don’t have a smart phone so there are a lot of point earning apps I can’t get.

How about you?! Have you used Viggle yet?

(Thanks for the reminder, Roy!)

  1. Go Get Your "Coup" On

I downloaded the app onto my iPod Touch 2nd Generation when you posted about it, but nothing happens when I click the “Check In” button… maybe I am doing something wrong, or maybe my iPod is too old??

    • Susan

it said Iphone 4 was required

    • Susan

Someone in the other post said that they had to plug their headphones in to a microphone to get it to work with an itouch.

      • Rachael

You probably need the 4th generation b/c it has a mic built in

    • Christine

I have the newer Ipod touch and it looks like the thing is scanning the TV show and listening to the sound to check you in? So try that….but looks like you can manually put shows in too? Not sure if you need latest Ipod or not.

    • Kaitlyn

I just bought cheap earbuds with a microphone at Wal-mart. Then, I was able to get the app to work on my 2nd generation iPod touch.Sometimes I have to check in manually since it won’t recognize the show that is on.

  2. Kayla

Is there anything like this for a andriod? This sounds fun!!

    • Michelle

I was wondering the same thing.

    • Susan

Not yet, but they are expecting to have it next month.

      • Michelle

Thanks for the info, Susan. That’s exciting news!

    • dee blair

i read next month an adroid app is due out

    • marycouponer

I was going to ask the same question! 🙂
      we are missing out 🙁

    • SJ

Cool…… let’s get that announced when it happens!!!! Can’t wait.

  3. Valerie L.

I already got a $5 CVS card, but I’m now saving up points for the BIG prize, the Kindle…I’ll probably cave before I reach it and buy some more gift cards though. 🙂 I love this App, by far my favorite one! 🙂

    • sne3103

I’m saving up fro the Kindle too, Valerie!

    • Patrick

It’s not economical to buy the kindle directly. if you use your points to get amazon gift cards (out of stock now, but viggle promises more are on the way), you can make more money in gift cards to buy a kindle and spend less points. Just a tip!

      • Penny Cothran

that was my thinking, but the second i was able to buy the amazon gift card, they were out… glad to hear they are coming back because i want to save enough to buy the kindle fire and not just the regular kindle…. just a thought… to get the kindle fire you would need 280000 (just 105000 more than the regular kindle they have for 175000)… just a thought… i cant wait til the oscars!!!!!!!!!!

  4. Lupita

I’ve been using this app for about 5 days and have about 10,000 points. I’m waiting for a Deal on a GC that I want before I redeem my points. And that’s that we really don’t watch tv all that much. I just have to remember to be checking in after the end of each show.

  5. dee blair

are you placing the ipod next to the tv when you hit check in?….the app uses voice recognition software…after you check in the screen will picture the show you check into and nothing else. I didnt think it was working on my ipod either cause my points werent updating. I have to sign out then back in to see the points move but it does work…try checking into a how let it go till over then sign out and then back in…check to see if your points are higher

  6. Boomonk@optonline.net

They said that the android app was coming up in another month or so!!!

  7. Susan

What is you DVR shows. Does it still work?

    • susie

The FAQs say it will work, but I’ve only had it work about half the time. It seemed like if I watched the show any later than the next day, it wouldn’t recognize it.

      • Susan

can you link to to the FAQs? I can’t find them

        • susie

They’re within the app – it’s on my iPad at home and I’m at work so I can’t walk you through it and I don’t remember 🙂 Try the About Us section?

    • Susan

I think that’s something they’re trying to iron out still.

  8. Mb

I got it last week it’s great my hubby got me a new phone yesterday it’s a htc inspire I don’t think it’ll work I’m gonna keeP using my iPhone bc I’ve already over half way to 15 target yahoo

  9. Smellyann

I don’t have that many points, just 4205, but I don’t watch any TV – that’s all from watching ads and answering trivia in the app! So not too bad for no TV time… 🙂

  10. Carol

Warning, this app is totally addicting! I haven’t cashed in my points yet. I always seem to miss the great specials on gift cards. A few glitches, I did not get all my points from the Grammy live event for example, but hopefully will see those points soon.

