Sometimes we just need an easy hot meal that the kids will eat and one that we likely have all the ingredients for. This one is a classic family favorite and it only has five simple ingredients. I like to use ground turkey or ground beef and it comes out delicious every time. This also is a meal you can make ahead of time and put in the oven before you’re ready to eat. YUM!
Tater Tot Casserole
1/2 of a 32 oz. bag of frozen Tater Tots
1 small onion chopped
1 can condensed cream of mushroom soup
1 pound ground turkey or beef
1 and 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
1/4 cup milk (optional)
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
- In a large skillet over medium-high heat, brown the ground beef or turkey with the onions. Drain excess fat, and season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Spread the beef mixture evenly over the bottom of a 2 quart casserole dish. Arrange tater tots evenly over beef layer. In a small bowl, stir the soup into the milk until smooth; pour over tater tot and beef layers. Sprinkle Cheddar cheese evenly over the top.
- Bake in preheated oven for 30 to 40 minutes, until cheese is bubbly and slightly brown.
Note: I’m putting milk as optional because most of the time I forget or I feel like the texture comes out thicker and tastes better without. This is just my preference, but some may like the thinner creamier texture with milk.
I love letting the tater tots get extra crispy.
I’ve made this a few times as a “meals on wheels” dinner for friends and family who’ve just had a baby or just had surgery. Everyone has loved it, and I hope your family does as well! 🙂
