I know you posted about some Toys R Us stuff yesterday, but just to add to that post… I’ve been stocking up in the Toys R Us stores in North Carolina. Lots of the books are marked down to $4.98 AND have $4 & $5 off peelies on them.. I’ve gotten about 20 books/sets for FREE after coupons this week. Some for my daughter, my nephew & others for stashing in my gift closet for birthday parties, etc.

All the TAG books were free (photos of some of what I got are attached and also a photo of the peelie coupons so people know what to keep an eye out for). If they’re not FREE, they’ll only be 98 cents. Currently, Toys R Us has a sale taking $5 off ALL TAG books so these paired nicely! Some of the books were not priced correctly, so be sure to price check![/h2s_box]

Before you head out to your local Toys R Us, head here and print this coupon valid for 30% off any one clearance item (expires 7/13/13). Note that this coupon does exclude clothing, shoes and several other items (see coupon for full exclusions).

I bought that banzai waterslide last summer at CVS for $2.49 and its junk. Its not nearly that wide and the pool part on the end is tiny too.

    • Heather

thanks I was kind of on the fence about this! I think we’ll just try the redneck water slide with the big tarp and some dish soap lol

    • Heather

I got the water slide on clearance at the end of the summer last year and saved it until this summer for the kids to play. For only a few bucks, the water slide is definitely worth it. My kids (ages 4 & 10) have played on it quite a few times with no issues. I wouldn’t pay full price for it.. but for only a few dollars, it was a great way to spend hours outside for my kids. ๐Ÿ™‚

      • Shanshan

Agree these water slide things are cheap and fun. Got 2 when clearanced at CVS for $2.49 last summer. Best buy ever!!! I take it when visiting grandma (clean house with no toys = boring!!!), and grandma and her roommate had a great time sitting around watching my 3 kids having fun on their front lawn. 2 weeks ago I took it to the camping trip, so younger kids who’s not into fishing, canoeing, paintball and Frisbee golf all gathered around and had a blast. Smartest buy ever! Even if it’s $5 I’d stock up. My kids are worth it.

  2. Alicia

Where do you get the coupons for the tag books?

    • Alicia

      Never mind found my answer…peelies!!

  3. Diane

Are TAG books stand alone products, or do you have to buy a system to go with them? Thanks for your help!

    • Elise

There is a TAG pen which reads the books out-loud and other interactions with the pages, but you *could* still read the storybooks w/o it.

    • Barb

You can read the book without the pen, we do that alot at bedtime, but you need the pen if you want to be able to do the activities and games within the book. hth

    • asw0627

U have to buy the tag reader system and it reads the books aloud. U could just buy the books and let your child read them on their own. I purchased the tag junior for my son and it was $30 so im thinking the tag runs about the same price. HTH!

    • Heather

To follow up with what everyone else said, my daughter has the Write & Draw set (was $19.99.. so $3.50 shipped is a great deal! They’re also FREE with peelies at Toys R Us!).. she’s 4 & usees it without the pen most of the time. It has taught her how to write her letters (upper case & lowercase) and has different activity books in it.

  4. patti

i bought some clearance items and it didnt have my shoprunner as an option:-(
maybe not available on all the clearance items or something

    • Emily

Not all of Toys R Us stuff are shoprunner eligible. I hate that!

  5. Annie

Wahoo! Got the Bonzai slide. ๐Ÿ™‚ Kids are happy.

  6. Laura

I second that the Bonzai slide is junk. It was a waste of money. It didn’t last very long – maybe a couple of weeks? Just a heads up!

    • Annie

We have had one in the past as well. In my opinion, it is worth the few dollars for the kids to have a few afternoons of fun. I would spend more than that to take them to the movies or ice cream. lol

      • Kathy

I agree with you. For $3.something it is a great afternoon of fun. If it only lasts for a few hours, it is cheaper than any activity we would leave home to do. I mean the gas to get to our free/cheap activities is more $$ than that.

