[h2s_box]Hi! I saw a yellow box in my Kmart ad for this week highlighting a toy clearance sale at $1.99 and $3.99 pricepoints, so I went in to check it out. I got some AMAZING deals! My store had everything that was $1.99 or $3.99 in one section. Found a Hot Wheels Ballistiks set for $3.99 (orig. $26.99), a Zoobles princess castle playset for $3.99 (orig. $19.99), a Leapster Explorer camera for $3.99 (orig. $24.99), a singing Cody Simpson doll for $3.99 (orig. 29.99) and some Koosh ball sets for $1.99. They also had a bunch of their more expensive clearance toys all down to a $9.99 pricepoint like the collector’s Holiday Barbie (orig. $39.99) and these cool night vision watches that can take pictures and record video and audio, (orig. $44.99). Thanks for sharing! I’m going to check ours out tonight & hope they have some good finds. I wanted to stop in at Office Depot for their 25 cent 24pk crayons anyways & they’re right next door. Time to stock up for the kids & OCC bins!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

You are welcome! Hope you find lots of great deals as well!

      • Heather

Woohoo! I DID find some great deals & wanted to stop back to say THANKS again! They had Disney Princess 2pk barbies (Belle & the prince, Tiana & Naveen) for only $3.99 (regularly $29.99)! They also had Snow White’s Royal Party Palace for $3.99 (regularly $29.99), TONS of other nice Barbies & Bratz dolls for $3.99. For my nephew & son, I was able to get the Star Wars Electronic Blaster & The Hot Wheels Balistiks toy for only $3.99. My son wanted the hot wheels toy at Toys R Us last week but since it was $15.. I convinced him to save his money for a better sale.. glad I did! You rock!

Does anyone know when the Target toy clearance starts? I’ve been checking every couple days, ours is 40 minutes away, and haven’t really seen much yet.

    • Stef

On totally target it says it should happen the 3rd week of July?

      • Theresa

Ours has already started (Chicago area) however it’s at 30-50% . Last year I didn’t see 70% until the first week of August .

        • Heather

Ours has started. PA some 50%.

      • Ger

3 Targets within distance of where I work have already marked down toys to 50% here in Las Vegas, NV.

    • jennifer

Lots of 30 percent off in Jackson Michigan

  3. jennifer

      • jennifer

Just a thought before everyone purchases these “crap” toys (IMO–with the possible exception of the above Sesame Street toy) for birthdays, grandkids, family, etc.—as a parent I absolutely hate these toys. It’s always obvious to me when someone who gives a gift has gone through the Clearance section. Gifts don’t matter (and I teach my kids that), but if you’re going to give one, make sure it’s something that YOU or your child would actually want and maybe even has some thought into it, and that it isn’t stupid. Why do you think these all are on Clearance anyway? Granted, I love me a good clearance “gift” present that I can stock up for the many birthday parties my 6 kids are invited to. I got a dozen cute pink heart banks for $1 each at Walmart last Valentine’s that we use for “girl” presents throughout the year, that we combine with a candy and a cute pink coin purse from Joann’s (using a coupon) and then add a $1 bill or $5 bill (depending on if it’s close friend or family or not). Sorry to vent!

    • animity

Totally agree with you. I always ask myself, do I want my kids to have this and if the answer is no then I move on…

    • virginia

I agree…it’s obvious when my kids get a toy that was a clearance find. I know it’s the thought that counts…but that’s just it…the only thought is that it was cheap. I would rather you spend a couple dollars and buy a coloring book and crayons (for young kids) or for girls fun hair clips/headbands from Walgreens. There are cheap gifts that won’t end up in the trash if you try.

      • Christine

I also agree. I buy clearance to donate at Christmas and will only but things my daughter or nephew would like. Also I will not buy toys I have no idea what they are (like some posted). I try to get classics–matchboxes, barbies, little people, etc.

    • Elaine

I agree about the quality and understand where you are coming from. It’s hard being tactful in these situations. Maybe some people think it’s better to give something than nothing? IDK.

    • Ketsy

I agree as well. Sometimes $5 gift card to a pizza place works better than things I end up throwing away. I’ve gifted $5 – $10 to Dunkin Donuts or to a fast food etc when Im low on funds. The moms always seem happy about it. 😀

    • Heather

I will agree & disagree with you. I scout clearance and big sales like it’s nobody’s business (lol) BUT one thing I will say is that I don’t purchase junk toys even if it’s an incredible deal. If my son/daughter wouldn’t play with it, I won’t purchase it even to donate. I’m super glad I went to Kmart today after Collin’s post.. I got Disney Princess 2 pack Barbies that were regularly $29.99 for $3.99 (Belle & the Prince, Tiana & Naveen), Snow White house with snow white to play with for $3.99 & a few other great boys toys. Sometimes it’s hit or miss, you just have to search a little. 🙂

    • Cara

And while I do have a “gift closet/rainy day” collection for my own daughter, she LOVES to go choose a gift for her friends when it’s their birthday. I obviously did it when she was younger, but she’s only 4 and she puts serious thought into it already. A year ago at only 3 she wandered a toy store saying “Well, I know she likes cats and ballerinas so I need to find something like one of those” and ended up picking out an adorable ballerina doll. I had a Melissa and Doug brownie set in my stash that I had thought about giving this friend but my daughter got WAY more joy out of giving what she picked and telling her friend “I got this because you love ballerinas!”

