Hey Collin,

I’m sure the last thing you want to see when you open your emails is a perfect stranger’s toes (especially some that need lotion – whoops!), but how else can I show you my super cute pedicure?

I got this pedi FIVE weeks ago and it still looks pretty darn good. Because we all like to save money, I thought I’d point out that you can take in your own polish to be used at nail salons. I don’t think that’s rocket science but most of my friends had never thought to do it. I always do, so if I get a small chip (or a big one) I have the perfect touch-up paint at home to lengthen the life of my pedicure. I DO use good quality polish though – I like OPI best. 🙂 I also put one of my address labels around my bottle so there’s no chance of a mixup later, just as a precaution.

Sure, you might be able to see the touch up if you look REALLY close but, seriously, who’s looking that closely at your feet? Enjoy! Feel free to make this photo your screensaver! 😉

    Jamie-great idea! Screen saver? Hilarious!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      😉

I get a pedicure once a month during the sandal season…it’s the one not Eco friendly thing I do. I get the shellac. It DOESNT chip- and only needs to be touched up or taken off after your toenails have grown enough to notice it! It’s been 2 months since I have had one and I just now am needing a new polish on them- no chips but grown out.

    • Em

$10 extra for chip free nails = worth it, I don’t want to have to mess with the polish to touch up that’s why I get the pedicure in the first place LOL

  3. Sarah

Jaime, I LOVE your sense of humor!!! Sounds like something I would say! 🙂 Cute pedi too!

  4. harlow

i like the purple color and the flower 🙂

  5. vickie

I was a Opi fan until I discovered Butter London…LOVE their products…try them Collin…you will be a convert…now, if I could afford a pedi haha…I maybe could if I gave up my polish fetish. Have a great weekend…see ya Monday or sooner.

  6. Mary

Is a pedi FIVE a shellac pedicure? I haven’t heard of it!

    • karin

I believe she had her pedi five weeks ago

  7. kim

Never knew you could take your own polish….great idea!

  8. tilla ham

hahha screensaver:) I hope I can use it as mine too, total foot fettish (blah, not!)

  9. Hazzy

Looks like either you painted in your nail growing out or your nails don’t grow at all. Lol

    • jenjamsam

That’s the point! Bring in your own nail polish so you can fill it in or repair any chips in the paint. 🙂

  10. bunny

And in addition to bringing in your own polish like Jaime, you have the option of bringing in your own nail implements.

I’ve heard of too many people getting fungal infections from a salon pedicure. Not only should you bring in your own nail color, but your own base and top coat as well. If a salon uses polish on you that was just used on a customer who unknowingly has an infection, you will get one too. And they take forever to get rid of!

  11. laheelahee

Also, you can apply a new top coat every few days! ^^

  12. brandice

I always take my own polish….Zoya makes a great polish in amazing colors!!!

  13. ihearthip

I am SO not a foot person, but I will get in on this discussion. lol I trim mine really short before I get a pedi so I can go longer before looking like they need to be trimmed again. Plus the folks I see never cut them short enough for my taste, even when I ask.

    • Em

Dude, I cut mine too. I can’t stand other people cutting mine, I’m deathly afraid they will cut to short and ouch!

  14. Alicia

Wow! This group is so mature. I am sure that girl really doesn’t care what you think about her or she probably wouldn’t have sent the picture.Grow UP!

    • April

      I didn’t see anyone comment anything negative…

      • stacy

The negative comments have been deleted! Thank you for that. People can be so rude.

        • Alla

100% agree. That was not appropriate at all. Really immature abt. her comment. Who cares about the hair. I don’t. No time for that at all. LOL….. I do my own pedi and never go to salon. Hers looks great and beautiful colors. Way to go, Jaime. Your pic made my day. Best Friday pic ever 🙂

  15. Sheena

I have started using Butter London Nail Polish. I also still use OPI too. I have heard of people bringing their own polish to the nail salon but I do my own pedicures to save money.

