Sent from reader, Erin:

I stumbled across a five-ingredient recipe for homemade fish-shaped cheese snack crackers . . . and I knew I’d have to try it. Browsing other cracker recipes, I found a post where someone made mini cookie cutters from aluminum cans. So cute!

But best of all, you control the quality of the ingredients in your crackers. They are incredible–so cheesy and yummy! This is the easiest dough you’ll ever work with. Without preservatives, they won’t keep well, so I make a small batch at a time and keep the rest of the dough in the fridge (or freezer) for the next snack attack.

HAPPY FRIDAY!

Wow, such a great idea!! I’ll definitely try this for my 4 years old who loves gold fish crackers. Thank you for sharing. 🙂

Sounds like a fun activity with kids!!!

  3. Christine

Thanks for posting Collin. I am going to try making them gluten free. My kids have never had a goldfish cracker.

    • Tilla Ham

I am going to make them gluten free as well for my celiac daughter…she wasn’t diagnosed until age 8, so she misses some things

  4. ihearthip

This is a neat idea! I have seen a goldfish “cookie” cutter on Amazon before.

  5. Connie

So cute! I’m already thinking of flavor twists that we can try!

  6. Adri mom

Wish I was a cook… I may even attempt these. My kids live goldfish but we stopped buying them because they use GMO soy. Thanks!!

Does anyone know how to make a cutter? This looks so good I just don’t know about investing $10 with shipping on a cookie cutter I might not use again.

    • Erin

There’s a link in the post for making the cutters. Basically cut an aluminum soda can into a thin strip, tape ends together, and shape into a fish. You can also use whatever mini cutters you happen to have. I also made mini fall leaves, which were also cute.

        Thanks Erin! 🙂

This is great! I love seeing people try new recipes to replace crap food! And the lady who stopped because of GMO soy- you rock! We homemake everything- right down to the sprinkles used to make “funfetti” cake. It’s so much yummier and good for you! And on top of that recycling instead if buying a cookie cutter- you rock! Love love love this post

    • Janice

Hi Em! How do you make your own sprinkles for “funfetti” cake? That is so cool!!

    • Beverly

Please let us know how to make homemade sprinkles. I don’t buy them because they are ALL made with hydrogenated oil, which means they have trans fats. Most processed foods have ingredients that you don’t want to be eating. There is a new movement called “Clean Eating”, you can google it.

My entire family, husband and I and nearly 7 kids are all high raw vegans. The kids have been vegan since birth with the exception of formula for 4 of them and breast milk for 2 of them. My husband and I have been vegan for a long, long time. Our soon to be newest child will also be formula fed. We have some cooked things as treats every now and then, like vegan cake for birthdays. This is the sprinkle recipe I use: https://bravetart.com/recipes/RainbowSprinkles

I sub agar powder** for the egg whites and use things like Bert and blueberry juice instead of food coloring.

** 1 egg white = 1 Tbsp. plain agar powder dissolved in 1 Tbsp. water, whipped, chilled, and whipped again

          Thank you So Very Much!!!!

Love, love, love this idea ! Probably the best Friday one (that applies to me or I could use) I’ve seen in a while 😀

  10. JA

Very cool. I think I just might have to try this!

  11. jhnicole

So cool my three year old son loves goldfish/annie/many other brands of crackers too.Thanks.

  12. Jessica

Awesome post! We love cheese crackers- goldfish or Annie’s cheddar bunnies. I am going to make these. Thanks!

    • rebecca

yeah, but this one on Amazon is 9cm. it’s nowhere near the size of a bite-sized cracker. it is only a great deal if you don’t want to use it for goldfish-style crackers, but need it for another project instead.

  13. judy

Does it puff up like goldfish?

    • Erin

Yup, they do puff up a bit.

  14. Stacey W

you could even just cut them into squares to be like Cheez-its :). Great post Collin!

  15. Brittany

My husband and I love this! I’ve made it a couple times and it’s so good. Last time I made it, my husband hijacked the whole batch and I didn’t get any 🙂

  16. PT

Yummy! This is a great Home Ec class project at home!

  17. Patty

Are they crispy like PF goldfish?

    • Erin

      Yes!

This is awesome. Other parents offer to share their kids snacks with my son and I feel so horrible saying he cant have them. And when they ask why I have to explain there is so mucj junk in those. Anyways now he can have the “same” snack.
