Does anyone know if the handle is plastic? Is the lid oven safe? I missed the $35 one from Walmart because I wasn’t sure about the handle/knob, and I was afraid to go to Lowe’s and get one to replace it… but I have been wanting a Dutch oven!!!

I think that the handle is plastic. I was looking at a recipe for dutch oven bread which bakes very hot and the blogger said that she replaced the handle of her lodge DO with a metal one.

Just visited the Lodge factory outlet store in South Pittsburg, TN on Sunday. Wow! They have everything. We got a silicone sleeve for the handle of our cast iron skillet. But, my real point is that I got the same skillet at TJMaxx for $15 that I saw at the outlet store for $30. So, maybe these cast iron Dutch ovens can be found at TJ’s, HomeGoods, etc. too. I think our Meijer store has them, but don’t know the price.
