Sent from reader, Connie:

I was texting with my sister one morning about how pricey food can be. When I went to go get dressed, my nine year old daughter Olivia decided to put her two cents in 😉 The apple doesn’t fall too far from the tree! Thank you for all you do! Your time is much appreciated!

Love it!! That is so funny and cute!! Today we were visiting a college withy daughter and at lunch she i want to go the campus bookstore and buy a sweatshirt (in my head the words were forming. I need a coupon yeah right where ya gonna get one) then my daughter says and I have a 20% coupon in my visitor packet!!! Woo hoo saved ten bucks. Also my husband told the nearby hotel we stayed at that we were visiting the college and we got about $25 off the room!!

That reminds me of a few years ago my two kids and I went on a trip with my parents. On the way I was telling them about an article I read that said it never hurts to ask for a free upgrade. So when we got to the hotel, instead of the 5 of us sharing one bedroom, my dad asked if we could possibly upgrade for free. They said sure because it was the middle of the week and the rooms weren’t full. We ended up getting a suite that had a living room and two bedrooms. It was awesome!

Collegeswapshop.com will organize all the websites that sell the text to get you the best deal! Sometimes half.com or abebooks.com are even better than amazon, but collegeswapshop will let you know so you don’t have to dig!

        • jac

Also bigwords.com will compare lowest prices for texts.

Remember to avoid the college bookstore if at all possible!!! Amazon is so much cheaper. By using Swagbucks, we have been able to buy all of my son’s texts with no money out of pocket.

      • amy

That is a great tip! Thank you. My husband is in college so this is definitely great for us.

        • Jenny

Also with Amazon you call sell the books back at the end of the semester for Amazon credt ( no mater where you bought them).

          • Sarah Heil (@Homeschoolmom7)

Better yet, your college bookstore may also buy them back. My son’s is so desperate for used books that they don’t care where you bought them (this especially pays off for science and math texts which are SOOOOO pricey). Or sell them to a friend who has the class the next term, then you both save! Just be sure to keep them in good condition (highlight what you need because you are in college to learn, but don’t spill soda on them!).

I have saved a lot of money on texts through amazon. A few of my daughters’ texts you can ONLY get through the college bookstore, but in most cases, amazon is quite a bit cheaper. We got her astronomy book for $40 (vs the $150 college bookstore was asking).

        • Sarah Heil (@Homeschoolmom7)

Had that experience, too. One way to get it for no out of pocket then is to accumulate Barnes and Noble cards from Swagbucks and swap them for a physical card at your local B&N (you can’t use the e-cards at their college stores — don’t understand that!), which you can then use at the college store. Or, of course, cash out with Paypal.

That is one stark realization for a 9yr old! Too funny!

  8. debbie

  9. Jess

    Love It! Girl!!!!

  10. Claudia

I wish my kids pick this apples…… they just fill my cart while I am busy checking my coupons.

    • Jen Clark

Mine too!!! If I take the kids along, I spend more than I save by being too distracted shuffling through my coupons to monitor them. Whatever happened to helping mom???

  11. visitor3

I let my toddler hold the coupons just as we are reaching to the register. I tell her she can “hold the money” and she is so proud to help “pay”!

  12. Katie

    So cute! Love it!

  13. Lori Stevens

That is simply adorable! Way to teach her about the value of coupons early on.

  14. Maria

I enjoyed the post. Very cute.

  15. Amanda

I hope my future kids love coupons and sale items as much as I do

  16. Edy

My granddaughter loves to help cut and shop. She said money is coupons and coupons are money. Now she is 6 yrs old and she is my price scanner she goes to red machine to check prices. She walks into the store greeting everyone by name. She loves coupons
