HOORAY! We are a family of 7, 2 dogs, and 13 other pets! The dogs sometimes get lost in the shuffle so a box of treats for them IS WONDERFUL!! Thank you sooo much H2S for all you do! Btw, I paid for the shipping with my Jingo credit card! You guys are lifesavers! 🙂

    • irene

They seem to know when a package is for them, too. It’s so fun to see how excited they get when they tear into the box!

      • Margarita

LOL! Tell me about it! If this site would allow videos I’d post it! 😉

  2. kelly

I foster puppies so this would be great!

  3. Christine

Does anyone know if I can cancel right away and still receive the free box, or should I wait for the free box to come in first?

    • ashley

I would wait until the box ships otherwise they may cancel your order.

Several years ago we adopted a rescue dog that required very expensive allergy shots. In looking for ways to save money, I found two companies that sell pet supplies that are way cheaper than 1-800PetMeds or purchasing supplies directly from my vet. Since that time, I have used two companies exclusively–KV Pet Supply and Omaha Vaccine Company.

Just as example, a 12 pack of Heartguard for dogs 51-100 lbs is $93.98 with 1-800PetMeds and only $72.95 with KV Pet Supply. My vet’s office will call in the prescription for the heartworm medication so it’s basically a no-brainer.

I was also able to purchase Prednisone for my pup at a VERY discounted rate when compared to my vet’s office or local pharmacy.

I now purchase IAMS dog food at BJ’s because I can stack a $1 MFR coupon with a $5 BJ’s coupon. It is much less expensive than the grocery store or Target.

Collin, could you possibly do a post about how your readers save money taking care of their beloved pets? You and your readers always have such great ideas for ways to save!

    • Mindy

What a great idea! I would love that as a post!

    • Sasha

My darn Vet caught on very early when folks were requesting Rx from their vets to get meds elsewhere. They now charge a $5. fee to write the Rx, and ONLY when you come in for a complete ck-up! Another $130. Ugh!

      • bunny

Sasha, sounds like you need a new vet 😉

    • Donna

In case people don’t know, 1-800Petmeds will match prices for online pet stores if you find a better price somewhere else. I always search for the best price online for my dog’s heartworm and flea and tick medication and then call 1-800Petmeds with that price. I have never had a problem getting the lowest price I can find and their customer service department if very friendly. Hth:)

      • bunny

I think 1-800PetMeds is generally more expensive because they advertise on national TV.

I don’t go to them for a price match. I’d just rather support those companies that always have a significantly better price. Just means less hassle and running around too. 😉

      • Donna

Here’s the 1800Petmeds price match policy on their website:
        “Price Match

See a lower price somewhere? We’ll match it!

We offer great savings to our customers with Free Standard Shipping on orders over $39*. However, if you find a lower price including shipping on the identical product from a Vet-VIPPS® accredited online pet pharmacy, we will honor that price at the time of order as long as the product is FDA/EPA approved for sale in the United States. The price being matched must be a product dispensed by an accredited licensed-pharmacy or veterinarian residing in the United States.

The price considered will be the total price (including shipping charges, handling fees, and other charges that may apply).

Price-match products are not eligible for additional special offers.”

    • Samantha

Yes! A post like that would be very helpful! I have one Boston Terrier and two kittens, also my Mom has THREE Boston Terriers too!! It would be nice to know if other people have some tricks/tips for the furry friends 🙂

Has anyone ever had a problem canceling with this company?

    • sarah

was wondering the same. im not seeing an account just email saying hey your getting the box now. i like to log in to an actual account and see info and view deals etc. im not quite sure how this will work out. but im trying it. and dang i just got a rebate / prepaid card in the mail today too. but used my bank card…i wish i would have waited until the mail ran today :p

      • Teri

I am trying to cancel right now and can not. I received the box today 07/22. It was a nice box, but not worth $30, the monthly charge on the membership agreement.

The fine print says that you must cancel before the 24th or each month or the next month ships and you will be charged.