  11. Karina

I only think it works when a show is actually on the live tv. It corresponds with each channels schedules. HTH!

  12. jean

Too bad that when you go to redeem anyAmazon giftcertificate that you get from them it comes up as used.

    • Misty

This is a fairly new app so give them time to iron everything out! I love this app and do sometimes have trouble with checking in but overall it is great!

    • Claudia

This happened to me, too! Still waiting to hear a response from Viggle. I really hope that they will make it right.

      • emma

        This happened to me too.

        • bali

yeah i read that on their facebook site! I’m hoping they’ll send you guys new codes soon!

  13. Kaitlyn

To the person with the second generation IPod- make sure your headphones have a microphone, too. Then the app with work.

I read about Viggle here last week & since that time I have reached 37,000 pts. I got most of my points during the Grammy Live telecast. The final question was worth 2,000 pts. They are going to do their next live even during the Oscars on Feb. 26.

I was saving for the $25 Amazon gift card and this week it is no longer available so guess I am going to go for the 175,000 point Kindle (which last week was showing 150,000 points). Fun and addicting app.

    • Cindy

The company has mentioned on Twitter and Facebook that it will restock Amazon gift cards. Honestly, you’d be better off getting the gift cards. It will take far fewer points to use the gift cards to buy a Kindle than to redeem 175,000 points for one.

  14. Cindy

I’ve been using it for just over a week. I’ve redeemed a $25 Amazon gift card and am close to redeeming another one (as soon as Viggle restocks them). It’s easy to earn a lot of points fairly quickly, but everyone should keep in mind that if you cash out $600 or more in a calendar year, Viggle will send you a 1099 form and you’ll have to claim the money as earnings on your taxes.

    • Kaitlyn

Thanks, Cindy. I was hoping that they will restock them soon. So you haven’t had any problems with your card code as Jean noted above?

I read that the limit of gift cards/prizes per year is $550.

      • Cindy

I didn’t have any problems with the code on Saturday. Maybe I was one of the lucky ones.

    • sne3103

Cindy, is the $25 amazon Giftcard option no longer there? I don’t see it in the rewards section…

      • emma

I also had an issue with the gift code. They sent it to me at midnight. When I entered it at 8am it said it had been used by someone else.

      • Cindy

        It disappeared on Sunday.

  15. Jessica

It works with dvr as long as the show is recognized with their sound thing. You can’t type it in. It works with the touch, I just put that it was the iphone 4 since mine is the same generation, it more matters if you have the right OSI
I love this app, I can have it going more than I do as the kids seem to have the tv on all day but I get busy and don’t check in. It is a great way to earn points and money from something that is already there.

  16. Kaitlyn

Cindy, I read that the limit of gift cards/prizes per person is $550.

    • Cindy

The FAQ says one thing, but they posted something different on Twitter or Facebook (can’t remember which one at the moment). Maybe someone from the company will come along and clarify this.

  17. Julie

I just redeemed for the $5 dollar Burger King gift card and paired with the BOGO Chicken sandwiches = free lunch for hubby and I.

    • Brit

Thanks! That was super helpful. I’ve been wondering what happens if I check into more than one show at a time.

  18. stephanie

I already redeeemed a $5 cvs card and loved using it during the Grammy’s– I earned over 2,000 points just from “playing along” where I answered trivia questions. They did the same thing for the superbowl, so can’t wait to play during oscars and other events. The bonus points in the evening is where I get points fast– just make sure you’re checked in for at least 10 minutes to get the bonus, as I flip back and forth quite a bit.

  19. cassandra

i love this app. in a little over a week i earned 35,000 points. this is the best point earning opportunity out there! i’m glued to my phone now. thank you for sharing this!

  20. Nikki

Love this app and YES it is very addicting. The best thing is that when you redeem your rewards, you get it immediately.

