Hey!…my family is from the south and those pans could definitely be seasoned into something that could make some tasty fried chicken among other things. There are pans like that in our family that have been used for at least 100 years. Of course ours aren’t rusty from lack of use.
Can you please share how you clean them?My pan has some kind of greasy dirt in it and I can’t seem to get it clean. I don’t use it that often but would like to start now.TIA
There is a video done by Cooks Illustrated that my husband and I watched on how to take care of cast iron and we now season them after every use. In the video you clean a cast iron skillet with oil and salt. You should heat the pan slightly to warm the oil. Use the salt oil mixture to scrub the pan. Once you get all the debris off and rinse it. Put it on the stove top and heat until any remaining water has evaporated. Then coat with a light layer of oil while the pan is still hot. Let it cool and wipe off remaining oil. If you need to re-season a pan that looks like the one above it may take a few coatings.
Just looked on line to review and Cooks Illustrated now swears by flax seed oil.
The older the pan the better it is.

Love it!! on the side note, did anyone ever saw in retail cast iron item with rounded bottom. I am from Russia and use those a lot. It is called “chugunok or kotelok” there. Can’t find anything like this here

I use one of those and we use those back home too. If you have an Indian or any other asian stores around you they might have them. I bought mine 3 years ago from some indian store and still use it. It’s a good quality and I love it. HTH.

I actually clicked the google smell link before realizing it was April 1st… very creative April Fools 🙂 last year while pregnant we told my family we were having twins, this year we’re tryin to get pregnant (no pregnancy jokes this year!!)