:you may cancel your ongoing membership through the account page on the Website. You must update your account on the Website by the first day of the month to cancel the current month’s shipment. IF YOU DO NOT CANCEL PRIOR TO THE TWENTY-FOURTH DAY OF A CALENDAR MONTH, YOU WILL BE CHARGED FOR THAT MONTH’S SHIPMENT OF PRODUCTS TO YOU. All cancellation requests received after the twenty-fourth day of a calendar month will apply to the following calendar month.”

I can not locate the accounts page, in order to cancel. No one answers the phone, no access to instant chat. They are not responding to email queries either. So, not sure if this was a good idea. I called my bank and cancelled my CC. Good luck. Pls post if you can figure out how to cancel.

Costco just started carrying their own brand (Kirkland) of flea and tick control for dogs!

    • bunny

Jennifer, do you happen to have prices you can post? I can get a 6 month supply of Frontline for $72.95 from KV Pet Supply. Just curious if Costco’s prices are better.

    • bunny

On second thought, don’t send me the price info on this product! I just went online to Amazon and out of 54 ratings, 49 people give the Costco Flea and Tick only one star!!

Go to Amazon and check out the ratings for Kirkland Signature Water Resistant 6-Month Flea & Tick Control for Large Dogs, 32-79 lbs. You will be shocked!

  7. Michelle

The Kirkland (Costco) brand of frontline is $20 for a 3 month supply. You can have your vet send in the scrip for heart guard to the Costco pharmacy too to get that cheaper.

  8. Jen

We have found Drs. foster and Snith to be the lowest price for iverhart max (generic heart hard max). They call the vet to verify the Rx (dog has to have been in for a heartworm test in order for the vet to OK the Rx). Excellent customer service and about 1/3 the cost of 1800petmeds, too.

We go through PetcareRx online for flea and tick. They always start out more expensive but have lots of stackable codes that brim te price way down.

Between the two, I pay about $130 for annual flea/tick/ and heartworm (we use the max vs regular b/c it protects against tapeworm….which is carried by the bunnies and mice my dog tends tonind and eat…) for our 70lb dog.

We are also lucky to have a super healthy dog that THRIVES on basic Purina. We get it on sale plus coupons for about $19/40lb bag. The vet was shocked when we said that was the food he was on….and told us to keep doing what we’re doing. I have thought about switching him to something “healthier” but the vet literally told us he’s in phenomenal shape (he’s a lean mutt in a town full of overfed labs). We figure he must be supplementing his diet with rabbits etc. he finds out in our yard/woods. 😉

    • bunny

This is exactly why I LOVE HIP2SAVE! Thank you Jen for the info.

I called PetcareRx and got 20% off Frontline Plus. I saved $11.50 off what I thought was the cheapest price on the Web. One year of Frontline Plus (45-88 lb. dog) was $134.39 using the discount code! Thank you so much for the savings 🙂

  9. detra

Do any of these companies sell trifexis? Both the vets around here sell it for like $17 something a month but not sure about the 6 month package because I wanted to make sure it worked first since it doesn’t necessarily kill ticks.

  10. Jessica

******MY DOG BOX ARRIVED WITH $5.80 POSTAGE OWED!!! YET I ALREADY PAID $4.99 FOR SHIPPING! I AM TRYING TO CANCEL NOW, AND AM DISPUTING THE PURCHASE WITH MY BANK OF AMERICA CREDIT CARD. LOVE THIS FEATURE WITH MY CARD!! DID ANYONE ELSE HAVE AN ISSUE LIKE MINE??***************

  11. Jessica

I cancelled last month and those jerks just charged me $30 for next month! UGH!

    • Carrie

      Me too!

      • Carrie

So I just called them at (888) 364-8654 and told them that I had sent an email on the 23rd (had to be sent before the 24th) and he looked it up. He apologized for the mix-up, said he would refund the charge and to keep the box. There was no hassle at all; I hope it’s not too good to be true, but give them a call and see what happens!

  12. Erin

I’m pretty upset. I never got my free box. Never heard anything from them since I signed up. And just saw they charged my card again!! And never once did I get a shipment email or anything. I have nothing and I’m out the $4.99 and the $29.99. They aren’t answering their phones either 🙁

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I am so sorry, Erin! Have you tried contacting them at this phone number: (888) 364-8654
