Tire rotation is great, but be prepared for them to tell you ya have hundreds of dollars in repairs necessary on the breaks. You know how that goes…

Actually, we have had our brakes done at Sears for over 10 years now. There have been a handful of times in the last couple years that we took our cars in thinking we need brake work and we left there with them telling us we didn’t need anything done or the work that we did need done was inexpensive. We have grown to trust them because of this. This may be the case only at the one we go to but it is our experience there.

I bought tires at Sears years ago and they had removed a pin near the tires which could have been serious. Thank goodness my mechanic caught it. My husband also had problems with Sears years ago. He also bought tires and they told him they could not give him his car back because it was not safe to drive on the road (it was a fairly new car). It cost him $1,500 to have repairs done. This was years ago so unless they have changed (I doubt it). I would be just be aware if you go there. Wish I would have know before hand.

I know. This is before we met. He now has more backbone:) when we were dating I took my car to a local garage to have a belt replaced and they did something to the water pump. Well I went back to the garage and let them have it and wasn’t charged. My soon to be husband was impressed (thank goodness it didn’t scare him away lol).

I believe people may have both good and bad experiences, depending on the particular mechanic and perhaps even how they “feel” that day. We’ve had both types of experiences at major retailers (like Sears) and local mechanic shops. (Honda’s certified technicians left a cap off after an oil change once, and it caused a huge mess all over my engine that they had to steam clean.)

We are a military family and have utilized Sears — especially for batteries and tires — all over the US because of their warranty program and ability to go to ANY Sears location. They always make it right for us!
