Part of our new year’s resolution is to be more mindfully aware of what we use. I am throwing out all my non-stick cookware because of all the bad stuff I’ve read about them. Collin, if you happen to find a deal on a cast iron grill, I’d love to hear about it! 😉

So have you heard that t-fal supposedly leaves out all the “harmful” stuff in their nonstick cookware? Just curious. I read that last week because I had concerns like you and was trying to learn more. Just wondering how true that is. It seems if it was that easy everyone would do it. I cant keep the stuff because I am the only one who is careful with it. It gets scratched and then I feel like I have to throw it away.
I have also been trying to find out if I can recycle any of the old stuff but it seems like no one has really thought of that.

        Hi Eas,

Thanks for the tip. Did a little digging–went to the t-fal website and found the following link.

        https://www.t-falusa.com/Tefal+magazine/Recipes/Non-Stick+Safety.htm

They say their stuff is safe because it contains PTFE, not PFOA which is considered harmful. But since I don’t know what is actually in PTFE, I think I will continue to use my cast iron skillet and copper pot to be on the safe side.

I know one can make themselves crazy with this stuff (i.e. canned tomatoes contain BPA) and scented air fresheners are not considered healthy either. It’s just a matter of finding the lesser of all these evils and make those changes that work for us.

Some non-stick cookware doesn’t have the harmful stuff (Teflon) in it.

That’s what they say. The last time I purchased a set I got t-fal for that reason. It still got scratched though and on a couple of pieces the scratches started to rust. Of course that’s bad for cooking no matter what is in the non-stick coating!

I have owned a Roclette for years. What a great way to get your kids to enjoy cooking and eating healthier. I usually bake a few potatoes and let the kids pick out their own toppings ( cheese, veggies, sausage, salmon) and make loaded baked potaoes for dinner. For desert, grill fruit and either do fondu or make smores. YUM!
