Calling all you dollar store shoppers… I have some exciting news for ya! Starting this Sunday, 8/26, Dollar Tree has made it official that they will start accepting manufacturer’s coupons! This is great news as all items sold in Dollar Tree stores are priced at just $1, which means you’ll be able to score name brand products at an even greater discount by being able to use coupons! Sweet! 🙂

Bad Idea. Don’t dig it. Keep couponers away from this already perfect Dollar Store, please! I HATE shelf clearers.

    • Christina

I hadn’t even thought of that 🙁 I hope everyone practices consideration for other shoppers.

    • Amanda

Not all people who use coupons also clear shelves.

      • Dawn Kursman Lancaster

This is true, some of us just need to save a buck here & there 😉

    • Debbie Busse

if you read the terms, there are limits to how many per transaction

      • Debi J

The only limits is 1 coupon per item, 2 internet coupons per visit and management has the right to refuse a coupon or limit quantities. If you go in with 30 coupons from the Sunday paper, you may be able to use them all because if the manager doesn’t care – he will let the first person in to take them all and then not have to worry about it until he gets a new shipment.

        • anonymous

Not trying to be rude, with all respect, it says per transaction. Meaning if someone wanted to they can separate their stuff and do multiple transaction. On one receipt use the two internet coupons, cash out then do it again on a different receipt.

    • Toni S.

It sounds like you are ONE OF THOSE (people who assume that ALL people who use coupons are like the extreme couponers on TV).

    • Hyedi

Becky,I don’t understand why you would post a snub towards couponers when you are on a couponing blog? Hmmmm, sounds like someone needs a hug today! you have a great day Becky!

      • Dawn Kursman Lancaster

        LOL~ Love it 😀

    • Brooke

I for one am excited about them taking coupons. If you had read the terms they have a limit but you probably didnt get that far. I agree with Hyedi….Soudns like you need a hug. Lol.

    • whitephantom

I’m excited! But it is a bummer when that one person unnecessarily buys 100 bottles of aspirin. But other than that, they got limits to hopefully prevent that. I think this is nice, we will get some great deals out of this

    • MelissaA

I don’t see how you can clear shelves when you are limited to 2 coupons per TRANSACTION. You would have to go in and out of the store many many times in order to clear a shelf, and frankly, knowing how lazy people are, including shelf clearers, I doubt they will waste their time. It’s easier to do at Walmart.

      • Becky

Linit 2 (internet) coupons per transaction.

  2. Crystal

I’m very excited!!! I always see coupon pairings for the Dollar General which is not in my area. Dollar Tree on the other hand is a location that I’ll be able to shop at. The closest one is about 10 minutes away and I have a feeling I’ll be going there more often now.

  3. Jen Trimble

wow this is pretty cool! we have so many dollar trees around here! cant wait!!!! hopefully they figure something out to avoid people clearing shelves…or wait i got an idea! how about people just don’t do it!!! lol. yea i know…but a girl can dream can’t she?

  4. Julie T

It was commented earlier that the coupon policy was on their website. I cannot find said coupon policy. I would like to print it out and have it handy. I did, however, find this in the FAQ section…

    “Does Dollar Tree accept coupons?
So that we may continue to provide you extreme value for $1.00, we do not accept coupons online or in any of our retail stores.”

    • Candice Jaehn

If you want the policy now, I would say go to your nearest store and ask if you can snap a picture or write it down. I just called my nearest store and they confirmed that they will be taking coupons starting this Sunday!

    • sonia

they dont start accepting coupons until the end of the month. the policy is at the beginning of this page,

      • Amanda

        THANK YOU!! 🙂

      • Becky

Thank you very much!! Much appreciated!

      • Julie T

Thank you, Karen T, that is exactly what I was looking for. I found different rules on other blogs and wanted to know for sure exactly what the rules were from the horses mouth.

  5. C

wow. that is so cool. i love shopping at dollar tree. 🙂

  6. Ruth

Although, I love this idea. I agree with Becky. Unfortunately, I live in a town where they have extreme couponer groups and they clear out the shelves at the grocery store I work for. They come together and shop together and clear out everything on Sundays. So, I can imagine the same thing happening at the only Dollar Tree we have in town.

      • Cheryl

Unless they set a transaction limit, though, people will just do a lot of transactions. 🙁 Thankfully we don’t have a big shelf clearing problem in my area! I’m super excited about this…I already loved shopping at Dollar Tree! This just makes it better. 🙂

      • tammy

        2 printed coupons i thought

      • Debi J

According to their policy, it’s only 1 INTERNET printed coupons – doesn’t say any limit on Sunday circular coupons. However, they JUST started with coupons. Once they have to start dealing with the complaints of people clearing shelves, they may limit. Don’t forget that some – especially P&G – coupons limit the number of like coupons able to be used together. (P&G say only 4 like coupons can be used together in the same transaction – not on the same product.) I suggest if you get cleared out a lot that you complain to the company.

    • Candice Jaehn

They might alter the coupon policy if that starts happening!

