Walgreens: *HOT* Act II Popcorn, 2.75 oz Only $0.13 Each (No Manufacturer’s Coupons Needed!)

So I was reading the comments on the Walgreens weekly deals post and noticed the following comment left by reader, Kristen:

At my Walgreens, the Act II popcorn was marked “buy 1 get 1 free.” When I used the in-ad coupon for 4/$1, I expected to pay $2 for 8. But instead it rang up as $1, because it was like I bought 4 for $1 and got 4 free. Unexpectedly better deal 🙂

Well, my sidekick, Mary, who lives in the Austin, Texas area, went out to her local Walgreens to test this out and was in fact able to score the same deal! Which means this sale seems to be going on nationwide. Keep in mind that the ACT II popcorn most likely will not be marked on sale buy 1 get 1 FREE, but should ring up that way. If it does, you should be able to score the following *HOT* deal on popcorn…

Act II Popcorn 2.75 oz 4/$1 with in ad coupon
Buy a total of 8 Popcorn packages
Use the in ad coupon which will make each pack $0.25
Minus the unadvertised buy 1 get 1 FREE sale
Final cost only $1 for all 8 packs – just $0.13 each!

What a great deal and a nice one for all you newbie coupons, as no manufacturer’s coupons are needed! Gotta love that!

(Thanks, Kristen!)

This is great for Christmas gifts! Last year we got $5 gift cards to Blockbuster (the only video rental place left locally other than RedBox which to my knowledge you unfortunately can’t get gift cards for) and we put them with a pack of popcorn and a theater box of candy (the drugstores sometimes have these for less than $1) for all of the classified employees at our oldest son’s school.

    • Cat W.

I’ve done this too, but instead of the Blockbuster card, we just hit the cheap-but-good DVD’s on Black Friday. I did a dirty Santa (white elephant) exchange with popcorn, theater candy, and a copy of The Blindside that we got for under $5. It was cheap for us, but it was a hit!

    • Bridget

You can do gift certificates to Redbox… check out their website

      • Bridget

https://premium.vcdelivery.com/redbox/ that is the link for gift cards for Redbox… on their main page there is a small “send a gift” in the upper right corner… click on it..

    • Mo

sweet! they must have changed that since last year – I emailed and asked customer service b4 we bought Blockbuster (as many folks who work at our school live outside of town – didn’t want to make it hard to rent and was hoping I could do RedBox) and they told me no. YAY for next year! Thanks ladies!

    Nice gift idea!

does using the new “card” limit you on stocking up?

    • shannyn

This isn’t a deal where you need to use your card:)

      • Destinee

The coupon says “good at walgreens with coupon AND card”?

        • shannyn

Your right, I didn’t read the small print. I am really having a hard time with this new program. Still, I did 2-transactions of 8 and haven’t had a problem yet:)

          • Destinee

Me too…the cashier didnt ask me for the card and right before I paid I said “dont you need my card?” Lol

      • Mitchell @ Frugal Finders

You actually do need your Walgreens Balance Rewards card. The coupon states “Good at Walgreens with Coupon and Card.”

    • Kristen

As far as I know, you don’t *need* to use your card to get this. Last week I bought something with an in-ad coupon that had the same wording (“with coupon and card”), but I forgot to use my card and it still rang up for the price I expected.

Regardless, I don’t think using the card limits you (though I am not 100% sure about this). However, if your cashier notices that the coupon says limit 8, you might have to do multiple transactions to buy more than that.

      • Mitchell

This week is the first week that the Balance Rewards card is required to get the sale price. For the past two weeks, the card wasn’t required for sale prices.

        • Kristen

OOPS! Thanks for letting people (and me) know that. Sorry for the misinformation!!

We’ve had so many medical bills that our gift giving ability has been helped so much by Collin. We would do Christmas anyway, but you make it so much more fun, Collin. I’m thinking that the above might make a nice gift for our wonderful postman, cause I know some are sceptical of home-baked goods.

  5. Kristen

OMG I am *the* Kristen who posted this. Cannot believe, after all this time of reading hip2save, that my little ol’ comment would not only get its own post, but a *HOT* post. Made my day, even more than getting 8 bags of popcorn for $1 😉
Thanks for all you do, Collin, and I hope lots of other hip2savers are able to get this deal too!

    • Donna Smith

Thanks Kristen for sharing this amazing deal!!!!!

    • tracy

agreed – thanks, Kristin! And so cool to be so famous as the inspiration for a *HOT* post. 🙂

  6. Jake

I live in Austin too, I wonder if I’ve ever seen this mysterious sidekick Mary on my Sunday shopping trips!

    • faith

Me too, and i have wondered the same thing..lol!