    • VictoriaBF

Your comment sounds kind of impolite to me. As for your rhetorical question “Why do you think these all are on Clearance anyway?”, the obvious answer it’s because new products arrive and they need space! Target runs clearance up to 90 % all the time and they clearance brand name high quality merchandise.

  5. Sarah

I bought the Cookie Monster kitchen for my kids for Christmas and not happy with it. It’s small and constantly falls apart. It’s headed for the trash. Not sturdy at all. Buyers beware!

    • Kristina

Yeah I bought the same one at Target toy clearance and its not that great. I have to prop it against the wall so it doesn’t fall backwards while my daughter plays with it. It’s not bad for $18 ( which is what I paid for it, but I definitely wouldn’t pay more!).

    • Maggie

Really? My son loves it and it has never fallen apart on us! We do have it against a wall so it doesn’t fall backward, but that’s not really a big deal. It is smaller than a big kitchen you might get, but it’s really meant for smaller kids-3 and under, I think. I got it cheap during Target’s toy clearance and it was totally worth it.

  6. paula

I agree about the Cookie Monster Kitchen, not what I expected but do not throw it away, I would donate it, I am sure some kid that has no toys would not mind it being cheap, lol.

  7. Liz

Just a thought but when my twins turned 7 and had a birthday party with their classmates they asked to bring a non- perishable food item instead of gifts.I suggested it and gave them the option to decide suggesting they look around and see how blessed they are. They decided it was a good idea and they dropped off all the food collected and what we added to balance out what we had gotten to our small church’s food pantry. They never regretted their decision, and I think the other parents really liked it as everyone was very generous.

    • Christine

      What a great idea:)

  8. Tara Stuart

If you’re going to complain, get off the site. Colin is trying to help those who are interested in creating a gift stash closet and I love all the help she gives! I give to toys for tots annually and stumble upon foster children w/ next to nothing all the time. So thank you Colin!!! It drives me crazy when I go to read all the comments to see if I can get come extra ideas and there are ppl on a rant, trying to talk ppl out of the listed idea. People can make decisions for themselves. COlin did not ask any of you to review and rate the toys -so don’t. And w/ that said my 1st rant is over.

    • Christine

And you are complaining about others complaining………no one is making you read every post. It was a suggestion. Why would I buy another child a toy I would not buy my own child!

  9. Ashley

Wow. I hope I never get invited to your child’s party. Many of the postings are SO negative. The sad thing is, you all have children who I hope grow up to be nothing like you. I worked in child care and the kids we had there were thankful for any toy. It was something new and different. Plus if you remember being a kid, having fun wasn’t about the toy, it was about having an imagination…

    • Tara Stuart

Thank you Ashley, Colin works so hard and it drives me nutty when people take the time to try and reverse her suggestions -meh.

      • Christine

Of course we all know Colin works hard and we all appreciate what she does. She has saved a lot of people a lot of money. So we are not to have a difference of opinion from anybody else. It was suggestions. I (as I am sure a few others) am not going to buy a cheap toy just because it is cheap. My store had Barbies, Cabbage Patch Dolls, Matchboxes, Cars toys, etc. I would much rather donate a toy I know will last than something cheap. Think of those children going back to school after the holiday and not wanting to tell their classmates what they received because it fell apart shortly after they received it. Also I look at what I am purchasing for my own children and donate the same quality.

I just came home from kmart. I got tons of toys that were priced 10.99 or more for 1.99 … I now have plently of toys in my toy stash for gifts and such.. plus I did notice there were tons of coupon machines out as well. I was in heaven today.. I got over 300 $ off stuff for 50 bucks.. I was pretty happy

  11. Janet

We have the Life game shown. My kids love it. You play with your ipad in the middle of the board. It keeps track of everything, and has cute little videos for all of your moves. I would recommend it.

  12. Destinee

Just got home from Kmart and am highly dissappointed. They didn’t have much left…but I did grab the Cars Spy Jet Getaway for 3.99. I get to the register and the cashier changed the price to 20.00 and kept arguing with me that the toy wasn’t 3.99 (I scanned it in the toy dpt). Then she calls a manager and the manager told me the toy was in the wrong spot. Finally, they used a regular price scanner and it was 3.99. So irritated…then I get home and I notice half of the jet is missing!!!!! I don’t think I’ll be going back there for a long time.

    • Heather

      How discouraging 🙁

  13. Emily

The KMart on Six forks in Raleigh had lots of these things. Hope that helps1

  14. Rebecca

My kmart in Algona IA isn’t participating. I should of called ahead. Boohoo 🙁

    • Destinee

Did you price check?? It didnt look like mine was either but I scanned everything!

  15. Michelle

There was NO CLEARANCE left at my Kmart in Dubuque, IA. So disappointing! I do remember the toys on clearance being an extra 50% of a couple of weeks ago. Still bummed there was nothing there.

  16. Crystal

Look at my toy clearance haul from Kmart! It’s only 4 items, but what a great deal these 4 items are! Hot Wheels Wall Tracks Power Tower (regularly $44.99) for $9.99, (2) HOT Wheels Ballistiks Combat Cannons (regularly $25.99) for $3.99 each, and a Lego Ninjago Battle Arena (regularly $15.99) for $3.99!!! And get this, after using a $20.00 reward gift card that I had, I spent less than $4.00 out of pocket!! I’m gonna have some happy boys later this year!

  17. nicole

I always give books. My daughter received 11 dolls for her birthday.
