I hate to be negative, but after seeing the ill effects caused by purina brand pet foods in illnesses in the animals that consume it, I don’t know if “winning” in this case would be a good thing. No judgement passed on those that purchase it, I just feel there are healthier alternatives in simailar price points.

Do you have any advice on what dog food would be more healthy? We have been discussing which dog food is best and if we should switch. We currently use dog chow and just recently bought Purina ONE. We cant afford science diet or any of the expensive brands but we are hoping to find a well made dog food without breaking the bank. Thank you

I went through the same thing. I also used dog chow, even though I knew it wasn’t the best, but I have 3 big dogs, so I couldn’t spend too much. I now use authority. You can only get it at petsmart, it is their “store brand” but its along the same lines as a sience diet but much less expensive. At my store it is $31.00 for 29lbs. Its not the “best you can buy, but it’s great for the price.

My cats hate authority. I gave them wet authority food and they went for the purina friskies. Same with the dry food

I use Science Diet. They usually have coupons for either $3 or $5 off. Right now, PetSmart has a 40 lb bag for $34.99 so it is a better deal than the store brand. They’ve been running sales on the different size bags, you just have to watch for the sale.

Check out chicken soup for the pet lovers soul – dog food. The ingredients are better than the others, but still for a reasonable price. If you look at the top five ingredients in any dog food, you want at least the top 3 to be some kind of meat. =)

My cat who is 10 will only eat purina chicken and rice…I gave this to her as a kitten and after that one time she would rather starve then eat anything else..I have tried to switch her several times but she refuses to eat anything…hoping to win for being so loyal of a customer…lol..playing everyday but nothing..I was so happy for the recent free purina coupons however…lucky me thats what she eats!