  16. Laura

“If you can walk on sand and you have a steady hand… never a reason to pay for a pedicure!” Lol that’s a quote from a movie… I’ve actually lived by it though. Saves a ton of money!! And I’ve become REALLY good at doing my own pedi’s. I always get asked “Where did you get your pedi? I love the color!” I have over 50 colors by Revlon that I got for FREE over the last few years with coupons 😉 Base coat and top coat are both by SecheVite from Ulta and it lasts forever. I can’t recall the last time I got a chip in my polish. 🙂

    • terri

Me too Laura, I don’t get pedi’s..I do my own with my own free nail polish. And I enjoy doing my daughters, we have a nice time hanging out together while I help her.

    • Rachel

The Seche brand is INCREDIBLE! Seriously changed my “nail” life! It dries my polish in 5minutes flat!

    • Jess

I do my own as well. I think I have had one done at a salon in my life – then I came home and re-did it b/c it didn’t look as good as I do myself. But great tip for those that do go. 🙂

  17. Ger

Cute! Thanks for the tips, Jaime!

  18. brdavis55

Ya Collin, I finally figured that one out too. My pedi last alot longer & don’t have to go in but maybe 2x’s a summer since I don’t waste my money having a pedi in the winter mos.

  19. Karla

OMG, I knew who wrote this upon seeing the picture! No, I am NOT a weird crazy person (well actually some may think I am LOL). This is one of my best friends whom I’ve know since kindergarten. I haven’t seen her pedi either since she lives several states away. I guess this proves we truly know each other! How funny!!!

    • Kat

How cool is that? I don’t think I would recognize any of my friends’ toes! Lol 🙂 I have heard of brides and bridal parties bringing in THE perfect color etc, it never occurred to me to do it to save money but it makes sense. I like the tip about clipping nails short too. Mine grow REALLY fast.

    • Mel

You recognized her by her toes???

  20. The one with the TOES!

Ha! Those toes are mine. I’d missed the post but my stalker life-long friend alerted me… And she hasn’t seen me or my toes in months!

Yes, I knew some people would be grossed out by toes. Clearly I wasn’t worried about it. “Ain’t nobody got time for that.” 😉

    • Rebe

Hahaha, you made me laugh, you seem like a really carefree, funny person and you have a great friend who recognizes by your toes! So cute! 🙂

  21. terri

I do my own nails and I like changing the color every Sunday..I couldn’t imagine having the same color for that long, even if I love it, I want to switch up. But if you do want the same color, those are good tips.

  22. Donna

Try putting baby oil to get that shiny/new pedi look. Just put a small amount on a cotton ball and dab on each toe!!!

  23. Shan

Please be careful with leaving polish on for that long – especially dark polish. It becomes a breeding ground for fungus. I would know… I’ve had several toenails REMOVED because of pedi’s and polish and fungus. 🙁

  24. Sandy

Love the toes:) On another random note…I received a post card from Shutterfly with a 25% off your order or get 10 free cards code that ends Oct 31, 2013. Not going to use it and thought maybe one of you would like it…DMCH-7NAA-MCB6-4A3J6A. Now I think I will go paint my nails! Have an awesome weekend!

  25. tracy

is it cheaper to bring in polish or something. i have never gotten one before but i know that they can be 10 or 20 dollars depending on where you go to. but to me that is very expensive for something i do at home on a weekly basis. i dont just take my nail polish off i trim them. clean them. file. scrape on the sides and bottoms just like at a salon. and i wouldnt be wasting about 100 or so every year

  26. Holly

To each her own for sure! While some think a salon pedi is a luxury or an unneeded expense, for others, like me, it is one of the things I do to take care of myself. Also, being older and not so limber, it’s hard to get to my toes! Living in the northwest, my feet are in socks from Sept to May, so two or three pedis a year (three if I travel somewhere warm during the winter and will be wearing sandals) is a manageable expense. In the winter, I don’t polish, and do my own grooming. I always used to go to a beauty school, but there isn’t one nearby, and have always taken my own polish. I don’t let the salon cut anything, just file.