        • Stacy

No complaining here….it’s so worth the $3 for an afternoon of fun. Like Kathy said, the gas to leave home would be more than that. ๐Ÿ™‚ You can’t really spend only $3 and expect great quality anyway.

      • Stacy

I agree Annie, it’s worth the few dollars for a couple of afternoons, even if you have to throw it out after a couple times.

    • Megan

Not to be a “Debbie Downer”, but if this toy only lasts a few afternoons then you throw it away, that is a waste. That’s a lot of plastic to throw in the trash for a few hours of fun even if it does “only cost $3”.

      • Tia

Well if no one buys them, I’m sure they get disposed of so what’s the difference? Whether it’s after 1 time or 50 times, it’s going to the recycle bin eventually.

  7. Barb

was going to get the slide then read the bad reviews online so just got the vapor rub for 2.23 shipped. thanks collin.

    • M

I ordered the vapor rub last week. The expiration date is November 2013. It should still be effective after that, but I don’t know for how long.

  8. Nikki

I got my son the Tag Jr system for Christmas, do you need the pen for these or can they be used with the little dog figure that came with the Jr system?

    • Stacey

Regular Tag books don’t work with the Tag Jr pen, but Tag Jr books do work with the regular Tag pen. HTH

  9. jessica

Ot, i got an email from thred up today titled “forgot something?” Says I have a $10 credit, I normally delete their emails as they send them daily so just a heads up

  10. Heather C.

Uuuugh! I just bought the same water slide a couple weeks ago at the dollar store for $10!! The kiddos use it almost every day, and it’s holding up just fine. Not sure how they could tear up, really. DEFINITELY worth buying one for that price. Wish I’d have waited to buy my kids one! ๐Ÿ™‚

  11. Christina C

Where do you put the coupon code in at?

    • rams

goto regular checkout instead of paypal then u can change it back to paypal after applying the promocode

      • Christina C

        Thank you

  12. Nicole

Does anyone know which tag books are the clearanced ones so that I can look out for them? Thanks.

    • Heather

Chuggington, Chicka Chicka Boom Boom, Petpals Sticker Story Time, the Write & Draw Activity Set (comes in a box – it’s a $19.99 set), and Madagascar are all ones I was able to get free. Make sure to price check them, if they say $4.98 – the $5 peelies make them free. The Madagascar book didn’t even need a coupon.. it rang up free! My best friend lives in another city and also was able to get these.

    • Heather

Oh, and you can use the 30% off clearance coupon too!

      • Nicole

        Thanks !

  13. Stephanie

I bought a step stool for my toddler for $6.81 shipped. Great timing since I’m potty training him soon.

  14. rachael

Just got back from my store, the tag books were 9.98. Hope everyone else finds the better price!

    • Tia

What city are you in, Rachel?

    • Heather

If you scan them, they will be marked down to $4.98 bc toys r us is having a sale this week taking $5 off the total price. Then, use the coupon on top of that. ๐Ÿ˜‰

      • Danielle

Mine says $5 too, but the total price was 14.99 or whatever. So do you mean that they will actually be $5 if I scan them?

        • Heather

If the price ends in an 8 at Toys R Us, that means it was on clearance.. so it should have been marked down to $9.98 on clearance. Then, the sale would take $5 off, making them only $4.98. Use the $4 or $5 off peelies and that should have made them cheap or free.

If they were $14.99 then they aren’t on clearance.

    • Ger

I ran into the same problem. I believe the $5 off was already taken off the list price so the books are now $9.98. It looks like some TRU stores are inconsistent with prices at the register. I also ran into A LOT of the books without peelies. Either TRU employees are pulling them off or other shoppers are. ๐Ÿ™

  15. j k

My store only accepted one coupon per trans. but was able to get two tag books. ‘Giraffes can’t dance’ was $4.98 and the $5off auto applied so no need for coupon and ‘I Spy’ was 9.99 with $5 off store coupon and the $4 off peelie ended up to be 99cents. Only a few were under $10 and most were higher.

