As I mentioned last month, I am super excited about a *HOT* new iPhone app that actually allows you to earn cash when you purchase products in-store! And if you have yet to download and use this Ibotta app, now is your chance to do so and snag $5 cash (note that you must click through this link to get the $5 Share the Love offer).

For a limited time, Ibotta will instantly add $5 to any new user’s Ibotta account as soon as they redeem at least one successful offer from the Ibotta Product Gallery by uploading a receipt and receiving cash on their Ibotta account (note that you must click through this link to get the $5 Share the Love offer). Awesome! 😀 What a great way to earn money to pay for stocking stuffers and even Christmas gifts.

Just head over here to download the free Ibotta app and you’ll be able to start earning real money for buying select products in Walmart, Walgreens and Target and now in Safeway, Kroger, King Soopers and Ralphs.

Here’s how it works:

Head over here and download the Ibotta app for FREE (note that this app is currently only compatible with iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPod touch – 3rd generation, iPod touch – 4th generation, iPod touch – 5th generation and iPad and does requires iOS 5.0 or later). Ibotta for Android users will be coming soon (you can head over here and click on the “Get on the List” link in the bottom left corner to be notified as soon as the Android version is available which will be no later than the end of this year!).

Before you head out to shop, browse through all the different offers. You’ll earn money by watching quick videos, viewing recipes, taking polls, posting to your Facebook Wall etc. AND then actually going to the store to purchase these specific items. Note that Ibotta works in every Target, Walmart, Walgreens, Safeway, Kroger, King Soopers and Ralphs in the United States and has plans to expand to even more retailers in the near future. The awesome part for all of us couponers, is that in addition to getting cash back on your purchases, you can also use manufacturer’s coupons to lower your out of pocket expense.

Be sure to check out the product detail page on the app itself in order to view the offer’s expiration date. Offers can sell out, so it’s important to redeem them before they’re gone!

After you make your in-store purchases, you’ll just need to upload your receipt via the Ibotta app. Ibotta will then verify your purchases and determine whether credit should be added to your account within 24 hours. In many cases, you will receive word from Ibotta in under 1 hour. It is super simple to upload your photo and money was added to my account within an hour. Very cool!

Once you’ve reached at least $5 in earnings, Ibotta lets you transfer your earnings directly to your PayPal account. Choose Withdraw Cash from the main menu of the app, then select Get My Cash to link Ibotta to your PayPal account. How awesome is that?!

If you’d rather opt to donate your earnings to your favorite school, you can make a donation to any school in America as soon as you’ve earned $1 with Ibotta. Just choose Withdraw Cash from the main menu of the app, then select Donate to Schools. Ibotta can use your current location to find nearby schools, or you can type in any zip code and pull up a list of schools in that area.

Be sure to tell Ibotta which offers you like and dislike by tapping the image of any product and choosing either thumbs-up or thumbs-down. Over time the app learns what kinds of products you prefer and offers them accordingly.

Also note that there is no limit on the number of offers you can redeem. Once you have successfully redeemed an offer, Ibotta immediately restocks your shelf with a new offer. The more offers you redeem, the more new offers you will see, and the more money you can earn.

(Thanks, Oo La La Savings!)

I love Ibotta! While I can sometimes get better deals at the grocery stores (mine aren’t one of the redeemable ones) this makes shopping more fun at these other stores. Thanks for spreading the word!

  3. Tina

So now they added safeway so does this mean safeway store only or is Vons included?

  4. Angie

I have been using this app for about 3 weeks. I enjoy that I can double dip with coupons on a few of the items that are offered.

I have a question for someone who is familiar with this app. When I signed in, there are products with “earnings” below…were you can answer surveys, learn facts, watch videos or post to facebook. Do you get the earnings for these products even if you don’t purchase it, or are they a bonus for when you purchase it?

    • Emily

Nevermind– figured it out. Silly me

    • holly

dont feel badly. I was confused at first too!

      • Jenny

        Well, whats the answer? LOL!

  10. Heather

Now that they have added Kroger, does that mean just the Kroger store or the whole family of Kroger stores? (Hope that makes sense!)

    • Jenny

      Used yours! 🙂

  11. Anne

Thanks Collin! I already went to Walmart and got the $5 added along with the $ for my three items bought.

  12. Sharon

Do they send text messages to your phone? Does anyone know?

    • Jenny

No, it looks like you can set alerts on or off, but it’s not thru text messages. I left mine off. All you have to do is open the app on your phone to use it. 🙂

Fyi, I uploaded a Vons receipt not knowing if it’d count under the Safeway banner. It was approved! I would think it would apply to Kroger too. Can’t hurt to try. Also, if this helped, sign up under my referral…thanks! 🙂

So, I have use this for 2 weeks now, and it is great. I had an issue or two because I can only use it on my ipad2, which does not support their barcode scanner. I emailed customer service and they were great. I wonder now, though, because I don’t see Kroger listed as a store, if it will really be honored. For anyone who tried it with Kroger, was it listed in you store listing? Oh we’ll, have to shop tomorrow, so I guess I will find out 🙂

I just withdraw my first earning $5.25 to my Paypal account. I am so happy they add Kroger & Tomthumb to the store list. Here is my referral link, Sign up for Ibotta here: https://ibotta.com/r/WQ5Bwg

Do you have to use facebook with this app? I don’t really want to have my a enook account connected to the app?

  18. Carrie

Just thought I’d put this out there for those interested and/or joining. I have an iPod touch and the camera quality is not so great. This app is a bit of work for me. I have to submit several times and talk to CS to get my receipts approved. (FYI…doesn’t matter what I’ve tried, cleaning the lens, great lighting, putting star by the items, etc.) It’s great when I can get the deal, though!

  19. Nichole

Wow, this is pretty exciting! I look a way to get a little bit back in OUR pockets… Excited to use for the first time, at Target, of course!
