I bought my son’s Leapster2 for Christmas two years ago and it’s still going strong after being dropped more times than I can count. You can find the games used for around $8 and Ive been seeing more and more of them since the Explorer came out.

    • Sherry

I just bought me daughter one. She already has a leappad. Will this be that much different? I’m assuming it takes different games — right? I can also use this as a gift if it’s not that much different than what she can do on the leappad. Any thoughts?

      • Elizabeth

It does take different games. This is more like a video game where you use the up, down, left, right, and a/b buttons with a stylus for the touch screen. It is kind of bulky for little hands but once they get used to it then its not a big deal. My son got this when he was 3 and is 5 now and still constantly asks if he can play with it (even though the games are educational, its still screen time in our household so I limit his time with it). My son always asks for video game stuff and this has kept him from seriously bugging us about getting a Nintendo DS or anything similar.

    • Miriam

Please share where can you find used games. 🙂

      • Elizabeth

We have tons of games that we have gotten at thrift stores and if you have a Once Upon A Child near you, they usually seem to have quite a few games priced about $8. Since these games dont work with the new Leapster Explorers Ive been finding games more and more often with people upgrading their kids games.
There have also been a lot of good sales this year on games and Im sure there will continue to be more with the new Leapfrog games switching to the new cartridges. My local drug store had games 50% off awhile back so I got my son quite a few games for about $10 a piece. Ive seen B1G1 Free sales at Toys R Us also.

      • Crystal

Five Below has quite a few games for Leapster 2 – I think they are priced $5. I also saw some on Amazon for under $10. I see them all the time at garage sales and children’s resale shops also.

  2. Tiffany

Got it thanks!!! I am debating getting two just in case. This will be a good back u pin case the nabi 2 is too much for my 2 almost 3 yr old.

    • Erin

I hope not! I got the Nabi for my two year old. Initially got the LeapPad but Leapfrog is so bad with their perpetual upgrades, expensive software, and planned obsolescence that I decided I don’t want to be bothered. I’m hoping to skip the entire Leapfrog phase this time around. 🙂

  3. Corinne Char

ugh it won’t load for me!

  4. C.

Woooooohoooooooo!!!! I am sooooooo glad Walmart was out of these last night in store 🙂 Thank you Collin!!!!

  5. Lisa

    AWESOME! Thanks for the posting

  6. Corinne Char

it is in my cart but won’t let me get to the checkout page. Does that mean it is reserved because it is in the cart?

    • julie p.

      it doesn’t…keep trying!

    • Angie

I couldn’t get to checkout through Internet Explorer, so I went in through Safari and it worked. Try that.

  7. Maria

Collin, there is 6% CASH BACK through SHOPATHOME, too!!!!!!!

  8. Lesie N.

Oh my goodness. My little girl is going to have technology overload! I got in on the Kmart LeapPad deal, got a LeapFrog Tag Reading System as an Amazon Lightning Deal, and now this! And I found two of those deals on H2S! Thanks, Collin!

    • Erin

And mom’s going to have a credit card overload paying for all those expensive Leapfrog accessories/games/apps. Ask me how I know. 😉

      • Lesie N.

Nooooooo!!! Sticking my fingers in my ears so I can’t hear you! *Lalalalala* 🙂 🙂

        • Erin

          🙂

  9. Jen

This makes my night!!! A few weeks ago I drove off in my car w/ both of my sons DSs on top of the car. Not in a position to replace DSs at this time. This is perfect.

  10. Julie N

    Yay!! Thanks!!

  11. Jackie

    I got one! Thank you!!!!

  12. patrice

    Got one! thanks!

  13. Stefanie

I have a niece who is 2 and a half- would this be too old for her??

    • Lisa

She should be able to play it. My 3 year old does. Some of the games are harder, but if you just get one geared towards the younger ones, you should be good.

  14. Kendi

Thank you so much for posting this. I got one! Now I just need to find some games. Does anyone know of good sales that are going on for games. I’ll be looking on Monday as well.

    • Nicole

You can get some of the less popular games for $5 at five below (if you have that where you live).

    • Karen S

My boys have had these since last Christmas. The best place to find games for me has been 5 Below. They usually have 4 or 5 different ones and you can’t beat the $5 price.

      • Karen S

        wow,,that was weird…lol

    • Andrea

toys r us has them online for 9.98 right now. They are marked down from $25-$30!