  21. Brit

I got a $5 Starbucks Gift card after 6 days… mostly thanks to the Grammy bonus points. I’m thinking this app will fee my coffee addiction quite nicely. That way I can use Swagbucks and such for those amazon giftcards for the Christmas stash 🙂 I definitely recommend this app since it’s such an easy way to earn giftcards. I mean, who doesn’t watch TV anyway? So why not benefit your pocket from it?

    • deb

did you have any issues using your Starbucks card? also it said something about a challenge key code, just wondering what that was?

  22. Kenia

This app is so fun. My daughter likes to check in and we both like answering the trivia questions. I haven’t cashed in for any gift cards yet but will soon. I have around 10,000 points too. By far, it is the easiest app to accumulate points with!!

  23. Shea

I started using Viggle the first time Collin posted about it. I have over 12,000 points now! I played along with the grammy’s and earned 7,000 points!! I am just a casual TV watcher, but it is fun to be rewarded for the TV that i DO watch! I’m saving up for an Amazon gift card!

  24. cecilia

Im really excited about this, I just put this on my ipad and been looking at the faq’s..but does anyone know if we can use the ipad or whatever device for something else, or does the device have to stay on viggle?
also I am thinking that I can leave my tv on while I am out for my dogs instead of the radio and get points…awesome!!

  25. lade

Thanks, I have not stopped using this since your 1st post. It is like a game with WONDERFUL, USEFUL prizes. My best app!

  26. Christine b.

I loved this app so much I made my husband download it to. That way he can cash his points in for things he wants. After about a week I have 18,000 points. I completely forgot to check in last night 🙁 But with kids home most of the time, I am constantly able to log into a variety of kid shows. LOVE IT!

  27. Tina Y

I just started using the app… Do you have to watch the entire show for it to work? And does the app need to be open while watching? One more question, can I watch something on my DVR, at a different time, will that count as points?

    • Jessica

You do not have to watch the entire show. Just check in & it will give you the points for the entire show at the end of the show as long as you haven’t checked into another show during that time. & no you don’t have to have the app open the whole time. If you have allow it to “push” notifications to you, you will get a notification when the show is over and how many points you earned. I usually check in to show after show all night long whether I am watching tv or not. I jst make sure at the top of the hour or half hr (however long the show is) that I check into another. I haven’t tried DVR. There are posts above about this. I usually just check into a live show then go watch my DVR shows. I also try to find a long movie or something right before bed (the longer the show the more the points) & check into it right before I go to bed. The other night I checked into the 3 hour movie HELL BOY right before I went to sleep so for 3 hours of sleeping I was earning points. 🙂

    • Janie

You don’t have to watch the entire show, just check-in. You can only check-in to one show at a time. If it’s at 8, check-in, then at 9 you will get a pop-up saying you earned so many points for watching whatever show.

  28. Samantha

I am ALWAYS using this app. I redeemed 22500 points on Saturday for 3 $5 Chili’s gift cards that I was able to use all in one transaction, in addition to the coupon they send when you sign up for their email notifications – free queso & chips.

And I’m back up to 25000 points. Definitely going to keep racking the points up and wait until the Amazon gift cards are restocked.

  29. Janie

I LOVE this app! Have had it for two weeks and I have redeemed for a CVS GC & a Target GC.

  30. Jessica

I LOVE this. My hubby and I both use it. He is working nights and I am on days so we have a friendly competition to see who can get the most points. During the Grammy’s they did a Live Trivia deal where you earned points for anwsering different questions about the stars on the show & the commercials they showed. It was so much fun for me and my hubby to do together as we watched the Grammy’s. Plus we both earned almost 7,000 points just for playing the Live Trivia. We are hoping they do more of these as we really had a great time!

I am saving up my points to hopefully get the Kindle. I downloaded this when you posted this late last week and already have 18410. If I average around 20,000 a week that’s 80,000 points a month. I should have the Kindle in 2 in a half months!

    Thanks, Collin!

    • Kaitlyn

Jessica- I think they are going to do the Live Trivia again during the Oscars on Feb. 26.