      • Ruth

I am glad that you mentioned that Amanda and Candice I am hoping that the store I work for does something like that hopefully. Its not all couponers but a few that have decided to start their own group and extreme coupon like in the tv shows. I love using coupons and saving alot of money but not use them like those people do.

  7. Brenda M.

Wonderful news!!!! I will be shopping Dollar Tree more often.

  8. Andrea

The one coupon per product rule…. Does that mean one coupon per item or one coupon per type of item. For example, if you buy 2 hefty bags can you use two coupons or just one? The wording in the policy is confusing to me.

    • Dawn

      Just one.

    • eve

It says “Only one (1) manufacturer’s coupon will be accepted per item” so 1 per item you purchase

    • Debi J

If you are buying 2 packages of Hefty and your coupon is $1 off 1 package, you can use two coupons. If you are buying 2 packages and your coupon says $1 off 2 packages, only one coupon. Per ITEM means each item in a transaction can have it’s own coupon if off 1. Per TRANSACTION means all of the items in your order.

  9. cannielle

I feel bad for them, i don’t people would able to go too extreme at Dollar Tree per their coupon policy. It is just a marketing strategy to lure people in.

  10. Holly

“Coupons cannot be redeemed for more than the purchase of the item specified on the coupon.”
    ————————-
So what will happen to a $3MQ (an example)?
Can we get 3 of the same items for the 1 MQ or will the MQ’s get adjusted down?

    • Amanda

That would indicate to me you cannot use a coupon valued more than the item (i.e. no $3MQ on a $1 item).

      • Nicole

Or they adjust them down. I’m still waiting on dollar tree to accept MasterCard debit…. Anyone else find that weird that they don’t ?

        • crystal

I’ve used my debit card before with a Mastercard logo without an issue, south mississippi.

        • Amanda

I’ve always used my MasterCard debit card at Dollar Tree as well. Used it yesterday. :). Also in South Mississippi!

          • Kristen

I went into mine in Hattiesburg and used mine with no problems but I was in Gulfport the other day, and I couldn’t, so I guess it’s different everywhere 🙂

            • Amanda

              Hattiesburg here too! 🙂

    • Lisa

You can use MasterCard debit just not as a credit card.

      • Bobbi

Same at our Dollar Tree Lisa! We’re in Arkansas.

    • Debi J

Most other stores will just adjust it down. Don’t be surprised to see it just rejected if it’s over the cost of the item. They will tweak the coupon policy as they run into problems. I’d keep that coupon policy page on my favorites if I were you.

  11. J

I shop at the dollar tree all the time. 🙂 so im pretty excited. but i don’t think all Qs will work there some of the name brand products they carry won’t be the same as some size restrictions on Qs not everything is FULL sized..I just don’t want to see all the aisles cleared by people being too EXTREME ..

  12. Brittany

    Wonderful news!

  13. Laura

I don’t believe that couponers are to blame for shelf clearing….I think the shelves are often poorly stocked to begin with and when you want to stock up on an item it appears as if you’ve been greedy. That has been my observation. 🙂

    • Laura

I’m not talking about just Dollar Tree but stores in general.

    • Amy

I agree! Like this week at Publix. They released two store coupons for BOGO Glade expressions that match up with 2 MQ BOGO Glade expressions. I went into to the sotre and they had none. I asked the manager how they went so fast and he told me they usually only stock 4 or 5 of them so they went fast! Really you have AWESOME coupons and sales and you do not properly stock your shelves?? In my opinion they are losing money in sales by not stocking properly for the items in demand!

    • Dawn

I have heard, from other couponers, that some Walmart managers have items pulled off the shelf if there are too many people walking out with money.

      • Debi J

I know that for a fact. When the Schick $1/1 or $3/2 coupons come out, there are no more than 5 of the 97 cent packs out in either of the 2 walmarts near me. But as soon as they expire, the bin is full. I don’t know that they pull them – but they don’t restock them, that’s for sure. (or if they do, they only put out 1 or 2.)

  14. esther

I agree Laura. Walgreens never has the stuff they advertise on sale in stock. And they stay out for weeks. Often can’t even use rain checks.

  15. H.M.

I love the Dollar Tree! Best place to buy cat pan litter liners!

  16. cdawnt

I think my Walgreens actually holds their stuff in the back and they only put out 1 or 2 at a time. Anyway, will Collin be doing any match ups for us? I guess no one else on the internet does it cause they have not taken coupons until now.

  17. maflies1

In our area we have a brand new $Tree that has a refrigerated/frozen section, also. I’ve actually seen people do some of their “grocery” shopping and get 3 or 4 bags for $30 or $40 & cashier comments to them in amazement, also, “Much better than at WM!” ??? And I too was thinking, yes, and with some coupons, WOW!!! Now, the day has come. Yea. Such a nice store. I hope people are pleasant and thoughtful to the cashiers and staff. I am so excited! Thanks so much Collin for letting us know about this. You are a gem, girl!!!

