I purchased this sewing machine two years ago and really love it! I haven’t had a single problem with it and rarely rip stitches out! I highly recommend it!

Would you recommend this one for a beginer? I want to get a sewing machine and learn how to do simple things, like hemming pants etc.

I am totally a beginner and just got this machine about a month ago. I love it. I have made quite a few project thanks to this machine being so easy to use and Pinterest and I didn’t know how to sew before. Love it. It’s pretty easy to learn on and have a lot of bells and whistles. I’m so glad I got it.

Yes, please let me know if you’d recommend this for a beginner. I’m thinking of getting one just to start out. I learned to sew in 9th grade, but that was a really long time ago! I need some real refreshing and don’t want anything too complicated!:)

I bought this a few years back and it’s a great sewing machine for beginners! My 8 yr old used it herself (even threaded it) no problems. She’d never sewn before. (she made her baby sister a beautiful blanket with it) It’s very self explanatory. One thing that happens to me often is that the bobbin gets all tangled up. Probably just a ME problem. I’d consider myself a beginner. I took sewing in HS but I couldn’t read a pattern if my life depended on it. I have decorated onsies, made baby blankets, sewn curtains and costumes with it, no problems! It’s a great basic machine and if you don’t like it, Amazon has a great return policy. I think I paid closer to $150 for mine on sale so this is a good price!

I’ve been wanting a sewing machine to start making pillows, curtains, etc. but have been put off by the high prices of basic machines (I’m a beginner). I jumped on this deal because of the $129 price, free shipping (I have Amazon Prime), and great reviews. I’m very excited to get this! Thanks!

How much did all of you pay for it? SOOOOO many times sewing machines say that they are normally 299 but they NEVER sell for that, that’s just how the machines are. Curious to know how much all these ladies who have it paid for it. Thanks!!!

  4. Valerie H

Thank you Hip team!! My sewing machine that I always hated finally died a few months ago. I’ve been wanting to get back into sewing but wanted to get a quality machine and not have to pay a ton of money for it! This is perfect. I hope it works well.

Got one and am super excited! I’m a beginner and really want to learn. What a great price. Thank you!

Does the machine do lettering like if I want yo put my child’s name can it do that? Personalize automatically?

    • ashley

I’m pretty sure this only has VERY basic embroidery and would not do lettering/ monogramming.

I’ve been looking at sewing machines for months now. I would be a beginner and am trying to decide between this singer machine or the Brother CS6000i sewing machine (60 Built-In Stitches, 7 styles of 1-Step Auto-Size Buttonholes, Quilting Table, and Hard Cover). It goes on sale for $135 sometimes so I waiting it out. Anyone have any thoughts on which would be better?

    • animty

Go Singer. My Brother machine has had nothing but problems. My mom and sister both have Brothers and have had nothing but problems too. I got this model of Singer two years ago and will never go with a different brand.

    • jenn

I have that brother machine, and I love it! I have had it for 8 months and have not had any problems with it.

  8. Lori

It’s only $124.99 now!! I cancelled my previous order and re-ordered to save $5!!

  9. ashley

I don’t want to sound like a debbie downer, but just an fyi: the Singer name is not the name it once was. The name was sold long ago, and the newer ones IMO are not nearly of the same quality that the retro machines once were. If you’re looking for an entry level light duty machine, this may suit your needs, but I’m not sure how the customers service is anymore.

  10. Jess

Yes I agree Singer is not the best brand, but for beginners should be fine but it won’t last very long, it that’s looking for it’ll be fine.

    • Elizabeth

Does anyone know if you can make piping with this machine? Like for making pillows.

  11. Jen

    anyone else getting charged tax?

    • Bonnie

I always get charged tax when buying from Amazon I live in Texas

    • Laura

I live in Georgia and on Sept. 1, Amazon started charging tax.

  12. Lis

For $124 for a new sewing machine is great to do basic repairs which I need as my old, old sewing machine would likely cost me at least $40-50 to even diagnose what the problem is and who knows how much to actually fix it. I’ll take it!

    • Jess

You know it’s really what you want, they are probably similar machines. I like to have a loose foot for stipling when I do simple quilting. If you want letters, you’ll want that. It’s just up to you, I’m sure both would end up being good. I think my Brother and Singer are similar quality.

      • yuka

Thank you, Jess. I have never used a sewing machine before and I dont even know if I need letters. Is that useful function to hvae? Good thing about costco is I can return it when it breaks in a few years or if I dont like it…

    • animty

      Go with the singer.
