What’s one example of a Prang product?

I’ve seen watercolor sets, crayons & markers at Office Depot.

You can go to PrangPower.com to see alot of the products. 🙂 I have a 16 yr old boy & these are the only pencils he likes!

Prang crayons are the WORST. Or at least they were when I was in Kindergarten 30+ years ago 😉

Prang watercolors are required for my son’s 1st and 2nd grade classes. I get them at Target and they also have these pencils (the best pencils if you ask me – it’s all I buy him)

Is something wrong with Dixon pencil’s? our school requests that the brand NOT be dixon

My school gets them engraved with the school name and the kids can also get there name placed on it. It’s a private school though.

I was wondering what was wrong with other pencils as most are HB #2 that they run on sale as I had a ton still from past years sales. My daughter is going into first grade and their list specifically says Ticonderoga 24 pk of pencils.

      • Tiffany

hmm read that wrong each first grader has to have 3 packs of atleast 24. I looked on the Prang site and since these pencils are under prang, I am going to use 3 coupons to buy 6 12 pks. I would assume that would be the cheapest way… or maybe they carry them at BJ’s packaged together

Keep in mind that while pencils are good basically forever, erasers are not! Dixon Ticonderoga are the best pencils and I only buy these for my kids for school. Worth the extra money!!

A lot of pencils have an absolute TERRIBLE. So many are so cheaply made. When I have been helping at school and sharpening pencils there are very few brands that are any good. A lot of pencils cannot even be sharpened without eating away half of the pencil. I will ONLY buy Ticonderoga now- they are very high quality pencils.

The problem with Dixon is the lead. The pieces break up inside the pencil so when they are sharpened the lead falls out easily. On average, my students use about 2-3 cheap pencils a week at school. This is because they lose them, sharpen them too much, take them home, or lend them out to other students. This is about 72-108 pencils in a school year or 9-14 packs of 8 pencils. Ticonderoga pencils are higher priced but they last longer.

@ Heidi, Dixon pencils are not the same as Dixon ticonderoga pencils. The Dixon pencils are cheaper made and you can find them cheap right now like around $0.49 at walmart. Dixon Ticonderoga are more expensive and getting them for $2 or less is rare. A lot of schools in my area require them (Dixon ticonderoga)becauase they are longer lasting and don’t get eaten up as quickly in the pencil sharpeners.

I just read under product on the prang site… apparently they are anti-microbial also… interesting.

As a teacher I prefer my students to have the Tigonderoga pencils. One of the biggest differences I see is in the eraser. I know it is trivial but they are a better pencil in my opinion.