    • Elizabeth

Check consignment and thrift stores also. A lot of people are upgrading their kids systems and getting rid of the leapster games, my son has gotten really lucky with the games this year. He has a small bucket almost full of them now.

  15. Tanya

Change your browser that you are using. I could not check out on walmart’s website on chrome and had to switch to explorer.

  16. jenn

Finally a great deal! Thanks! I snagged one for my 2 year old!

  17. Mindy

Thank you! Just bought one for my nephew–he will be so excited!

  18. Bobbi

    SCORE! With shipping only $1.97.

  19. Kristin

Wow! Thanks, Just checked off all the kiddos on my list.

  20. Vanessa

How does this compare to the Leapster explorer? I don’t know the differences..

    • Crystal

The graphics are not as good as the explorer and I think the explorer might have a camera option? But for a younger child (mine is 4) you can’t go wrong with the Leapster – the system is cheaper and the games are cheaper too. I know that my daughter could care less about the graphics.

  21. Coastieschick

Stefanie, totally appropriate for a 2yr old I think! Thanks so much for posting I was able to get a green one for my son!

  22. Crystal

I am in labor with my third and was upset I couldn’t shop today but, you have made my night!

    • Shelly

      Congratulations!!

    • Michelle

Oh goodness! Congrats on the baby and getting the deal 🙂

      • Lisa

  24. Lisa

  25. Casey Gwynn Parker

Got one for my daughter she is 2 and 1/2!! So excited!

  26. Allie

This is awesome!! Thanks Collin. I went to Walmart last night to try and get this for $20. I missed out on it, but I’m glad I did, just saved $8!!! Whoo Hoo! Very excited!!!!

  27. Chrissy

Just got two also. Don’t know much about these things but I hope my 2yr old and 4yr old will like them. Now I hope games aren’t too expensive.

  28. Andrea

Just got an email from toys r us….saw that the games for these are marked down to 9.99 reg price $19-$24 🙂

  29. Kendi

My daughter is 4. Is she too old for this? Are there games that are little more “advanced”?

    • jiya

my daughter is 5 & she is having fun playing with it.

    • Pinky

they have an assortment of games targeting kids upto 8 years old. My kid is 6 and loves it. 🙂

    • Ashley

It says it is for 4-8 year olds.

    • Elizabeth

My five year old loves his and it has kept him from bugging us to get him a nintendo ds

  30. Keisha

    Sweet deal

  31. Ashley P.

Yaay just got one for my daughter – I’ve been holding on to a Walmart gift card waiting for a sweet deal like this – Thanks as always Colin!

  32. Sly

They weren’t available for pickup at any stores near where I live so I purchased 4 so that I could get free shipping…it’ll make great donations to our local toy drive! Thanks so much for posting! 🙂

    • Erin

How nice of you! Just so you know, these don’t come with any games.

  33. April

  34. civyl

    sweet! Thanks Collin!

  35. cindynyc

This is awesome — we “adopted” a 3 year old for Christmas and her mom wrote “learning toys” on the wishlist. This was exactly what I was looking for to get her . . . and you can’t beat the price!!

  36. Jennifer Hill

Does anyone know if the games for this are compatible with the leap pad ?

    • Lisa

Not with the leap pad…we found that out the hard way last year…

  37. sweet

So would this be appropriate for my five year old daughter? Or is she too old? It sounds like many of you are buying this for 2-3 year olds. Thanks!

    • Elizabeth

I bought it for my son when he was 3 and he is 5 now and still plays with it constantly.

  38. Lora

any good deals on the games????

  39. Karen

Scored one for my grandson, who was just lethally cute today! He’s getting spoiled this Christmas thanks to Hip2Save!

  40. Brandi

    Thanks!!!!!

  41. Eka

Yey! Had this on my list! My 4 yr old has one since she was 2 and she loves it! I was able to get the games for $5 on a store called Five Below in the CT area…

    • Heather Nicosia

My son is 4 and enjoys xbox so I’m hoping this will be something else he will like. glad to see a 4 year old enjoys it. 🙂

      • Erin

The minute my son was playing “real” video games (age 5 for us), he was *done* with his Leapster. I still have unopened games! Ugh.

        • Crystal

Mine too, he would much rather play with the Wii … but luckily my 4 year old still loves it! Ours recently broke so I was excited to get this deal … thought about buying her a Leap Pad, but hated to spend money on all new games when she’s content with the Leapster.

        • Tara

Erin, are you looking to sell your games? If so, I may be interested in purchasing. Email me at taranpratt at gmail dot com

          Thanks
