Had question, I am new to this if I get a membership how does it work ,livingsocial, thanks

  1. Laurie

Costco is better even at $50 or whatever it is now. Costco has coupons that are mailed to its members. With those Qs, the stuff is as cheap as a deal with Qs at stores and makes up for the price of the membership. We had both Sams and Costco membership one year because one of them was free with work and we verified prices are lower at Costco and the quality is better there – organic at Costco is the same as nonorganic at Sams. Sams has sometimes a little less quantity (for ex. toilet paper) at slightly lower prices to pretend they are cheaper. They are owned by Walmart, nothing better to expect.

    • CourtneyAmanda

thanks. I just renewed my Costco and was wondering if I should snag this as well. I think I’ll pass.

      • Janel

It depends on what you want to buy though. While they carry basically the same types of products the brands differ. My grandma has a membership to Sams Club and Costco for that very reason.

For example we’ve bought our mattresses there (Sam’s Club) in the past (cheaper than costco) and I got an amazing couch at Sams club that wasn’t carried at costco because obviously those types of things differ.

        I say check it out.

If I could only have one I would probably pick Costco, BUT I go with my grandma occasionally and there is some stuff there I like thats a good deal. Especially with this deal.

        • Melinda

I agree, A membership to Costco and sams club is definitely the way to go. The prices differ at the different store. For example, tissues are 5.00 cheaper at sams club then costco.

    • Tilla Ham

sams club cakes beat costco cakes by a mile.

      • jiya

I am 100% agree on the cake.

        • Stephanie

Sam’s rotisserie Chickens are much better and tastier than Costco and their produce tends to be less expensive, although I have a Costco membership. My parents have Sams and I ask them to pick up the rotisserie chicken for me sometimes.

  2. Tonya

Ok question. If my member expires on the 10th donunthink I can buy this deal and wait until after the 10th to redeem it since it says “New Member is defined as someone who does not have a currently valid membership” and technically I won’t have a valid membership come the 10th. I’m not on automatic renewal but info have a a sam’s credit card linked to it??!?

    • Toni

you could always try it and argue that you technically aren’t a member anymore d/t expiration on the 10th. So you would qualify as a new member because of their definition of a “new member”.
If it doesn’t work, could you gift it to a friend or significant other?

    • J

If you really worried about the car info could you use ur husband’s debt card? But I personally think if u would wait until after the 10th there wouldn’t be an issue.

    • C

You could also try canceling your current membership, since it is expiring in a couple of days, and then renew by using this deal.

      • Tonya

        Thanks for the ideas

  3. Kelly

Awesome! I had $5 deal bucks so only $40 for me. Thanks!!

  4. Kyra

Sam’s doesn’t have a very big selection of “low fat” or “reduced fat” items. We have BJ’s and Sam’s nearby and BJ’s is my choice by far. They have a deli and accept coupons (BJ’s as well as manufacture’s Q’s and they stack and take some expired q’s as well!)

  5. Rachel J

Basically if you figure this out–it’s $5 for the whole year of membership. Who cares if Costco is a little better. $5 for a year! WHY NOT!?!? 🙂

  6. lala

I have a business, is there
deal for those that would only pay $35.00 for membership normally?

    • Amy

No offense to you – I’m just putting it out there for everyone in general. However, I don’t think it’s fair for others to put their links out there for this kind of promotion. This is one way Colin makes money to keep this website going. Why try to take that away from her? Maybe she doesn’t mind – I don’t know the circumstances. I would just never try to do that as I enjoy this free website and this is one of the ways she gets income from all of her hard work.

      • Patricia

I used her link and it’ll be free for her after 3 friends buy. I figured there are alot more than 3 people buying from her link so I’d put mine out there. I get where you are coming from though.

      • Lizze

After three people sign up to make your deal free, you can no longer earn it for free for the same deal. By now, I’m sure Colin has definitely reached her 3 referrals with her own link. Patricia & whomever else well pleases can & should be able to post their own link. No offense to you, do some research before you post your copy & pasted message.

