I just want to remind you all about this *HOT* JCPenney promo in case you missed it when I first it earlier this month. JCPenney recently announced that they’ll be offering up FREE haircuts for kids (grades K-6th) for the entire month of August at every JCPenney salon across the USA! How cool is that?! 😀 Just be sure to call or visit your local JCP Salon now to schedule an appointment for August. I am guessing these slots will fill up fast!

I already have my kids’ appointments made!!!! 🙂

    • joella

i called and they told me all they have is for the 30th (the day after school starts) during the day(when my kids will be at school).wow that sucks

    • fofie

I just finished calling JCPenneys at South Park Mall and I was told that they were booked already for the whole month. So I in turn asked, so if I walk in, I will not be served? Then the girl said, well yes, but you will have to wait. Sounds like this person didn’t even want to deal with customers who were trying to save a $1.

  2. Nicole

I scheduled two for my son. I walked in to schedule it and ask them questions about it. I did not want to take advantage of it if they were going to be ‘losing money.’ The stylist booking the appointment said that they have an hourly rate, tips, and commission. She actually told me to do one at the beginning of the month and one at the end of the month. I felt better about using it once I realized that she was not upset about the program because I had heard stylists were. I just will make sure I leave a NICE tip for her 🙂

  3. Mary

Has anyone gotten their kids hair done before here? I just wanted to make sure they do a good job before I call in. 🙂

    • Bobbi

My two daughters and I all got our hair cut at JC Penney before school started last year. They did a nice job.

    • Mia

They always do a nice job, and remember it is free!!!!

  4. Angela

Just scheduled my kids haircuts! My daughter has been wanting to get her haircut at a real salon (not just me trimming it).

  5. Irina

    Great! Thank you!!!

  6. Wendy

Not sure if this is correct for all JCPenney salons but when I called to make an appt for my daughter I asked what it would cost to add on my two year old son. They told me they weren’t allowed to ask the age of kids so they were taking all ages at no charge. So, yea!!!! Two free hair cuts.

    • Melody M

so they cut the two year old for free too? Cuz I have a 1.75 month old girl lol and a 2.9 year old boy and I want their first professional haircuts done. But we are a very low income family…

  7. COLEEN6000

I made appointments for my 3 kids for the first week of August. How much of a tip should I leave for each hairdresser? Would love to hear your input.

    • Nicole

Jcp stylists get paid hourly and get a percentage of each cut plus tips. I always tip 20% or more based on how well the stylist does. HTH!

  8. Jen

Call and made my kids appt and was told that my local JCPenny salon was offering up through high school!

  9. Laura

My local JCPenny said ages 5-12, so I will miss out for my 3 year old.

  10. Cynthia

Just a little upset, wished it would be for all students. I have 13 yr and 16 yr old, their haircuts are expensive since they are considered adult haircuts.

    • miffed

Upset? because someone is offering something free and it doesn’t apply to you? You have serious entitlement issues.

  11. Monica

What’s the catch? There has to be some kind of catch, I can’t believe a big store like that offering up 100% free haircuts.

    • Rosie

The only catch is that the kid’s hair needs to be clean, dry and ready to cut. They aren’t performing any additional services. If it’s the texture of hair that has to be wet in order to be cut then they will spray it with water but there’s no shampooing, etc with the service- cuts only.

Your local JCP may be different but this is how it was explained to me by my (JCP) stylist.

  12. Meanie Hernandez

I called and made an appt, they told me on aug first they will just have walkin and expect to be very busy. However I made an appt for the 3rd just in case it was just too crazy!! I sit outside the store for an hour before it opens and I get in here and they are going with scheduled appts!!! WHAT the heck!!! This is insane!!

  13. Melissa

I just received a flyer in the mail that had a 800 number on it and I call and scheduled all three of my children and they did not ask any of their ages. I also asked how many kids per family and she said up to 6 kids. I thought that was awesome. I scheduled my cuts closer to my kids first day of school. She said someone will be emailing and calling to confirm a time on my date of choice. Here is the 800 number if anyone wants to give it a whirl. 1-855- JCP-KIDS (527-5437)

  14. melissa shenefelt

I called and made an apt at the same time for both my boys. Hoping that we dont get charged for our 4.5 yr old as he does go to the same elementary school as our 6.5 yr old for special education Preschool. I made the apts for a week before school starts.