  7. Deb

I was told that Walgreens wouldn’t require the card to get the sale price until Oct. 1st.

  8. cheryl

So how do I get the card?

    • Kim

I got one at the register the last time i was there, she activated it for me and everything right there.

    • Katie

It’s a rewards care like at the grocery store. It’s free, you just need to ask for it if they don’t ask you to get one.

  9. Nora

Works without the card…it was actually a nice surprise and the cashier was confused as well.

  10. Ali

I just picked up this deal. Thanks!

  11. cheryl

    Thanks

  12. Susan C.

Works in Illinois! Thank you, will be doing the movie popcorn, theatre candy for Xmas gifts, too.

  13. Cindy

I just got back from getting mine. I have 6 Walgreens within a 5 mile area., 3 of them are about 1 mile from me. I picked up 24 of these using my card, and coupon from ad, only paid 3.00 total. Great deal and we were out of popcorn. Thanks!

  14. Joy H

I had a great day today. I bought (4) bags of Brachs Candy Corn, (8) Boxes of Nabisco Cookies and (2) Splenda Nectresse. I used (2) $1.50/2 on the Brachs, (4) $1/2 Nabisco Cookies and (2) $2 off Splenda plus I redeemed a $5.00 Balance Reward. I paid $3.05 total!

  15. Shanna

Just tried this deal and at my WAGS it was marked bogo! I have to go back, so I am going to pick up 8 more bags! My stash was running low!

  16. Adria

Does anyone know if the rewards you redeem go right to your card or do they print out as a catalina so we can use them that way?

    • mel

they accumulate on your card, you don’t get a coupon or anything. just have to keep track of a recent receipt since it’ll print on the bottom how many pts you have.

  17. Lisbeth

My local Wags didn’t have the BOGO popcorn. That’s okay bc I still think this was a great deal.

  18. Jen

The BOGO worked for me out in Albq, NM. Awesome deal. Thank you! Plus I was in desperate need of Listerine…stocked up as they were $4.99 for the big bottles, and if you buy 3 you get 5000 points.

  19. Sarah

Oh ya!! I got me some cheap popcorn!! Also grabbed some TP and some of the candy on sale. Love me some good deals! Woot!

  20. jen

This worked for me in Va! Thanks for the awesome deal!

  21. mary

Only 4 left at my wags, paid $.50
    S. Florida

  22. grace

I bought the Cepacol first and used the $1RR to pay for 8 bags of popcorn! Nice, neat two little transactions. Happy camper!

    • jen

I did the same! I actually had 1 RR from the colgate toothbrush last week, so that worked just as well as the Cepacol coupon 🙂

  23. Sara

Woohoo! Thanks! I bought a big box of a different brand, and its just not as good. Nothing compares to Act II butter lovers!!! I will be stocking up, if they have any left!

  24. Hxp

Just got 8 for $1.00 in central Cali!!!

  25. Marissa

can’t wait to get some tomorrow! We just ran out of popcorn last week! and with fall coming soon (hopefully still in the 90s in northern CA lol) my kiddos will love having a full stocked kitchen of popcorn!

P.S. sprinkle pumpkin pie spice and a little sugar (or splenda) over your popcorn and you have a HEAVENLY treat…. 😀

  26. darlene

great filler to use my register rewards to. Hate this new system. trying to keep my buying to a minimum .To much brain power figuring which rr or balance points to use.

    • Steph

Agreed. Walgreens has been on my bad list for some time now. This just seals the deal. It is such a hassle to shop there!!!

  27. Liz

    Worked for me in WI!

  28. mel

were not tagged, but did ring up BOGO!! Also, bought a Degree men’s deo $3.99 w/$1 RR and 1 bottle of Men’s Clear Care Shampoo (7.49). I used a .50 Degree IP and the Free Clear Care wyb Degree and I got 1000 Bonus Rewards for the Clear Care!!

  29. Pam

Well, it worked for everyone except my store! My store’s in ad coupon wouldn’t even ring up. The manager said he wasn’t about to do the B1G1 monthly and the 4/$1.00 weekly both together because they shouldn’t overlap. He didn’t agree with that. I told him I’d be happy to go to my other store where it would ring up automatically.

    • Lauren

It didn’t work for me either at my store in Dallas 🙁

    • Chelsea

Same here. The register said “Coupon not on file.” So they manually adjusted it to $2/8.

    • Rene

Same thing happened to me in Miami. Will try at the store near my house later. Still a good deal though. 8 for $2.

    • jessica

Glad to see I’m not the only one…well that my store isn’t crazy! The clerk and manager had no idea what was going on, then the manager said to choose one sale and he would honor it. I just walked out. It is my money and I have price points for a reason…to be able to afford feeding my family on one income.