        • Amy

There is no need to flame for me posting this. I don’t feel it’s courteous to Collin for others to post their links. If she doesn’t care, then that’s fine. However, I would not feel right posting my link but that’s just me and my humble opinion. Maybe Collin gets the deal for free if 3 people use her link. However, have you thought that maybe she gets paid per “click” as well? That’s how a lot of advertising revenue works in the internet world.

          • Kathy

            I agree with you Amy!

            • Lisa

I agree with you too Amy!

          • Jodi

Amy, you seem quite passionate about this. Did you notice that Collin posted this after seeing it on Clip and Follow? Perhaps you would feel most ethical by using Clip and Follow’s link.

      • Danielle

I have a feeling Collin does pretty well. And I’m happy for her, with the corporate sponsorship and all. Don’t like someone posting a link? Don’t click it. Although I’m sure admonishing others gets you a nice little superiority power trip.

        • Amy

Oh, don’t worry. I don’t click on the links besides Collin’s. And just so you know, I don’t feel superior to anyone. However, I do try to take others’ feelings into consideration. Some people are so caught up in making a few bucks that they don’t care who they hurt in the process or think about how their actions affect others. Just because Collin doesn’t care and it’s legal, doesn’t necessarily make it right. It’s called being ethical. I would have a guilty conscience taking money away from Collin, but clearly lots of others don’t feel that way considering the number of comments with links on this post and on others.

          • s

That superiority comment was just plain mean. I am not sure how this works, but I always thought our clicks through Colin’s link was a big part of how she makes money.

  7. Amy

If anyone could use my link I would appreciate it!

    • Amy

      • Ashley57

I believe with Living Social deals, after three people sign up under your link, you get the deal free, and then there are no more perks, therefore, in these circumstances, there is no reason for people to not share their links. I am sure three people have already clicked on Collin’s.

        • Amy

Thanks for the info – I did not know that about Living Social. However, I see people doing this for other deals as well on other sites, and it just bothers me for some reason 🙂

          • Amy

Hopefully Colin will chime in and let us know her feelings on this. Maybe she doesn’t care – I don’t know.

            • Jodi

Collin has welcomed other people’s links in the past and has at times encouraged it, especially for avon reps. Most people will still click through her link at the top.

          • Ashley57

I agree, I am not sure what to think either way.

        • Denise

I think that Colin would make advertising money on any links she sends visitors to.

        • Lydia

Ashley, as a blogger I know that we can get kickback from ANY purchase made- not just the first 3 etc. You have to realize that bloggers do this for income and that they partner with businesses like Living Social to get money for “advertising” their deals. So actually, when you post your link you are taking money away from Collin for all her hard work. Does that make sense?

Maybe Collin doesn’t care, but it is something to consider!

  8. Amy

When will Sam’s Club start offering deals like this to their current members? We’ve had a membership there for 6 years (ever since we moved too far from a Costco).

    • Grace

I’m wondering the same thing. Our membership expires next month sometime and I’m contemplating letting it expire to use this deal, especially since we have been loyal customers for so long and it would be nice to have a break on the membership price

      • Amy

Tell me about it! The only perks you get is the coupons if you are an E-values member or whatever it’s called. I did that one time, but I did not save anywhere near $60 with the coupons to offset the cost. We are supposed to be getting a Costco here within the next year and I can’t wait!

  9. nonebetter

don’t forget to go thru Ebates for 2% cash back 🙂

    • bridriz

Shop at Home is 4% too!

  10. Rita

Wonder what the latest date is that you can activate it? We are currently BJ’s members but are moving and will be switching to Sams but didn’t plan on doing that until November of 2013. If this is possible, I’d snag it…

    • Krista

I am wondering that as well. Mine membership currently doesn’t expire until December 2013 but I would snag one too it if it had a long expiration date!

