Kmart has announced that they are closing 8 more stores in various parts of the country (there are 2 in GA, 2 in FL, and 1 each in IA, MN, VA, and TN). If you live near one of these locations, be on the lookout for clearance deals throughout the store (find an updated list here). Hip2Save reader, Rebecca, emailed about what she found at her local store:

Everything is on sale for an extra 10%-70% off depending on the department. They just put mass sale signs all over the store for each department, and some things are ringing up even cheaper than indicated. My hubby bought a $9 t-shirt (apparel sign says 20% off), and it rang up for only $1.50! They also carry E.L.F. cosmetics, which I got some bargains on.

(Thanks, Rebecca!)

I am happy to see Ca. not on that list. For the past 6months now I’ve visited Kmart and have gotten great deals on kids clothes. Just visited them yesterday all summer clearance has an additional 40% off. Let me add the quality and style of clothes at Kmart has improved a lot.

I’ve noticed that too. I actually find myself WANTING to go to Kmart, lol!! I am really happy about the improvements and the deals on kids clothes are great!

      • Alisha

I too am glad CA wasn’t on the list! I love our Kmart!

I went to 2 of these stores in Michigan that closed…no deals worth going there for.

  3. Roy

Tallahassee store already closed too. Becareful of the sales!! I think they marked prices up then offered the discounts! I priced checked some of the “deals”, and item were still cheaper at Walmart. That being said….some items were a very good deal and we scored some good items. Just becareful what you get.

I believe the liquidation gets handed over to another company, much like estate sales. They are there to make a profit, so things will not be cheap at first. Better deals can probably be found at regular end-of-season clearance at any store.

The store by me closed a few months ago and in general, the deals weren’t really deals.

    • Tanya

Have you been to the Waukegan one? Anything worth lookin at?

      • Kelly

The one on Belvidere in Waukegan? I know the one in Zion closed but there wasn’t anything good!

The best time to go is at the very end– there’s not a ton left by then, but what is left is super cheap. When one closed in our area we went the day before the last day of the sale and got a car seat and stroller for our new baby for an amazing price!

A few months back 1 of our 3 Kmarts closed I did wait until the last day. everything was 90% off and got great deals ofcourse. lots of new pj’s and household things..but until it’s get marked down real low be aware they have crazy high prices and anything the same could be bought at Walmart at anytime for much lower even with 30-40 % off

Don’t get too excited about this. I checked out the store in VA over the weekend. Kmart’s prices are notoriously higher than any other stores in the area, so the discount isn’t really saving you anything. I was sad seeing all the people buying things when they thought there were getting a good deal just because it was marked down when they could have gone 1/2 mile to Target and it would have been less expensive. Pays to know how much things usually cost.

I could have written that post. Seriously, I just came back from one of the FL stores closing and was shocked to see what people were buying/considering a good deal. I looked for toddler outdoor climber/slide and their discount was actually 20% MORE than amazon. The prices are super high!! I may go back a day or two before the actually close for good.

  11. Melissa

I don’t find Kmarts prices any better over here. We have gotten better prices at Target especially on toys and household items.

Oh, how sad! The Miami store listed is actually a great store with a very nice staff. Thanks, Collin, I’ll check it out and hope the prices are low. Really hope the staff can get placed at neighboring stores!

Our K-Mart closed a few months ago. Their closing deals stunk! The only department that had 70% off was jewelry. The rest was between 10% and 30%. I wasn’t super impressed.

    • angie

I know what u mean ours closed a couple months back. They marked all their back up to regular price then took 30% off making it about what u would pay at walmart.

  14. Yvette

Speaking of e.l.f, does anybody know where I can get the $20 rebate form

  15. Anna

I got an email from the Shop your way reward program and they gave me $5. I went and bought $5 in school supplies from Kmart today.