  30. Lisa

I can’t wait to get the popcorn. I’m running the Halloween party at church this year, and I want to make those “monster hands” with a clear glove (not rubber), and drop a candy corn in finger spot for the fingernail and fill the rest with popcorn.

    • Rita

      I’m doing that too!

  31. Lori

This deal might be over??? I bought 8 yesterday and paid $1.00. I stopped this morning and bought 8 more. They came up automatically as 25 cents thru the register. The coupon did not scan, but the cashier told me I already got the sales price. So I ended up paying $2.00 this morning. Either it’s my store or the deal may be over. By the way, I did not register for the new Walgreen’s card yet, so it’s not a limit issue.

    • Amanda

Yes, that happened to me too. I just wanted to get 2 for 25 cents. They both automatically rang up at 25 cents each and the coupon didn’t change anything. I ended up putting one back because I only needed one filler to use a Register Reward.

      • Katie

        Same in Salt Lake. Bummer!

  32. cindy

Yep, I did the same as Lori above. Did the deal last night and it worked TODAY a no GO. Cost was .25 per bag. I even showed them my receipt from yesterday and no real answer. Did not think it was fair since the sign says BOGO.

  33. Jean

    Yep….deal is off! Bummer!

  34. carol

Bummer, I tried this deal today and it didn’t work. It had a bogo sign, but they automatically came up .25 each.

  35. Sara

I had trouble last night too.. the manager told me I could use either the in ad coupon or the b1g1free but not both.. he said the coupon over rode the monthly deal.. even though the shelf tags are out for b1g1. He was a jerk about it too.

    • Jenny

      Me too! Deal is DEAD!
Paid .25 each. Automatic price at register.

      • cindy

I went to 2 differnt stores a few days ago and had no issues, I went to a different stoe and it did not come up at BOGO the cashier called the manager and the manager said that since the other stores has it that she would honor it. So I got 8 for 1.00. The manager said that not all the stores run the same promos. I a just happy that they honored it.

    • Cakie

I had the same experience. They told me I could have one sale or the other, and were extremely rude about it. That’s AFTER they charged me $1 , and I had to come back in to get the adjustment -_-

  36. Jennifer

Went to my Walgreens today & it didn’t work. It was 4 for $1. I even tried talking to the manager & she said no that the BOGO was only good for the reg price.

  37. Rita

I live Austin. This didn’t work but mgr gave it to me. 32 bags for 4 bucks

  38. Gigi

I just went to Walgreens to test out the buy one get one free deals on ACTll popcorn and it didn’t work. I ended up paying 8/$2. Bummer.

  39. Veena

Guess the deal is over and i looked like a fool.

  40. Mimi

Went to Walgreens today and the deal is off. Oh Well, 25 cents is still a good price.

  41. Mary

I went Sunday I got 70 for 8$ today I went they rang up for .25 and the coupon said not in the system

  42. Courtney

Def a DEAD deal, had a nice argument with the manager too, ugghh. 4/$1 isn’t bad, but a bummer after you make the trip just for the popcorn.

  43. Marissa

both my managers immediately prove adjusted so I could get 8/1$. So sorry the rest of you don’t have nice managers!

  44. Cakie

I tried to do this deal today, and first they charged me $8 for the popcorn, then flat out refused to give me the deal. When i told them other people had received this sale price, the manager said “That’s not here”. I said “it’s still a Walgreens, it’s the same company.”, and she denied that they are all the same company 0_0

  45. Kimberly

went and got 8–charged me $2.00—guess they “adjusted” their computers…lol

  46. Tina

I went yesterday and got charged $2.00 for 8, I didnt notice until i left the store. The sign said b1g1 free and i was overcharged for my eggs so I’m going back to try and get $3.00 back for 4 dozen eggs(overcharged $2.00) and the ($1.00 overcharge) 8 popcorn. HOpe i get a refund…..

  47. CoolSue

Def’ly a no go in NJ. Tried it early this AM. Oh well! Still not a bad deal:)

  48. Amy

At my store in Orlando the sign read buy one at .99 get one free. That would make them .50ea. I took 8 to the register just to see what would happen and they rang up at .25ea. Do they ever go lower than that—anyone know? Was thinking of buying for treats for my son’s 3rd grade class. Maybe put cute wrapper on them?

  49. Kristen Bilbruck

Dead deal for me here in Illinois. Glad i stocked up while it was still alive!

  50. Nichole H

I tried at my Walgreens in east nc and I was told that it was either or by the manager and explained the reading…oh we’ll I tried but failed this time.
