Sent from reader, Susan:

I just wanted to share the Easter baskets I will be gifting to my four teenaged sisters-in-law on Sunday. Most of the items are from deals I found on your site – so thank you! Here’s the breakdown:

* 3 pack socks from Foot Locker – FREE – buy one get one free, originally $9.99 a set, purchased with $20 Foot Locker Rewards card sent when I registered to be a rewards member (the youngest sister is getting a pair from Miss Matched instead, purchased on clearance at Michael’s – $1.99, originally $11.99!)
* Almay Make-Up Remover Wipes – free with in-store and manufacturer’s coupons from Walgreens, originally $5.99
* Personalized journals from Minted.com – free with credits, paid $1.25 to ship each, originally $16
* Matching pens – Michael’s, $1, originally $2, so half-price!
* Head massagers – Amazon deal, $1 each – now $1.85 (and MUCH more pricey at other stores!)
* Sally Hansen nail polish – CVS deal, originally $3.19, paid $1.32 each
* Ulta bath/shower/hair Smoothies – originally $4, paid $2.13 after coupon and rewards
* Flip-flops – $2.10 a pair from Silkies.com deal, originally $7
* Chocolate eggs from World Market, about $1 per basket (10% off a large bag, on sale for $7.99, originally priced at $9.99)

I also purchased the baskets for 10% off at World Market, and will reuse them each year, so even though they were also a great deal (not only were they 10% off, they came with Easter grass, a cello bag, and gift tag) I considered them an investment at $4.49 each.

So, the contents of each basket, if purchased WITHOUT deals, would have cost over $50. With all of these “Hip” deals, each basket was only $9.80! I was able to even pick out items in their favorite colors and in their individual styles. It seems the older our kiddos get, the more expensive the things they like. In this case, I think they’ll all be thrilled with the goodies – and I’m thrilled to have gotten such fabulous deals!

HAPPY FRIDAY! 😀

That’s awesome. Who knew that Michael’s had MissMatched socks?! I will have to keep an eye out. I love getting to see how others are putting their goody baskets together for Easter!

I found mismatched women’s ankle socks at Target today! 5
socks for $3. perfect for my teenager.

  12. Brandy

I have 2 young sons & everything in their baskets came from Target clearance. Lots of basket fillers I got at last year’s Easter clearance at 90% off. They’re even getting a $100 pool I got for 70% off last year & tons of pool toys!

    • Valerie

Me too! I have two little boys and their baskets are filled with Christmas and Valentine’s Target clearance items. I also got tons of plastic eggs last year at the Easter clearance. I was so excited to “shop” from my secret toy stash instead of having to buy lots of full priced Easter stuff. I did buy two bags of chocolate eggs to hide (with coupons!). I hope your boys get some warm weather to enjoy their pool! 🙂

    • Megan

I like to get my kids each a small toy in addition to their basket stuffers. I found a toy for each of them at 70% off at the after Christmas toy clearance at target!

  13. Kimka

    wow, nicely done! 🙂

  14. M

Those baskets are REALLY cute! What a nice sister-in-law—I am sure they will love it! Happy Easter 🙂

  15. Roxanne

Yes! I learned from the best 😉 My youngest is getting a riding helmet as a basket~won a $100 gift cert. on FB.. and a cute horse hat (free), nail polish (.50) from a Wal-Mart coupon, cute under shirts from Jockey promotion, hand lotion (free), R.L. Polo flip flops that were supposed to be $26. but got them for $1.00 with Piperlime promotion! And.. a few other things I’ve saved up like lip gloss etc.. free samples.. The most expensive thing was her $4.00 worth of candy which bought alot cause I used coupons at Wal-Mart!
Thank you for all your wonderful ideas and Happy Easter!

Adorable. I bought a bunch of clearanced toys at Target a few weeks ago and I’m going to use some of them for Easter baskets and some for upcoming birthdays etc.

  17. Bev

You did awesome! I think the girls will be talking about these for a long time. How fun!

  18. jennifer

Wow, you did great! Baskets are so cute and I wouldn’t mind having one of those for myself. I did a very similar thing with freebies and good deals from hip2save for my 3 kids. I did use one of those cheaper dollar store baskets but I wished I would have got a better quality basket. A year or so ago I gave kids heavier duty high quality baskets for easter then a few weeks later I collected the baskets when they got tired of them, waited till a day kids weren’t around, spray painted them, and put them up for the next year!

  19. jennifer

Oh and if you don’t wanna buy the easter grass shred junk mail or wrapping paper in paper shredder. Its actually less messy believe it or not. I got the real easter grass this year at dollar general because it’s $.50 for a small pack and a little goes a long way, lol. Happy Easter everybody!

  20. Ger

What a wonderful idea!!! Happy Easter!

  21. shannon

I also bought a lot of Valentine trinkets at TArget for 70% off which ended up being good fillers. I put crinkled up tissue paper in mine to make it seem more full.

  22. allie

So cute! Way to go! Lucky sisters!! HAPPY EASTER!!

Does anyone have inexpensive ideas for 3 teenage boys?? I am having a really hard time this year coming up with any good ideas……….and I don’t have much time left!

    • Meche

It might not save you tons buuut if you have access to a Costco our SAMs try movie tickets or you can grab a packet of 3 $10 iTunes gift cards. Then hrow in some candy or treats from the dollar store in there. If assuming they are less into toys and trinket type stuff now. So while you might spend a little more out of pocket as they grow older they probably will actually use and appreciate the stuff more.

      • Meche

Ooh or you could fill the basket with their favorite snacks that you usually say no to. That’s what I did for my husband. There are certain things that we see as more frivolous and not healthy so they rarely if ever make it into the house except for special occasions. So here come the Peeps, Buggles, Oreos, Strawberry Poptarts, and orange slices (which he calls his cough drops). Boys loooove food so maybe a basket filled with their favorites could be a fun treat…and maybe you throw in a gift certificate for a redbox movie for each boy.

  23. jennifer

I have all girls but how about chex mix, beef jerky, peanuts, playing cards, socks, samples of mens shampoo, soap, pens, maybe inexpensive tools, hunting or car magazines( sometimes a little pricey though), chewing gum, breath mints, or deodorant . I had a redken sample of mens shampoo we put in my daughters boyfriends valentines basket and he loved it.

  24. Lory

Teenage boys are so easy, get them what they use most!! My son (depending on what age) was always a clean freak (just himself, NOT HIS ROOM, LOL) so I would get him things like body spray, deodorant, hair gel, his fav low cut sox, (stuff like that-whatever it may be) & of course all on sale, I was a single mom & never had much $ so I always had to save…. Sure wish I knew @ hip2save then!!! Good luck & Happy Easter to all! 🙂

  25. Jessica

When is the best time to hit up Target for clearance?

    • Alexcia

Best time to hit Target if your store has anything left is the day AFTER Easter! Its not possible to wait until the merchandise drops to 70% off, there’s usually nothing left that is at my store. I’ll take half off if I can get what I want and store for the following year. Good Luck!

      • Jessica

Thanks I will be there at 8 when they open!

  26. maysie

How fun! 🙂 I bet your sisters will love these. Great job with the savings!