  18. Katherine

I live in Chicago and the nearest Dollar Tree has some name brand things but it is never consistent and always changing by what comes up that they can order from wholesaler. This would also mean I would have to carry all coupons with me going there.

And the Hefty Slider bags are a very Low count to get them for a dollar, so I am not sure if 6-10 bags ( depending on size) are worth it when you could get a larger quantity with sale and coupons at Target or Walmart for a better deal???

  19. Julie T

Sonia, I saw the policy listed at the top of this page, but I also saw it on other blogs and it was different. Since it was also stated that it was found on their website I was just looking for a link.

  20. tbits

I have a Deals store similar to Dollar Tree & they just started accepting coupons within the last 6 months however when I went to use an internet MQ I was told they don’t take those because they have had problems with fraud & people copying them.

  21. Ashley

It would be awesome to see another Coffee with Collin episode shopping at Dollar Tree!

  22. Kiki

How sad to read the sweeping generalizations, stereotypes, false assumptions, and prejudices made that disparaging people who happen to use coupons…when in fact ethical, considerate, loving, and generous people also happen to coupon to make ends meet in this economy. Hate is hate, people. You know what happens when you assume…

  23. L. Wright

It’s nice but I think the coupon policy is too complicated, I see alot of arguing with witless cashiers…sigh… I think it is pretty tight to avoid shelf cleaning and as mentioned before, many of their products are not full sized.

    • brooke

just left the dollar tree and that had to be the easiest shopping trip ever. with sizing there aren’t a bunch of coupins you can use but def worth going. I got 4 boxes of post cereal, 4 soft pretzel poppers, 1 garnier frutise, and 4 sargento cheese and only spent 3.21. there was no one in the store and the cashiers did a good job and said it was easier then they thought so I don’t think there will be a problem unless your not looking at sizes to what your getting.

  24. Jabberjawzz

Here is the coupon policy for those that cant find it. The only limitations that I see is a limit of 2 internet coupons and Only 1 Manufacturer coupon will be accepted per product in transaction.. This one is a litle confusing. Are they saying only one coupon per item (like you can’t use 2 coupons on one product) That how i read it or does it mean they will only accept 1 coupon /item per transactions so in other words I can only buy 1 hefty ziplock?

Here is their new coupon policy:
*Manufacturer coupons ONLY, no retailer specific coupons; example Target, Wal-Mart, etc.
    *No photo copy of coupons.
*Limit 2 Internet coupons per transaction.
*Do not accept coupons for “FREE” product or coupons where the amount for the product is blank.
*Coupons must be presented at time of purchase and can not be redeemed for cash at a later time.
*We will accept coupons subject to their terms only; such as expiration date, size and limitations.
*Coupon will not be accepted without the purchase of the item specified on the coupon.
*Coupons cannot be redeemed for more than the purchase of the item specified on the coupon.
*Only 1 Manufacturer coupon will be accepted per product in transaction.
*Coupon must be intact, not altered or modified in any way.
*Coupons are for in store purchases only.

  25. Jacki

We have a deals in Delaware which is a dollar tree that have things priced over a dollar. They have always excepted coupons and I have been using them for a while there never had a problem.one of my favorite places to coupon.

    • Debi J

Where in Delaware? I’m in Dover

  26. lisa

My friend’s husband is a manager at a local Dollar Tree. He has worked there for years. They also only the store Deals (which already takes coupons, but sells some of the same items that are at dollar tree for more money).

My guess is they will be strict with the coupons as I know from my friend that they work on a small mark up. Sometimes they only make 10% on an item. They work on volume and getting you in there.

I was shocked to find out how much a small dollar tree takes in a day. They do a massive business – and have to because they do have a small mark up on products.

My friend’s husband goes in at four in the morning to start unloading the deliveries for the day to be ready for opening.

So be nice to the employees. They are just doing there job. And I am guessing it will take awhile for them to get used to couponers like us!

  27. Stephanie Kaeser Hathcox

ok i was just at dollar tree. here was my shopping trip.i wanted to get 4 oil of olay bath bars and 4 shredded wheat,i had $1.00 off of each item,so they would be free, but the manager would only let me use 1 soap coupon and 1 shredded wheat coupon,so instead of all free,i only got 2 free and paid $6.00 for the rest……i dont think that was right.is it?the policy states 1 coupon per product in transaction, but u can use 2 printed internet coupons.and plus they have to hand punch each coupon in.

  28. Cathie

Be sure and call your local Dollar Tree before heading out. I did my shopping and had my coupons ready. When I got to the register, I was told they are not taking coupons until Sept 1st.

    • Debi J

Call the company and check. The store may not have gotten the memo.

  29. Sariah

I agree with the first comment. I am a couponer and a lot of times dislike couponers. I will buy 1-2 of each item. I cannot stand it when people buy more than they need, and that is what will happen at dollar tree….

  30. yvette

sounds like a very smart business move thats a 8% profit for them for every $1/1 coupon used since they get 8 cents handling fee back and everything is $1