  16. Allison

The only one I could found was the Chuggington on clearance for $4.98. I used the 30% off coupon and $4.00 off. i got it for .24! Sweet …thank you!

  17. axhilli

I found the Write and Draw Activity set and the Lean to Write and Draw with Mr. Pencil both were $4.98 after the instore discount and free after the $5.00 peelie. I also got some color wonder stuff and used the $1.00 peelies and the buy one get 2 free sale.

I paid with tax only $6.48 out of pocket for 6 color wonder items and 4 of the free leap frog tag reading sets. There are still some of the free tag reading sets at my local store and also a lot of color wonder items. Plus I have a merchandise credit for TRU so I didn’t spend any cash what a GREAT DEAL.

    • Heather

      SO awesome!!

  18. houseofrana

i’m so sad that i didn’t see this post earlier!! my store is closed now so I’m going to have to wait til the morning to go. i’m going nuts here with excitement… really hoping i find some deals tomorrow!

    • Ashley

Check online first before you drive all the way to the store. It shows you online some of the included titles for $4.98 and you can check to see if they’re in stock at your store. Its only tag books and not tag junior and none of them were in stock at my NC stores. Just fyi. I wish i had known before i went to the store.

      • houseofrana

Thanks Ashley!! I was so ready to jump in my car and drive 20+ minutes to my store. I checked their hours online and saw that they just closed but it didn’t occur to me to check inventory. Thanks again!

        • Heather

It might be worth a trip to go out there. When I looked the books up online and tried to see if they were in stock at my store, they said they were out of stock. However, when I went to the store there was over 30 of them! I don’t know why they didn’t show the stock online.. but I was glad I went.

  19. Queenjen87

I got the write and draw with mr pencil, chicks chicks, chuggington, petpals, all for .98 or free. I also picked up Dora and Cinderella for $6 and the leapster explorer for 14.97 (wish I had printed the 30% coupon at work!!) great deals!!

  20. Emily

All the peelies had been taken off the books I saw.

  21. Beth

I went to TRU today and found the Tag books on sale for $5 off the normal price. I then used a $4 coupon for each book I purchased. So my total cost was $6 per book, which was more than half off.

    • Erin

If you watch prices, you should be able to pay $4 or less per Tag book. Lots of times, you’ll find them free by combining clearance or sales and coupons.

  22. Ally

Target has some Tag books on clearance also ( I saw buzz books for $6.98) so if you have those coupons you can possibly score them at target for $1.98 also

  23. Carolyn

I just got back from my Toys R Us, they had signs posted saying “$5 off Tag books priced $9.99 – $14.99”, so the clearance books would not work. I did scan them just in case and it was a no go. Most of the books had the coupons taken off as well ๐Ÿ™

  24. Dawn Karageorgis

I got 6 Tag books for $.98 each using the $4 off coupons that were on them. The $5 off coupons are not good for the single books, they are for the boxed sets, as stated on the coupon. I just went today and there were a few more single books left so if you check at your store you may still get lucky. The cashier was amazed ๐Ÿ™‚

  25. terezia

My store had tons of peelies, but not tons of clearance books. Most books were ringing 9.98 at the scanner. I did find the sticker book and the learn to draw with Mr Pencil, the book was .98 and the Mr Pencil was free. No other clearance books at my store. Still worth the trip.

  26. tam childers

Got the 432ct pampers babywipes on clearance with the blast30 code with free shoprunner shipping for $7.57

  27. Ayesha

I went to 2 toys r us stores and non of the books were on clearance and one did have the peelies. I went to Target and they have many books on clearance for 6.98 and the books had the peelies. So I bought them there. I also made a trip to walmart, none are on clearance but all the books have the peelies so I peeled a ton since the coupons are good through next month I’m going to save them in case the books from walmart go clearance. Because online they are clearance but in store they are not.

    • Trinity

Oh wow… so you just went to the store and peeled a ton? How interesting….