  31. Kim

I agree this is AMAZING. I have gotten 2 $15 Target cards and have 59,000 to redeem for more things. Just as a side note I have had some issues getting my rewards because it gives me an error. So I have emailed the company (quick responses most times) and they have unlocked my account so I can redeem my points.
Quick things to do before you leave for work, check into the Today show (400+ points) at night check into a movie before you go to bed so you get points while you sleep.

  32. Lynne

will they give points if you have to enter manually? I’ve tried entering shows today on my ipad2 and I’m not getting points added to my acct.

  33. bali

I’ve been averaging about 7000 points daily per ipod since I started using Viggle – awesome app! It seems I’m getting fewer points now, though – it doesn’t always seem to credit, also it crashes a LOT.

Also, I’d check out their facebook site – looks like some people have been having trouble redeeming their amazon giftcards recently, and Viggle hasn’t responded on their site yet, which I find a little worrisome. I haven’t had any trouble redeeming my target and cvs gc, though.

    • Sue

I tried checking their Facebook page, but it says there are no posts to show. Did they delete all the negative posts?

      • bali

they’re kinda hard to find, the first search result goes to their app site. here’s the link to their actual fb site: https://www.facebook.com/viggle (see comments on first 2 posts)

        • Sue

          Thanks!

  34. bali

😀 also, the term “viggle it” has become quite common in my household, as in, “shush, i have to viggle it!” 😀

    • cindy

funny! I signed up 2-nite and already doing the shhhh. LOL

  35. Sue

I didn’t see any games; are these shown on the “Featured” page when they are available?

  36. Kinsey

So, I think I have an older iTouch. How do I go about earning points? Also, if I watch shows online do I get the points?

  37. WhitneyLou

Ok, this might be a stupid question, but does it give you points for any television show? I’ve only been checking into the ones that are featured on the “What’s On” menu. Am I missing out on a huge amount of potential points?

    • emma

They give you 2 points per minute for any show you check into except the featured shows which give you more. So yes you were missing out but not anymore!!

      • WhitneyLou

Ah! I’m such a dork! Thank you so much 🙂

  38. E

I cashed in for a Target GC last night but still haven’t received an email from them. For those who also got Target GCs, how long did it take?

    • Janie

I also redeemed for a Target GC last night & my email came right after. It came from Viggle Rewards, maybe check Spam, if not they seem to be responsive if you email or tweet them.

  39. Margie

Is there any compensation for referrals? I know many people I could get to join!

    • Sarah

You get 200 points for every friend that checks in for the first time

  40. anne

how do you get to the games????

  41. A

Is there anything like this if you don’t have an ipad? Is there anything for a computer?

  42. Emily

I love Viggle! It is so easy to rack up points…I already received one free month of Hulu plus which was on sale for 4,000 points. Now, I’m saving for the kindle unless if something comes on sale that I can’t resist. LOVE IT!!! GREAT APP!!! 🙂

  43. Erin

You can check into music channels before bed, which have given me 600 points per check in 🙂

  44. Melissa

I’m addicted! I check into the today show before going to work. It’s about 460 pts. I put it on my phone last week when it was posted and am over 15,000 pts. We DVR a lot, so it doesn’t work for those, but I’ve gotten 2 $5 Starbucks certs out of it, which doesn’t seem too shabby for watching TV! I like the idea of checking into a movie before bed. I’m going to try that tonight. Thanks!

  45. Alisha

I just downloaded this today and already have over 8000 points!!

    • blithe

How are you able to get 8000 points in just a few hours? What shows do you watch? Thanks!

  46. Tee

did they stop the sephora card offer??

  47. Sarah

I don’t understand how I have 1500 points already. I just downloaded the app last night and I tried checking in but I wasn’t near a tv so it didn’t work. I was just playing around trying to figure the app out.

    • Kaitlyn

You receive 1500 points when you set up an account. 🙂

  48. Lindz

Does anyone else see that there aren’t any ads today for points? Usually I get quite a few by watching ads/trailers but I have not seen any so far today. 🙁

  49. Asha

same here .. no ads or premieres today.. not able to contact them either…….