      • Mel

Deal says the promotional value expires June 18, 2013. HTH

  11. Livvy

Does anyone know if Sam’s Club membership can be shared among family members? If so, how many family members are allowed to share the membership?

    • Amy

It is my understanding that they have to be in the same household.

    • Erin Niehenke

Livvy – i think just whomever lives in your household. But you could always go with other family members.

    • Tiffany

You’re allowed 2 membership cards per household. I shared a membership with my mom and just said we lived together.

      • Livvy

        That’s good news! Thanks!

    • Heather

You get two cards per ‘household’ account. But you could always get a card and let your mother get a card and claim to live together if that is what you are asking.

    • Jennifer

I let my mom use our second membership card & she lives on the other side of the country, so it’s no problem:)

  12. rwild1

Wow. I had a $15 credit so only $30. our costco is up in May. So perfect timing. Thanks.

    • Holly

got mine free! Thanks so much everyone.

  13. Emily

My husband and I share a membership but I’m not sure if there’s a limit to the number. We also have a student membership since he is in grad school and it costs $45 and they give you a $20giftcard that can be used for anything in the store. Might be a better option for those with student Id’s. We save enough by buying gas to make it worth it!

  14. Allison

Has anyone checked with Sam’s Club to see if they’re honoring this for old members with expired memberships? Ours expired in February but I haven’t had to make a Sam’s run in the past few weeks. Since I no longer hold a valid membership it sounds like I should be able to do this deal but I’d hate to purchase the voucher only to be told it’s not valid since I was a member up through February. Or am I just overthinking this too much? 😉

    • Turquoice

I just called my local Sam’s Club and asked them – ours ended at the end of Dec. Was told there’s no problem and to go over to the membership counter with the voucher.

      • Allison

Thanks Turquoice! Saves me a phone call myself. 😉

  15. abby

Does this work for any sam’s club?

  16. Rei

Anyone else get the Livingsocial Plus (beta) offer? You pay $20 for a monthly membership but get $25 in deal bucks. It said it’ll apply to my Sam’s voucher, so only $40 for the voucher & month membership 🙂

  17. Janet

This is what I get for joining on March 1. Waited and waited to join and still joined too quick. Sure could have used that gift card!

  18. lynnea

Is this for the advantage plus membership or just advantage?

    • Tilla Ham

if they aren’t teenagers yet, just wait. my son and his 2 friends could eat 200 in groceries in 2 days. I once bought 3 large pizzas, set them in his room, went to kitchen to get them rootbeer, went back and pizza was gone!!!

  19. Lolita

It says: Vouchers valid only at participating locations; i wonder how we can find out which locations accept it. It does mention:
Visit www3.samsclub.com/clublocator to find a location
But I don’t know if that is just a list of all clubs, or the ones that accept it? I’ve seen other promos from other places that show you the list of all places, but it doesn’t mean all accept it…

    • Melissa

I think it is all locations. I just went to the living social site and it is under national deals.

  20. Deidre

Thanks hip, I’m new in my town and just drove by Sam’s Club today wondering if I could justify the cost of a membership! Turns out I can!

    • Anna Harmon

      sorry on the spelling, haha

  21. Amanda C

Here’s my link if anyone is interested: https://www.livingsocial.com/deals/628922?ref=share-link-post&r

We buy flour, yeast, rice, craisins, organic greens, spices and brown sugar there. It’s like paying 5 dollars (ish — I would probably not buy the cookies) for a membership, super deal!

    • Katie

If you don’t want to eat the cookies (neither would I), how about buying them and donating them to your local church or food kitchen?

Thanks for the info about what you buy! I never thought about craisins or rice (which I am out of). I calculated the other day that just based on buying milk at Sam’s instead of Safeway, my savings pay for my membership by 3.5 months into the year. Of course, this is different for every family, but I think for a large family who shops smart, it’s a winner.

  22. Sarah

I’d love someone to sign up under me -Ii’m looking for one more! – thanks so much!