  15. Kristen

I just called here in Austin, TX and I was asked how many kids, they wanted to know the genders and a phone number (preferably a cell) They said they would send a text to remind me of the appt. I asked how much they normally get tipped and he said between $4 – $7. I think I’ll bring some muffins or something for the stylists, too!

  16. April

I just got home with my 3 son getting their hair cuts and it was free! The Penny’s where I live was giving out free cuts for all kids…I have a 2,4 & 6 yr old! And they did a fantastic job!! I will go back even when I have to pay!

  17. Lilly

I would like to know if anyones already had there hair cut there just to make sure they would do a good job before my child gets a hair cut there.?😃

  18. Melody M

Hi I have a 20 month (1.75 years) old girl and 35 month (3.9 year) old boy and I would love to be able to get their hair cut for the new school year of head start and daycare! Am I able to bring my children in?

    • Melody M

i meant my son is almost 3. His birthday is sept 1st and my daughter will be 2 in december. But I will tip nicely and bring goodies for the hairdressers as someone else mentioned! I just want a reasonable price it’s expensive to get two kids haircuts

  19. breanna

    whats the number ???????????????

    • tabu

that is very good offer and i like to go there with my kids.everybody should go there thanks.

  20. candi

just finished going to jc pennys salon for my boys and i just wanted to say that they did a wonderful job i think as a matter of fact i will use them from here on out 🙂

  21. Heather

My daughter is 4 and when I made the appointment via the special number I asked if it was ok even though she wasn’t 5 but was still in preschool. They said it was ok and we made the appointment. When we went in, they wouldn’t cut her hair b/c she wasn’t 5. The woman at the salon said the phone customer service reps weren’t doing a good job of asking ages. Guess that’s what I get for being honest. Boo.

  22. mur

they do not get commission. They now get a flat hourly wage, some lower than other. They can keep their tips but have to report them and get taxed. I am a jcp salon manager.
Some moms are really nice and patient. Some are rude and have no intention of coming back, but are demanding to get like 5 kids at once and then get fussy when we don’t have enough slots on the same day or we don’t have time to shampoo, cut, blow dry, and style. Thank you to the parents that are polite, tip, and smile. We have a lot of stylists that are being treated very badly by parents and management is demanded to schedule kids in 15 minute slots. It takes more than 15 minutes. We all are so upset at coorperate. They are taking advantage of the stylists trying to drive traffic into their stores but are ticking off parents and stylists too by cramming everyone on the books 🙁

    • Bobbie

It is not possilbe to do cuts every 15 mins. Even if you are not shampooing. We are scheduling boys 15 and girls 30. I make sure and give everyone a 15 min break (like the store does) and their lunch. I also am a manager at jcp. It is a really good promotion we are just tired. I do not have enough staff or hours in a day to get in everyone. As of yesterday we have done2028 kids cuts. Keep your chin up!

  23. misty boggs

On the free kids haircuts what abt if thier younger
Like 3 or 2 years of age

  24. Jaime

Might I suggest tipping whatever you would have paid for the hair cut? Especially given mur’s info above? If we’re lucky enough to snag a spot or two, that’s what I plan to do! :D. Happy bargain hunting, everyone!

    • melissa

we didnt tip that much as we couldnt afford it but we did give a generous tip between the 2 kids. we are gratefull for this opportunity and i know the salon people are running around like crazy trying to please everyone.

  25. Christine

Don’t waste your time..my two daughters had appointments one at 1:00 and the other at 1:30 with the same salonist. She finished both haircuts in 15 minutes, also she told me she couldn’t cut one of my daughters hair as asked cuz of the promotion..she rushed us in and out barely talked to any of us..it was like a sweat shop..I left and took them to a different salon where I ended up paying what I normally do but atleast it was what we wanted..family and friends had appointments and have canceled…you will definatly get what you paid for with these free haircuts…

  26. Tina

i am a Jcp stylist and i can’t tell you how much this wore me out, every 15min. a haircut, couldn’t even go to the bathroom or take a break…most of my parents were nice but some was just plain out mean….. out of 148 kids cuts i did 1 only came back cus i didn’t cut the bangs short enough….so just because one person does a bad job doesn’t mean all of us are bad……..

  27. in the know

Don’t know where some get their information but commission for all jcp stylists was taken away May of 2012. They only receive a low hourly pay ( based on how much money they can bring in).
