My understanding is that you can play dvds on blu-ray players, but you can’t play blu-rays on dvd players.

No, it won’t. Blu-rays only play in blu-ray players. If you have any gaming systems the PS3 will play them (that’s how we do it in our house). For those wondering the blu-rays are a world of difference better playing quality than dvds, very worth it in my opinion.

No, I don’t believe the Xbox 360 plays blu-rays like the PS3 does.

If you have an xbox 360 from before the kinect came out, (they slightly changed the model) no. If you have a newer 360, then yes. I play blu-rays on my all the time.
