If you’re headed to Target soon and needing to snag a few produce items, here are a few deals you may want to add to your shopping list! First, head on over to the Target Cartwheel App where you can save the following new produce coupons to your account:

*5% off all fresh berries
*5% off all packaged tomatoes 10-16 oz
*5% off whole cantaloupe

*5% off Market Pantry, Green Giant or Klondike bagged potatoes
*5% off fresh bagged apples
*5% off fresh bagged oranges

Even sweeter, you can also stack these Cartwheel coupons with the Target mobile coupons for either $1.00 off fresh vegetable or $1 off fresh fruit purchase when you text PICNIC to 827438 through expires 6/12/13.

Check out the 4 produce items below that my sidekick Mary was able to snag at her local Super Target for only $8.88! She snagged a 5lb bag of Market Pantry Russet Potatoes, a 2lb container of Driscoll’s Strawberries, a whole Cantaloupe, and a 10 oz pack of Juno Bites  Snacking tomatoes. She saved a total of $2.58 by adding the Cartwheel coupons to her account and using the 2 mobile coupons…not too shabby!

Do you have any tips for saving on fresh fruits & vegetables?!

Ugh, I was just in Target and the stupid site wouldn’t load. 😛 I wish I could print these coupons (like we can the mobile coupons) instead of having to rely on the site and internet working.

That tongue sticking out smiley doesn’t truly represent how I feel, it looks too happy.

You can print the scanny barcode thing and bring that in. Just load things to your cartwheel before you go to the store and bring your barcode. I think you can do it for mobile coupons too.

      • Amanda

Ah, I will try that, I didn’t realize it was do-able. Too soon I get old, too late I get smart. 😉

Another way to save on fresh fruits & vegetables is to use Aldis. Not only is their produce less but Walmart will price match their add if you shop there.

    • Alicia

I do this all of the time…our Aldi’s produce is not very good, so I shop at Walmart.

    • Dayna

We just got an Aldis near Houston TX, but I haven’t gone yet. I usually shop at a place called Joe Vs (owned by HEB) or I shop at the local vegetable market

is the 5% really worth it? i mean i dont think so, i havent done more then read colin’s first post about this program, because really, 5%? i understand that every bit counts, but im pretty sure that i can get produce for way cheaper then it is at target anyway at other stores… way cheaper then 5% off.

It’s not necessarily the so-called “small” discount of 5%. It’s the fact that you can STACK this discount with other discounts up to three times. For example, if there’s an item for which a manufacturer and Target coupon exists as well as Cartwheel, you can use ALL THREE discounts. It takes some items that aren’t even on sale and makes them available for pennies or a huge percentage discount when you are able to “triple-stack” like this. Throw in an actual sale or clearance item and it’s kind of like quadruple stacking….

Also, common knowledge about couponing in general is that brand name coupons only exist; rarely are there coupons for generics. Here again, if there is a Target brand (up & up, Archer Farms, Market Pantry) item for which a Target coupon is available and a Cartwheel discount, you can save both ways.

I have heard (and experienced) that many Targets across the country are not coupon friendly. I am very lucky to live in an area where the couple of Targets available to me ARE coupon friendly, and I’m more than happy to give them my business instead of Walmart.

I do price matches at Walmart. Eg through tomorrow, broccoli is $.99 at Winn Dixie. I buy the produce that’s on special, not necessarily what I would like to buy. Works for me.

Anyone else having problems with rude cashiers who don’t know what to do with the Cartwheel papers? I always have to explain the program to them and they act like I am taking advantage of them or trying to pull a scam.

    • DEBBIE

yes, they always ask me “what’s this?” but at least it’s not like walmart where they search my bags to see if i bought what the coupon is for, on every single coupon! that’s not a coupon friendly place at all

  6. Erin

Too bad the produce at my Targets is horrible.

  7. Stacy

I’ve never been able to get those $1 off mobile coupons for produce to work. It will take off everything but the produce ones.

    • DEBBIE

me too, even went to customer service and the lady told me she couldn’t do anything about it and that they wish we would either use paper coupons or phone and not mix them, i was upset

      • Tarri

Mine usually fall to the bottom of the receipt.

    • Stacy

The mobile coupon didn’t work for me either. The customer service rep did give me the money but I had to wait in line at cs for 5 minutes. She said it is because they get different brands of strawberries and not all of them are entered correctly in the system as “berries” . Just remember to double check your receipt to make sure these offers are ringing up right.

If you have “Mexican Markets” in your area and are not pricematching at Wal-Mart you are crazy!!! We have several different ones in the area and last week I got avacadoes 6 for $1, tomatoes 3# for $1, cucumbers 9 for $1, bananas 3# for $1, etc, etc, etc.

  9. Laura

$3.89 for strawberries?! I got them for $1.88 at Kroger a few days ago!

  10. shannon

it looks like 2 lb berries but i’m not sure.

  11. Tarri

I have save $6 in the last 3-4 weeks using Cartwheel. Thanks Collin for posting about this program.

Is there a trick to adding items to your Cartwheel cart right from your phone? I have the app on there, but when I tap the items to try to add them to my cart, the add button is not on there so it only flips the card over to see the details when I tap it, then when I tap again, it goes back to the main screen without adding. I end up having to add only through my computer so adding and deleting is not an option for me right at the store in case I find a good deal on the fly. Also does anyone know if you add items, print the list, then delete them from your cart to add more items if the printed list will still scan to give you the discounts? I hate being bound to a specific number of items in the cart!

I have recently found the discount produce section at Kroger (never realized it was even there!). Sometimes the fruits/veggies are in good shape, but most times they are starting to rot. One time, I was able to get 5 oranges for .99 and 6 ears of corn for .99. They frequently have bananas on clearance which I’m sure would be good for smoothies or baking! And of course the bagged salads that are about to expire are usually discounted too.

I figured it out why I can’t/add delete to my phone. According to their support site, you need to download the Google Chrome App to your phone and use it through that. Unfortunately the Chrome App isn’t compatible with my Verizon HTC phone. Looks like I’ll have to try using my daughter’s iPod for this instead in store so I can add/delete on the fly,

    • Stacy

I think an iPod would only work if your store has wifi.
